'The Beast' to Anfield? £20m goal-machine responds to Liverpool rumours and confirms Champions League 'dream'

After months of speculation, Liverpool target Christian Benteke has responded to rumours linking him with a summer move to LFC, and based on his comments, it doesn't appear that a transfer to Anfield is very high the Belgian's agenda.

When specifically asked today about rumours linking him with Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal, Benteke - recently hailed as 'awesome' by Dietmar Hamann - told Sky Sports:

"It's good for confidence and I'm very pleased about that. My agent knows my ambition. I want to play in the Champions League. That’s a dream and my ambition"

Benteke is definitely on the outs at Villa, and his agent, Kismet Eris confirmed this today:

"He [Benteke] will not sign a new contract. He will do whatever is possible legally to leave Aston Villa. He wants to play for a higher team".

Well, if Benteke's 'dream' is to play Champions League football, then that immediately rules out Liverpool.

Of course, there's always a possibility that he could sign for the Reds with the hope of achieving that 'ambition' next year, but is Benteke willing to waste another year on something that's far from guaranteed?

Arsenal and Manchester United can offer Champions League football *now*, and both clubs have the financial means and managerial pull to leave Liverpool in the dust.

There is a smidgen of good news, though. According to the Liverpool Echo:

"Liverpool have made Benteke their top target this summer are expected to pursue a £20m deal for the striker".

If this is true, it means that Liverpool are unwilling to pay Benteke's inflated £32.5m release clause, which is a relief considering the gargantuan waste of transfer funds over the last three years.

Benteke - nicknamed 'The Beast' - is an effective Premier League striker, but he is not worth £32.5m, and paying that much for the Belgian is a massive gamble, and it's one that Rodgers cannot afford to take.

£20m is more like it, and if Liverpool somehow contrive to sign Benteke for that amount, it'll be good business (IMO).

The one advantage that Liverpool have is that Benteke is practically guaranteed regular first-team football at Andfield. Sturridge is endlessly injury prone, and Lambortelli won't get near the first team next season with the big Belgian on board.

Plus, there's the pull of Liverpool FC itself, and despite the club's detractors, that should not be underestimated, though I have no confidence in Ian Ayre's ability to sell the club to Benteke, to the extent that he'd reject Arsenal and Man United.

Ultimately, perhaps it's for the best? In a recent site poll, 58% of fans voted AGAINST signing Benteke, which suggests there's very little support for the deal anyway.

  1. It does not really matter we have Rodgers next yr!!

  2. The last time we signed Villa's best player (Downing), it didn't work out for us.

I'm afraid that history would be doomed to repeat itself if we buy Benteke.

A nice player for the right amount of money. But not for 32.5m. 20m is certainly more palatable, but I still have my doubts about him long term.

Perhaps it's my perception (and I could be incorrect), but I feel like his value is predicated on two good spurts (one per season), and if he's not hot, he's ice cold.

  3. Another year of bodgers ! His body language vs stoke waa of a man totally shell shocked , and out of his depth as well as the players not playing for him and downing down tools , if the man had an ounce of respect for the reds fans instead of his own high opinion of himself he should have offered to resign instead of passing the buck of saying i go if the owners want me to go , will this man attract top level players to liverpoolfc ? My worry is we sign the normal over hyped young players have a bad run of results as he clearly cannot get the balance right about attacking football and being solid and cmpact without the ball we will then sack bodgers in november-december and by that time klopp wont be available

  4. Villa rejected 20m from Spurs before Benteke extended his contract, Villa have said they don't want to sell so perhaps you'll have to up your cash more than you want to.

  5. Want vietto looks quality and tevez would be a fantastic signing for us, also matteo kovacic looks a gem at the right price

  6. How much did Carroll cost ?!

    ReplyDelete
  7. cunts, bin dipper, who do you think you are

    ReplyDelete
  8. That would offer the perfect balance imo. We have our "star" in Studge, a proven player who can guarantee goals (tevez), a slightly younger guy who will take over in a few years (vietto) and our project (Origi). We tried that with Studge, Lambert, Mario, and Borini, but I have a feeling Tevez and Vietto will do a bit better...

  9. For fudge sake what on earths going on at LFC I am baffled as to why they have kept Rodgers and are still pursing a square peg known as Benteke. I hope for the sake of the club Rodgers can get it right as it looks like he's still in charge of LFC. Well one thing I will say no doubt we are going to find out...I hope I am wrong about Rodgers and I'll gladly eat humble pie if I am as I just want the best for our wonderful club and if Rodgers delivers then I'll eat the whole pie.

  10. agreed tevez is a bit like Suarez in the way he works and hounds the defence he's not as prolific but a striker in a similar mold, vietto looks a bit like augero and could be class, origi I hope he is the player we all want him to be

  11. Sometimes wonder whether this is a Liverpool supporters site as there is a constant drone of whining and moaning about Brendan. The fact is he is still the manager for the foreseeable future ( this will be his final shout to prove he is the man to take us forward). So let's all get a grip on the reality of the situation and get behind the manager, instead of aimlessly complaining all the time and let's hope there are better days ahead for LFC in the coming season.

