Done Deal: Liverpool 'confirm' 7th completed transfer as 'excellent' youngster signs for Aberdeen on loan

Earlier this week, Liverpool reserve goalkeeper Dany Ward signed a new long-term deal with the Reds, and his reward? Immediately being farmed out on loan for the whole of next season to become the Reds' 7th** completed transfer of the summer.

On Tuesday, a statement on the Official Liverpool FC website confirmed:

"[Ward] has officially committed his future to the Reds by penning a new deal today. Ward has been a regular fixture between the sticks for the club's U21 team since making the switch to Merseyside in January 2012".

Today, Liverpool further confirmed:

"Liverpool have confirmed Danny Ward has joined Aberdeen on a season-long loan.

"The goalkeeper will spend 2015-16 with the Scottish side and could make his debut in Sunday's friendly with St Johnstone in Brechin".

Hardly an inspiring transfer for Ward, who was recently hailed by Liverpool U21 boss Michael Beale as an as 'excellent' shot-stopper.

However, if it means he gets regular game-time, it has to be preferable to wasting away at Anfield, and playing second-fiddle to second-choice goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.

That said, the loan deal does suggest that Ward is even further down the pecking order than he might imagine:

* What is Mignolet gets injured? Bogdan will obviously get the nod to replace him, and the third-choice 'keeper - currently Ward - will consequently be promoted to the bench.

* A similar situation happened last season: After Brad Jones got injured, Mignolet regained his place in the team, and Ward stepped-up to the bench to become 2nd-choice 'keeper.

* Now, if something similar happens this season, Rodgers will probably elevate Lawrence Vigouroux to the bench.

* The fact that it's Ward going on loan, and not Vigoroux (who's a year younger) suggests to me that Rodgers rates Vigoroux more than Ward.

I doubt Ward will be that thrilled to spend the season in Scotland, though if he gets regular playing time, it may ultimately be worth it.

In my view, Ward should grab the opportunity with both hands (sorry, couldn't resist!), and try to become Aberdeen's number one and earn a permanent move.

History shows that youth goalkeepers never make it into the Liverpool first team, so the best thing Ward can do is pursue a career elsewhere.

** IN: Ings, Bogdan, Milner, Gomez, Firmino. OUT: Aspas, and Ward.

  1. ** why what happened.....did I miss something while I was out...?

...where's clyne Jaimie.....? has he had a change of mind.....I'm confused...

...you are a website.......you have responsibilities....you need to keep us sane...... :)

  2. We're also *reportedly after Casillas. May or may not be true, but if it is, then perhaps Bogdan was always going to be 3rd choice?

    ReplyDelete
  3. He's on holiday. Medical next week.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Can't see it myself. I reckon Casillas will go to a sub-elite team that pays well like Besiktas or somewhere in Russia. Something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  5. ...thanks for that....panic over... :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. So we offer Ward a new long term contract and he goes out on loan?

If anything, he could have gone on the tour and proven himself. Kick in the balls if you had to ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Liverpool agree £4m Coates sale to Sunderland.

One down, many more to go...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Lately Liverpool haven't be known to be a club a know what they are doing transfer/contract wise.

    ReplyDelete
  9. It doesn't mean Vigoroux is rated better by BR. probably just means BR thinks two keepers are enough, plus finding a team for a young, untested keeper can't be easy..

    ReplyDelete
  10. Glad to be of service.

    ReplyDelete
  11. This could be a great move for him. He will be seen is a God amongst goalkeepers in Scotland

    ReplyDelete
  12. I've heard good things about Gordon Marshall, the new goalkeeping coach up at Aberdeen. Maybe he's a factor here.

Watching Argentina v. Colombia in the Copa, amazing match. So many wonderful players on both sides. Otamendi, apparently a Man Utd target, has caught my eye for Argentina. Wish we'd be linked with defenders of that calibre. Also Ospina, the Colombia and Arsenal GK -- with Cech coming in and Szezny there as a No. 2, I wonder if Ospina might be worth moving for? Wonderful player, great on the floor, magnificent presence and is playing brilliantly in this game under severe pressure.

