It's 'inevitable': Carra insists Liverpool hero will 'end up sacked' just like every other Madrid manager

Former Reds boss Rafa Benitez is seemingly on the verge of becoming the next manager of Real Madrid, but no matter what success he brings to the Bernabeu, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher insists that an inevitable fate awaits the Spaniard.

Benitez is currently in Madrid holding talks with Los Blancos, and on arrival in the Spanish capital, he told reporters:

"I am enthusiastic and happy, although there are things that still need to be discussed"

In his column for the Daily Mail today, Carra revealed that Benitez 'always wanted the Real Madrid job', and defended his managerial history, arguing that Benitez 'should be thought of more highly in the game'. He further added:

"What happened at Inter [sacked after 6 months] was the only blip on Benitez’s career. With Real Madrid, every manager ends up sacked, so the only issue for Benitez is how many trophies he can collect before the inevitable happens"

Benitez will arguably face more intense at Madrid that any other club he's managed, and as Carra notes, history suggests that he'll ultimately be sacked at some point, irrespective of the number of trophies Real win under Benitez's stewardship.

Standards are often unreasonably high at Madrid - just ask the following managers:

* Vicente Del Bosque: Sacked despite winning two league titles and two Champions League titles. #insanity.

* Fabio Capello: Scrapped after winning the league.

* Bernd Schuster: Dumped after winning the league and Spanish Cup.

* Juande Ramos: Sh*tcanned after just 6 months in charge.

* Manuel Pellegrini: Ditched after a single trophyless season.

* Jose Mourinho: Jettisoned after winning the league, Spanish Cup, and CDR.

* Carlo Ancelotti: Discarded after the Champions League, and two domestic cups.

* Rafa Benitez: Terminated after...?

Basically, Benitez is damned either way.

* If he fails to win the Champions League and/or La Liga in his first season, then history suggests he'll be a goner.

* If Benitez wins the league and/or the CL in his first season, then history suggests...he'll be a goner (!).

I still don't understand how moving to Madrid helps Benitez be closer to his family which is the reason he gave for bailing on Napoli. Spain is just as far away from Liverpool as Italy...

The only way that makes sense is if Benitez uproots his entire family from the UK (and rips his daughters away from their schools/friends), which, to me, seems incredibly selfish.

I hope Benitez does well at Madrid, though, and if Liverpool ever make it back into the Champions League, it'll be interesting to see the Reds face-off against the club's CL-winning boss.

  1. I think a managers career receives significant boost after a stint at Real Madrid irrespective of sacking. However, Rafa will need to win a league or CL in order to survive.

  2. I believe when Rafa first joined Liverpool it was his dream to manage Real Madrid and although i dont like them i wish Rafa every success and hope he sells some goodies to us cheap.

  3. That's just what I was thinking, maybe even a Enrique- Marcelo swap deal ;)

  4. Good for Rafa to get this job. He began his coaching career there.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Rafa does not play great attacking football and that means he needs to start getting good results from the start . LFC should go for Vietto = miles better prospect and value for money than Benteke

  6. Napoli had a terrible season so why do we not go for a player like Gonzalo Higuain? Proven goal scorer and infinitely better than Ings, Balotelli, Borini and Lambert put together.

  7. Wow.

Attracting top class players , like who?

Which Top class player would want to join a club that has only finished in the top 4 of their domestic league 4 times in the 10 years and have won only 1 major trophy in the last 10 years which was 10 years ago.

  8. Every manager who takes the Madrid job knows this. It's a fickle club, with fickle supporters and a fickle board. It's Franco's club. But it's also the chance to work with some of the best players in the world and unlimited funds against a top of the line salary. Plus it has no impact on your CV if you get sacked because it is expected. You manage Real Madrid for the experience, not to have a career.

  9. I wish Rafa well but his biggest problem is Barcelona. I can only see the three up front getting better. Ronaldo will keep up the goals vs Messi but Bale & Co won't be keeping up with LS & Neymar. Rafa may sort out the defence and give RM a chance.

