Transfer Update: 3-days after signing, £6m Liverpool 'leader' gets worst possible news: he's going back to the Championship

The ink is barely dry on Joe Gomez's Liverpool contract, but it appears that Brendan Rodgers is already thinking about sending the £6m youngster out on loan next season.

According to the Burton Mail (which covers Derby):

"[Gomez] will start pre-season with the Reds but is expected to go out on loan, with Championship side Derby thought to be interested".

This is the most predictable transfer news of the summer. With the incredible competition at Anfield, it's obvious that Gomez has no chance of breaking into the first team any time soon, so the only real option is to go out on loan.

Gomez - who describes himself as a 'leader' - will probably not be happy with that, though. In his first post-signing interview with the club, he raved about:

* The prospect of 'training with quality players at Liverpool'.

* How he 'can't wait to get started' at Anfield and 'learn' from the 'top players' at the club.

* The 'opportunities' for young players under Rodgers, which is why he was 'really keen to come and play under him'.

Gomez also made it clear that he wants to fight for a first-team place ASAP:

"I want to come in and challenge and be involved...challenge for a place, and make my debut as soon as possible".

Well, talk about crashing down to earth with a bang (!)

Judging by his comments, Gomez clearly expects to be given the opportunity to challenge the likes of Sakho, Lovren, and Toure for a place in the first team, but that isn't going to happen.

Instead, Gomez be farmed out on loan, and sent straight back to the Championship, the league from which he just escaped. There's be no training with the first-team; no first-team competitive debut; and no playing under Rodgers (for a year or so, at least, and given the Ilori/Coates/Wilson precendents, perhaps longer)

There's also no indication from Gomez's comments that Liverpool informed him (during negotiations) that he'd be loaned out so quickly, so it'll probably come as a bit of surprise to the youngster.

All of which begs the question: why sign Gomez in the first place?

* If the plan was to send Gomez back to the Championship, why not just leave him at Charlton for another year to develop?

* Liverpool could've just signed Gomez in 2016, or completed the deal this year but immediately loaned him back to Charlton, where he made 24 appearances last season.

* Now, he'll come to Liverpool for pre-season, get a taste of the big-time, and then be palmed-off on some other Championship team, where there's no guarantee that he'll get the opportunity to play regularly.

It doesn't make sense to me: why disrupt a Gomez's entire life by ripping him away from friends/family at such a young age, and then send him to another part of the country where he has no familial network in place?

This is a teenager we're talking about, and at the age of 18, the support of family is vital.

All I can say is: be careful what you wish for. Gomez wanted a move to Anfield, and he'll now have to deal with being shunted from club to club whilst waiting in vain for a run of games in the first team.

Welcome to Liverpool FC! (For a couple of months, at least)

  1. Did you expect him to play for Liverpool?? I think this was expected.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I didn't expect it; *he* expected it - this is clear in the article from his comments on the subject.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yeh well..he will have to wait. There are other potentials signed before him who are yet to get a chance. I think this is a good news. He wasn't a regular at Charlton and hardly played at CB there. Hopefully he gets a good run of games in Championship this year and then in Premier league next year. Like Wisdom.

  4. I think hes just a confident kid who wants to to everything yesterday, the over exuberance of youth.. wouldn't expect any new signing young or old to come in and say my hope is to go out on loan.. I cant imagine he will be to down about it.. Derby play at a higher level then Charlton in terms of expectancy and would be one of the favs to go up so playing with that added pressure will only benefit him..and they did a great job with Wisdom and Ibe.. wise move all around for me.. loan him out for a year and then let him replace Kolo next season as a right sided center back

  5. Very little Liverpool do makes any sense. Very few of their signings make any sense. The reason they are in such a terrible mess is because of bad decisions, bad signings, bad tactics and bad everything that go back many years but which have been cruelly exacerbated by a certain Mr Rodgers. The healing process will take many seasons, but cannot even begin until he is got rid of.

  6. I'm pretty certain thee discussions would have been had with the player before he signed, and let's be honest a new player isn't going to say it's great to sign for Liverpool and I can't wait to be loaned out.

Regarding Derby, although it was with a different manager they have helped bring on a few players now and I don't see any reason why that wouldn't be the case here.

