Anfield Stunner: Agent hints 'world-class' boss wants Liverpool job. Sack Rodgers ASAP?

On June 1st, outgoing Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp insisted that he will 'take a break' from football 'until further notice, but after a mere eight days out of work, it appears that Klopp is eager to get back into the swing of things.

Speaking to German football website SPOX today, Klopp's Agent, Marc Kosicke confirmed that:

* Klopp - who is currently the bookmakers' favourite to take over at Liverpool - is interested in managing a team in the 'exciting' Premier League.

* He is also willing to work with a Director of football. Kosicke explained: "In Germany there is a clear separation between manager and sporting director. Jurgen does not like to speak to players’ agents"

* Klopp is happy to take on a team that's NOT in the Champions League. According to Kosicke: “It's about the challenge. When Jurgen signed for Dortmund there were other clubs who had better prestige [and] finances. Nevertheless, he decided for Dortmund".

* Kosicke also explained what Klopp will bring to his next club: “He has the great ability to develop things. If he feels the energy and thinks that he can make a difference, this is more attractive to him than going with the big deals"

Read between the lines: Klopp obviously wants the job!

This is an obvious and very transparent 'come and get me' plea directed at Liverpool as part of a calculated strategy - fully endorsed by Klopp - to entice FSG to make the German manager an offer.

And why not? Klopp is the perfect manager for the Reds; he ticks every box (CL not an issue; will work under a DoF etc), and if Liverpool miss out now, some other club will inevitably snap him up, and the opportunity will be gone for another 3-5 years (or perhaps even longer).

With the greatest respect to Brendan Rodgers, it's absolutely no contest. Klopp - recently hailed as a 'world-class' manager by Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan - is in a different league, and he has the history, trophies, and pulling-power to prove it.

As such, FSG should immediately relive Rodgers of his position, and appoint Klopp as Liverpool's new manager. There's no point wasting time, and sooner a change is made, the better.

The media claim that Rodgers' job is safe, but there's no official confirmation of that from anyone connected with Liverpool FC. In any event, Rodgers' position is quickly becoming untenable at Anfield.

I doubt he approved of the ruthless excision of Mike Marsh and Colin Pascoe, and if that's the case, Rodgers is a lame duck, who'll probably have a new assistant appointed over his head.

Additionally, if Rodgers has any sense of duty and personal responsibility, he'll fall on his sword instead of allowing his assistants to take the fall for his failures. Why should Marsh and Pascoe pay the price when Rodgers is mostly to blame?

The buck stops with the manager, but in this case, Rodgers is clearly happy to watch on as his loyal assistants are thrown under the bus, and that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

It'll probably cost £10m to pay Rodgers off, but that's chicken feed compared to the tens of millions he's wasted in the past, and will inevitably waste again in the future.

I have nothing against the man personally - it's purely about football, and over the last three years, Rodgers has (overall) proven that he just doesn't have what it takes to maintain a consistent title challenge and/or top four status.

Klopp is a winner; he wants to manage in the Premier League, and like Rafa Benitez, he has a history of breaking a dominant club's stranglehold on the league.

FSG: What are you waiting for? Bring Klopp to Anfield ASAP, or face the consequences next season.

  1. For me lallanas spot in the team is most under threat from milner and we payed 26m for him .......its beyond logic

  2. If Klopp is ready to come back, then of course I think it's obvious BR should be sacked.

  3. Khedira's injury history:

    * Two cruciate ligament injuries in four years.

    * Missed 87 games as a result of 11 separate injuries in the last 4 years.

    * A grand total of 20 injuries since 2008 (105 games missed)

    * Averaged only 23 league games a year since 2006.

    * This season alone: FIVE separate injuries, restricting him to only 17 appearances all season.

Juve have made a massive mistake. Khedira will get injured again in the first couple of months of the season, if not in pre-season. Total waste of money.

