Contact Made: Liverpool pushing to sign 'extraordinary' €15m midfielder who's 'ideal for LFC'

Liverpool are once again being linked with a January move for Fiorentina star Mario Suarez, and new reports suggest that the Reds are actively seeking a deal for the €15m-rated Spanish midfielder.

On Sunday, Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri (BeIN Sports/CNN/Gazetta Dello Sport) claimed:

"Liverpool have contacted Fiorentina for Mario Suarez. Watford are also in [contact]".

Recent transfer timeline:

Oct 2015: The Mirror reported: "Fiorentina are considering selling [Suarez] in January [and] Liverpool are at the front of the queue to sign him".

Nov 2015: Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato claimed: "[Suarez] has instructed his agent to speak with Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool is Suarez's top choice".

Some info about Suarez, who, according to his agent, is an 'extraordinary player':

* Defensive midfielder. Current contract expires in June 2019.

* 183 apps for Atletico Madrid (5 goals/5 assists). Averages 40 games a season.

* 4 major trophies, including a La Liga title.

* Struggling to hold down a regular place at Fiorentina, and is currently averaging only 54 minutes of pitch time per game.

* According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Suarez has a problematic relationship with Fiorentina boss Paulo Sousa, and the club is consequently willing to sell.

Ex-Red Luis Garcia is a fan of Suarez, and when asked last season to name the one player he'd like to see Liverpool sign, he enthused:

"Mario Suárez. I love him. He'd be ideal for Liverpool [and] perfect for the Premier League. He is strong, with great physical presence [and] technique, and a touch of quality that makes the difference."

Despite upping his game recently, Joe Allen looks to be on the outs at Anfield, and if he leaves in the summer (or even during the current window), it'll make sense to bring in an experienced replacement.

The question is, does Klopp see Suarez as a squad player (like Allen), or a potential first-teamer?