    ReplyDelete
  13. This goes into the are loan moves good or bad argument.
Ibe showed last season a loan move can lead to 1st team football. but many have shown a loan move is the first step out the door.
I think this makes sense as we resigned him recently now we need to get him some game time and wanting a GK to be 1st choice in a somewhat challenging league cant be easy to do.
I think it would be counter productive to sent him to a league lower than the championship where he'd be guaranteed to start so a move to Scotland doesn't seem too bad. GOOD LUCK YOUNG MAN!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ospina will be no.2

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ospina moving on ,Szezny staying as no 2

    ReplyDelete
  16. My guess is he will remain at Madrid as a no.2 if not no.1.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yet another player who is only at Liverpool because they are young and should have a sell on value at some point. Too many players at the club are just stocks and shares on a balance sheet, it sounds great for the accountants running the club but it can't do much for staff moral and unity. Maybe that's why players like Sterling are only interested in what's best for them because they realise the club at some point will show no loyalty to them and will offload them when the price is right regardless.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I hate the way Big club sock on young players.

The most simple way of stopping this is to put a maximum on the number of players a club can register.. say 50. Any player who is not registered can not play in any competitive matches, reserve matches or be loaned out.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So Liverpool wants to sign Adriano, Pedro, Illara, Shaqiri, Benteke, Bacca, Kovacic and Rondon. Deal for Clyne is almost done.
    .
Is media going crazy only for Liverpool or other clubs are linked with these many players as well??

    ReplyDelete
  20. I reckon we will get all our business done before the window opens. Fees and contracts have been agreed for all the players we have already signed with medicals pending. When the window opens then it will be a matter making sure those who do not have a future at the club get moved on. Reckon Monday and Tuesday this coming week will be very busy with at least two more players arriving. Central midfielder and Striker.

    ReplyDelete
  21. We are always linked with hundreds of players.

Why so negative about the u21 squad and the loan system? "Wasting away at Anfield", " playing second fiddle to Bogdan", that's not really what the u21's are about. I'm sure Alex Inglethorpe doesn't say to his squad "you're all here just in case a 1st team bench player gets injured". They're a development squad and I'd say first team experience, wherever that is, has got to be good for u21 players
I'm sure its probably harder to find loan placements for youth keepers, after all keepers seem to generally suffer less injuries than outfield players, and Aberdeen must need a keeper.

  23. NonEventHorizon9:14 am, June 27, 2015

Could look at it as a vote of confidence - We want you and to prove it sign on long term with us, now here's an opportuniyy to go out and prove yourself in competitive first team football for a season

    ReplyDelete
  24. yes, add Hernanes to that list now.

    ReplyDelete
  25. To my knowledge you do not have to register youngsters from the academy? You can have as many in the your squad as you want.

You also have a maximum of 25 registered players for EPL.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Offering him a new long term deal stops him for leaving on a free and will get us a decent fee should he be moved on is a season or two.

    ReplyDelete
  27. For me the biggest signing so far for all clubs this season is Cech for Arsenal. Still one of the best keeper around.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I heard LFC wanna sign pedro... Pls jez pay the 20M to bacelona and sell sterling for 45M. bring in bacca and illaramendi. Top four is sure!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pedro signed a new contract with Barca. Just old rumours creeping out again. He will cost more than Firmino. Really not going to happen and not the player we need when we are overstocked.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Liverpool look to Hernanes according to Football Italia. Defeensive or Central midfield...

I like the idea of having Brazilian flair in our squad!

    ReplyDelete
  31. you were moaning the other week because you didn't hear an 'official statement' from them.. Now you don't want to hear it?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I was not moaning and where have I said I do not want to hear anything?

Like I said, enjoy the silence while you can.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Who's your money on for CM and Striker then Logan, or who do you hope they are? (realistically)

    ReplyDelete
  34. So we might meet our on loan keeper in Europe, not sure if he'd be prevented from playing against his parent Club but either way a bit of European experience will be good for him, hope he progresses well next season.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It is either going to be Bacca or Benteke IMO.

    Midfielder is anyone's guess.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Think your right, I have bad feeling it will be Benteke; like Jamie said in other article maybe he'd adapt to our way of play better than we think but I'd rather we didn't chance it - too many injuries as well.
That Kevin Volland looks quite good I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You think it will be a cm because we need it or because BR will make a mistake of signing a CM INSTEAD OF A dm?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Arturo Vidal is also moving to Arsenal for 21.3m

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why Hernanes when Illarramendi is available

    ReplyDelete
  40. Kovacic is a central midfileder, one which we want to/wanted to sign.

Now we are being heavily linked with who is another central midfielder but can play defensive midfield.

That is why I say central midfielder. Do not hold your breath on a proper DM being signed.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mate, like I said, when it comes to a CM it is anyone's guess.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Cech is the missing piece in the puzzle for Arsenal.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Logan wasn't moaning if anything the opposite.

Me on the other hand find it very strange.

I have never know a club to sign so many players and the manager to make no comment.

