Transfer Shocker: Anfield hero insists Klopp should 'sell' £86m Liverpool trio and sign 'real quality'

With 6 months of the season gone, Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino continues to frustrate and delight in equal measure, and when he's on song, the Brazilian is capable of making a significant impact on the team. Unfortunately, the reverse is also true, and when he's out of sorts, Firmino is nothing more than a passenger for LFC. Ex-Red Stan Collymore has seen enough, though, and he's urged Jurgen Klopp to consider scrapping Firmino this summer.

In a recent column for Boyle Sports, Collymore - who will forever be an Anfield hero for his winner against Newcastle in the memorable 4-3 victory back in 1996 - mused:

"Benteke, Firmino and Sturridge [Combined cost/worth: £86m*] will all have suitors home or abroad, so if Klopp must sell to bring in real quality then so be it. Liverpool can’t be waiting for ifs and buts with players".

It'll certainly be a shock if Klopp sells Benteke, Firmino, and Sturridge this summer (all three, or two of the three), but if Klopp can bring in stronger, more consistent players with the money (i.e. attackers who score/create regularly, and are fit most of the time), then, as Collymore states: so be it.

At Dortmund, Klopp signed the likes of Reus, Lewandowski, Mkhitaryan, Gundogan, Kagawa and Aubemeyang, which suggests that there's a strong possibility that he's capable of finding the right players at the right price.

Indeed, Klopp paid a combined £28m for Lewandowski, Kagawa, Reus, Gundogan, and Aubemeyang, which is just £2m more than Adam Lallana's £26m transfer fee; £1m less than Firmino's fee, and £4m less than the price paid for Benteke.

This is the perfect illustration of Liverpool's irredeemable negligence in the transfer market, and it'll be interesting to see whether Klopp can replicate his transfer success at Anfield this summer.

As for Benteke, Sturridge, and Firmino: sell, or keep? In my view, they're all expendable (along with Lallana, Can, Moreno, Lovren, Sakho, Milner, Origi, Mignolet, Bogdan etc), but only if Klopp replaces them with better players (or in Sturridge's case, a fitter player).

For example, I'd happily see Benteke and Firmino scrapped if the money went on Pierre Emerick Aubemeyang.