  4. more nonsense from good ole jamie k...this is with out question one of the worst websites I have ever come across. Each week the content gets worse and worse and his sources are highly unreliable.

    ReplyDelete
  5. If his credentials weren't incentive enough when will Liverpool again have the opportunity of getting a manager whose name, sounds like, and rhymes with Kop?

    ReplyDelete
  6. This would be amazing. Just can't see it happening this summer. The club should work through intermediaries , approach Klopp tell him he's first choice, but there giving rodgers 10-12 games. I think the fans might turn on him by that.

You never know though,a lot of back room changes & everybody is staying silent

    ReplyDelete
  7. Klopp will bring his own staff if he had to join. There is no point in bringing in new staff if they know they will only be around for half or one season just in order to try help Rodgers to succeed.

The funny part of all is that Rodgers coaching staff has been sacrificed and he is still here? Did he blame them for what happened last season?

    ReplyDelete
  8. While I agree about that atrocious injury history, how exactly bringing a bona fide world class MF for FREE at his age would be considered as a 'massive' mistake? even if the gamble won't pay off, still they can see this as a cover for their Midfield
the important thing is he is fit to play NOW and the Madrid injury report is debatable as the player has confirmed that is exaggerated an he had a tremendous world cup in between injuries? IMO, if he manages to play 20-25 games for Juve he has more of a chance of success than JFM.

  10. Relieve Brendan Rodgers of his duties! Bring Klopp in.

    That's all folks.

  11. This would certainly be my choice, but unfortunately I think the ship has sailed. I pray we don't end up regretting that choice. As it is though, Rodgers is our man and we should get behind him. If bet against him we bet against the club.

  15. We should e so lucky. Rodgers is simply a corporate survivor who has bought time with his bosses by agreeing with them. I am afraid we are stuck with him.
I am genuinely concerned that we will not see us challenging for the top title ever again. The roots of our demise go deep and long and started when the clown David Moores took charge, We ve been left behind ever since

    ReplyDelete
  16. You mean in the pre season game where the only objective was to rotate the squad and work on match fitness?

  20. I think u guys are being a bit harsh on Rodgers, he is a good a manager. We have 1 bad season n that's it u turn ur back on him. This season will be his real test. We know how well markovich can play as we saw it on Sunday night give him this season to see if he's good enough

  26. How can Cech be compared to Milner? Entirely different positions & the middle of the pitch is crying out for experience. IMO Milner is a no brainer & 20mil for Cech, thanks but eh,,,,,no thanks.

  27. Reached a cup final and qualified for Europa

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sounds world class.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Most reports have Cech at £9-10m for Arsenal, I doubt Mou would sell him to us for more than that.
That said Cech himself said he'd prefer to stay in London because his family is settled there.
As for Milner most sources put his wage at £100-110K per week rather than £150K and even with a signing on fee it still doesn't amount to anywhere near as much as paying a fee for a player and then a similar wage.
Cech at £20m (or even 10m) +100K a week is more much of an outlay than Milner even at £150k which he's most likely not on.

  30. In my opinion if Rodgers is given a really small budget this year then I think he's finished and they will be looking for other people. Maybe FSG are trying to force him out to avoid paying his compensation ? But whatever the case, I'm not Rodgers out but when a manager like Klopp is available it's a no brainer. If Rodgers starts the season poorly I think that's him finished and I would not be surprised if he resigns before the season starts.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Klopp wants a break otherwise I'd say go get him now. But the worst thing the club could do, is fire Rodgers, get rejected by Klopp and then having no manager. Nobody wants a John Carver situation

    ReplyDelete
  32. Klopp wants a Director of Football. His agent said he doesn't like to personally get involved in the transfers.

  33. Love the heading Jamie, LFC to sign Outstanding International Star.

When did Bogdan qualify to be an "Outstanding International Star"?

    More misery...

