Transfer Boost: Liverpool in talks to sign 'amazing' midfielder who idolises £42m superstar

Liverpool continue to be linked with Polish international Piotr Zieliński, and new reports over the weekend suggest that the Reds are set to take concrete steps this week to seal the deal.

Last month, The Telegraph reported:

"Liverpool tried to sign Zieliński in January [and] will try to revive that deal this summer".

According to the Daily Mail:

"Liverpool [will] hold talks next week over the signing of Piotr Zielinski. Scouts have continued to monitor his progress and watched him against Genoa last week".

Some info about Zielinski, who is currently on loan at Empoli:

* 21-year old central midfielder. Can also play as a number-10. 3 goals/8 assists in 58 apps for Empoli (One every 333 mins).

* On his goals for the remainder of the season: "I can still improve. I want to get 5 goals and 10 assists.”

* On his football idols: “Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil* and Miralem Pjanic. Zinedine Zidane is the best of them all.”

* Apr 2014: * Ex-Udinese boss Francesco Guidolin enthused: "3 years ago he [Zielinski] was skinny and fragile but with two amazing feet. This is why I decided to work with him - he has the stigmata of a champion".

In my view, signing players like Grujic and Zielinski highlights once again the ongoing failure of Liverpool's youth policy. What is the point in developing midfielders at the academy if the club then goes out and buys two YOUNG MIDFIELDERS (aged 19 and 21 respectively).

It must be so supremely demotivating for Chirivella, Brannagan, and Rossiter to see Liverpool bring in similarly-aged midfielders to basically replace them in the first team squad. Klopp is basically tell them: 'You're not good enough, so I'm forced to sign players who are good enough'.

With Grujic, Henderson, Can, Milner, Allen, Lucas, Zielinski (if he signs), and Camacho (who is also linked), Chirivella et al can kiss goodbye to regular first-team action next season.

* Cost £42m