  7. Take off those rose-tinted spectacles, Martin!

    ReplyDelete
  8. It's pretty obvious why we wouldn't wait to sign him, your acting like this is a total novelty and it's only LFC that would do this? all top clubs buy young players like this early and then loan them out. Get over it hardly worth a whole article about it and acting like its a big deal. Pretty sure Gomez was made fully aware of what will happen before he signed like every other young prospects that sign for any other big club.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hmmm let me think JK, why not just let him stay at Charlton for another year.....then we could just buy him for

    ReplyDelete
  10. Derby are a good side though aren't they (no disrespect to Charlton) but I think Derby will be more likely at the pointy end of the Championship and provide a better stepping stone for Gomez to expand his game and possibly move to us in a season or two's time.
Also I think Shaun is certain to be correct - I'm sure his parents and agent must have asked and known what the chances were that he'd be loaned straight out.
Seems far preferable than not getting any playing time with us and if it happens I wish him the best of British, hope it goes well and he can join us in the near future.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ha ha, would have guessed? Gomez is going to be part of which starting eleven this season? Not LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I £40,000,001 agree.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It seems to me it's almost the done thing to be negative on this and many other lfc sites lately.

All the negativity directed at milner, ings and Origi before they've even kicked a ball for lfc. It doesn't make sense. Surely give them a chance and then judge them.

Rodgers may yet surprise us all and rediscover some of the style from 2013/14 season.

We may still end up with a some exciting signings. Konoplyanka/firmino, kovacic, Clyne and a striker.

If we don't then so be it. Let's worry about it if that's the way it pans out when the season starts. I'd prefer to be optimistic and hopeful for a change although I know I'll be in the minority!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Honey badgers (not directed at Martin) are small but the most fierce animals around. I have seen 3 fully grown lions taking on that creature all at once and it walked away eventually dying 5 days later of infection.

Do not f*** with the Badger.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, this was obvious and bound to happen.. We paid more for Illori than we did for this guy and have not given him a single chance. If the past guys have never gotten a chance, there is no way this guy is going to. The most pointless signing of the year and we already have Bogdan. Well, I guess the only way is up.

    ReplyDelete
  16. So much of positiveness mate!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ilori is now 21 and is to be offered a new deal and be included in the first team squad this season. Need to look a bit past what is going to happen tomorrow mate. Ilori had played only 12 first team games when he arrived despite his talent and needed to go and develop. Its not exactly unusual for big clubs to do this.

    ReplyDelete
  18. So when we have a player like Illori who was bought for almost similar reasons to Gomez a few seasons back, why are we repeating the cycle? We already have the man for the future in Illori so why not give some faith in him before buying more potential. And, what does this signal to the other academy CB's already at the club. It is just not a good way of doing business because we do not have the resources to stockpile players like others do.

    ReplyDelete
  19. And then overlook the academy too. Gamoz mentioned how Rodgers is willing to give youngsters a chance. Who? The players he has signed?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well, I am pretty sure Shelvey, Suso, Illori, Luis Alberto, Teixeira and countless others will have something to say about that!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. You could see that as a slight failing of our PR department again.
Possibly they should have briefed him better in what to say, or maybe they were even naïve enough to suggest he give the impression he was in with a shout of first team football, in the hope it would quench our insatiable thirst for pre-window signings.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And now Gomez who scuppered these words after being signed by Brendan will most likely? Go? On? Loan?

    Speechless.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I find it hard to believe that in the negotiations, the likely prospect of a loan was never brought up.

I understand what Gomez said... but why does everything have to be taken at face value. What's he supposed to say? "I look forward to signing at LFC to go out on loan"?

It didn't take a rocket scientist to see this as the most likely scenario. If Joe Gomez didn't see this coming from a mile away, that would scare me more about the transfer than anything else.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I thought Rodgers isn't making the signings since he hasn't spoken and that's your evidence that he's going to be officially fired any day now.

So did Rodgers sign Gomez? Or did someone else at the club sign Gomez?

    ReplyDelete
  25. ...unless you're three fully grown lions apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Or you've got a gun...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Liver Bird > Honey Badger ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. What does it matter if Rodgers stays?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well!! I guess the way is up!! Sky says we have agreed a deal for Firmino..

    ReplyDelete
  30. I see what you did there ;-)

I have two Jack Russlless and they fear f all too :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. oh come on..!! i read that he was gonna be assessed in the pre season games and only after that would a decision to be made to loan him out.. he hasn't even kicked a ball and now we shove him straight back into the championship ?? i have officially ran out of reasons to have belief in any of the transfer dealings this shambles of a club makes..