Since the meeting it appears that FSG have placed BR under a media blackout.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The way Arsenal conduct their business will make them a force, a real strong one, in EPL and UCL until Arsene Wenger decides to call it a day. In terms of financial stability of the two clubs, which astuteness in transfer activities contributed a big part of it, we are too far behind Arsenal to make any sensible comparison. Let's hope we can narrow the gulf sometime after Arsene Wenger retires.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Just hope LFC respect the player by having the clause of not allowing him to play against us in Europe.

    ReplyDelete
  46. They are building one hell of a team. I think with a top striker (not Giroud), I'd fancy them for a shot at the title.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm not too sure on making Hoffenheim our new Southampton, so let's leave Volland out for now ;)

    ReplyDelete
  48. B Rodgers should forget wasting £25M plus on C Benteke or £22M on Bacca

B Rodgers should spend £33M bringing these two strikers to the club this summer

T Walcott Of Arsenal for £16-£22M

K Gamiero Of Seville for £7-£11M

Gamiero is a top class striker, powerful, mobile with a bit of pace to him and is a very good finisher

T Walcott should be brought to club to play through the middle and given the chance to compete with D Sturridge , to be Liverpools Number 1 striker

These two strikers would bring 20-35 goals to club a season every season and as we are in Europa league also this season

Club can not rely on D Sturridge to ever play a whole season without being out injured at some time

Origi and Ings are both young talents who will get better over next few years but can they really handle the pressure of scoring important goals regularly at the highest level now ? Doubt it

So Gamiero(28) and T Walcott(26) should be brought to club this summer, both players would complement one another well if B Rodgers wanted to play 4 4 2

Both players would do well for the club

    ReplyDelete
  49. rotchie the red3:45 pm, June 27, 2015

walcott? another injury prone player....the only competition walcott and Sturridge will be competing in is who spends more time on the treatment table

    ReplyDelete
  50. Jaime, tell me what would your favourite line-up be? With Clyne close to joining Liverpool, we need another top class striker and perhaps a winger.

I say we sign Yarmenlenko from Dynamo Kiev or Carlos Bacca.

    What's you say?

    ------------Mignolet--------
    Clyne----Skrtel----Sakho--Moreno
    --------Can------------Hendo
    ---------------Milner---------------
    -----Firmino-----------Coutinho
    ------------Yarmenlenko------

Subs: Bogdan, Lovren, Lucas, Origi, Lallana, Markovic, Wisdom

    ReplyDelete
  51. How many goals did Walcott score this season?

We have had Borini, Balotelli, Lambert all season mostly fit and between them , they only managed 4 goals.

Yet Walcott was out injured quite a lot but scored 6 league goals and 1 Fa Cup goal in the Final. Yet most times he has played out wide as winger

T Walcott would score 10-25 goals a season playing through the middle, he is lightweight and weak. Like Sturridge, but there is no way both players would be injured at same time and when one would be injured other would prosper

T Walcott would score goals for any side in Premiership playing through the middle or out wide as he has pace, speed to burn, has very good movement and is a very good finisher

    ReplyDelete
  52. But we'll only get a decent fee for him if he goes out on loan and performs

    ReplyDelete
  53. rotchie the red4:31 pm, June 27, 2015

im not saying walcott cant score goals or hasnt pace etc or comparing the three so called strikers with him, he is by far a better player than them, it wasnt injury that kept them from playing, they wernt good enough.... im saying why spend money on a player that spends a lot of time out injured, and if memory serves me right Sturridge and walcott were injured at the same time the season just gone, so your argument there doesnt stand up.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Do you think Arsenal will break the bank for Gonzalo Higuain? If they manage to pull that off, I think they will be abe to quench their long-awaited thirst for the EPL title this coming season.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Still think they need a DM & maybe a centre back as well. Really good squad, but i just cant see Wenger winning another title, they normally start too slow

    ReplyDelete
  56. JK is sick? Why does he need a medical?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Fair point, but you know if we don't find a new donor Club soon we'll only be back to Soton offering £35million for J.Rod...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Had they let him go, he would have gone for nothing. Now, if he does well enough, we can sell him for a fee. If he does outstanding, we have a new GK

    ReplyDelete
  59. With Clyne coming soon (hopefully), I'd love it if we added Illarramendi and Lacazette

    ReplyDelete
  60. A minutes silence for Daniel Aggers dog- a horrible way to go

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thought maybe a good performance against us might have helped his cause in some ways but we really don't want any opposing keepers making heroes of themselves next season, or the oppo's woodwork for that matter, or any ridiculous refereeing shenanigans, just a nice comfortable cruise to the top of the league, no injuries - twenty point gap... title, open top bus, beers on Jamie. :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Luiz Adriano apparently available for less than 10M after he rejected a contract from UAE league. The fee agreed between the clubs was reportedly only 5.5M, and Shakhtar are desperate to sell so they don't lose him on free. No brainer to me...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Looks like Bacca is off to AC Milan.

