Done Deal: 'Very happy' midfielder confirms he's signed for Liverpool after rejecting Arsenal

In recent weeks, Liverpool have signed a whole host of teenagers, including defender Joe Gomez, striker Brooks Lennon, and attacking midfielder Bobby Adekanye, and the latest child to sign on at Anfield is Arsenal midfielder Elijah Dixon-Bonner.

Yes, I've never heard of him either, but according to the Daily Express:

* 16-year old Dixon-Bonner has signed for Liverpool.

* He rejected a youth scholarship at Arsenal to sign for the Reds.

After putting pen to paper, Bonner tweeted confirmation of the transfer:

"I am very happy to announce my signing with Liverpool FC on a long term deal"

Bonner also posted the following photo:

Finally! Liverpool beat Arsenal in the transfer market!

After the disappointment of losing out on Alexis Sanchez last summer, it's heartening to see that the Reds can still attract the cream of the crop.

I'm sure that Dixon-Bonner will follow Sanchez's lead and become an integral part of the first-team...in about six years.

It seems like like a long way off, but I for one will be waiting with bated-breath to see the likes of Adekanye, Dixon-Bonner, and Lennon strutting their stuff as regulars for the first-team.

  3. Even if these kids don't make it here then they are likely to make somewhere else...even playing in League 1 they make more than a decent living.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I remember when Arsenal was THE destination for kids, but it looks like LFC have taken that role. To have taken one of their own says a lot.

  5. Not really, Liverpool probably just offered him more money like they did with Sterling.

    Money talks.

  6. Liverpool academy is rated 1 of the best in the world !

  7. we seemed to hav upped the level of players at the academy. which is good. because the 1st team, for once, has also been upgraded with the signings of Clyne, Firmino, Milner and potentially Benteke. that means as a club, academy and 1st team, we are making improvements which bodes well for next season and beyond.

next season our best starting 11 will be

    -------------------------------------Mingolet
    Clyne-----------------Skrtel--------------Sakho--------------Moreno
    -------------------------------------Lucas
    --------Milner---------------------------------------------Hendo
    -----------------Firmino-----------------------Coutinho
    -----------------------------------Benteke

subs Can for Lucas at 65 mins, Origi for Benteke at 75 mins, Lallana for Coutinho or Milner at 80

second team for carling cup games will be

    -----------------------------------Bogdan
    Clyne----------------Lovren--------------Ilori---------------Moreno
    ------------------------Can-------------------Milner
    ------------------------------------Lallana
    -Ibe---------------------------------Ings--------------------------Origi

subs on Firmino for Lallana at 75mins, Benteke for Ings at 75 mins, Adekanye for Origi at 85 mins(give the new robben some minutes)

Europa League as well (we need to win that title, many teams that have won it have become successful in Europe, just look at Atletico, plus it gets CL spot now and were the best team in it and should be favourites)

  8. "the latest child" - haha :-)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Eum....why would that be the case? Is there a source for this?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Any signing in the academy who shows some sort of ability is a greater move than spending 32 mill on Benteke.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sub Can for Lucas. And what will we do the other 75% of the games when Lucas is injured? Who will we sub Can for?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Any relations to Packie?

  13. "Ouch, Bonner, right in the face! That must've hurt..."

  14. Academy is on the way up under Inglethorpe et al.:for me it's good to see this degree of coming and going. A dynamic environment like those at Ajax, Sporting, Barcelona, Arsenal is the way to go and makes an exciting environment for the youngsters and coaches to learn in. We've had too much emphasis on bringing through the next "star" from the cradle to the first team at LFC, in my semi-informed opinion, which leads to unrealistic expectations. This poaching, loaning and releasing, the vibrancy that can bring, all bodes well. Hopefully.

  15. I am sure Bonner will grow a few inches and show the Kop how its done. Is there any truth in the rumour that the recently resigned Greek Foreign Minister has been invited to be the sevemth member of our infamous transfer committee.Hope so - he will get us all the money we need for nowt and expect the Europeans to Thank us for doing so - A GENIUS

    ReplyDelete
  16. Agreed, I'll be appalled if we spend that kind of money on Benteke. Especially since we let Bacca go to Milan for what, 21 million?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Rodrigo Amaral - Suarez mark 2.Of course another Suarez is possible - Messi replaced Maradona - so anythings possible

  18. Nice lineup mate. For some reason not many people recognise that Lucas is our only dedicated DM. And a dedicated DM was a staple of the top 4 teams last year. We need cover for him though and it's not Can, he's not a DM. Illarramendi seems like our best bet because we're not going to get Carvalho who's probably going to be too expensive anyway :(

  19. Aren't you a ray of sunshine.

  20. Is there like a single non-sarcastic sentence in this article?!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Closest I've seen so far, looks a great young player. Did you know he's previously trained at Melwood - be great to get his signature.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Messi replaced Maradona

    no

    ReplyDelete
  23. You never know, he might develop well and then in a few years time sell him to city for £50m.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 'even playing in League 1 they make more than a decent living' haha so true

    ReplyDelete
  25. What makes you think it's not ?