    ReplyDelete
  32. i could only see that we have held talks.. where exactly have sky said its a done deal.. ?

    ReplyDelete
  33. It is like the tourist who went into the Lion Park with her windows rolled down and got ripped to shreds by a Lion who was inquisitive. Not a good idea especially when you are told to keep your windows up. The Badger does not have to.

  35. Funny you mention that bloke down pub had a breed of Jack with longer legs the other day and it was a smashing little dog, I like normal JR's too they have a heck of a lot of attitude for their size and blimey if they get sight of a rat - it's a gonna.
Imagine if one got hold of John Terry, wouldn't that be delightful.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Or maybe he was told before signing, who knows ? certainly nobody on here

    ReplyDelete
  37. and sky are more reliable than most.. first bid of good liverpool news i've heard..if its true..

    ReplyDelete
  38. Okay, so at least we have something to look forward to in this window, hopefully.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Right, so if the news of F

    ReplyDelete
  40. Can't argue with that, but you'd think he may have grounds for legal redress if that was proved to be true.
Obviously we all know the dangers of assumptions but I'm going to chance it and reiterate that IMO, his representatives would of known their clients wishes regarding whether or not he was happy to be loaned straight out or if guaranteed first team playing time was a pre-requisite to him signing.
This was almost certainly discussed between both parties and without knowing the exact legal implications of misleading a player to gain his signature, I'm fairly confident it would afford him a strong case if he was knowingly mislead.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Can we have some news about our new coaching staff now? Firmino clearly knows something we do not.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Terrible English...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Don't ask Logsn to explain his rants with logic and reason - his head will explode

    ReplyDelete
  44. The same old song.

    ReplyDelete
  45. But you sing it well...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Say hello to the next Illori!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Maybe we could have a duet

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well for one (and obviously most importantly), we have the name wager.

But for another, you've gone on and on ad nauseam about how Rodgers is not confirmed to stay, that Rodgers is responsible for all the failings and all the signings...

And here we have a situation where you're now claiming that Rodgers has signed Gomez... which is why I ask, how could Rodgers sign Gomez if you are so certain that Rodgers is not in control anymore.

    It's quite simple.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Imagine me and you... and you and me...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Has to be. I can't imagine a scenario where we spend so much on a single player without selling Sterling.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Where have I ever said Rodgers is not responsible for signings?

I have suggested that all his control might have been taken away but he is still a member of the existent transfer committee. Even if he has been put on gardening leave.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You've said that Rodgers is going to be fired. And you've used the lack of communication from the club as evidence of this (in spite of it being widely reported he's going to stay).

So if Rodgers is going to be fired imminently (as you suggest) why would he have any say whatsoever in the transfers taking place?

    ReplyDelete
  53. all his control might have been taken away and gardening leave -means- Rodgers is not responsible for signings.

    ReplyDelete
  54. There are 4.years between the two. We do have the resources to stockpile youth it's one of the only ways we can attempt to equalise our financial disadvantages. And even if we were on an even keep with others it makes sense to develop them in this way (through our academy if possible, but if not this way). Flanagan, Wisdom, Sterling, Ibe, Rossiter, Sinclair have all had opportunities in the first team from the academy so it's not like we don't produce players as well. With English players we are limited to who we can sign because of the catchment area rules which I have written about on here before, that means we have to pay fees for the best youngsters sometimes

    ReplyDelete
  55. We like Jack Russells too - though they are on the small side so you do need a couple for a proper meal

    ReplyDelete
  56. Flanagan, Sterling, Ibe, Rossiter, Brannagan, Wisdom, Sinclair....how many of these did Rodgers sign?

    ReplyDelete
  57. The beaver can be a lot harder to prey on :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. But lets face the facts, Rodgers would be utterly daft not to agree on signing Firmino even if he knew he could still go?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Common sense realism

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well done plucky little honey badger you put up an amazing fight and as a mark of our respect we won't kill you................immediately ..........

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ibe how many appearances before being farmed out on loan and clearly being ready? Wisdom? Do not make me laugh. Rossiter, Brannagan, Wisdom, Sinclair? Now you are making me laugh even more.

Flanagan made it into the 1st team back in 2010. Kenny introduced Sterling.

