Anfield Update: Massive Man-Utd boost for 'unplayable' attacker, but £20m Liverpool star suffers international woe

Earlier this week, 'unplayable' Liverpool striker Christian Benteke suffered a thigh strain whilst on international duty, and with a vital must-win game against Man United this weekend, Liverpool fans feared the worse. Happily, it appears that Benteke has shaken off his injury worries, and looks set to be available for the game on Saturday.

Benteke played 45 minutes of Belgium's European Championship qualifier with Cyprus on Sunday, and he'll now return to Anfield to prepare for this weekend's game.

Whilst Benteke is out of harm's way for the rest of the week, a number of Liverpool players will feature for their international teams today, including Skrtel, Milner, Clyne, Lovren, Ibe, Gomez, Coutinho, and Firmino.

Coutinho is already missing for the Man United game, and the last thing Liverpool need is further injuries to key personnel, so fingers crossed.

Jordan Henderson remains injured, but after almost two weeks of recovery time (so far), he'll hopefully make a return against Man United is Jordan Henderson.

Liverpool definitely need Henderson. He's no world-beater, but Hendo is one of few central midfielders at the club with a genuine attacking instinct, and the ability to make effective late runs into the box.

Against West Ham, Benteke was isolated for most of the game, and Milner and Can barely made it into the box all game.

Liverpool's chance-creation with Hendo in the team is pretty pitiful this season, but without him, it's downright embarrassing.

On a different note: Croatia dropped Dejan Lovren for the games against Azerbaijan and Norway, which is hardly surprising given his calamitous performance against West Ham.

Will Rodgers do the same this weekend? If a change is to be made in central defence, now is the time to do it. The season is only four games old, and if Sakho comes into the team now, there's plenty of time to forge a solid partnership with Skrtel.