  13. To be fair, Liverpool are shit. Mid table finish at best next year, Benteke won't want that.

  17. You want us to support this clown after the season he's put us through, get real fella. Every true liverpool supporter wanted this clown sacked and fsg can go with him. Fsg don't give a shit about our football club their only it for money. Ffs i wish supporters like you would open you're eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You're not wrong. Benteke, Sterling, Young, Wilshire (imo), Delph…the list go on of players who's stats and contribution is inflated by the media into these ridiculous fees. I was fooled with Carroll and since I've been very careful in watching how consistent players play as well as their on field ability,. What that last bit means is how much on a players pure class contributes to his performance, Benteke for example, was given too much room by defenders his first season: barely contesting balls in the air, letting him control and turn, letting him hold up the ball and bring others into the game which benefited those around him considerably who in turn returned the favor. He's not a bad player but this season defenders knew they had to be more physical with him and where top players like Drogba relished that, Benteke dwindled and had a pretty bad season till the very end. Again, good player, but not what we need in the formation that BR plays and I haven't seen anything from him at Villa that justifies him being paid world class wages let alone us paying Villa that kind of money

    ReplyDelete
  19. Gob smacked how stupid FSG are to put it lightly, next season Rodgers needs to hit the ground running as the fans will turn on him and FSG like a pack of wild dogs in no time. It seems to be a case of a board that doesn't listen to the ones that matter the most us fans. It's like the board are deaf to the people who keep the club alive through thick and thin, buying all the shirts and scarfs and paying top dollar for the seats at matches the fans know more about football than the majority of the idiots running our club and the underwhelming signings made season in season out are made even when every supporter says 'NO' they go and do it anyway! What makes them right and 100's of thousands of devoted football fans wrong? There is a distinct ignorance and arrogance to the whole thing! Teams win trophies signing top players and appointing top managers it's not rocket science! It's a formula that has worked since the game began and no matter how hard they try to create a new formula it will always come back to that old formula that has made us, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Muncih, The Manc's so succesful and that just signings young unproven talent alone won't work you also need that quality and experience. The Manc's had youth when they lifted the prem but they also had proven experienced players with the team like Bruce, Pallister, McLair, Bryan Robson and even bought in these players over time in the likes of Henrik Llarson, Cantona, Van Persie, Van Nistelrooy, Blanc etc......Arsenal had Adams, Keown, Seaman, Wright already in the team...Blackburn under King Kenny had Flowers, Hendry, Sherwood, Newell etc...So my point being is experience and quality players are essential ingredients they cost more but the impact they give takes you that bit closer to winning trophies....Gary McAllister is the perfect example for us and the board need to recognise it. Blackburn signed Kenny a proven winner, the manc said old rednose Fergie, Arsenal signed Wenger and all of these had previous success in England or abroad and that is what made them proven Rodgers has done nothing! He should never have been given the job in the first place and the fact he got the job still remains a mystery 3 years and now a new mystery is how he is still in a job...I hope I am eating humble pie at the end of the season but me like most fans are not holding out for slice of that pie.

    ReplyDelete
  20. You must be a supporter with foresight as you were probably calling BR a clown in the 13/14 season! What evidence do you have that FSG are only in it for the money?

  21. Me to mate this time! Ian lowballs that much he needs better fitting shorts and everyone but him can see his 'talking bollocks'

    ReplyDelete
  22. Seems to me like Ings is a slightly upgraded Borini and Benteke a slightly upgraded Balotelli. Neither really the kind of all action forward we need IMO.
I've said it before but apparently Atletico want to sell Mandzukic, he would be a much better fit for us IMO

    ReplyDelete
  23. the beast to anfield?? CONFIRMS HIS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DREAM. pretty much says it all in the title. why would it be you lot? CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

  25. LFC has the 5th biggest wage bill in the entire EPL so we are not going to finish anything lower than 7th in the table, legitimately.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Rodgers confirms major Marquee signing from Argos for £545.99 and ended up paying £645.99 result!!!, Ian Ayre tried his lowball technique but the fella who took his order didn't appreciate being Tea Bagged or that Brendan kept talking b*llocks...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Benteke, Ings and Origi, - all either are or could be coming - they are a lot more mobile and much less 'lightweight' than what we have now....