    You having a laugh, again?

  62. Figured...you are Shaun!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I've got a wee Jack Russell myself, maybe it's a kop thing...

    ReplyDelete
  64. Sterling sale going much smoother than that of the Suarez sale then.

The media have toned down plenty about Sterling. Weird ain't it?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Guys, looks like its finally happening!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Sky sources report that Liverpool have agreed a deal with Hoffenheim to sign forward Roberto Firmino.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Once they fully drop, the pain will only last a few hours. Avoid horses and bicycles. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't mind admitting that I'm quite 'Firm' thinking about this signing...

    ReplyDelete
  69. That should make for an awkward victory lap round town...

    ReplyDelete
  70. hhhaaha bob you're at it again;)

    ReplyDelete

Will be our biggest signing since Suarez so really hope it is happeing. One of many surprises to come? Or is it me just being me?

    ReplyDelete
  76. We shall see, Rodgers_Makes_Me_Horny ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  77. meh... the fee's okay, at least no low-balling this time

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  79. Because you have to keep development rolling. It's a business, and there's more to Liverpool than just the first team.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Shall we set faces to stunned?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Jaysus, we payed £25m for Lallana and getting Firmino at £4m more. Tits up.

    ReplyDelete
  82. here comes the full-package
    celebration ala Suarez!

    ReplyDelete
  83. If he was looking for playing guarantees he shouldnt have come to us in the first place. If he assumed he would come in and start at CB over established internationals then he is naive. Is this move really a surprise to anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Considering the fees paid for lovren, markovic and lallana hes the bargain of a lifetime

    ReplyDelete
  85. So this must be our marquee signing

    ReplyDelete
  86. Marquee player according to Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  87. he is by every scale

    ReplyDelete
  88. FSG have Brendan strapped to a chair Clockwork Orange style bombarding him with images of butterflies and WW2 atrocities

    ReplyDelete
  89. perfectly stated sir

    ReplyDelete
  90. Certainly not to me Red :)
Honestly, if you re-read my posts, I'm agreeing exactly with your sentiments, no way he was guaranteed first team football and in fact I'm sure he knew and was quite happy to sign knowing he was likely to be loaned straight out :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. Is the transfer fee not £18m with 5 year wages of £11m.

So a lot cheaper than Lalana..!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Shelvey had lots of time early on to impress, never really did though, same with Suso (i never really prefered either to be honest, so could be my bias). Teixeira i think is going to get time this year if he can recover nicely from injury. Alberto had off field issues that i think really hampered him, he could still come back and get a chance

    ReplyDelete
  93. i hear initial 25 plus 4m related bonuses

    ReplyDelete
  94. More like a GoT'esque walk of shame :-)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sky are quoting £18m..

    ReplyDelete
  96. Ok i think you right i read on guardian

    ReplyDelete
  97. Arsenal agree £10.9m fee for Chelsea's Petr Cech

    ReplyDelete
  98. Brilliant absolute brilliant signing for them. Quality keeper. Reckon Mourinho had to swallow his pride with this one but had no choice.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Have to give credit to Stu for that one.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Despite the great news of the Firmino signing.. no news about a DM signing..!

Also Firmino is a #10 and likely Sterling upgrade. In which case still need to nail Lacazette type deal, with Bacca most likely.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Made a deal with the devil.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Is Jenna Jameson in this one?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Its reported on the BBC now lads....£29m, personal terms agreed, Ayre in Chile now put pen to paper on five year deal. But of a statement of intent from FSG. Encouraging stuff

    ReplyDelete
  104. Next season watch out for the deadly LFC - Lallana Firmino Coutinho

    ReplyDelete
  105. Caitlyn Jenner? He or should I say it joins the party.

    ReplyDelete
  106. If Robbie really is his agent he will deffo sign. "God's jobs a good 'UN"

    ReplyDelete
  107. Impossible, BR can't attract good players.

    ReplyDelete
  108. ...flipp*n' h*ck.....!

...what are all the naysayers who insist we are a club in the realms of leeds and all clubs who have been relegated in the last five years gonna do if we actually sign Firmino.....?

....I mean..are we big enough any more to attract anyone....? oh sorry i forgot a French defensive national team stalwart is one of our players....oh and also a mini Brazilian couts who's just made the national team and looks as if he's stayin' in there.....oh and Can, one of Germany's up and coming stars......