  10. Because we have The Brodge and the Brodge knows best.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That is our biggest problem. No pull with Rodgers in charge! There are players out there that we can go and sign like Higuain who will also be playing Europa League football next season. Instead we have to settle for Ings and Milner.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I just do not see things working out for Rafa at Madrid. Far too many big egos to manage. The players rule the roost over there.

Rafa is either going to make a name for himself or damage his career...

  16. Why don't you bring out Milner's creative stats from center-midfield JK? Because they don't suit your argument. It seems like the only reason you don't want him at the club is because he's english which is really disturbing

  17. Hi Jamie,I'd just like to say that I've been reading your articles for a little while now, without commenting, and whilst I sometimes don't agree with some of the things you say I have to applaud you for this one.I couldn't agree more.it seems lfc target mediocrity these days whilst city,Chelsea, arsenal, utd and even spurs mop up the elite.my trust for Rodgers, especially in the transfer market is waning by the day and if something is not fixed soon, whether be manager or policy..we will never get back on champions league. 18. That's the nature of the beast that is 'Real Madrid' they take no prisoners. You would have to win the league and champions league every season to not be eaten by the beast. What a stark contrast from LFC and Rodgers he spends a fortune and achieves almost nothing and is still in a job 3 years later. The rumour mongering about the supposed players we are after never ceases to dishearten me Ings, Benteke, Milner, Clyne, Redmond etc.... Then you look at the players linked to 'The Dark Side' being The Manc's in Dani Alves, Lloris, Pogba, Schweinsteiger, Gundogan, Reus, Ramos, Bale, Ronaldo............. in 13/14 season Man Utd finished 7th without any champions league football and we finished 2nd the difference between us and them is they show ambition and aim higher and spend on proven quality for the best part in the transfer market and we just spend lots of money on just above average players and it's the message it sends to the world of football that becomes the problem it shows a lack of ambition as the best players want to play under the best managers and play along the best players after that it's the club. If Liverpool had a proven quality manager and players seen the right moves being made then top players would be willing to join and our reputation and history will be the final piece in attracting top players as players want that ambition, leadership and stability. Ambition on the boards behalf and having a proven winner as manager is vital to us succeeding and at the moment our ambitions are Rodgers as the manager and players like ings, Milner etc..People say no big player would come to Liverpool because we are longer a big club and thats total rubbish it's the percieved lack of ambition from the board and a manager without any geniune history of success that's the problem change both the lack of ambition and bring in a true leader at the club and everybody will see we are still a big club and capable of attracting top players but it's made 10x times harder with Rodgers in charge and a board that hasn't got a clue about football. We still are a huge club we are just being managed by fools

    ReplyDelete
  19. Historical fact? So the English teams that dominated Europe in the 70's and 80's were stuffed to the hilt with overseas players right???

    ReplyDelete
  20. I hope so #RodgersForRealMadrid

    ReplyDelete
  21. Has he announced his top targets? I have seen lots of press speculation but nothing directly from BR naming players.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You are not going to get any more transparency. If BR says transfer policy is not his final decision he authority can be questioned and rumours will increase that X and Y player were not his choice further dividing manager and players. Not going to happen

    ReplyDelete
  23. Stop exaggerating, Clyne is not 25m, Ings is not 12m (though apparently spurs have offered this???) and apparently we are not willing to stump up 32m for Benteke.

    You are getting sloppy

    ReplyDelete
  24. BR is a money wasting fool, he couldn't attract me to the club his targets are a joke, get rid of this clown before he turns LFC into a circus or Swansea

    ReplyDelete
  25. However long Benitez happens to be at Madrid, I atleast expect Rodgers to use Beni's LFC connection to help us acquire some of their talent....And Beni to sell LFC to any of those particular players, whom ever they maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If everyone stayed put for fear of failing there would be no progress anywhere

    ReplyDelete
  27. amen to that!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Not sure you can call Clyne average, he was one of the best RB this season in the 2nd best defense..... Nothing average abourt that...... Milner is £165k average, wish I was tha average.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If Sterling did say that then he should be sold no matter who is the manager.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think if Benitez win a sixtuple in his denut season, then maybe he is no going to be sacked;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Rafa knows he will be sacked in a year or two. So he will sell us cheap all the players he can hoping he will manage them when he comes back here after the sack. Hah...