...imagine Benteke getting on the end of coutinho's cute through balls between defenders or over them with Benteke smashing his weight through and past them, with ings he is an absolute upgrade on borini at and on every level......
....Origi was at the world cup so hopefully can deal with the pressure of LFC which so many recent buys have not dealt well with...esp seeing as we have very good players in front of him who will have adapted after their one or two seasons here (Lallana, etc)...
..certainly not for 32 mill but what is the market right now? at least fsg are willing to pay out...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Being optimistic is fine by me if people want to believe Rodgers is going to do it then great! When the day comes when I finally see a Unicorn fart a rainbow maybe then I'll believe in miracles

  29. why are we always paying massive money for run of the mill swansea town/city types of players , f---ing joke the way our clubs has gone since 2005 squad , antway im looking forward to supports singing rogers out this coming season hope we lose first 3 home games so the crowd get up like they did for hicks n gillet situation , then hope the fsg get out sell to oil people or a russion billionair , we need proper moneymen in our club to buy world class

  30. Benteke has the first touch of a rapist.

He wouldn't 'get' Coutinho, or his passes.

Best hope would be Migs, Lovren, etc booting it long.

Surely people haven't forgot how inffective Carrol was already?

  33. Where is Logan when you need to find out about who next seasons manager is.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You probably wouldn't want to know what he's doing. I'm pretty pissed off though. My understanding is that Rodgers does have an ultimatum to improve the on field performance, and if he doesn't then he could be gone by January. However, I really doubt an extra 6 months will prove anything different, and options for a new manager won't be as good in January. I can only have small hope that Ancelotti is ready from his break by the time January comes around. Same for Klopp if he's still unemployed.

  35. We bought a donkey for £35m, what is £32.5m for another beast.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Agree, that statement is not entirely fair, just factual.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Not much, the donkey cost us £35m.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wait until the transfer window is over you only think your cranky now.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 20 mil for Benteke is not a good deal. If it was 5-10 mil then fine because that is what he is worth and should be worth. In no other league, will an average player from a constantly relegation threatened side be sold for 20 mil. It just does not happen and it will represent poor business if it does.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I craved B R to sign him for £15 million last year BUT at £30 million VILLA ARE HAVING A LAUGH -Go check out the young South American strikers Falcoa at £20 would be interesting

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's because 'fans' keep buying shirts and scarves and paying top dollar for seats that FSG can ignore what they are feeling. I read a post elsewhere where a mug, sorry, of course I meant 'fan' was saying how he was disappointed Rodgers was being kept on but he was a true fan so would back him because he was Liverpool manager. While people keep paying up, no matter what , then they wil have little or no say. It's only when they start to vote with their feet (or wallets) that owners will take notice.

  45. Carra just suggested that Milner will come in and get captaincy. *waits patiently for JK's next article*

    ReplyDelete
  46. nick1811. I seriously can't wait for next season to end. We're going to go nowhere under this guy. I've seen through him, and now it seems the players have too.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I hope Milner signs just so I can read JK's funny reaction. I'll be with him on the overall pessimism boat though...

    ReplyDelete
  48. I really hope we don't sign Benteke, he does not suit our style of play, haven't we learned nothing at all? Also for the reported £32.5M I would not even consider him.

Seems like Milner is coming in for a reported 150K a week...what in the world are we smoking? In what world is he worth that. Thing is I think he'll do well enough for us, but he will never be worth 150K a week.

I don't mind him coming in as I actually think he will add balance to the team and complement Henderson but this is Joe Cole all over again, except Joe Cole was already washed out.

Apparently we've made a bid for Cheryshev (on loan from Real Madrid at Villareal), he scored 7 goals this season, a tidy player but very limited experience at the top, not worth the 15-20M Euros being brander about.

Now onto BR...I will offer him my full support again since he is staying, but he needs to step up. I hope him and FSG managed to scrap this "buy them young" policy and mix experience with youth.

He needs to one down on the praise, find the right tactic, play players in their natural position, buy smartly and keep it humble, he has shot himself in the foot numerous of time.

Saying that if he does poorly I'm sure he'll get the sack by December and Klopp will come in.

Come on Brendan, shows us what you've learned, oh and sell Sterling!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sterlings gone i dont reckon Benteke will be on our books next season and theres no need to support Brendan, because if you wanted him out stick to your guns.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I hope we sell him. I'm a forgiver so I i'll be glad if knuckled down, worked hard and apologized for the interview.

    ReplyDelete
  51. You can expect anything now. Just not much good. I refuse to buy anymore merchandise until Rodgers and this transfer committee are gone. I refuse to sponsor the squandering of hundreds of millions on total and utter rubbish.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Just dont want the Rodgers out brigade suddenly become fans just because he has been kept on it wreaks of fickledom.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I mean I wanted him to be replaced in all honesty, and since Klopp and Ancelotti seemed available they would be perfect choices.

Now that he is staying of course I'm going to offer my support, but does not mean I'm not going to criticize him.

We all have to be balanced.

    ReplyDelete
  54. He is so lucky to be there it's unbelievable.