    ReplyDelete
  26. the fact that sterling was the only real success story in the last 10 years or so?

    ReplyDelete
  27. and 1994th upvote:)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Keep trying you're bound to have a good one sometime ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well If you do find one, let JK know and he'll take it out

    ReplyDelete
  30. "finally, Liverpool beats arsenal in transfer market "
What sort of market is that Jaimie?

    ReplyDelete
  31. No that's RAY you're thinking of

    ReplyDelete
  32. I sure hope the front office realizes we need strikers instead of babies.

The good news is we didn't sign Montoya. In the games I saw, he was not impressive at all and the deadwood is finally being removed. Lets gets Balo, Borini and Lambert off the books with Enrique right behind them. If there is a God, we could than see Allen get moved and perhaps Markovic as well if we can sign a more proven attacker or promote one of our own kids who cant be any less impactful, and send him Portugal at a decent sale price .........

    ReplyDelete
  33. well i dont want to see it he can leave it in.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Don't you think Allen's exactly the sort of squad player that we need? Has never let the team down, always gives his best, can play any midfield role, understands tactics, and do a decent job, technically proficient and as far as we know a model professional. I'm very happy to have a player like that around! No need to move him on at all.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I make no guarantees.

    ReplyDelete
  36. On a brighter note, we all thought Luis was irreplaceable, but no we now have JFM

    ReplyDelete
  37. He does look a bit like him alright!

    ReplyDelete
  38. That doesn't really anything. Look at Chelsea academy.

They have winning everything for a few years now yet how many have reached their first team?

Most people would argue Chelsea do have one of the best academies simply because of the amount of money it generates for the club by selling those young players on for a massive profit.

    ReplyDelete
  39. well now that you brought it up, we don't seem emulate Chelsea either';)

    ReplyDelete
  40. hehe very true

    ReplyDelete
  41. Big mistake by the lad if history is anything to go by.

I give him 6-8 decades and then he'll be dead. I guarantee it, mate. Happens to all our youth prospects.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Now RAY does brighten things up.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Now we know where Milner will be playing

'I want to play football and play more centrally if I can - and that's where the manager said he sees me playing"

    ReplyDelete
  44. Up vote for 1000th comment. Actually agree with what you said too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Haha does he not know this is a family site?

    ReplyDelete
  46. :) Incredible!

    ReplyDelete
  47. i know something needs to be done.. this cant be happening with every generation of players..

    ReplyDelete
  48. disappointed that i had to scroll to the very end to find the double entendre.. but atleast you were up for it... :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Robo,

i'm not an Allen fan because he's too small to stop people as a DM and his offensive skills, passing/shooting/scoring are nearly non-existent. We need much better than that, IMO>

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nice, take a different tack and keep us all confused... Does he rate this deal, or is he being sarcastic....?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Not true....

    ReplyDelete
  52. Stan, I really can't think of anyone else and I'm really trying..

    ReplyDelete
  53. It has been a little dry of late, but things are taking a turn for the better... Sterling, Ibe, Rossiter, Smith, Sinclair to name a few.... There are plenty more...I think we just need to show a little patience.

    ReplyDelete
  54. well this season may just be about the time we get to Ibe get a consistent run... re Rossiter, Smith, Sinclair agree tho we should wait a couple years...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yep! it looks good though, for a change.

    ReplyDelete
  56. yeah tbh I'm excited myself too its been a long time since we had such amazing crop of young talents

    ReplyDelete
  57. I don't think you need to be a genius to guess what we're going to hear all season. "Don't judge us yet, wait till Christmas." ""This season was always going to be about transition." "Don't judge us yet, wait till Easter." "Wait tIll next season - and watch us go" "Don't judge him yet - give him more games." "We were always likely to lose a few matches early on." At Anfield the more things change, the more they stay the same.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yep, that's precisely what's going to happen. That, plus endlessly hearing about how James Milner is 'outstanding' and 'terrific'.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks - its only a bit of banter init mate

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah, let's pre plan our subs like idiots. Since reading comments on this site over a number of years, it is now sadly all too apparent why rival fans take the pi** out of us.

    ReplyDelete
  61. No team in the prem really played with 2 dedicated box to box central mids. We will at a minimum.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Messi has not replaced Mar. Ah, you know what, I just can't be bothered. You are a very special person.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Agreed. His performance against Man City and Toure and his willingness to sit quiet and wait for his chance make him an ideal squad player. Some have no idea of squad balance.

You are actually really annoying me now. I'm done. Maybe I'll come back when the season starts.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Not sure I get where you're coming from Bob. I'm bangin' on about defensive mids.
