Surprise Transfer: Liverpool want to sign 'spectacular' £25m international star to replace Mario Balotelli

After the shambolic failure of Lambortelli to make any consistent impact this season, Liverpool are scrambling for new strikers this summer, and the latest name to enter the fray is Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.

According to The Telegraph today:

* Liverpool are planning to offload Lambotelli this season, and make a bid for 29-year old Dzeko.

* The Bosnian striker will allegedly cost £25m.

When asked recently about his future, Dzeko dismissed the notion that he is under threat from new signing Wilfried Bony, and barked:

"I’ve said before and I will it say again, I am only focused on Manchester City and the national team. I am not interested in other speculation, it’s not worth bothering with".

Dzeko has struggled to maintain a first-team place at City for a few years now, and at some point, he surely has to call it a day? This season, for example:

* Only 12 starts in the Premier League

* Unused substitute in five of the last six games.

* Substitute and/or subbed off in 90% of City's games this season.

Dzeko - hailed by Jose Mourinho last season as a 'spectacular' striker - surely has to be one of the most substituted players in the league, and it's hard to see how he can be happy with the way things are.

Money talks, though; Dzeko reportedly earns £135k-a-week (£7m-a-year), so I'm sure that softens the blow of being a constant benchwarmer.

With 6 goals/3 assists in 35 appearances this season, Dzeko hasn't really been given a chance to get going, but in recent years, his creative output is creditable. Stats for 2011-2014:

* 60 goals/32 assists in 136 apps (Goal/assist every 1.5 games)

The stats show that when Dzeko is played consistently, he scores and creates goals consistently. It's not exactly rocket science, but for some reason, Manuel Pellegrini just doesn't seem to rate him enough for regular starts.

Dzeko is a clearly a significant upgrade on Lambortelli, but will he come to Anfield? Probably not. In a recent interview, his agent, Irfan Radzipegic, told reporters:

"Dzeko wants to play for the most prestigious teams in Europe. If he were to leave Manchester City he’d prefer a big club like Juventus or Atletico Madrid."

I doubt Liverpool are on Dzeko's radar, but that's okay - he's not the type of striker Liverpool need, and the isn't set-up to ping constant crosses into the box to capitalise on his height and physicality.

Additionally, £25m is a joke, and I'd rather see Liverpool spend that kind of money on a player like Alexander Lacazette, who is a better fit for the team.

That said, if Liverpool are to sign a Manchester City player this summer, I hope it's Dzeko and not James Friggin' Milner.

  3. I completely agree with you on this, people harp on about the loss of Suarez (which is a huge loss) but they always fail to mention the loss of Sturridge. Liverpool didn't just loss one of the top scorers of the 2013/14 we actually lost the 1st & 2nd top scorers in the league (60 goals) and no matter who you bring in that is hard to replace

  4. Hey stupid..... Do you not realise? ..... You said it yourself he had a say in transfers... that does not mean he made the decision to buy and the decision to pay what was paid... Do open your eyes to the big world....

And changed that opinion completely in a matter of weeks following our failure to win the PL. Before that he was BR's No 1 Fan according to the man himself

  7. Saw on BBC gossip page that Chelski want to sell both Oscar and Cuadrado to raise money to buy Sterling. Why don't we straight up trade Sterling for the both of them? We come out the winner on that deal.

  8. Factors that could have been avoided, Mike.

Looked like his injury troubles were gone?! It's like you're making up excuses as you go along! Last season, despite playing 29 games, Sturridge was never physically stable. The guy was constantly getting re-injured. Br even admitted he was worried about his injury troubles before this season. He has been a sick note his whole career.

How about the defence? Are we going to blame that on the sturridge injury too? That post Christmas run does not hide the fact that our defence is, in actual fact, poor.

Stop thinking you can tell peoplewho they can and can't support... How about, just supporting rather than hoping it all blows up in his face.... To get what you want, I'd have to become just another careless fair weather fan, you know the type, they want everything now, without any attempt to earn it..... I really can't stand the arrogant self entitled fan that claim to love the club, while hoping to help rip out its heart.....

Sorry, was that too strong...? Am I sounding unreasonable? Maybe a little self absorbed..... I'm embarassed to be associated with such hateful ramblings, all the time laughing at the fans of Newcastle or Chelsea, or City for not earning their trophies....

