Transfer Finally Agreed: Liverpool set to sign 'excellent' £50k-a-week international. Done deal this summer?

For the second year running, Liverpool failed to sign any players during the January transfer window, but new reports this evening suggest that the Reds did actually complete some last-minute business, albeit - like Marko Grujic - for the summer.

Last week, Sky Sports 'sources' claimed that Liverpool submitted an offer for 27-year old Matip, and according to the Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport:

* Matip [Reportedly offered £50k-a-week by LFC] has agreed a pre-contract deal with Liverpool, and will join the Reds when his contract ends in June 2016.

If this is true, it will infuriate Schalke, who've been desperately trying to get Matip to sign a new contract (probably to ensure a transfer fee in the summer).

If this news is true, then it's surely curtains for one of Liverpool's current central defenders, but who?

Toure is the obvious answer, but Matip - who is a regular for Schalke - is not going to sign for Liverpool to rot away on the bench, and it's highly probable he'll be brought in as a first-teamer.

As such, if Liverpool continue with four at the back under Klopp, two of either Skrtel, Sakho, or Lovren will spend a lot of time on the bench next season.

Of course, there's always the possibility that injuries may plague the back-four again next year (especially under Klopp's rigorous regime), but even if that's the case, will Sakho, in particular, be happy with a bit-part role?

Who is most likely to partner Matip at the heart of the defence?