    ReplyDelete
  32. He did sell us Sturridge and if he could give us players like Illaramendi on the cheap that would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I do not understand this deal. Rafa does not seem to be the Real Madrid type of manager. I mean, their fans are really crazy. They have the most expensive squad in the world with players any team would kill to have and they still complain about everything. Rafa's style was results even if it was not pretty and at Real, results are the least they want. They need performances each and every game and he cannot go to games playing for draws and all. It does not seem like the right match.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thid list of reported targets is indeed underwhelming but I don't share your views about Milner. I think Milner on a free transfer is a no-brainer and I'll personally be very happy if we get that deal over the line. He might not have the technical ability or the wow factor of a coutinho or a Silva but he's a solid, experienced player with tonnes of PL and some CL experience. He's also played relatively often for one of the best teams in the country and has won titles (and generally at the expense of players like Nasri etc).Plus, he's versatile and can cover a number of different positions if needs be. He actually has some of the best creative stats for a Man City player this season too - nothing to turn your nose up at. I've even seen some Man Utd fans disappointed that they've not tried to sign him and it's not as if they are short on cash are they? Don't get me wrong, I'm not massively excited about Milner; but I do think the transfer makes sense on a lot of levels. He's a good player, albeit not a great one. He also never really moans about anything so you would hope he may have a positive influence in the dressing room. Something, i feel, that is needed now with both Gerrard and Carragher gone (I mean think of losing the influence of those 2 and replacing it, for instance, with the #twitter king 'Balotelli' and the 'mercenary' Sterling - unthinkable).

The simple reality is that Liverpool cannot compete at the financial level of chelsea, city, united and probably even Arsenal now. Therefore, we need to be shrewd in the transfer market and try to stretch our resources as much as possible. Juventus are wonderful example of this (Pogba - pretty much free, Pirlo - Free, Tevez - £10M). What I'm really trying to say is that I think signing Milner is a great idea, but only on the condition that we can then spend more money on a top class stirker like Lacazette or Higuain and maybe more money on a top class right back etc. That, to me, would be very shrewd business. However, if come the end of the transfer window, our entire transfer business reads: Milner, Ings, Benteke, Clyne; then fuck Ian Ayre, fuck Rodgers, fuck the transfer committee and fuck FSG.

  35. cool story bro;)

  36. having your daughter to move back to your own country because you landed the biggest job there is in this line of work does not seem selfish to me at all.. despite all his affection for liverpool, the man wanted this the most since his youth team coaching days so why anyone would think that he would ditch madrid, despite all the obvious pitfalls that may await him in the future, for liverpool is beyond me..

    ReplyDelete
  37. If Milner comes he will come with an absolute massive contract and sign on fee, he knows this will be his last big contract so he'll probably request a 4 year deal.

I don't mind Milner coming in but NOT for the reported wages being branded about by the media.

Benteke? Clearly he does not suit our style, why would we sign him? Furthermore why would he want to come to us when I'm sure there are clubs with CL snooping around?

Clyne? Done really well this season and last, but so did Lambert, Lallana and Lovren so I don't know. We need a right back that's for sure and Clyne does seem like a good player but the price being quote is way too much.

Ings? For the reported £4-5M then he'll be a decent back up and should replace Lambert. But I can't see him as a first point of attach for us. Charlie Austin would be the preferred choice.

All in all, the signings being quoted are quite underwhelming but I try to remind myself that we did finish 6th place and previous to that we were in mediocrity for a few good seasons, the name and the history is not enough to pull players anymore so we need to accept our level at the moment. We are shopping in the same market as Tottenham and Southampton.