You have every right to your opinion, but remember, it's your opinion.... Constructive criticism is always welcome, but we can all do without the rest.

    I'm sorry ,I don't agree.
They had to win that game. We didn't. We only had to not lose. When that goal went in our two full backs were way up the pitch when they should have been watching the back door for precisely the type of thing that happened.
Rafa was always going on about being 'in control' THIS IS THE PREMIER LEAGUE- you are never in control until you are 3 or 4 up. Sometimes not even then (see Palace, Crystal)
Sit back, get men behind the ball as a primary objective. Use the fact that your opponent has to open up and push men forward to win the game. Hit them with your proven, lightning -fast counterattacking front line. Above all, do not take risks.
Mourinho has made an art of it.

Good striker, but £25m is a bit steep for a bit part player....I think he has always been a better impact sub than a starter.....But at 29, he'll probably have less of an impact these days... I hear Mario Mandzukic maybe available this summer, and probably cheaper, even though he'd be worth more...

  14. Stan Dinaround1:46 am, May 20, 2015

Instead of selling both to raise the cash, we'll do a straight swap.. You have Sterling, and we'll happily have Oscar and Cuadrado....If true, then this is a totally mental transfer...

Never physically stable? How did he play 29 PL games and score 21 times when 'not physically stable? YOU are the one making things up.
Sturridge had a SINGLE injury; a torn ankle ligament. He missed 9 games. He played in every other game. You call that constantly being reinjured?
Your logic is unsound. Van Persie had been a sicknote for years. Utd bought him and he scored 28 goals and made 36 appearances. He then played 30 games the following season, until being hit again by injury this term. One simply cannot say that a player will or will not get injured seriously if he plays for anything near 30 games a season.
Back to the original point. Take the top striker from ANY of the top 4 and they will struggle to make the top 4. Fact, I'm afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mike Aitcheson2:15 am, May 20, 2015

Exactly. And poor though our backup strikers have been, Chelsea's 2 other striker only scored 9 goals between them all season playing for the runaway CHAMPIONS. Losing Suarez's 31 goals would mean Chelsea would have to ditch Costa AND Hazard's tally this season bar 2 goals
How would they have done then?
Take Rooney from Utd and they would have scored 50 goals. Top 4? Arsenal without Sanchez-48.
    These things MATTER

Bad news for all those hardcore Rafa fans out there hoping FSG will be bringing him back to the club.... News is Real Madrid have approached Rafa to take over from Ancellotti.... The news come from Gian Luca di Marzio... An Italian journo with an uncanny success rate when calling player and manager moves... He callled the Sakho deal to LFC well before it even hit the British Press, among many other right calls.... That would leave Klopp available though.....

By the way, we are still 6th out of 20 teams, and within 7 of 3 of the top 4
And lead the PL in clean sheets (jointly)
Could and should be better. But Poor?

He also made it clear that BR is going to be sacked.
Repeated it constantly. Told people to deal with it.
Still moaning about someone he says isn't even going to be there though.
    No conviction.

  21. Mike Aitcheson2:50 am, May 20, 2015

Klopp is a genuine threat to BR. He had better get a tune out of the side in the final game or else it could be curtains
If we do get Klopp, the next in line if we don't sign top players will be Ayre. But according to many, BR is the one holding that back...

How do you mean holding back,as in his game, in someway hoping to force the owners to buy the more complete players rather than potential... Bit of a dangerous game to play.. Owners could sack him as not good enough, or the lack of ability in the squad, could invariably put players off coming here if they think Brendan can't get the potential out of his players...... Or do you mean, holding back in transfers...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Its all good and well to say that, but Chelsea last season wasnt exactly a game that you can just decide 'Im going to win this' and it happens. Same with Utd this season.
And how can you say if HE had been better? Gerrard should have been better at not getting sent off, the forwards should have been better at scoring, the midfielders should have been better in assisting and the defenders should have been better in defending. You cant put sub par performances entirely on the gaffer, he's not physically on the field playing the game, they are.

    Nice portmanteau.

I'd take Dzeko, he's better than anyone on the squad over the course of a season (better to have Dzeko for the majority of the season than Sturridge for the minority).

As for meshing with our style of play...
    ...what style of play?

We've not yet stuck on a style of play for more than a few months.

Maybe we'd be better off going Full Houliier with a big, target man and a gaggle of central defenders and central midfielders? No Owen, though...