    ReplyDelete
  34. 6 trophies in 7 years, including 2 Bundesliga titles, reached a champions league final, as well as making BvB an established post group stage Champions league team. All that achieved on a total 7 year spend of less than £54 million, even more remarkable when you consider Lewandowski (a £50+ million rated player) left on a free...so yes Robo, I would agree with you. He does indeed sound World Class!

  42. Considering at end of November bottom of the league a damn fine recovery!
In his opinion? or various opinions?
He think his voice is no longer having the same effect in the dressing room and came to a natural end point.
Others say he has burnt out players with his high intensity demands, others say Rues and Hummels being out for beginning of the season killed teams confidence. Many theories, including Munich poaching his top stars every year....My point is judge him on his tenure of 7 years and not just last season.

I have massive Ngog, Ngoo, Pongelle, Le talec, Meijer, Baros sized concerns about Origi. I really don't think he is good enough. I don't hink he gets in behind defenses naturally and when a player has to be coached about which runs to make to get in on goal like Ngog or Heskey the end result will usually be a bad one. Scoring of the dribble probably won't be as difficult for the kid but something tells me his movement is natural enough to conquer the prem. (Similar to Ballotelli in many ways)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh. So we should just look at the good things a coach does and not at the mistakes they made?

Why didn't his voice have the same effect in the dressing room? Does he not change the things he says? Is he limited?

Burned out the players? That doesn't sound good does it?

Couldn't compete with a high spending club? But there's only one of those in Germany. In England there are 5 others. How would he cope?

    ReplyDelete
  46. And not forgetting that Klopp reached a CL final too. Proven himself in Europe.

I hope Hyppia wasn't philosophising and passing on his theories and placing into practice the the real LIverpool way at Brighton (18 games 1 victory)

He was a great reader of the game and it was a miracle that the slowest defender I have ever seen on a football pitch never got skinned (unless it was Drogba :). History unfortunately demonstrates that former LIverpool players with the exception of Kenny and Toshak are not cut out for managerial roles.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Rodgers is a coach not a manger and an average one at that, the manager is everything I remember Brian Clough when he was first at forest making a rag tag team win the European cup ......klopp has the potential to attract players who want to learn at the top level ,if I'm honest I don't think Rodgers knows anymore than me and that's a worry as I don't know much

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh deary me. Your head is so far up all you can smell is daffodils .

  58. You do realize 5 different clubs have won the Bundesliga in the last 11 years and 2 other clubs have finished 2nd...It isn't the 2 club league some may assume.

So are you saying it's harder to finish above Chelsea and Man City then it is B Munich are you?

Some of your question do embarrass you...It has often been cited as a reason by Managers leaving after a long period at one club.

Limited? Doesn't change things? You mean like Rodgers yeah? Suarez has gone and Sturridge is out injured, so he continues to play the the same high line attacking football without a goal threat. Instead of amending the tactics and formation to suit the players available to him, or to suit the strikers available to him...just carry on with the same system as per normal and play players out of position instead?

Rodgers plays a watered down version of Klopps gegenpressing game, so yes it is possible if too small a squad that players could burn out

We need to bring someone in BR would be forced out of respect to listen to. If BR is insistent on replicating the dutch\ Spanish way we should bring in a Rijkaard\ Overmars type coach who lived the 4-3-3 system and played it. We need strong characters who will bounce ideas into BR's dome.