Apparently we are now after Javier Hernández.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I have just read that myself Lucascu stating the same...£5.5m for Luiz Adriano would be the bargain of the century and in my opinion would be a no brainer to.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Plus another Brazilian with make it a happier environment for Coutinho and Firminho, which will hopefully translate on the pitch.

Something about Bacca says he'll be like Soldado at Spurs. In a ideal world Lacazette would be first choice, then Yamomelenko for me. But for the price and pedgree of Luiz Adriano, this must be a no brainier..

    ReplyDelete
  66. Just hope we don't throw everything into bring Benteke now.

    ReplyDelete
  67. If I win the Lottery tonight... I'll buy him and put him in my 5-a-side team. That's a steal

    ReplyDelete
  68. Apparently just personal terms, not fee with Sevilla. Could still hijack

    ReplyDelete
  69. If Liverpool sign Walcott, i would be very surprised to see both sturridge injured.

As i think that one will take the mantle of being the main man at club and also for National side.

We need goals( Walcott at 26, consistently scores goals in premiership and we could get him to club for under £25M)

Along with K Gamiero (28) Of Seville for£7-£12M

Walcott would guarantee the club goals and hopefully he will not be injury free this upcoming season

    ReplyDelete
  70. Precisely

    ReplyDelete
  71. The biggest problem with him playing in Scotland is none of the strikers could hit a barn door! He'd be as well in the stands for all the saves he'll have to make

    ReplyDelete
  72. Portugal destroyed Germany no sign of Illori though Can did play unfortunately I missed the game but reports say it was one sided

    ReplyDelete
  73. Adraino or even hernandez on a free, then splash the cash for for a holding midfielder.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Illarramendi I sincerely hope.. cmon rafa, do us another favor!

    ReplyDelete
  75. B Rodgers should bring in two top class strikers to club for £34M

T Walcott Of Arsenal for £16-£22M to replace F Borini and to compete with D Sturridge

K Gamiero Of Seville for £7-£11M to replace R Lambert

The owners and B Rodgers should ask Man City for W Bony and £30M so then they can have Sterling

And then £16-£22M should be spent on T Walcott

    ReplyDelete
  76. The moment the Bacca and Rondon links surfaced I feared they were merely an 'encouragement' to Villa.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yep, that kind of thing.

    ReplyDelete
  78. He has a natural surplus of bile that has been made worse by the signing of James Milner.

    ReplyDelete
  79. If so that will be his decision methinks. I reckon Madrid would love to shift him and leave no obstacle to De Gea's success.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Theycallmemrburt3:53 am, June 28, 2015

5ft 11inch tall hmmmmmm. We just wanted to have a 5ft 11 keeper on the books it seems. Ward must leap like a salmon with a jet pack because I've never seen a keeper of his stature dominate the area before.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I really hope we do not too. Looks like we have gone back to our old low balling tactics as reports suggest a £25m for Benteke and they want £32.5m.

If we pay what they want then it will just show that we have learned nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yes I saw that - horrible. She said the dog was scratching the door to get out but that they often do that anyway. Well, perhaps that should tell her something......

    ReplyDelete
  83. seems like he has other ideas and is on his way to serie A to AC Milan

    ReplyDelete
  84. Ghost of Suarez4:24 pm, June 28, 2015

Agree that Bacca's record looked good but only two seasons in a top level league and 29 in September....£21m was a bit rich and I think a bit too much of a gamble. Benteke has proven he can score in this league and has pace, movement as well as strength so think he would fit in as the spearhead. Would like us to play hardball and knock Villa down significantly though....he has two years left on contract so once we get closer to the window they will sweat a little as he will be worth a lot less next year.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Ghost of Suarez4:28 pm, June 28, 2015

Yarmolenko not really a striker mate and unproven at this level

    ReplyDelete
  86. Ghost of Suarez4:32 pm, June 28, 2015

Walcotts goals per game ratio is no good if he only plays 10 matches a season. No way FSG would sanction the money it would take to get him, and in this case I would agree with them. Gameiro? Didn't pull up any trees for Sevilla and not one I would seriously consider. We need to think bigger than that IMO

    ReplyDelete
  87. Ghost of Suarez4:33 pm, June 28, 2015

No chance of Berahino mate, his agent is Aidy Ward.....we wouldn't be going near him anytime soon

    ReplyDelete
  88. was reading the other day that clyne recently switched agents, wonder if that was anything to do with him wanting tcome here over the scum

    ReplyDelete
  89. Walcott would score goals for us no problem about that every season, playing through middle at least 15-30 goals.