  40. A manager is the most important part of any team . He's the one that decides that tactics. He's the one that has to motivate / pick up the players when things aren't going so well. Generally in England it's the manager that decides which players to bring in. Rodgers definitely said he gets the final say on any transfers. That doesn't sound to good to be honest. Sounds like he's told this players really good and he's just got to say yes or no.

  44. Dzeko is a very good striker IMO but he also goes through a rough patch from time to time. I see him scoring goals for fun when he hits the purple patch but then he suddenly disappears. He is also a brilliant option as a substitute coming on after 65-70min. However, I don't think he will join Liverpool to be on the bench. We will have to give him (and Milner) several assurances like a place in starting XI, high wages, title ambitions or at least top 4. Dzeko is not very young and he hasn't been in a worldly form off late so we shouldn't shell out anything more than 15mn for him. I would also prefer him over someone like Jovetic who is also a good striker but with a terrible injury record. I think Man City will overhaul their squad this season and players like Dzeko, Jovetic, Milner and Toure might be available in order for City to comply with FFP. Milner is certainly no brainer for me and he will easily walk into our starting XI assuming our squad remains the same. Dzeko might not be a striker that suits our playing style but he is a useful player.

  46. “We have to look to improve the squad again which every big club will do,” said Rodgers.

“For fans and players it’s great to get those marquee players – and there are maybe one or two we need. The owners will support that. If they’re available and affordable within the model then we will look to get them.

  51. BR is still very inexperienced, lacks exposure and most definitely uncomfortable with intelligent players. He will mess up top players soccer careers. Best is to replace him. Or put him in the Liverpool Academy so that he can build his own young side. BR is a good person but for now not suitable to lead big clubs. His time will come later.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You are bang on. Bravo!

Fans like this fly banners over Anfield. End of discussion really

    ReplyDelete
  53. Werner part owns the club he cant be sacked.

    ReplyDelete
  54. So, do you want Liverpool to receive a medal for that? Conceding 5 more goals than United is not an achievement.

I don't care how you paint it, our defensive system is poor. We have a midfielder playing at centre back. We have had four separate midfielders and wingers play at wing-back. We have had no proper defensive midfielder, a) because Rodgers neglects how important the position is, and b) because Rodgers neglects Lucas and neglects the fact that we play better when he's in the team. We have a dedicated defender on loan that he doesn't even want to use. Another centre back that he reluctantly uses cost him 20 million pounds. But yet you're telling me our defence system isn't poor? All of this screams to me that Rodgers has no feel for defence, and does not know how to plan.

Don't let a temporary period of good form fool you into thinking that our defence is pretty good. That period was just another one of Rodgers' hallmarks of copying a makeshift formula that will eventually get found out anyway.

And don't let it make you believe that Mignolet is the answer after all, just because of clean sheets courtesy of the quick fix. He's not.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't really see how Dzeko fits into the free flowing attacking style of last season? Unless of course Rodgers is looking to change his tactics once again? I always figured Dzeko to be more of a target man.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Not as close but we did finish second.

    ReplyDelete
  57. It's not true though.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Rafa goes to Real then who goes to City? Ancelloti or Klopp?

    ReplyDelete
  59. It's the name of a bond villain.

    ReplyDelete
  60. No, Sturridge is not physically stable, relatively speaking. For example, he put himself on the sickbed for a further 5 weeks or so because he juggled a football at a training session. You can't let one good season of match appearances cancel out a worrying injury history.

RVP had a good couple of years, now he's back on the sickbed again. Sometimes you can have a fortunate spell. The difference is United could afford that because they've always had very decent back up- Rooney especially, Hernandez, and Falcao.

It's not indisputable. Chelsea cruised into the top 4 last year without any standout striker because they could rely on their other attacking players to share the burden. Arsenal have Welbeck and Sanchez to call on if Giroud is out, plus their wealth of AMs. City have Dzeko, Jovetic and their midfielders. See the pattern here? The top 4 clubs you talk about have a good plan B. Where was our plan B? Lambert and Borini, the latter of which we didn't even want? And then absolutely last resort Balotelli?