Any other club would have flicked him. but FSG are indecisive ditherers who have set him up to fail even more anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  55. So anyone who thinks rodgers is not the man to lead Liverpool and wants a top manager to replace him should not support lfc anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jesus Nick.
Let's just have a go at being positive for the season going forward hey? I really can't be arsed with all the moaning. It's not ideal but it is what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Milner is a good player.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well I want him gone but I wouldn't consider myself fickle. .

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am so happy for you.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am not to enamered by the Benteke type player coming to LFC while Brendan is boss... How much money do they need to spend before they realise what I and others can already see, His style doesn't fit into Brendan way of doing things, same with Jackson martinez.... Bit if we have to persist with this, then I would argue Mandzukic is far better value, considering his experience at one of the best clubs in football, and then overall level he has played at for the past 10 years.

    ReplyDelete
  61. True! As I said in the comment above mate if Rodgers and the board do not hit the ground running the fans will turn on the board and Rodgers like wild dogs if we are not competing and in the mix Christmas let alone the end of the season...It's last chance saloon for him and if he wins games and keeps doing so then the dogs will be kept at bay. Nobody want's to boo there own team before they've even kick a ball so that's why I will be backing not so much him but LFC so in turn I guess Rodgers as well, the fans turned on Hodgson and Hicks & Gillet and demonstrated, they have demonstrated over ticket prices, Liverpool fans will vote with their feet and wallets when the time is right believe you me.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Martinez plays a completely different style to Benteke. While he may look like your typical target man he is actually very quick off the mark and has a great finish. (Which he also proved in the CL for the past few years) He is a bit like Sturridge in his style of play, before the injury, always wanting to get in behind the defence and provide that option to our midfielders.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You might aswell go the whole hog and stop talking about LFC here aswell then, seeing as this is a supporters site..... Your refusal to buy the merchandise is as good as saying you withdraw your support.... Not only is this a childish response to Rodgers keeping his job, it also says alot about you as a fan...

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thanks. That means a lot. .

    ReplyDelete
  65. Not at the moment the last time a miracle happened and I witnessed such an event as the Liver Bird farting a rainbow over the Mersey was when we won the Champions League ..Sadly though our Liver Bird well...he's been feeling a little down lately after that 6-1 drubbing and crap season and his ability to fart Rainbows has turned into clouds....'At the end of the storm, there's a golden sky, and the sweet silver song of the lark' one day Liver Bird will fart that rainbow once more..Amen..Praise be!

    ReplyDelete
  66. FF'S I wish "supporters" like you claiming to be true supporters, would realise that this isn't a fair weather sport, and we have to endevor to support through the tough times when support doesn't come easy, and not when we are beating Arsenal 5-1.... That is what true supporters do... We support LFC, and Brendan is just a tiny part of LFC...

    ReplyDelete
  67. If he only wants to go to a champions league team this would be a blessing in disguise. Decent player in the right team but he will never ever suit a BR team. I am absolutely mystified as to why BR thinks he would be a good signing for us if indeed he does really want him. The only reason I can possibly think of is he always scores against us other than that a totally bizarre transfer if I ever saw one. Not worth a penny over £20 million either.

    ReplyDelete
  68. You are most probably right but if that is indeed correct then it just goes to show the completely illogical set up we have at the moment re: transfers. How on earth can you splash out £20-30 million on a player that so blatantly won't suit the managers style of play. Shambles. Unless of course this is there way of saying BR has to adapt his style to the signings they make.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Nicolas Chamberlain10:53 am, June 03, 2015

Mandzukic is more similar to Benteke than Jackson Martinez.
Strong in the air but not very mobile and without an individual action. I would prefer Jackson Martinez over those two, but I really would love it if we could sign Vietto.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Benteke only scores goals for Villa when they play hoofball and he's the one focal point. That's not how we play.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yes, he's the Belgian Andrew Carroll

    ReplyDelete
  72. If scoring 12 goals in his FIRST domestic Spanish season is one of the best around then there couldn't of been many goals scored by strikers last season . Depay scored more from midfield', Lacazette scored more as did jackson Martinez, messi, Bacca , Ronaldo, Saurez , Neymar, Austin, Kane, ageuro , Costa,Berahino, Benteke,Sanchez, Giroud , Hazard, Aduriz , Bueno, greizman,Benzema, jonathas, militia, gareth bale, james Rodriguez ,Meier ,robben, lewandowski , Aubameyang, dost, di santo, Muller, Jonas, Lima, matias, Toni, Icardi, tevez, higuain, menez, gabbiadini, beradi, Kline, du Natale, dybala, qaugliarella and more so I wouldn't exactly say he's statistacslly one of the best strikers last season myself personally . vietti did score 8 goals in Europe but I'm not sure what teams he scored those against . Nothing special if you ask me

    ReplyDelete
  73. I can't be arsed listening and reading moaning either. I understand your frustration but credit where it is due just like stick. The last two seasons have been very different and so a definite idea of a chancer seems to strong. Let's see if the structure around changes and how he does. We start the season the same and I'll join, but for now we may as well get behind the club as a whole. I understand it may still be raw for you but think you should have been paying attention to word coming from the club for the last couple of weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Im afraid there is no certainty that "this will be his final shout to prove he is the man to take us forward" as you claim. He is here to stay. FSG are just as clueless as BR himself about the best way forward for Liverpool and they are afraid of managers like Klopp, Rafa who would target the cream of gloabl football if given half the resources availed to brendan rogers and who wouldnt say yes to having milner, ings, benteke as "priority" targets.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yes, the point being, it ain't about BR..