Now we need to be smart.

There are quite a few "free agents" out there we could get- Konoplyanka being one of them.

Oh I forgot Origi was coming back too...who knows he might hit the ground running...

    ReplyDelete
  38. In my mind its really quite simple, It was ALL Suarez, Suarez mad the club look good, he mad the other players play better and he mad BR look like an outstanding manager, Suarez was replaced with a whole lot of tripe and now the truth is revealing itself! With the type of players we are being linked with we should be able to compete for a top 6 place next season!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Try reading the article properly. I said 'on the international stage', and reference England. Plus, I said Premier League, not first division.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Real Madrid are a trigger happy club, like Chelsea.

I mean, there are not really many world class coaches out there and they just got rid of one, as if it was Ancelotti who bought the players.

There's: Guardiola, Mourinho, Wenger, Ancelotti, Conte, Allegri, Blanc, Enrique, LVG, Klopp, Simeone etc... I'm sure I've missed some.

Benitez is not a world class manager in my opinion, I want to see how he going to manage big egos like Ronaldo etc...

I can predict that he is going to fail miserably, Real want attacking football, not calculated defensive 1-0 football.

    All the best Rafa.

  41. good bye BR, u can't attract quality players. wish you well

    ReplyDelete
  42. Complete and utter nonsense. I've posted Milner's creative stats many times in separate articles (like here, for example: http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2015/03/milner-must-lower-wage-demands-15m-lfc-transfer-news.html), and his goals/assist ratio is poor (Last 5 years: Goal ever 11 apps | assist every 4 apps).

    ReplyDelete
  43. The FSG policy is 'cheap and easily controlled', manager and players.
Google 'boston red sox' and see if any headlines seem familiar... and that's a sport they're supposed to know something about..

    ReplyDelete
  44. Tranquillo Barnetta is older, has worse stats ,has won less than Milner but you were nowhere near as negative as this on the article about him. As I say, Milner is english and that simply isn't sexy enough.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Real want treble, let it be 60 1-0 games across the season.

    ReplyDelete
  46. This write-up sums up Liverpool woes in the past 3 seasons

    ReplyDelete
  47. Couldn't agree more spot on mate

    ReplyDelete
  48. Zonker, there are better players out there: Nolito from Celta Vigo, Bibras Natkho of CSKA, Carlos Tevez, Marco Veratti, Alexander Lacazette etc

    ReplyDelete
  49. What do people think of the article linkin to r us to cardiff keeper marshall? Fantastic keeper, wasted at ccfc, seems to be bizarely settled or attatched there but surely a chance to get him in with the state cardiff are in

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sorry, but that's nonsense. Barnetta and Milner have the same stats over their career: Goal/assist every 3.2 games. The difference is Barnetta will not be £100k+ a week, and will not be in the team on a regular basis.

Milner is not good enough to improve Liverpool. The club already has enough *first-team* midfielders who don't score enough, and a goal every 11 games is poor for someone who'll potentially be one of the club's highest earners.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think the players may have to deal with Rafas ego first.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Can we pull a little string with the incoming boss of Real Madrid and get some of their 'not so important' players in Karim Benzema, Asier Illarramendi and Sergio Ramos? Arrghhh...I just woke up from a nice afternoon nap.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez look like mega stars compared to the level of player we've been reduced to seriously targeting.

    ReplyDelete
  54. OK so rated for a price doesn't mean that is what we will spend. Hearing we are not going to meet Benteke's release either.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jaimie is Scotish. He hates English, It's just racism ;p

    ReplyDelete
  56. I would think that his family will remain where they are and this will be his last job outwith England. Madrid is always going to be a short term job and I'm sure the prospect of a ridiculous amount of money and a great chance to win some major trophies at a club he represented as a player, was just too good an opportunity to resist

    ReplyDelete
  57. James Milner created more chances 14/15 in the PL than Di Maria, Mata, Ramsey, Rooney, and Oscar.