    ReplyDelete
  68. markovic cant score like goals like that under BR coaching. maybe under Serbia coaching but not when you got a useless dillusional manager like Rogders who buys you as a left winger for £20m and plays you right wing back.....Markovic scored that goal from left wing, where he never played for LFC so i dont know why were proceeding this manager who says 'you'd expect tottenham to be challenging with the money they spent. hes a wasteful manager who has tarnished our squad with deadwood and removed our world class players like Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. to be honest if i was LFC manager none of those players would be going anywhere. Look at how Mourinho brought Terry back into the fold and found game time for Drogba. they won the double. Gerrard never had to leave, he is our top scorer once again, and our greatest legend. the reason why he is leaving is because we have no other world class players to get us through and Stevie to old to be relied upon. Carragher never had to leave but because BR said he would have a part time role, he said he would rather see out his LFC career playing than a bench warmer. hes far better than all the money wasted on centre backs. and King Luis Suarez....what more to say about the darling of the Kop. if only we didnt buy rubbish players like Aspas, Alberto, Moses and Lambert he would still be here. if we just bought world class players instead he would be part of our starting 11. but even if Barcelona bid £75m i would say no...LFC? European giants in the champions league with a world class player like Suarez? no chance..... he just signed a new deal and if we were ambitious he would be staying. forget the ban, when he comes back put him in and he scores 30. what a player. how we sold him, because of a petty ban shocks me, but the pain from it is not worth it.

  75. Irrespective, fat Sam is available. I would prefer Hyypia to take Brendan's job.

Nice in theory... and all managers have off days, but 1 victory in 18 games at Brighton doesn't fill me with confidence. In fact with the exception of Kenny and Toshak no former LIverpool player have done anything worthwhile in the game managerially.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I see, his self appointed agent!

  83. Most Liverpool fans criticised Rodgers this season for playing too many formations and trying too many changes, not too few.

I don't see anything in Klopp to suggest he'd do a better job than Rodgers. He's likable and progressive but he was found out in the end at Dortmund under much more favourable working conditions than Rodgers has faced at Liverpool.

I don't think either of them are "world class". But Rodgers' teams have consistently played the best football I've seen from Liverpool in 25 years, without having anything like the quality of playing staff that other bosses at the club have enjoyed. He's earned respect and the present feeding frenzy disgusts me.

    ReplyDelete

I don't entirely agree with his position but he has defended his views without being rude.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I don't think there should be any delay .....as our situation in January could be so precarious that, even staying in the premier league could be a major Gamble...As the drop in Liverpool fc continues under Rodgers...be rest assured that teams in the lower half, will always believe that we are beatable. ... Its gotten so bad that when lower teams beat us they don't even celebrate the victory...Unlike when same happens to Chelsea/Man city/Arsenal etc...In Liverpool "RODGERS" has steadily and systematically lowered the STANDARDS at Anfield....Even during the Daglish era we won a Trophy...3yrs with Rodgers nothing to show for it!!

Klopp ...has what it takes to take us back to our known standards...let us remember that a Decade ago we won the Champions League..and where a force to reckon with in Europe.

Klopp,is far better, technically and in all ramifications than Rodgers...but i doubt...the needed change will come Now...

I think it has to be done right now. Bring in Klopp so he can sign who he wants and who LFC need. He can stop the ings and Milner deals too!

I agree if not now, it wont happen and next season we will either be trying to prize him away from another team or we will get nobody we want since Benitez is at madrid now.

I feel that he can attract top players without CL simply because of history. Maybe he could even convince Reus. Of course I'm kidding but I'm sure there are many players who'd jump at the chance to play for him at LFC.

These comments were clearly meant for LFC too, who else would they be talking about? I can see him touching the this is Anfield sign and taking our team to where it belongs! He will have better financial support too so I do not see a single negative about this deal.

    Go get him!

    ReplyDelete
  92. One of the misconceptions of the 21st century is that because some one has a title or is payed more they 1are automatically more intelligent or better adapted at a specific role .......when I see Rodgers all I see is a man who has won nothing and used 220m in the pursuit of that goal

  103. "Most Liverpool fans criticised Rodgers this season for playing too many formations and trying too many changes, not too few"...tweaks to the same overriding system and ethos of high tempo attacking football. Newcastles Keegan managed side of the mid 90's also changed the tactics and formations, the style of play never changed though!

Rodgers would rather put square pegs in round holes and use the excuse of not having strikers, than find a system of playing that suited the squad available to him!