    ReplyDelete
  76. He is better than Benteke, Lambert, Aspas and the key is he is GETTABLE when compared to Lacazette, Dybala

    ReplyDelete
  77. Point on Mandzukic is his fee... but I too would love someone of Vietto's style.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I don't listen to word from the club, they say what they want you to hear. That's why I don't read the official website anymore.

If you can't be arsed reading moaning then I don't know why you come here, because half of JK's articles *are* moaning about something, whether it be about Raheem Sterling or Liverpool in the transfer market.

The only reason you have a problem with this moaning is because you seem to be still somewhat conned by the Brodge. If you were totally for his sacking then I doubt you'd have a problem with moaning, but no, it just doesn't fit your agenda at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Still our record signing. Makes me cringe

    ReplyDelete
  80. Haha the Lambortelli thnigy never gets old :-)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Truth is o come on here much less now. Agenda? Bodge? Seriously, what have you done with our Nick?
I was I'm favour of an upgrade. Excited by the idea in fact. But it hasn't happened. I suggest you read the tomkins times new article. He is seemingly a voice of reason in these daft times.
As for sources coming from the club, there are plenty hood journos with some inside info. The club have said he was safe for a while. That doesn't seem like what the majority want to hear.
I haven't been conned by Rodgers I can just see individual mistakes as just that. I don't have to make sweeping statements, don't havAndy Burnham gives his first campaign speech at Ernst & Young, which is up to its neck in tax avoidance. Not a great look.e to pretend to have answers. I believe there are a myriad of complicated issues that some are unwilling or unable to consider. I have no agenda other than hoping our fans stop acting like hysterically whiney babies.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Dear Rafa, I hope you succeed where Mourinho and Ancelloti failed. Having said that, Del Bosque has extraordinary success and still failed!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I can only see a sad ending to his tenure.

    ReplyDelete
  84. What do you mean by statistically Jaimie because we can make up a stat about anything to make s player look good or bad ? Do you mean scoring the most goals in the domestic league because that's what we ( Liverpool )need . I made a list of just some of the top players from the better European leagues that have all scored more than Vietto this season just in there domestic leagues alone.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Sadly, me 2. I just hope he punches above his weight and restore his legacy.

    ReplyDelete
  86. So still no news on the reasons why FSG have 'supposedly' decided to stick with Rodgers especially after one of our most disastrous seasons in many years. Sacking Hodgson for being out of his depth and Kenny who won a trophy and they are just going to keep quiet on why they have 'allowed' Rodgers to stay on, anyone find that a bit strange? The open letter from John W Henry 3 years ago "We will build and grow from within, buy prudently and cleverly and never again waste resources on inflated transfer fees and unrealistic wages." What happened last summer then? Let's wait and see what happens...

"West Ham are to hold talks with Sevilla manager Unai Emery in the next 48 hours"

Very good manager and would be mind boggling if they sign him up.

    ReplyDelete
  87. If I'm honest I think it's extremely doubtfull we will bring in the quality required to reach a top 4 spot next season and in fact we won't for as long as we have this transfer team up Rodgers/ transfer committee if you ask me

    ReplyDelete
  88. Not sure you could say Ancelloti and Mourinho failed.

    ReplyDelete
  89. The Owners need to sack and ship out the abysmal, comical and shambolic transfer committee.
These Four strikers need to be shipped out of club this summer:
F Borini should be sold for £7-£12M
I Aspas should be sold for £5-£8M
R Lambert should be sold for £4-£6M
M Balotelli should be sold for £12-£18M
And these three strikers below along with D Origi should replace the strikers above:
1: L Vietto Of Villareal ( First choice and number 1 priority forward) for £14-£17M to replace F Borini
    2: P Aubamayeng Of B Dortmund for £12M-£16M to replace I Aspas
3: K Gamiero Of Seville for £8-£12M to replace R Lambert and M Balotelli
Our club struggled to create and score goals last season, so the four strikers on clubs books we desperately need to ship out and replace them with the 3 top class mobile quality strikers who will score goals for side this season in all competitions we are participating in
If those 3 strikers above are signed :
Our club would have 4 descent strikers at our disposal as think Origi will need two seasons out before impressing in Premiership.
Where Arsenal had Giroud. Walcott and Welbeck
Chelsea had Costa, Drogba and Remy
Man City had Aguero, Bony, Dzeko and Jovetic
Man United had Falcao, Rooney and Van Persie
We had Injury ridden Sturridge, Balotelli, Borini and Lambert
Where with the three strikers above brought to club this summer we could have:
Aubamayeng, Gamiero, Sturridge and Vietto as our four main strikers for this season and many seasons beyond

  90. I wrote a ridiculously long reply that has not come through. Can't be bothered with it again. I don't appreciate the agenda nonsense though. Just read the tomkins times newest Article on the subject. Sums it up nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Oh I see, this site is just provided to give us a platform for moaning. Not discussing things, good bad and indifferent, debating relevant topics, or benefitting from information ...
Just a platform for you to moan.
    My mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I don't hold that view, but Perez begs to differ.