Once again, Rodgers doesn't know how to plan. 100 million to spend and he goes out buying f***ing attacking midfielders and fullbacks when what we *really* needed first was a capable striker and a defensive midfielder.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Everybody knew Sturridge was injury prone before we even bought the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I see where you're coming from and apart from his success I enjoyed Benitez as a person but the success you mentioned and the good signings all came in his first three years at the club. From the summer of 2008 onward it all went downhill. Although I would say Glen Johnson was a good signing considering he stayed our first choice right back for the next five years. The reason I wouldn't want him back though is because his teams are not that much fun to watch and the one thing I do enjoy about Rodgers being at the club is that he is willing to go out and attack if he's given the right players. Klopp, Frank de Boer fit that profile.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Now now, we almost didn't lose to Real. Apparently that was quite the achievement.

    ReplyDelete
  64. That's incorrect. Top managers buy the players the team needs, he plays them in their correct position, and he has an effective game formula that works in the long term. Man Utd absolutely stuttered along this year and we still couldn't take advantage of that. Oh, and not the mention, Rodgers is losing more and more players in the dressing room by the week.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think Rodgers is good at coaching players. See Hendo and Suarez. As for 'man-management; I think we can just call it management. Here I've seen enough examples to suggest to me that Rodgers doesn't manage the people and resources available to him optimally, even after taking into account that he hasn't been given all the resources and people he's asked for.

I don't know whether he should go or not. But I'll admit I'm curious about what a different manager can do with this squad, partly after Rodgers complained about too little coaching time due to European games.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ancellotti. City are desperate to do well in the champions league and Ancellotti has the pedigree

    ReplyDelete
  67. Agreed, I think Dzeko is a good player but I don't think he's mobile enough for our preferred system... Whatever that is

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yep that was abominable.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Technically, yes, he can coach them. But there's a lot more to management than that.

He hasn't been given the resources he's asked for? Isn't 100 million pounds enough? 100 million pounds is plenty enough to buy the players the team *needs*. The fate of every single player we signed or rejected rested in Rodgers' hands. Remy failed no medical, Rodgers just vetoed the decision. He dithered around with Bony and we missed out on him too. He wanted Balotelli, but only because he was in BR's eyes the best choice out the last pool of options we had.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'd definitely prefer Jovetic. He's younger, quicker, dribbles well and can shoot well with both feet. Like Dzeko he's struggling for game time at City, so maybe he'd be worth a bid (or as a makeweight for RS *if* he ends up joining the City substitutes bench).

    ReplyDelete
  71. Here we go again seemingly not knowing we're heading, disgruntled and frustrated fans, and a manager who is a waste of space, and a MD who could not negotiate day out at the seaside. Just what the hell is going on behind the scenes. John Henry you need to sort things out ASAP don't let this great club suffer any longer, with these two Imposters at the helm we are going knowhere.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Who Nick what players?
Well what manager is going to get who to come to Liverpool we are not attractive to top players regardless of who is managing even Benitez struggled to attract players in the end.

Yes we stuttered all season but Rodgers has earned another and i dont care what anyone says that side was not good enough they lacked that in many areas

    ReplyDelete
  73. My comment went into moderation wherein I stated that both are good strikers but I would prefer Dzeko as Jovetic has a terrible injury record.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yes it's the injuries that concern me

    ReplyDelete
  75. Well, Gerrard and Lucas to start off with.

We didn't need absolute world beaters to make the top 4, I don't know why you keep on persisting with that belief. Rodgers hasn't earned another season when he's the one responsible for the calamity this season. The guy is a liability.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I agree, I would be staggered if he went to Turkey. He was probably just on holiday with the missus for a few days and the papers have run with it

    ReplyDelete
  77. Well no one was able to score consistently the finishing was abysmal read the stats Balotellis shots on goal to goals is awful.
We did recruit badly last season thats no secret but at least rest some responsibility with the players the manager cant do it for them.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Lacking in areas that could have been smartly filled, courtesy of 100 million pounds of transfer funds. Key areas we lacked: a defensive midfielder and a striker.

    ReplyDelete
  79. If they’re available and affordable within the model then we will look to get them.

How is that a promise that any will sign?

    ReplyDelete
  80. He doesn't seem like he'd fit in to the Liverpool system. He's a bit like Balotelli, plays well with another striker, and we all know how that has turned out for Balotelli this season.
£25 million is also way off the mark. £10 million would be more likely.

