Newcastle Travesty: Carragher reacts to Liverpool defeat and claims the 'only positive' is Skrtel's own goal

Losing 2-0 to a club in the relegation zone is always a travesty, but according to Jamie Carragher, there's one minor positive to take away from Liverpool's defeat at St. James' Park.

Prior to today's game, Carra held the Liverpool record for the most own goals in the Premier League era, but after his unfortunate own goal against Newcastle, Martin Skrtel is now level with Carra:

Most Own Goals in the Prem:

* Richard Dunne: 10

* Martin Skrtel: 7

* Jamie Carragher: 7

* Wes Brown: 6

* Phil Jagielka: 6

I have no doubt that Skrtel will score an 8th own goal at some point. but even if/when he does, Carra will still hold the unenviable record of scoring two own goals in one game.

His dubious double came against Manchester United in 1999, and I can't see anyone matching that any time soon.

I vividly remember watching this game, and Carra's own goals are comical. Also, the expression on Dominic Matteo's face after the second own goal is priceless :-)

Own goals aside, though, Skrtel - Like Carra - is an excellent defender, and he's proven that time and time again this season (and over the last 3-4 years).