...anyway if Firmino signs (and it looks like personal terms are done according tom, dick, harry and the BBC) then it looks like humble pie might have to be offered round because LFC regardless of what people think of our manager (yes, yes I know - but I still like him.... :)..

are still in the premiership and are still considered a big, strong club....

....I hope we all get a shot of enthusiastic optimism after this and hopefully w*cky-bacca (been dyin' to say that all day).....as much as I enjoy discord as much as the next man...it dunn-half get wearing.....

    ReplyDelete

  113. So Rodgers is still involved with transfers in spite of the fact that you believe he'll be gone imminently.

Thank goodness this is so far fetched that it can't be true.

I'll agree with you that Rodgers is on a relatively short leash, but the earliest he would be fired is the fall (more likely Christmas).

    It's not imminent

    ReplyDelete
  114. RE: Joe Gomez - what name by the way - its all in the name as some people say - will be great for shirt sales......

...anyway, regarding his loan out, the kid is 18 right...?

...last year lovren who is 25 yoa and experienced in the premier league, got skinned alive in our defence, lost his confidence along the way and developed a nervous tick and hand tremour for good measure...(made the last bit up... :)..

..to subject an 18 yr old to that would be akin to child ab*se....

..Rodgers is a good parent daddy....

    ReplyDelete
  115. Just out of interest if we were to secure above 3 and retain at least DS, Couts, Lalana and Ibe together with newbies Ings and Origi, we'll have 9 players for 3 positions ahead of a midfield trio of Milner, Hendo and Lucas.

Good strengh in depth up front but how would you keep them all happy?

    ReplyDelete
  116. ....oh balls....

...what you do that to me for Logan....I was just excited before I saw that....couldn't you leave me in my lovely little world bubble....?

    ReplyDelete
  117. The only difficult part of it is on City's side of the deal. Sterling wants to go, Liverpool happy to let him go for a big fee, City happy to pay a big fee. They just need to sort out FFP barriers first.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Again I think this is £18m fee plus £11m salary over 5 years.

Otherwise £29m on fees is a whopping amount...!

    ReplyDelete
  119. There is just a chance that this might lead to a domino effect where each successive signing sees a spot in a improving and well thought out team.
I would laugh my head up and start bakng a huge multi-sliced humble pie for certain people to eat...
But this is just one possible ending. Get him signed though, and the dream might just happen. Illaramendi next with Clyne and Bacca and we can start to put things right..

    ReplyDelete
  120. ...actually, on newsnow they reporting chelsea 'very interested' in stering.....

Sounds like a good idea to me, we only have to sign one.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Agree with you.. however still need the ace in the hole BR to act the conductor to make the orchestra to tick.

And that's the worry. We may after a long while finally start to get the player acqusition right.. but do we have the right leader in place?

  127. Firmino deal is not happening

this from Dave Maddox looks pretty intresting:

'Liverpool made an 11th hour attempt to hijack a Manchester United move for Firmino, and have agreed a deal with the player’s German club Hoffenheim,'

This is clearly Firminos way of getting Man united attention

Costa done similar to get an improved contract with Athletico and Willian done the same to get Spurs attention

    ReplyDelete
  128. I think the 4 million gets you the extra good character.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Who the f*** is Dave Maddox

    ReplyDelete
  130. I've been proven wrong before. I did not expect Frodo to get the ring to Mt Doom.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Definitely marquee!!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Not sure Firmino is a #9 more a #10.

    ReplyDelete
  133. We are saturated with CB's at the moment so I am also confused as to why using the clubs resources on an 18 year old Gomez and then loaning him out would make any sense? I am still waiting on Firmino with anticipation I hope it's true and does happen as he will really add sometihng special to our attack I guarantee it! People say the Bundesliga is a weak league and hark back to Everton destroying Wolfsburg as an example but Everton played a blinder and Wolfsburg didn't turn up so by that reckoning Stoke City are superior to LFC after that 6-1 drubbing?

    ReplyDelete
  134. Look nothing will make me happier if we win something under BR - and I say that without having to eat any humble pie.

However in order to do so BR will need to do stuff I dont believe he is capable of doing:

    1. Get his tactics right, at times varying style of play to suit player availability and strenghts of opposition.

    2. Stop having player favourites and pick the team on merit.

    3. Balance between outright offence and reasonable defence.

    4. Stay away from hyperbole and be stricter with player appraisal both in public and private. Maybe learn a touch of humility.