    ReplyDelete
  81. The manager brought those players in! Balotelli was a last resort because Rodgers dithered around with Bony and vetoed Remy at the eleventh hour.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I wouldnt have bothered with Remy anyway but one would still have expected a bit more from the other.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Na Rodgers will be manager next season.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah it's a bit of a red flag for jovetic and he's had some poor luck. I think I remember him suffering a CL injury at Fiorentina and he's definitely struggled for fitness sometimes at City, but then he's also been underused which can't help his situation. A class act though. He's a more creative player than Dzeko and I could see him fitting in well.

    ReplyDelete
  85. On hindsight, we should have kept Rafael and just got new owners.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Chelsea just got champions, are full of Russian money and yet the newspapers try to tell is that they need to sell 2 players to buy Sterling?
Seriously when did we start believing everything the sportjournalists say?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Criminal that we didn't get an experienced defensive midfielder in last summer, but we were never going to because Gerrard had to play there.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Unfortunately he's too injury prone ...

    ReplyDelete
  89. Your first paragraph is spot on.

I'm not sure of the facts around Remy, Bony, Balotelli and the constraints around how to spend the 100 million big ones, but I am convinced that he could have managed the squad to better effect. So, yes, he leaves a lot to be desired as a manager.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Spot on. Carra, Hypia, Agger, Riise, Arbeloa... Any one of them would walk back into our current squad

    ReplyDelete
  91. My thoughts too. At least he shoukd have had one season under them.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Incontro-fuckin'-vertibly!

    ReplyDelete
  93. So you easily ignored the part "The owners will support that". Promise wasn't mentioned but it is clear that BR and Owners will support the idea of bringing in Marquee signings.

    ReplyDelete
  94. And if Rodgers bothered with buying a bonafide DM, then maybe our defence would be less of an issue. But he didn't, because he doesn't seem to have a defensive aptitude. That's why he ignores Lucas.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yes, but Balotelli was always a huge risk, and he knew that.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Dossena, Ngog,Voronin...

    ReplyDelete
  97. Would you resign and sacrifice millions? I wouldn't

    ReplyDelete
  98. We don't cross the ball into the box so that's half of Dzeko neutered already.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yeah much prefer Jovetic.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Exactly. There is a distinct lack of level heads in our fractious fambase. Someone is either awful or awesome depending on where you sit instead of an understanding of personal flaws and background problems they face. As well as the other myriad of issues.

  101. I wouldn't be in that position at first place.

    ReplyDelete
  102. How clever! No manners? You could at least have said please. Go forth and multiply sweety! xx

    ReplyDelete
  103. Only then for Rodgers to notify Gerrard that the days of consistently starting for the team will soon become a thing of the past.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Get Kolarov!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Not the player we need.

So talks between Rodgers and FSG after the Stoke match making headlines. I would love to be a fly on the wall. Rumour has it that a DOF will be one of the subjects. Rodgers will walk.

  109. He's a good player so we'll sign the guy that will eventually grow up to be less good than him.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Stop thinking and start opining.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Can anyone provide a statistics on Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd winning ratio in the absence of Diego Costa, Giroud, Aguero and Van Persie, respectively? It will be interesting to compare it with Liverpool's winning ratio without Sturridge which is obviously miserable. This might also give some perspective on how other teams manage without their star striker compared to how we manage it.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Perfect for the club, too, who can now sell one of the club's rising stars with the fans' consent.

    ReplyDelete
  113. he hasn't ignored any part of the statement, but yet has read the full thing, both parts go hand in hand.
Is Ibrahimovic a marquee signing yes absolutely, does he fit within the model, absolutely not.
Does Hazard fit both, absolutely, are we going to get him no, because he's not available. It is you who are ignoring part of the statement.
I'm not saying that the statement has been full filled myself, although some management may argue it has to a degree, with the likes of Lallana and Sakho, young talented names who were available, the key is available and in the model, which means not throwing 150k/week to get them.
Marco Reus fits the model, has he been available yet? no, hence why he's still at BVB, has that now changed very probable, should we currently be in contact, in my opinion we should've tried to have a deal wrapped up already, but his injury history could sway to stay clear.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Will definitely be an upgrade on Balo and Lambert but money can be better spent.

So news going around that it is Rodgers and FSG after the Stoke match. DOF apparently one of the subjects so going to be interesting to see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  115. We had one in Commolli before, didn't work out well. I think only manager should decide which player he wants otherwise the blame game will continue every season.