    ReplyDelete
  93. But you said.......

    ReplyDelete
  94. It's a very bizarre situation. By all the information I've heard (which you know where to look for), FSG are not even remotely confident in BR. They have rather just been really indecisive about the whole issue. If they really wanted to help BR, then they'd back him.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Who is to blame??

    ReplyDelete
  96. Try telling Roy or Kenny that they're indecisive ditherers....

    ReplyDelete
  97. You love your mom so much won't complain when she do wrong? Let's be honest and stop pretending

    ReplyDelete
  98. Exactly! Come out and either back him or sack him. They have not done anything as yet...

    ReplyDelete
  99. Where have you been?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Doesn't make sense. Why keep him if you essentially don't want him? Money wasn't an issue. Other managers had nothing to do with it either.

    ReplyDelete
  101. By Perez's standards, every manager is bound to 'fail' at Madrid. Every manager's tenure there ends in 'failure', unless they decide to quit before they're sacked, like Mourinho.

    ReplyDelete
  102. In this instance, they are.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Also read a comment that they might want him to resign which could mean they have put forward a plan which Rodgers has not agreed to or needs to go think about? My way or the highway. If talks were so "positive" then Rodgers would be having verbal diarrhea by now on why the owners have given him the green light.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I like to believe Mourinho was sacked too.

    ReplyDelete
  105. In fact, it was open to discussion, but Jay decided to put on his comment thread police hat and have a whinge about it, just because it had one moaning line added for a bit of dramatic effect for humour's sake. But it seems you've let him do your thinking for you.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Disagree. The two best options want a rest- ,better to wait for them than to appoint someone else just to get rid of Rodgers

    ReplyDelete
  107. Who wrote that comment? In the banter or 'others' section?

    ReplyDelete
  108. I totally dis agree. He's got one of the best tackles per game ratios in the world. U can check it yourself on whoscored.com. We are more balanced everytym he plays instead of allen. When we started that unbeaten run he was pivotal we started struggling the moment we lost him to injury.and stated conceding alot more.
    .

    ReplyDelete
  109. Others and it would not be totally out of the question.

There is something very fishy about the whole situation.

    ReplyDelete
  110. ---------------------------Mignolet

    Clyne--------------Skrtel------Sakho-------Moreno

    ------------------------------Can

    -----------------Hendo---------------Milner

    ------Vietto--------------Benteke-----------Cou

That team would be a dream come true.

    For Villa.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Sounds like we shouldn't.

    Sounds like we will.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yeah, because that really is my style, isn't it?
saying you cant wait for NEXT season to end because your crystal ball says it's going to be rubbish invites people to comment that they think that's overly pessimistic

    ReplyDelete
  113. Champ, I've never met you, so who am I to know if that's your style?

Mate, that's the moaning line I was talking about. I thought it was rather obvious that I used some hyperbole there. I wasn't being fully serious.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Their decision had nothing to do with other managers.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Keeping a watching brief mainly.
Being amazed by some quite decent comments

    ReplyDelete
  116. Klopp or Ancelotti have not said anything about how long their break will be and to suggest that we must wait quite simply will show that FSG have no clue on how to run this club.

Klopp and Ancelotti wait for us? You having a laugh?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Oh, yeah. The Eds can be a real piece of work though, *especially* ed002. Half the time you ask him a question, he just gives you a cold one-lined answer that don't really answer your question.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I realise that now looking at the whole exchange rather than the single post.
And my exchanges on this site are proof that I think for myself, I would venture..

    ReplyDelete
  119. Sorry, but I don't store your exchanges in my memory bank!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Well, that didn't last long, I knew it was too good to be true.
No Loge - Is that still your name this year? THEY are not waiting for US,
    We are waiting for THEM.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Ha ha, no, but you get a feel for various posters over the years, no?

    ReplyDelete
  122. BrendansbiggestFan..

    ReplyDelete
  123. Not sure he needs to. Sterling's doors are closing one after the other. Ward thinks he's a big shot- look what happened with Bayern...

    ReplyDelete
  124. I did, but when I came back as Gandalf the White, my brain was reset.

    ReplyDelete
  125. If you read the first part of my comment 'we must wait' then clearly you did not read it properly.

