'Get Him': After Klopp contact, Molby urges Liverpool to sign 'irresistible' €50m attacker

Earlier this week, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp described alleged transfer target Mario Gotze as a player with 'extraordinary abilities', and with the Reds reportedly pushing to sign Gotze, Anfield legend Jan Molby has urged his old club to 'gamble on signing the coveted €50m-rated attacker.

On Tuesday, Sky Sports claimed:

"Liverpool are interested in making a summer move for Mario Gotze, Sky sources understand".

The Liverpool Echo further added:

"Liverpool are increasingly confident they can snap up Gotze [who] is keen to link up with with his old boss".

In his column for the Liverpool Echo this week, Molby conceded that Gotze has 'lost his way' at Bayern, but raved over his 'massive' ability, and urged the club to try and seal a deal:

"If Liverpool can get him [Gotze], they’ll be acquiring a top class talent. Klopp had him firing before. At Dortmund he was irresistible [and] you can never have too many good attacking players".

I remain unconvinced by this potential transfer, for the following reasons:

* 8 muscle injuries in the last 3.5 seasons, including 116 days out this season with a hamstring injury. Clearly, Gotze has muscle issues, and that is unlikely to improve under Klopp's high-intensity regime.

* Gotze - who confirmed recently that he is in text contact with Klopp - isn't the tallest or physically strongest player, and he may struggle with the physicality of the Premier League.

* With Lallana, Coutinho, and Firmino, Liverpool already have too many number-10s, and if Gotze arrives, it'll mean attacking players constantly playing out of position.

For £15m-£20m, yes. Anything more than that is, in my view, too much of a gamble.