I'm sure could be successful next season if we buy the right players, but what happens when injuries and suspensions to key players...same old and make excuses or find a solution?

The season before last was the perfect storm. I'm surprised you can't, or are not willing to see that.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I suspect while Klopp is lurking in the shadows. Rodgers needs to start next season well, or come Xmas...

    ReplyDelete
  118. lol *chuckles*

    ReplyDelete
  119. First paragraph is interesting. I think the style has changed a lot over the three years. Rodgers' coaching objective is clearly to have a team who can play different ways to suit opposition and challenges which arise in the match and over the course of a season. Everything is geared to that. That's why players must demonstrate and develop tactical and positional flexibility.

Keegan's Newcastle... ah! Wasn't it a traditional attacking 4-4-2 with two wingers and two strikers no matter what? I guess sometimes there was Beardsley roving around. Marvellous, jumpers for goalposts. I think it's a useful comparison for me, too, because it's clearly not what Rodgers has done.

I thought that trying the various false 9s coincided with our best form of the season. Working with the strikers we had got us nowhere. It seemed to me that was something Rodgers got right this season.

I don't think 2013-14 was a fluke, no. Our form in the second half of 2013-14 made it clear that we were going to be competing at a high level the following season.

I probably am in a minority, but Klopp would not be the first coach to struggle to adapt to a new league, new conditions, new players, and so on, after a long period of success elsewhere. If he came to Liverpool I'd expect a period of uplift but I wouldn't be surprised if things fell apart for him. the problems at Liverpool are systemic. I'm happy to see things changing however, and I appreciate the role of our talented head coach in changing them over the last three years.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Why "unlike Rodgers"? Rodgers has claimed some fine victories.

It doesn't at all detract from Klopp's achievement that he has done so. I don't know why, because you like Jurgen Klopp, Brendan Rodgers has to be no good.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Rodgers' coaching objective is clearly to have a team who can play different ways to suit opposition and challenges..objectives maybe, in reality not a chance!

So why can't Rodgers? Why does he wait until half time to make changes, when it's clear to everyone watching, things are not working. Can't he make changes from the technical area, does he have to wait to half time before making changes and giving instructions?
I was referring to the ethos of Newcastle not changing..not how the team set up.
Klopp IMO would be the closest you could get to consistency after changing the manager. Not only have FSG copied BvB's overall business plan but Rodgers copied his style of play. No need for the massive squad overhaul that normally comes with the change of manager, as most players would fit into Klopps style...apart from poor Mario :)

  122. I secretly agree!

    ReplyDelete
  123. How Rodgers can have any supporters left ( who are not United fans ) is utterly beyond me. Of course they should get Klopp if poss...very much doubt if it is, though.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Not at all. My point was Rodgers doesn't know how to not lose big games. V Chelsea last season and United this season.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Not really, is clopp any better?, we can't answer that until he's managed in the premiere league.
Last season was problematic with the loss of Suarez and Sturridge, though to be honest the scattergun transfer policy hasn't helped! How much of that is imposed from above? We just don't know, so would a new ,untried manager fair any better with the same constraints?.
So give all that, I would leave well alone

  129. Not at all I have often defended him on the echo from those who say hes a fraud, or make irrelevant comments about what colour his teeth are or who he sleeps with, or car he drives...But IMO and many others he was found out last season as a one trick pony. One who is often tactically outwitted, unable to adapt. Maybe in 4 or 5 years he will become a top manager, but for me I'm happy buying young potential players, but I want my manager to come with a proven track record and the finished article...Walks the walk and doesn't just talk the talk/

  133. Jurgen Norbert Klopp CV

I was tasked with rebuilding a club that had barely survived financial ruin, and did not have the money or will to compete for players in
the transfer market (sound familiar?). Thus, I was instructed to take a team
from 13th place in the league and to build a system around Dortmund’s youth
academy graduates and cheaper experienced players (sound familiar?).