Ramsey and Bale are also examples of British players who are excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Milner is ok to have, but for stability and reliability. Not as a match-winner, or that star quality that will lift other teammates.

It's not that Milner is a bad signing. It's that if Milner is the _height of ambition we're showing_ and if he's seen as Gerrard's replacement, then that's very disappointing from the club.

    ReplyDelete
  59. He wouldn't even get his old Swansea job back either since Gary Monk has just topped there best season ever which also partly suggests maybe what Rodgers actually did there wasn't that great after all

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thank you! I do wonder who Carlo Ancelotti, Jurgen Klopp, or Frank De Boer would buy and if any of them came to Liverpool will they do as well under the same circumstances that Rogers has to deal with by that I mean the committee and idea of buying young players for the future? Hopefully these young players will all come good before long and we improve on the season where we came second!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Micah Richards is a free agent?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Nice. Only thing I'd change is sign Andre Ayew on a free instead of Ings, as strong, left-footed competition and cover for our 10s and wingers. I'd keep Balo, too, because I have a soft spot but also because I still believe he can be a useful squad player. If we can't get Bacca then perhaps throwing a big wage at Vietto might be worth a try, although I'd prefer a more experienced striker, too.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You missed BR off your list ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  64. He'd better be!

    ReplyDelete
  65. He is good enough if you ask me.. We need some experience and physical presence there, if he is no good, Flanno is back in October, and Manquillo is probably staying too..

    ReplyDelete
  66. His goal scoring record across his entire career does not hit double digits.... as does his appearances...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Agreed. We need more than just him but he is not a bad signing at all.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Remember that in buying English players you fall prey to Woy Hodgson's dangerous influence...just ask Sturridge. My advice is while Woy is about do not buy English.

    ReplyDelete
  69. My dear, you dont expect to win trophies when you keep signing young talent with potential without a good mix with experienced and proven players. You might as well wait for a decade to compete at the top. I have always argued that LFC should sign experienced professionals whilst going to the academy to pick potentials for development. The top clubs would concentrate on seasoned finishers and we will be languishing at the mid-table with young boys whom we would wait for to come good. That is a poor strategy. Please the board should be advised to go for quality at the expense of quantity. The academy can give us future talents.

    ReplyDelete
  70. At least getting sacked from Madrid is not the same as getting sacked from other clubs. When you get sacked from Madrid, it usually says a LOT more about Madrid than the manager himself. Even Fergie would have been sacked from Madrid if he went there. It's like Perez wants to find the *perfect* manager that will win him trophies every single season without fail, but the f***ing idiot doesn't realize that probably won't happen.

In terms of the following the Spanish league, I used to be predominately a Madrid fan, but not anymore. It's an absolute circus club. The administration is disgracefully imbecilic, and the fans are petty, impatient, bratty, downright ungrateful gits who take everything for granted.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Del Bosque was sacked because the football wasn't entertaining enough. A football club? More like a comedy club.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I agree. Question is will we be able to get him for closer to 20m and what will his wage demands be like.

I can't imagine us meeting his buyout clause which is closer to 30m.

Higuain would fit in well here.

    ReplyDelete
  73. This is Benitez bucket list job so I wish him all the best. I do feel that he would want to get one up on Jose by winning the CL. A slight advantage for Rafa is that this will be the first job he has taken after Mourinho where he is isn't treated like a god. The key for him doing well will be his man management skills which he isn't known for. This appointment will be good news for Bale if anyone can get him back to his best form then it will be Rafa.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I have said before, Milner would not be worth hemorrhaging the wage bill and is not the player we need. Fully agree, he will not improve us.

DM is a much bigger priority so logic would be to try attract one and offer the wages Milner would be on.

    ReplyDelete
  75. If we are planning on offering Milner £100k plus a week then signing Higuain should not be an issue.