    ReplyDelete
  116. According to Gus Poyet who managed Sunderland at the time, Borini wanted to join them permanently but there were other factors preventing him from doing so, and Borini hinted at something similar at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  117. and Pastore will just be absolutely dieing to push true a move to Liverpool especially with Rodgers future uncertain and no CL football...who makes up these special stories.

    ReplyDelete
  118. The right thing to do, and it should have happened a long time ago, and as we saw from his reaction, Gerrard is not content with fighting for his place like the rest of the mugs at the club.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Yeah Nick surely we could have expected better from Lovren Skrtel Sakho and to a degree Can were fine.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Comolli was only in charge of transfers dealings. He had no say in what Dalglish did on the footballing side.

This time it will be someone who has control from top to bottom and then Rodgers will have the duties of training and coaching the team only. He will have to abide by the DOF's rules and is the reason why Rodgers turned us down the first time round and is unlikely that he will accept to be demoted from manager to 1st team coach...

    ReplyDelete
  121. Oscar yes but we can do better than Cuadrado.

    ReplyDelete
  122. The manager works with the DOF and still plays the major part in tactics.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Liverpool's new manager said: "The owners probably spoke to one or two people about certain roles but I wanted clarity on it [the structure] and I didn't agree until after three discussions with them. I wanted to make sure it was going to be the case that I would be in charge of football matters. That I would control the team, control the work and then what we have underpinning that is a team all with one vision and one mentality – that is to make the first team better. If it was anything other than that then I couldn't have said yes because that's not my strength."

Obviously FSG did not offer full control and is why Rodgers "didn't agree until after three discussions". Rodgers 180 page dossier will be binned and a 'new vision' will be made up for him by the person who works above him.

    ReplyDelete
  124. If they werent loosening rules on FFP i would disagree but i cant.

    ReplyDelete
  125. If they bring in a dof they still work in tandem with a couple of others when deciding how to play.
Who to buy and sell will be the interesting question as to who has power there.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Rodgers will have no say on who gets bought or sold.

If Rodgers did not agree until after 3 occasions with FSG when they interviewed him for the job then there must have been many things Rodgers would have been excluded from when it comes to decision making.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Haha! I was just about to say the same thing about the Chelski gossip, apparently them selling Oscar and Cuadrado to fund the Sterling purchase, I all I can say is be our guest but instead lets do a straight swap. Nonsense more than likely but it's a no-brainer if true swap swap swap please! But truth is I am 99% sure it's a load of B*ll*cks unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Yes he will have a say how much is the point 1 thing you cant have is teams buying players a manager just wont have.
The structure will be the main thing yes i do think we will have a DOF next season.

    ReplyDelete
  129. No ,I mean that some say players would have signed if we had someone else in charge.eg BR is a nobody, if we'd had Rafa Sanchez would have signed... that sort of thing

    ReplyDelete
  130. I do not see Rodgers here next season, especially if the subject of DOF becomes a reality...

It is either going to be an experienced manager who has won things or a DOF/coach. FSG simply will not be interested in another year of transition.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I think DoF role is a bit different than what you think.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Surely that's just to sack him? Your words.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Logan this is the thing you bring in new staff you are going through another year in transition this is partly why i want to keep Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  134. And 5 points behind in the PL. With SIX world class players vs 1 and an aging SG

    ReplyDelete
  135. I was referring to last season's Chelsea game

    ReplyDelete
  136. Yea I like Jovetic too but there are concerns about his fitness. Still, 35 million plus Jovetic for Sterling? Done

    ReplyDelete
  137. Who says we will go through another year of transition? The next move FSG make will be crucial. If they stick with Rodgers then we will be guaranteed transition.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Chelsea went through a transition with Mou United Van Gaal and Moyes yes us too.

    ReplyDelete
  139. People who are talking about lacazette should forget it. He's not going to leave (Cl) to come to us under rodgers. He might have before this season but now he's higher stock than rodgers and sadly the current liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Chelsea have won the League Cup and EPL this season. How can that be transition? UTD have qualified for the CL this season after finishing 7th last season. In what sense is that transition? Both have improved from their previous seasons.

LFC cannot afford to end next season without CL football again. The loss in revenue for the CL for next season alone will have a negative impact especially when it comes to our sponsors.