In my 1st season my team won the supercup within 2 years my team won the Bundesliga and the following year they won it again, this time
with the greatest amount of points ever amassed in Bundesliga history, as well
as winning the DFB-Pokal. The following year we won the supercup again and got
to the Champions league final. We then retained the supercup and this year we
are in the final of the DFB-Pokal, and if we can win it that would be my 7th trophy in 7 years, as well as making Dortmund a regular fixture in the
    champions league.

Our signings include Mats Hummels for £3.6m, Lukasz Piszczek on a free, Robert Lewandowski for £4.1m, Marco Reus for £15m, Ä°lkay Gündogan for £4.8m, Kagawa for £294k. I also developed through our youth academy players
including Mario Götze and Nuri Sahin.

I instructed my team to play a style of play known as “gegenpressing”. This was the perfect style of play for a club with limited
financial resources, as its structure is built around the qualities of players that would not cause a player’s transfer value to escalate. I demanded my players play with maximum intensity and passion, always aggressively pressing their opposition, and always attempting to run their opposition off of the
    field.

I favor a narrow and compact 4-2-3-1 formation which prefers to attack with a technical counter when the opposition is open and exposed. In
defense, we attempts to limit the playing area that their opposition has to play through by playing a high defensive line, and compressing their wingers and fullbacks into central areas.

I prefer to press the opposition in their half to minimize the distance my team has to travel to get into scoring positions. When he is
forced to press deeper from central midfield, Dortmund’s center forward drops
deeper creating a defensive 4-4-2 formation with their opposition’s center backs unmarked.

When my team regain possession of the ball, we look to push the ball forward as quickly as possible. This requires center backs to have the
    technical ability to initiate attacks.

With central midfield purposefully congested, my fullbacks must attack aggressively as they are responsible for the transition from
    defense to attack.

I plays direct and athletic wingers, while allowing one the freedom to cut centrally and build play. (Ibe and Sterling?)

In my personal life I am a Christian and happily married family man with two children.

I am currently seeking a new challenge and employment in the EPL. I am passionate, loyal and humble. I am adored by my players and club fans, and am used to working within the restraints of a sensible budget compared to my rivals and a policy of buying and developing young talent and with a director football….with a proven track record in both developing players and winning trophies.

    Gissa Job!

  136. Rodgers and Klopp re both Bielsaphiles, aren't they, all about transitions and rotational movement. So let's get Bielsa -- go straight to the source :)

Remember Rodgers got massive flak for a first half change -- a necessary one -- against Villa in the semi final at Wembley. He does change things throughout the match if necessary.

I followed your point about Newcastle! My sense was that Rodgers' team is much more adaptive than Keegans'. Obviously they try and win games -- we've seen them counter and control to try and do so. It's not just kick and rush. We haven't seen them try and destroy, of course. For which I will be eternally grateful, frankly... though the home game against Chelsea last season... maybe...

The game when I changed my mind about Klopp, who I always liked and still rate as a good coach, was against Bayern in December 2013, the 0-3 defeat, where he didn't seem to have any answers at all, and at which point things started to go sour for him at the club. The 4-0 against Arsenal this season was a similar moment for Rodgers. I believe he could recover from it, however -- there's still some momentum within the squad. I believe that I'm of the majority view in feeling that Rogers has earned the right to try and turn things around himself.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Maybe they are waiting for Milner to sign before making any changes? Just a theory...he said he wouldn't have signed if BR hadn't still been here and can't actually sign anything till July 1st....

    ReplyDelete
  138. Agree with you! My Man Utd mates can't stop rubbing it in!

B Rod is OUT of his league!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Not the real BIG games. The can't afford to lose games. And before you come up with the old Gerrard slip couldn't be foreseen. Moan-io knew its in Rodgers DNA to attack and set his side up not at worse draw and at best pounce on any error and punish.
The Man Utd game this season. All week beforehand everyone was saying Fellani would target Can and United would play the long pass to him, allowing the United midfield to press quickly...exactly what happened and what did Rodgers do? Stood on the half way line open mouthed until making the change at half time!

