Transfer Alert: After Liverpool talks, £37m powerhouse admits he wants to 'play' for Man City

During the January transfer window, Liverpool were linked with a move for Borussia Moenchengladbach star Granit Xhaka, and recent reports claim that Jurgen Klopp is planning a renewed summer bid for the £37m-rated midfielder. Alas, it appears that the Reds chances of sealing the deal are diminishing by the day, and Xhaka has now suggested that Anfield will probably not be his next destination.

Last week, German newspaper SportBild claimed:

"SportBild has learned that Jurgen Klopp had a meeting with [Granit] Xhaka's Agent in December 2015".

When asked this week about interest from the Premier League, Xhaka told SportBild:

"Logically, it is hard to say no when Manchester City wants you and you can play there. I will openly admit that and I'm sure that does not only apply to me."

The attraction of Man City will only increase this summer when Pep Guardiola - one of the world's most successful managers - takes over from Manuel Pellegrini.

It's yet to be proven at Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp's alleged pulling power in the transfer market will be put to the test this summer, and in this case, I can't see Klopp triumphing over Guardiola.

This may not be such a bad thing, though. Xhaka is a talented player, but his disciplinary record is atrocious:

* 40 yellow cards since the start of the 13-14 season. 8 yellows/3 reds in 23 games so far this season.

* Total: Eight suspensions in the last 2.5 seasons. 3 suspensions already this season (78 days out).

Is this worth £37m? The Premier League is more physical and frantic than the Bundesliga, so it's self-delusion to think that Xhaka will suddenly pick up fewer yellow cards in the Prem.