And they are not going to wait for us either as per my second sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  126. True. The man have no clue in big games or when under pressure.. Now he's being asked to prove he's the man to take us forward he definitely fall even further

    ReplyDelete
  127. Br identifies his target and ha the final say. No confusing there., he's getting worst everyday instead of leaning from past mistakes

    ReplyDelete
  128. We've had problems with signing top players the moment we lost the last top notch manager we had. So its not all br 's fault but he's part of the problem. Fsg has not hired anyc elite managers but keep us filled with the bs they want to get back into the elite.

    ReplyDelete
  129. If logan was chairman, in sequential fashion.

    > Rodgers finishes 2nd, signs new 10 year contract

    2014/15 season:
    > Team struggling, Rodgers sacked
    > Hires Koeman
    > Hires Allardyce
    > Hires Pulis
    > Hires Klopp.

    Yep.

    ReplyDelete
  130. At least rafa won something at this club in the first 3 years. What has our resident David Brent won?

    ReplyDelete
  131. Are you referring to a certain long running, subscription based LFC site or am I off the pace a bit?

    ReplyDelete
  132. Napoli are also in talks.

I think it's BR's last chance, if he fails he'll get the sack for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  133. £10M compensation is probably the reason why they did not sack him.

    ReplyDelete
  134. How have they not backed him?

    ReplyDelete
  135. No subscriptions are involved.

    ReplyDelete
  136. The reason is quite simple actually:

Bob Loblaw and I co-wrote a letter to John Henry explaining the fact that Bob controls your naming rights.

Johnny couldn't pass up the opportunity

    ReplyDelete
  137. Money wasn't the reason.

    ReplyDelete
  138. What site? Lfconline? They banned me when KD got sacked because I made a post saying I think it was the right decision and of course they all called me Wind Up Merchant...

    ReplyDelete
  139. Righto - I see you dilute your sources of LFC goss.

    I'm loyal to Jaimie ;)

    ReplyDelete
  140. You think so? Maybe they liked his "characterrrr"

    ReplyDelete
  141. But he has already failed? If they sacked Hodgson and Kenny then why on earth throw the kitchen sink at it for another season with Rodgers?

Like Nick said, if they really have decided BR should stay then the word would have already come from the horses mouth. It hasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I think he failed as well. Any other big clubs would have sacked him this season. So I do wonder why he was not sacked...can only think of the amount of compensation they would need to shell out.

I don't even think they reached out to Klopp.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Maybe his 1000 page dossier had some great character development

    ReplyDelete
  144. Which FSG member has come out and said that?

Only the media are claiming that it is so.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Oh sorry, I thought you meant in the transfer window.

    ReplyDelete
  146. They have not backed or sacked him. They are keeping quiet which quite frankly leaves everything up in the air.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Ha, no offence to JK, but he's not a good source for genuine information. All he does is rehash what the media is saying and then offer his own opinion on it.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I have counted my chickens, I suggest that you do not do the same...

    ReplyDelete
  149. I agree - but his opinion and critical view is the whole point of the site, not necessarily to give us a groundbreaking exclusive that we've signed Ezequiel Lavezzi. Plus that initiates the platform of discussion.

I've changed over the years though. I don't care much for information or insider views/knowledge/whatever anymore. I mostly watch the games and reflect on what the regulars post here.

    ReplyDelete
  150. They're called liverpool-rumours.co.uk. It may sound very amateur and inauthentic in the name itself, but they're reliable. For example, they were calling Depay to United for weeks and weeks, despite the roller coaster media speculation of Liverpool being favourites, then United, then Liverpool, then United...

    ReplyDelete
  151. Can't trust you yanks...

    ReplyDelete
  152. The Logan wise-cracks aside, FSG have made a baffling decision to stick with BR, and at the very least they should be expected to explain their decision.

BR in his own words, asked to be judged after three years. So what successes can be claimed after three years - a big fat zero!

This is just the beginning of another farce - and I'm sorry to say it will all end in tears by Xmas.

    Sheer lunacy...!!!

    ReplyDelete
  153. I think its the Liverpool Rumours site if I am not wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  154. My one true enemy is not Logan, it's the cursed word filter.

I will find a weakness. I will not rest until it has been destroyed. It can be defeated, and it will be defeated.

    I will liberate the people!

    ReplyDelete
  155. From my understanding, what they've basically done is gone in, had talks with him, haven't stressed that he won't be sacked, but haven't really stressed that he's there for the long haul either. BR said what he had to say, and Werner basically, 'Ok, thanks. We'll talk soon.'

    ReplyDelete
  156. They claim to be in the know but never get anything right. And, then there is that Macca guy who was adamant we would get Bony before he went to City.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I hear and support all your movement!

But alas, it seems an evil we need to live with, unless JK can find a better alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Counting our chickens before they hatch...

