Aldo insists: 'Excellent' £65k-a-week Liverpool star must start against Spurs on Saturday. Agree?

After another interminable international break, Liverpool return to Premier League action this weekend with a mouth-watering home clash against Tottenham Hotspur, and according to Reds legend John Aldridge, Jurgen Klopp needs to make one major change for the game.

In his column for the Liverpool Echo this week, Aldo mused:

"I’ll be happy to see Dejan Lovren come back into defence alongside Mamadou Sakho after his half time substitution at St Mary’s".

Over the last couple of months, Lovren - described as 'excellent' by Jamie Carragher - has formed an effective partnership with Mamadou Sakho, so it makes sense to stick with that on Saturday.

Additionally, Lovren^ didn't play for Croatia during the international break, so he should be fresh and fit for the game.

As for the rest of the defensive unit: Clyne featured in both of England's games over the last few days, but Flanagan and Moreno (who is back in full training after a recent injury), haven't played, so they will be well rested ahead of the game.

That said, I'd like to see Brad Smith given a chance this weekend. If he's good enough to play for Australia in World Cup qualifiers (which are pressurised games), then he's good enough to play for Liverpool in the league. It's nonsense to suggest otherwise.

My preferred defensive line-up for Spurs:

---------------- Mignolet
Flanagan --- Sakho - Lovren ---- Smith

^ Reportedly on £65k-a-week
