Done Deal: Liverpool 'confirm' agreement for 'incredible' £25k-a-week star; Klopp 'involved' in 'negotiations'

After weeks of speculation, the worst kept secret in football is out: allegedly 'incredible' Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan has finally signed a new deal at Anfield.

According to the official LFC website:

"Liverpool Football Club can confirm Jon Flanagan has today signed a new long-term contract. The defender put pen to paper on the deal at Melwood on Friday afternoon, committing his future to the Reds".

After signing the new deal, Flanagan - - reportedly on £25k-a-week - told Liverpoolfc.com:

“It’s brilliant. I’ve been through a lot in the last two years with the injury, and maybe a few people thought my future was in doubt, but I’ve worked hard and this is a bonus at the end of it.”

Jurgen Klopp's reaction:

"I was involved in these negotiations. Not involved in the numbers but I was involved in the decision that we wanted to offer him a new contract and what kind of contract.”

My reaction:

On the plus side, it's good to see the club showing faith in an academy player; I just wish Klopp et al would show the same faith in some of Liverpool's clearly talented (foreign) academy attackers.