    ReplyDelete
  140. How you can rationally argue that Rodgers is a better coach than Klopp is beyond me! And believing you are in the majority...wow!

    ReplyDelete
  141. Me too. Rodgers has his faults and made mistakes, but we were the arguably the best team in the league this season for 3 months and without a striker of note. I'm tempted by Klopp, but I think Rodgers deserves another season as not only have we played the best football under him for 25 years, we came the closest to winning the league in all that time.

But I hope you grasp my main point that there is no sense in over-hyping Klopp, who failed in the end at Dortmund in a quite spectacular way. He is not Jupp Heynckes. He is not Pep Guardiola. He is not Jose Mourinho. Klopp did some things well and some things not so well. If you follow Bundesliga closely you will know that not everything Klopp touched at BvB turned into gold. Nevertheless Tomas Tuchel inherits a great club and it will be interesting to see what he can do.

I don't know what kind of judgements about the kind of person I am you can reach based on my opinions about football managers but you are welcome to them.

  146. Yes, Van Gaal emphatically got the better of Rodgers this season. I don't know what could have been a BIGGER game than Man City at home last season though.

    ReplyDelete
  147. If you think that's what I'm arguing, if you hear me saying anything that simplistic, then we're not going to get anywhere further here, I don't think. My posts are there for you to re-read if you can be arsed. The most commonly held view I come across among reds is that Rodgers should have until Christmas which seems fair.

    ReplyDelete
  148. "failed in the end at Dortmund in a quite spectacular way"...his worst season in 7.. yet still achieved more than Rodgers?

7th place and Europa league qualification
    Topped Champions league group
Got to equivalent of FA cup final

So if that's spectacular failure, how does Rodgers not reaching a cup final and not getting out of a very poor champions league group?

He is not Jupp Heynckes...yet he beat Jupps star studded side to win two leagues in a row and beat him in cup final?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Why wait until next season to maybe sack Rodgers, he should already be gone. Not wanted here, we the supporters can all see that, why are FSG still holding on to him. My opinion is that it's £ related and nothing to do with having faith in obscure peanut brain of a manager.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Knowing BR, yes probably.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I don't know. Who is he? I've only heard of a Petr Cech.

    ReplyDelete
  154. That last Heynckes team was a beautiful answer to Klopp's challenge, one of the best teams I've ever seen. The CL final was magnificent payback for BvB's impertinence.

This season was a disaster for Dortmund, yes, of course it was. Beaten twice in a fortnight by Wolfsburg at the end of the season in the league and cup was just the fecal icing on the... cake. Some of their football was absolutely abject. And Bundesliga was poor this year overall, too.

I'm not going to talk up a season of mediocrity from Liverpool. But I don't think you should be doing the same about Dortmund's disastrous campaign either. Lest we forget, a season which ended with the resignation of their iconic manager, whose position at the club had become untenable.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  156. They were bigger games!
v Chelsea we could afford to draw and still win the league, we couldn't afford to lose!
I'm not saying he hasn't had good results, I'm just saying when the TWO must not lose games have come about, he has persisted in playing attacking football. And however good this is to watch, I would have been happy if he double parked buses in both of those games if need be.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Does anyone know how to setup a online petition on wether Rodgers should be given another chance or be sacked. It really would be interesting to see such results.

    ReplyDelete
  158. BvB changed football history. It was their nerve to topple Munich that made Munich go all out to regain top spot, spending a fortune and poaching BvB players. Don't forget Munich only won 2-1 with a very late goal from an ex Dortmund player :)
BvB's worst season in 7 years season was a disastrous but STILL BETTERr than Liverpools. Both qualified for Europa, yet Dortmund won champions league group and reached a cup final.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I dunno. I really don't know. Even after a year I still can't decide. I don't think parking the bus would have worked actually. But we really didn't do enough to expose Chelsea's weaknesses in that game.