There is no point in paying out signing on fees plus agent fees for freebies i.e. Milner and Ings plus wages when we will be saddled with more players who just will not improve us.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I am not sure if I would put some of the coaches you mentioned in the "world class" category. Like I am not sure how can you put Wenger (great coach) no results in Europe or PL, or Enrique (maybe a one season wonder), etc.

Maybe if you define the criteria based on which you consider a manager to be world class, then we can reach a consensus as to which manager is world class.

    ReplyDelete
  77. The "sad" question is: Can you see him being in the world class category one day?

    ReplyDelete
  78. You're right, maybe world class is a loose term to refer to some of them.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Clyne,Benteke, Milner,Ings is what I read..... I think Clyne is ok as is benteke. I just think that there are 4-5 quality targets born in latin america or play in germany, holland, france where the relative prices may be better. BR has said he rune the selection committee and look at his record. If I'm FSG I would play a much stronger role because its my money and the managers record on talent, apart from Can so far have accomplished nothing except a great goal from moreno in week 1 or 2......For 100m you would expect tons better than that right??? Hope you are well. Has FSG called you about joining the selection committee? I recommended you and Twistadee.....thaey have yet to reply... They must be busy trying to right the Boston Red Sox ship....

Real Madrid is one of the most despicable clubs in world football.
Shady deals with Madrid's city council, selling their soul for a few Arab dollars etc. etc.
They have great fans though. They also have and show massive respect for our beloved club.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Welcome Sir, I'll show you around the ropes...

    ReplyDelete
  82. I feel the same way. It's like they think they are better than everyone else, I mean their TV deal (and Barcelona) is disgraceful!

They are a very Hollywood type of club. At least Barcelona have an amazing academy and have several players in the 1st team from the academy.

But at the end of the day, the football on the match is what matters and they've assembled an amazing team.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Me too. I can't really imagine him buying good or top players. I can't really trust him with money. I don't really buy the its the TC's fault. For me he should say NO, because its always his ass on the line if the results are bad (Not the players, though they are disappointing to say the least), so he might as well try his best to do things his way. At least he will not have any regrets when he gets fired. I can't really see him motivate his players to give the extra push that will get them through the last hurdle. That is why I believe he needs to go sooner or later, and this season is the best time with a few good managers available for free. In any case, I will completely support him if he stays as manager next season.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Ayew is a good player, so I wouldn't be against that as such, I'm just not sure where he'd fit into the squad. Vietto is also a good player at a good price, but he's likely to go to Atlético.

    ReplyDelete
  85. They all get fired after a few seasons there, I give him 2, maybe 3 years max. At least he can now check it off his bucket list before he comes back to LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Clueless pal. Do you actually know what football is ?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yeah. Depart sounds good to me. And take The Lip with them.

    ReplyDelete
  88. It's not really an apples to apples comparison though...

Getting Milner will cost significantly less than getting Higuain... both in fees and wages.

But I understand your overall point.

While Higuain would cost more, he would also potentially provide more value.

    ReplyDelete
  89. FSG wake up & stop paying double for absolute sh#te.. Then baulking at a bargain price for proper talent...
Get some real players in... Here is what a squad brimming with youth, potential and most importantly the requisite skills/ability/desire/determination would look like, players willing to work hard & succeed...

    Alexandre Lacazette
    Paulo Dybala
    Luciano Vietta

    Asier Illaramhendi
    Mateo Kovacic
    Ross Barkley
    Mario Suarez
    Max Meyer
    Axel Witsel

    Andre Ayew
    Julian Draxler
    Heung Min Son
    Hakan Calhanoglu
    Kevin DeBruyne
    Iker Muniain
    Lucas Moura

    Inigo Martinez
    Simon Kjaer
    Stephan De Vrij
    Kyriakos Papodopolous
    Fabian Schar
    Ricardo Rodriguez
    Mateo Di Sciglio

    Andre Der Stegen

No Messi.. Ronaldo, Pogba, James Rodriguez, Marcos Reus, Phillip Lahm etc coz no realistic chance of them ever coming to LFC.. But we could get a couple of those listed, at least