  135. well, 25M Euros = about 18M Pounds. Probably currency mixup.

  136. Perhaps the whole "BR is manager" thing?

  137. I think we will get him. I been saying this for a while. We need to sign stand out players from these type of teams. Just a level below us but not relegation fodder like Villa and Burnley etc. I also think there is a clear move away from signing PL proven players. It has not worked so far. I also feel it may be good to play him as a striker. Thats where Brazil uses him actually. Maybe just maybe we finally are seeing the light. Hopefully we get it wrapped u immediately and move on. No more saving pennies and losing dimes on last minute deals. You want the player, do what it takes to sign him. Period.

  138. Except the bit where he referred to the drunken, whiskey nosed, red faced, POS gobsh!te cucking funt of a pig as 'SAF'. I'll never recognise the S in that abbreviation. AF is probably the nicest thing I can call him.

  139. BBC reporting deal for Firmino has been agreed for £29m! It's nearly 4am am I dreaming?

  140. If Lallana is fighting for a place with Coutinho & Lallana...I think he's going to come out second best

    ReplyDelete
  141. Gotcha. I suppose I was probably really responding to the overall mood of comments on the site and mistakenly directed it at you. Can a player really take legal action for being loaned out though?

  142. The 14/15 BR was shorn of the tools up front required. That's the overall problem. He actually did well to mount any kind of surge for the top four in my opinion given our top scorer had 9 goals. After 36 games we had conceded 12 less goals than last season, and Mignolet had the second highest number of clean sheets, which is incredible given where we were in November. Where he did mess up was the last to games, the players were deflated, had nothing to play forand he didn't prepare them correctly mentally, but he will learn from that. We just need an out and out striker now really and Clyne to play RWB/RB and we will have the personnell we need

  143. Don't be such a sceptic Jamie have faith, liverpoolfc.com just confirmed his signing 😀 oh ye of little faith.

  144. Once again Jamies article sucked as was ways off . Great signing LFC made up. YNWA

  145. I'm impressed you found a cloud inside this silver lining.

I think the biggest problem with retaining BR is that he fails to attract big names. I think as long as players of Firmino's quality wants to sign, I think retaining BR might not be a bad decision for one more season. Let's hope he does something good with it.

Well I like Lallana, just not at that price really. His pressing is often overlooked, and he needs time to adjust to the system i am guessing.

That would be a dream. I would really like to see him sign for us.

  150. 22m fee, with up to 7m in addons.

  151. Loan out Origi and Ibe to Premiership clubs.
Ings to be our cup man/back up

    ReplyDelete
  152. Firmino is best coming in off the left, Lallana is best coming in off the right, so I'd swap those. Also Ings over Origi.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Firmino's best season came playing on the left and coming in.
Coutinho isn't a true wide player so he drifts inside anyway.
So swap Phil and Rob round and make sure Hendo knows he has to cover out wide, and you'll be set.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Nothing Hendo can't do ;)

    ReplyDelete
  155. What he means is, using a diamond formation where instead of Suarez and Studge you have Firmino and Studge.
Coutinho Can Hendo and Milner for the midfield I'm assuming Can at the base Hendo and Milner further forward and Phil at the tip.
He's not actually talking about goal output or anything like that, just the set up/tactics used would be similar.

  156. Done deal already....

    ReplyDelete
  157. Actually, I was sugar coating it. Wolves were a huge side in the fiftiees, but not now. Leeds were enormous, but not now. United were relegated in the 70s and Chelsea have been down too.I think the Pool could slide down a notch or two in as little as a couple of years if the current rate of incompetence persists. Fortunate I'm a Juve supporter really!

    ReplyDelete
  158. What is Firmino's shirt number? I think he should succeed Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Or maybe you have no clue.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Not too sure really, I do think it's highly unlikely that a Club would knowingly suggest one thing to a player and then do the opposite, and also that a player would sign not having a *very* good idea of where he'd be playing.
In fact, as with yourself, I think it's a bit of a nonsense to think otherwise ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  161. Doubt he ever thought he would start in his first season and almost certainly this was discussed during the deal. Ibe went to Derby for 6 months then came back and started some big games. This is good news for the player and club so don't really understand the story?