I don't know what to make of the Man Utd match. Terrible performance. I tend to look at players before the coach, to be honest, and even some of our established stars under several different managers at club and international level have left something to be desired in pressure situations....

Ah well. We'll see. Thanks for a good discussion tonight anyway!

    4. Meet with BR and say goodbye. hand him 10m. Given past and likely future waste, we saved millions on mediocre Joe Allen clones.
    5. Hold high level 3-4 day meetings with all the staff and scouts.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Totally and utterly agree Jaimie! The sacking of Pascoe and Marsh seems so strange to me! Pascoe was brought in under Rodgers recommendation why else would he have been given the job? So the board come to the conclusion the reason for the poor season was Pascoe's and Marsh's fault but on what basis and logic is it based on? It is only one of three Options Option 1: Rodgers has pointed the finger at them! Option 2 FSG are trying to force Rodgers out! Or Option 3: The board don't trust his judgement and decision! If it's Option 1 then he should have fallen on his sword with them as he chose them or if it's Option 2 Rodgers is refusing to budge without a hefty payout or Option 3 The board should just sack him if they don't trust him as what's the point of having a manager even the board can't trust. The plot thickens! If FSG are trully intent on taking the club forward then change is needed and Klopp is the perfect man for the job

  174. It's amazing to me how many young forwards at the elite end of the modern game don't understand the basics of how and when to show and when to go, how to take control of the defenders and put them where you want as an attack builds. Basics!

I agree, Origi reminds me of Welbeck, who's obviously a decent player but again the movement isn't right. We desperately need someone who can lead the line with a bit of pace. Half, maybe more than half the PL central defenses are absurdly vulnerable against pace as we saw in 2013-14. I don't know how they are getting away with it really.

...I also can't help wondering about one thing JK alluded to - that FSG have made absolutely no comment whatsoever; not before any such meeting and not since...

..suddenly Colin P is gone and then Mike M also..., Br's support structure is pulled from under him and most probably without consultation.
Colin P had only one year left and I'm not aware of Marsh's contract..but I hazard it wasn't much, so it means they were relatively inexpensive to sack; however BR is not - are we sure FSG are not making it wildly impossible for him to remain, by taking away any security and not openly supporting him in hope he will resign and forego his contract fee..

..If so, FSG are probably in for a shock; BR is not going to resign...

..They are going to have to be proactive and sack him if they really are after Klopp...

Back on subject, Jamie is right. Mignolet has let in over 100 goals in 2 seasons. No world class keeper does that. No one can tell me that 100% of those goals were the fault of the defence in front of him. Mignolet has to be replaced and I will bet that our defenders suddenly start conceding less. Just being a shot stopper doesn't constitute what is needed to be a top keeper. Spurs and Southampton have better goalkeepers than we do. That just should not be the case.

    ReplyDelete
  186. No argument from me JK. It's a no-brainer.

    ReplyDelete
  187. I'm convinced FSG expected Rodgers to resign when they sacked Pascoe and didn't renew Marsh's contract. This was definitely the cheapest way to get rid of Rodgers but he is holding out until he's sacked with a handsome pay off. After all he has an expensive divorce settlement and he knows he won't just walk into another high profile job.
Not that i'm totally convinced by Klopp but he's certainly an upgrade on Rodgers but that ain't too hard.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Yes it does.

Messi is going to River Plate.

There, that's a rumor. But I have no knowledge about anything regarding Messi, his agent or even River Plate for that matter.

Therefore it's as good as a lie.

The fact that there are many big sources suddenly pointing out a random championship player wanted to join from anywhere has to have started from somewhere.

And how do you know if it's a rumor or not? What if it actually was true? Besides, given the signings of Ings and Milner, Bogdan would not be that hard to believe.