    ReplyDelete
  90. Nolito- another Aspas.
Carlos Tevez- decent shout but didn't he hate living in England.
    Marco Veratti- absolutely no chance.
    Alexandre Lacazette- absolutely no chance.
So the reality is no there aren't many better players out there at the moment who will come to LFC. Sad but true.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I have. I stuck £100 on Klopp at 6/4 with Paddy Power last week to be our manager In August

    ReplyDelete
  92. Nolito is not another Aspas. Your comment shows that you have not watched him and u absolutely dont know him. He dribbles more than Coutinho and he is a better finisher than Sterling and Coutinho combined.

  93. Of the players you have listed the only players who we stand any chance at all of getting (still mostly very unlikely) are the following...

    Mateo Kovacic
    Andre Ayew
    Heung Min Son
    Simon Kjaer
    Stephan De Vrij
    Kryiakos Papodopolous

That is it. The rest of those players will simply not join LFC at the moment. Players like Lacazette, Dybala, Vietto, Illaramendi, Draxler, Lucas, Ter Stegen could all more or less have choice of any club in the world... why on earth do you think they would choose LFC?!?

  94. My point being he won't be suited to the BPL. Not saying he isn't talented but he would still be a massive punt.

    ReplyDelete
  95. He is RB, why we need goals on that position?

    ReplyDelete
  96. On another note it seems BR has kept his job after the meeting with FSG today and they have set next seasons target...finish as far below last seasons 6th place as possible. Game on.

  97. Agreed on everything, but ''great fans''?

  98. Fine, then if we don't need goals Flanagan is a much better RB defensively,.. so either way Richards is just not worth taking the risk

  99. I am well ta and have been talking to FSG for some time. I told them that Balotelli and Lambert were well worth getting and now I like the look of Ings and Milner and possibly Clyne but not Benteke. So on that basis they should get Benteke.

  100. I suppose Rafa knows he's gonna get fired anyway. Managing RM is perhaps to make his CV look good, not many managers will get this opportunity. He still wants to come back to LFC one day, till then, good luck Rafa.

Jamie I must say you couldn't be more right in your analysis of BR, what you have stated above is as close as anyone will ever come to the truth except I would have to disagree with the Tiago Illori bit, I believe that he has not yet been given the opportunity to prove himself, at least no where near what some of the other players have had.
Well said and if this is where we are headed in this transfer market than I say we need to get BR out and De Boer in, or Klopp, especially with the likes of Lacazette, Vietto, Matinez, Vidal, Aynew, Konoplyanka and even Yaya Toure, all rumoured to be open to a move out there, my only problem with Benteke is I don't believe he warrants the price tag.
Milner is at his best or past it and this is still not good enough to take us to the next level, Ings is not enough consistent enough to for me.

Completely agree with you Jamie. We seem to be buying from the 2nd and 3rd tier of available players. Not only that but we never seem to close a deal quickly, often giving our rivals a chance to steal the player if they rate him. We will sign another 6 or 7 and have no net gain. Should be looking at players like higuain and lacazette but instead we've got ings and an under performing origi to look forward to. I blame Rodgers ability to attract players and the longer it continues the club really doesn't have the same attraction it used to.

  106. 70 million should buy us 2 new strikers. Quality not quantity. This is what we need. I do like what koeman has done at Southampton with liverpool funds. If this is all Rodgers and his scouts can come up with then he needs to seriously think about buying some rope and driving to the nearest bridge.