Rodgers is in his third season and we need to accept another year of transition? No wonder why we have fallen so far behind the other teams ahead of us.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  142. In their first season Logan geez are you reading what i am writing or are you just wanting to communicate with the girls in my picture?
Liverpool have a young inexperienced list Logan hardly any of our players are at their peak age wise.
Thus no matter how you look at it we are still rebuilding and yes in a form of transition.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Everybody wants someone to blame rather than looking at where it collectively went wrong.
I read in the Guardian that FSG are having an investigation into what went wrong from the top to the bottom of the club so I suspect there'll be some form of restructuring, managerial or otherwise

    ReplyDelete
  144. So if you were a football manager, you would never find yourself in a position where fans were saying you should resign? I find that highly doubtful.

    ReplyDelete
  145. This is Van Gaal's 1st season at UTD. What has it got to do with Moyes? Chelsea still qualified for 2013/2014 season. Both teams have progressed from their previous seasons. That is what matters.

This is Rodgers 3rd season in charge and he still has no clue even on a playing style. What do you think FSG are going to discuss with Rodgers after the Stoke match? Are they going to accept any sentence containing transition when discussing next season?

    ReplyDelete
  146. Well i think you are confusing last seasons success as to where the side is you will not likely win much with kids.
FSG had their buy under 23 plan surely they and you know patience is needed.
Anyway time will tell on what Henry and co think we can only speculate.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Ok but I am quite confident about it.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Same prize I think. With the amount of money in England for such player 25 is the premium.

    ReplyDelete
  149. FSG are not going to accept another year of transition. Rodgers has had 3 seasons without success and will be going for his 4th season.

FSG will have the questions and Rodgers will have very jittery answers.

What should be the minimum expectation with Rodgers in charge for another season?

    ReplyDelete
  150. Yh well he's the manager. He does most of the talking. He's the face of the operation so ofc he gets most of the blame. It's the same way if the signings had worked out this season Rodgers would have got all the praise.

    ReplyDelete
  151. The thing is that Rodgers helped talk Gerrard into retiring from England to play more first team football....

    ReplyDelete
  152. Well they're flipping rich they can do what ever they want.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Wouldnt like to say what will happen with FSG Henry will have his advisors a lot will depend i gather on advice.
We have come from a fair way back lets wait and see on what happens with that hey.
What ever happens i will back the club anyway weather i agree or not.
I am setting my sights now on the players recruiting managers are secondary to me atm.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I am actually against signing Lacazette now. I was hoping we would sign him last year when quoted price was around 10-15mn but not any more. I don't think he is worth the risk. He has scored lot of goals but almost in every goal you will the amount of space he got and some miserable defending. In EPL he will only able to score goals against a defence like us.

    ReplyDelete
  155. 'Top' as in from CEO downwards? Or from FSG, down through the chair and then further downwards?

    ReplyDelete
  156. Sorry stan, I like your attitude and comments but we as a support need to get over this "Chelsea and city didn't earn their titles".
They earned them by being the best side over 38 games. We had our chance to capitalise on our success through marketing and match day revenue but we blew it and now we're playing catch up having finally woken up. We'll still be crying about ffp and plastic flags when city or chelsea win their next titles. It gives us no credit as fans to have this attitude as were we winning trophies we would never mention these things. WE need to be better as a club and stop casting jealous glances at clubs with money. We're supposedly the 8t8th richest club in the world and have spent over 200 mill in the last 2 years on players. Were J Henry to decide to go on a 200 mill, one window shopping spree come the summer, we won't complain and will delight in hammering poorer clubs like Everton so we need to take our medicine cause it ain't gonna change anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  157. And I hope that is something Rodgers regrets.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I can tell you now FSG will not accept any excuses for another year of transition. Not after 3 seasons and over £200m spent.

Rodgers will have to choose his words very carefully. If FSG's expectations have not been met this season then Rodgers is heading for a grilling.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Well obviously not because sicknotes are loathe to play in the rain for fear of crumpling. The people, however...

    ReplyDelete
  160. I would like to thank Raheem....

    ReplyDelete
  161. The term 'Director of Football' is self explanatory.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Thanks for your input. Great As always.

    ReplyDelete
  163. The problem is that the team doesn't defend as a unit.