What could possibly go wrong? :)

    ReplyDelete
  159. That darn word filter...

    ReplyDelete
  160. we can have him .. we have balo..if he does not perform..then he will like others..we dont have anymore world class player..

    ReplyDelete
  161. Hahahahaha! I remember when he said that he would give his life for the club in his first press conference....heck no!!!

    ReplyDelete
  162. for villa,....haha

    ReplyDelete
  163. Yep, it would seem they are giving him enough time to fail by Xmas - which is plain stupid.

Behind the scenes I can only assume FSG are having to wait for either of Klopp or Ancellotti to re-charge their batteries.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Ward shot himself in the foot with his publicity stunt.

Teams will only be willing to put up with so much for a talented player such as Sterling. The more talent that is there, the more they'll put up with. Unfortunately for Sterling, he's still relatively unproven.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Dude, don't listen to Macca. He's not an ed for a reason. They only post things that they're very sure of, otherwise their answer is 'I don't know', or 'I cannot sensibly comment on that matter'. If they say Liverpool were talking with x player, but then 2 days later miss out to some other club, it doesn't mean they were wrong about what they said. Things just suddenly change.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Klopp and Ancelotti's phones are very likely ringing right now with job after job offer.

So FSG have been told by both Klopp and Ancelotti that they will let FSG know when they are ready to take the job? Really?

    ReplyDelete
  167. Nothing like some egg in face to rest your case!

    ReplyDelete
  168. Everyone gets sacked from that Jon though. One season nor quite at the very very top level and your gone. I would say anyone winning leagues and Champions leagues can't be considered failures. Because otherwise Rafa will be too.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Just saying ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  170. As for your last paragraph, not necessarily.

Constant job offers from who? Madrid don't want them, Barca don't, Atletico don't, Bayern don't, Arsenal don't, United don't. The only other realistic club is Man City. They've been awfully quiet about Pellegrini though. You'd think he'd be gone by now...

    ReplyDelete
  171. Well Ancellotti has just turned down AC Milan.. saying he needs an op and rest, and he's hopeful the job offers will still be there when he's recovered.

    Klopp's made similar comments.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Don't listen to what Sid says about them ;)

    ReplyDelete
  173. Matey...Nothing angers us (LFC supporters) as much as loosing to top 4 sides (Chelski,Manutd,Arsenal and Mancity).

And in my honest opinion , the top 4 sides will only get stronger and lethal when comes the next season after reinforcements are done with Marquee signings.
With all the dead wood and a clueless manager , I fear LFC will be s@domized by these teams !

    ReplyDelete
  174. I doubt any top manager wants the AC Milan job.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I think he'd prefer us to Milan. Milan are in absolute crisis at the moment, for starters.

    ReplyDelete
  176. YOU... SHALL... NOT... PASS!

    ReplyDelete
  177. Closer to a nightmare if you ask me....

    ReplyDelete
  178. and you're his lawyer>?

    ReplyDelete
  179. Finding Nemo could offer a handy idea...

    ReplyDelete
  180. If memory serves me correct, one of the Ed's actually said that Rodgers decided against Bony at the start of last season.

    ReplyDelete
  181. tiny and a useless part *

    ReplyDelete
  182. Actually yes, they did say that. He dithered around on Remy and Bony and ended up with Balotelli to appease the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  183. It would be naive to not believe that many clubs have lined themselves up to take the likes of Klopp on board.

    ReplyDelete
  184. You know what I'm trying to find out form the eds though? Why FSG didn't actually just sack Rodgers right there, right then. It's not money they say, not other managers they say, but when I ask what the hell it was that made them indecisive, they won't f***ing tell me. They're prickly bastards...

Also, did you see me ask ed001 about what things they have just left alone? He said the answer is obvious, but it really isn't.

    ReplyDelete
  185. In defense of Karl Rove (don't hold it against me), the only reason why he refused to accept it was because he wasn't provided with the most updated information.

His logic was sound based upon the information provided to him.

And once the updated information was provided, he quickly acknowledged it.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Sure, but I don't think there's many of them- if any- that would attract him.

    ReplyDelete
  187. If it ends then I'll have tears of happiness.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Tony Barrett is awfully quiet too and he is normally the one who reports on LFC matters first. Not one word from him either.

    Seat belts people...

    ReplyDelete
  189. I may be wrong, but I believe JK detailed how our record with Lucas as DM this past season was significantly better than our record without Lucas as DM.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Who will be get though if he gets sacked. I am all for Klopp and Ancelotti and they have said they are not available and even if they are, I would not be confident of landing them. The other option is De Boer but do not know about his credentials.

    ReplyDelete
  191. West Ham are reportedly approaching Unai Emery. There are other managers available out there who can do no worse than Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  192. We're no chance of Ancelotti if we pursue now. Klopp, there is still a possibility. He never explicitly said he's having a long break, you can interpret his words a number of ways.

    ReplyDelete