  107. People who blame Rodgersfor the signings ddon'tknow what they are on about. There are others who decide who to buy with rRodgershaving no say. This is because we have a policy of buying young try to make profit on them. Rodgers has to make do with this and try to get the best out of them. Of course It is partly Rodgers fault but last year most liverpool fans were calling him amazing. We have a bad season then these so called fans are blaming it on Rodgers. We needed a striker and the best the transfer commity came up with is ballo. I feel we need to give him another chance without the transfer commity and see what he can come up with. This will give him time to prove himself and if it doesn't work ever klopp or ancolotti will be free as they are taken a year or so out. I feel like every manager deserves time to build something look at Alex fergoson. He was in the same state as Rodgers. Imo people should be blaming the club for there poor lack of ambition E.g not wanting to makebig transfers and make big wages. They have the key to a sleeping giant in which they are not fussed about. They are only looking at the club to fund there baseball and will eventually move on when eenoughmoney has been made. Wow they are expanding the sstadium which of course will Bring in revenuefor the club but we are still 1000s of seats behind other clubs. Players like laccazate are not going to look at that and want a move. Players like this want to belong to a club that Iis ambitious and knows the club will make strides forwards. We will never be regular champions league holders with the owners in charge. Something has to change more the owners then the manager imo!

  108. If theyve got 70 mil to spend, they need to bring in 2 top goal scorers. Im not saying rodgers is shit. Im just saying if these r the players they r after then things dont look bright. And rodgers at the end of the day will get the blame regardless of whoever on the board has a say in transfers. The buck will stop with brendan. We have a decent side we just need goals!!

  109. Good list. Really good. Add Konoplyanka ;)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yeah, I believe Simeone gave him a debut at Racing Club. Frankly Ayew would initially be on the bench, but I see him as a sort of a super Milner, versatile and classy. Top cover from central midfield through false nine.

  111. sorry.. if it took you this long to figure out he was garbage then you need to take off the red tinted glasses. He's been garbage since the deay he was fired from reading... always will be a gutless loser...

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yes, he is building a team in his image. Moreno, Coutinho, Sterling, Joe Allen, Lallana, Borini are all midgets like Brendan. He has been bringing in smaller build players since he has arrived. Liverpool probably has the youngest and smallest sized players in the whole of the premier league. That explains why they are often out muscled by other teams.

    ReplyDelete
  113. yes Jamie you are so so correct. The players are suitable for Swansea or stoke standard and not for a huge club as Luverpool. BR will be lowering our standard by buying such players..
The owners have to tear apart the selection committee and make them accountable for poor buys. I really like your article hope someone from the top would be reading it. Should email your report to the owners.,What an excellent report.

  114. I'm sorry for your loss.

  115. Apparently Brendan is staying, which is (if possible) even more underwhelming than the current transfer rumours. Much have been said about the 10 million it would cost to get rid of Rodgers, surely the solution to that problem would be to flog off Allen at half price to cover the cost?

    ReplyDelete
  116. His all-round play is much better than people give him credit for too. A bit of a bottler, but definitely would be a great option for us.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Showed great potential when he was younger, but has been injured too often. If we could get him to take a cheaper deal/a tailored contract then it could be worth the risk as I'd like to see us sign two right-backs this summer. I still think a first-team one and Trippier is the way to go though.

  119. It's very simple for Benitez (and his family in Liverpool); Rafa knows that his current return to LFC is blocked by BR and FSG's insistence on him. He also knows that RM job will not be long lasting with or without success. However, RM is a considerable profile enhancer for any manager and with basically world's best player material at hand he will have the best tools to succeed in a short stint that is RM manager's position.

After some profile enhancement at RM Rafa projects that FSG's insistence on BR will ultimately twindle as it seems unlikely that he will be able to turn LFC back into international powerhouse. Also FSG's sunk costs on BR will erode over a few years as sum for buying out his contract diminishes every year. After the RM job Rafa will vigorously promote himself to LFC if they continue the path of failing to succeed and at this point Rafa will seem much more enticing option also for FSG.

Of course all of this is pure speculation, but I would not be surprised if Rafa would be doing this type of meticulous tactical calculation in his head. However, for this plan scenario to succeed, it is based upon two important assumptions:

    (1) BR must continue to underachieve with LFC in the following few years.
    (2) Rafa must survive his stint at RM relatively unscathed. Failing horrifically at RM can also hurt manager's career since if you cannot make world's best players play well, how good manager can you really be?