K Gamiero would do a very good job for us, he is top class striker and two times better than R Lambert and has mobility and pace that Lambert does not

L Adriano is a top class striker, who club could bring to club for £2-£6M, who will guarantee club goals also. But will we try hard enough to get him in

    ReplyDelete
  90. Ghost of Suarez9:55 pm, June 28, 2015

I already said I don't doubt Walcott's ability but for you to say he would score 15-30 goals is a bit of a punt for me. He has only ever scored 14 league goals in one season, which was by far his best return. Even putting that aside your assessment ignores the fact that he has only scored 10 league goals in total for the last two seasons as he has been restricted to 27 league appearances in that time (a lot of those were as sub as well). It doesn't matter if he has the ability of Messi if he is on the treatment table most of the time. Worryingly these injuries centre round the same knee as well (three serious ACL ops in his career) that makes him an unrealistic target given that he is an English forward and would cost pretty penny even with one year left.

Kevin Gameiro got 8 in 27 this season....he is a decent player but we have Ings and Origi as the squad strikers and we need a top level striker.

Luis Adriano is 28 and has never played outside of Russia (in Europe). Classic transfer banana skin....no chance he would make the grade for me

    ReplyDelete
  91. Latest is that we are offering Borini and Lambert as makeweight for Benteke and confirms we moved away from Bacca deal to focus on this.

£20m plus offloading that deadwood might suit all parties....Villa can say they got the equivalent of the release fee in their eyes and we can say we utilised two unwanted assets to keep our cost down...good deal?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Walcott would score 15-30 goals a season playing through the MIDDLE as a striker for sure, he plays 75% of the time for Arsenal out wide.

Yet he still regularly scores goals for fun
Gamiero is a good striker, who is in same mould as Lambert just younger, mobile and has pace so he would be better option to have. ( 7- £11M)

Than spending £25M plus on C Benteke, I would get K Gamiero every time

Luiz Adriano is 28 like Gamiero but guarantees any club goals, with Coutinho, Firminho, Lallana and IBE within squad and attack he would score goals for fun.

Last season we were diabolical, worst start to season in over 30 years, end of season worst defeat for many years.

we ended 6th in the League

we did not make champions league

And you think we can attract a world class striker this summer?

NOT Happening, World class strikers want champions league football and huge wages.

We are not in Champions league and our owners don't want to pay world class players rates at our club, so the chances of our club getting a Benzema, Cavani, Ibramovich, J Martinez Type striker is very slim.

Season before last we had champions league football, yet we wasted £20M on R Lambert and M Balotelli, when we should have spent £28M bringing in W Bony and L Remy to club last summer

    ReplyDelete
  93. Arsene Wenger is not an idiot if walcotts best position was through the middle he would play there more often....and what about his injuries mate? Can't spend big on a player likec that until he has proved himself fit over a full season.

Why do you think that Luiz Adriano guarantees any team goals? Is this backed up by an extensive list of prolific strikers moving from Russia or Ukraine? Cos I can't think of any? Voronin, Rebrov....all came over here and struggled. Football like all sport is about levels...just because a player looks good in one league certainly doesn't mean he will in another. There is a reason why he is still playing there at 28....these players don't go undiscovered these days like they did before you could get video of any player in any major league

    ReplyDelete
  94. Hope not. He would be worse on crosses than Mignolet.

    ReplyDelete
  95. fair enough, ward is obviously a complete chief but its football, theres plenty about, obviously not knowing the ins and outs its hard to comment on something like that but part of me thinks why would we let having to interact with a money man like ward interfere with our transfer business?

    ReplyDelete
  96. I think there are degrees here, obviously there are difficult, and even unscrupulous agents that clubs deal with all the time (along with some decent ones I am sure) but coming out like that and publicly denigrating the club and someone like Carra...I would think I very unlikely. The last I heard he was banned from the club and the training ground and we have cancelled all contact through him so it wouldn't seem to be on the cards. Although this is football and if he was representing a really big player we wanted I am sure something would get sorted. Not for Saido Berahino though.....

    ReplyDelete
  97. any substance to this Higuain noise? if sterling's sale covers the business so far do we still have 70mil to spend? 15 on illaramendi, 5 on the swedish left back and 50 on higuain???

    ReplyDelete
  98. I say Bacca
