Contact Made: Liverpool make official offer for 'important' £76k-a-week Uruguay powerhouse. Klopp determined to sign

Liverpool are currently linked with a January move for 'important' Juventus centre-half Martin Cacares, and new reports suggest that the Reds have taken concrete steps to facilitate a transfer.

Last week, Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato claimed:

"Liverpool are interested in signing Martin Caceres, and Jurgen Klopp will make a move during the January transfer window".

According to Spanish sports magazine Don Balon this week:

"Caceres has offers from Inter Milan, Liverpool and Fenerbahce. Caceres prefers to stay in Serie A or to head to the Premier League, and Jurgen Klopp is determined to convince him to sign for Liverpool.

At this point, I'd usually outline some info about Caceres' career, but there's no point. Liverpool shouldn't touch the Uruguayan (Reportedly on £76k-a-week at Juventus) with a barge pole, for the following reasons:

* Averaged only 17 games a season for the last six seasons.

* 13 separate injuries in three years, including THREE injuries already this season.

* 351 days out injured since 2012 (75 games missed).

Given the sheer number of sicknotes in Liverpool's squad (past and present), it's utter insanity to sign player with this type of injury history, and if the Reds are seriously considering a move, then whoever is driving the decision should be sacked forthwith for gross negligence.

That said, I really can't believe that Jurgen Klopp is interested in Caceres; Klopp is clearly a smart guy, and with Sakho, and Lovren regularly injured (and other defenders already out injured). it makes no sense for him to target another injury-prone defender.

I've said it once (well, a dozen times, probably!), and I'll say it again: FSG should institute a moratorium on signing any player with a significant injury history. Liverpool continue suffer as a result of unreliable players, and unless it's Lionel Messi under contention, it's just not worth the risk or the cost.