Skrtel is only good in a deep-lying defence. When the team has a high pressing game, he drifts back and creates holes. The other problem which really aggravates that is he doesn't communicate with his team mates.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I can't believe they're backtracking on FFP so quickly. Our owners won't like that.
It'll be interesting to see what the new rules are

    ReplyDelete
  165. If Cuadrado leaves Chelsea so quickly having failed so spectacularly, I can't see him going to another premier league club. He'll probably go back to Italy or perhaps Spain

    ReplyDelete
  166. Dzeko is not the right type of player I totally agree that Lacazette is far more the best suited, I would put Lacazette, Aubameyang, (Cough) Javi Hernandez or Menez above Dzeko not that he's a bad player far from it he's a superb striker he is just not the right kind of player for the way we are set up to play.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I remember last deadon we needed a favor from Everton, after the Chelsea game. But nobody was bothered on the field including Everton players and the referee when Dzeko was exactly 8 minutes on the floor, when City was up 2:1. I don't like this kind of attitude and i think Jovetic suits better to our style.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Yeah must be a bit of under the table stuff me thinks anyway we may get more for some players and pay more for others.
I can see us falling further behind if the rules are slackened too much.

    ReplyDelete
  169. If the story is true, then Rafa has finally his chance to show his tactical genius with top team and unlimited founds.

    ReplyDelete
  170. If Jovetic could remain fit id have him in a heartbeat he is what we need unlike Dzeko who doesnt really fit our current set up.
Alas i am not sure they will punt on Jovetic staying fit.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Maybe part of his injuries at City was just made up, like Balo in Liverpool. He could not make a bench so he is injured!? One thing: he is from same team like Markovic, Partizan Belgrade. Maybe they not played in the same time, but Jovetic was fantastic center forward with 18-19 years.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Yeah there should be.

    ReplyDelete
  173. We did mark his words after all :)

    ReplyDelete
  174. We should look at his Lyon team mate Fekir. Looks a quality player

    ReplyDelete
  175. Have you seen a worldcup? Cuadrado is a super player and cost lot of money. Firs they wont sell him and second he would be fantastic for us.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Based on my observations this past season, it is *highly* contagious. Spreads easier than Pretty Woman in a limo.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Menez yes, but Aubameyang it's like Sterling, he does not have footballing brain.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Manages the actual footballs, right? Tells them where to be at any given time? That sort of thing?

    ReplyDelete
  179. Obviously there will be transition.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Mike, what you "see" as reasons for LFC's poor performance this season look like excuses for BR - hence why the "apologist" label gets banded about.

All I will add, is BR is 100% responsible/accountable for the playing performance of the team. He decides who to buy, who to play and the tactics to be used. He might be lucky sometime, he may unlucky at other times. He needs to be credited when things go well, and take the flak when things go bad.

And now after 3 seasons, not 1, he is being judged against his peers and previous LFC managers. Unfortunately, he has won ZERO trophies in that time, which is unacceptable, and now needs to be upgraded.

    ReplyDelete
  181. That's excellent. As long as he doesn't confuse goals we should win every game.

    ReplyDelete
  182. This is a very counter-productive argument. Don't change, cos the change will take 2-3 years to occur and even then the change may not work.

When assessing past performance, and looking to change, there always tends to be at least 3 options:

    1. Do nothing - eg persist with BR
    2. Do something drastic - far out high risk option - eg hire an up and coming young manager
    3. Do something in the middle - eg get in a more experience manager but still run the risk of change

Unless you're a gambling person or can predict the future, most people usually reject option 2. That leaves the option 1 (least risky as you know what you've got, you know the risks, but are willing to put up with them, or take a punt on a new manager hoping his experience will overcome the risk of change not working.

Just being the type of person I am, I would always go with option 2.

    ReplyDelete
  183. The poll has it 78% to sack BR, and 22% to keep him.

So where are these 22%? Very quiet?

    ReplyDelete
  184. Never noticed the girls in your picture before, up vote for the girls!

    ReplyDelete
  185. As long as he doesn't put pin to paper were be ok

    ReplyDelete
  186. You're drooling on my wives, mate.

    ReplyDelete
  187. ...and with a name like Fekir it will be easy to turn on him when/if he doesn't produce.
    #OutWithTheFekir

    ReplyDelete
  188. Cold hard facts- the reason why I like this page. Just simple truths

    ReplyDelete
  189. Indeed and he should get a chance as opposed to sticking it out with Rogers who while he may have some good tactical ideas here and there, is clueless when it come to one very big part of the job-recruitment/transfers

    ReplyDelete
