New Target: BR in secret transfer trip to watch 'unbelievable' £10m star

Liverpool are reportedly considering a summer move for Leeds United wing-back Sam Byram, who is also being chased by Southampton.

According to reports today:

* Brendan Rodgers has allegedly sent scouts to watch Byram six times this season.

* Rodgers undertook a secret scouting mission last month to personally watch the 21-year old in action.

* Leeds president Massimo Cellino values Byram in the £10m range.

Some info about Byram:

* Can play right back, RWB, and right midfield.
* Started as a midfielder but now plays predominantly at RB.
* 113 apps for Leeds United (7 goals)
* 2013: Named 'Player of the Year' by the Yorkshire post.
* 2013: Leeds United Supporters' Club player of the year
* 2013: Called up to the England U20 squad.

* Rates Aaron Lennon as the toughest opponent he has faced, explaining that his 'stupidly fast' change of direction caused him more problems than Gareth Bale.

* Definitely wants to play in the Premier League. In a recent interview, he told reporters: "I'm looking to improve, to physically get stronger and faster, and being in the Premier League...would be the dream."

* Leeds boss Neil Redfearn claims Byram is comparable to Gareth Bale. Last season, he told the Yorkshire Post: "He [Byram] has unbelievable ability. I remember Gareth Bale coming onto the scene and looking like something similar. Sam has got that sort of ability"

Urgh. More totally unhelpful overpraise. But I digress...

If Rodgers is planning to stick with 343 for the foreseeable future, then it makes sense to bring in dedicated wing-backs (or players capable of excelling in that position), but £10m for a Championship defender with zero Premier League experience? No thanks.

That said, Manchester United paid a ridiculous £28m fee for Luke Shaw, so £10m for Byram is chicken-feed in comparison. The youngster also appears to have the right attitude to personal development, insisting that it's 'better to be over-critical than brush mistakes aside', which (IMO) is the right mental approach for a footballer.

Of Liverpool's current full-back, Jon Flanagan is arguable the most solid, with Johnson, Moreno, and Manquillo eminently expendable.

Worth a bid?

  1. As long as he's an upgrade on Johnson in will be happy.

Ps Moreno need to step up, been playing quite average recently.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Funny you should mention those two players together; lately I've been struggling to shake the feeling that Moreno may be the new Johnson. Perhaps they could be related?

  3. Maybe they're both half-Jamaican. Do they have fond memories of Africa?

  4. With no CL next year, without any TOP international players , a manager that cannot pull any TOP players , and owners that wont pay TOP wages .
No top players will be coming to Liverpool .

So maybe this is the BEST we can do !!

  5. He is a good player but not close to bale in any way would snap there hand off at anything over 8 mill

  13. Oh I bet it will! I'm afraid its only started,..

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'd say that's probably not that likely..just because some paper links us to a player th at doesn't mean we have actually signed them. .

    ReplyDelete
  15. How is Ings any more likely than Vietto? Milner than Konoplyanka? Byram than Montoya? Berahino hasn't even been linked...

They are rumors. LFC is an English team, so it makes sense that we'll have more English rumors. Don't go around spreading panic :P

    Liverpools summer plan:

    in Berahino 14m
    Ings free
    Redmond 8m
    Hughes 15m
    Milner free
    Delph 20m
    Bryam 12m
    Gibson 10m

    total 79m
    ......Out : Sterling 34m , Balotelli 7m , Borini 5m , Lucas 6m Lambert 3m
    total : 55m

fsg will spend their anaual net spend of 20-30m

  21. Twistadee something or other. We're due for a team clearout comment anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sturridge and Sterling are not gonna be happy with this line-up, cause frankly its racist to their continent.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Nevergonnacrackthecode7:46 pm, April 07, 2015

Sturridge will be dropped on current form

while Sterling will most likley finance it

    because we all know
FSG DO NOT GO ON SPENDING SPREES UNLESS THEY SELL THEIR BEST PLAYER EG TORRES AND SUAREZ

    ReplyDelete
  27. FSG don't spend unless they think it's worth it... which it isn't most of the time, but that's beside the point.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nevergonnacrackthecode7:48 pm, April 07, 2015

    Whoever you want to blame

FSG sure wont mind paying their 10k to 60k wages
maybe milner will earn a bit more

unfortunately i am on Liverpool fc

it is so fustrating supporting us

but you have to once you are a red you always will be

    ReplyDelete
  31. Chelsea have spent money that was made up fro selling other players for the last two seasons due to having to comply to FFP. Player sales +- £170 and that is what they will keep on doing from now on.

    ReplyDelete
  32. ^^ I wish ;(
Remember all the plastics that left with Torres? Sad, sad day.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Are you for real?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Of course not. He forgot Andy Carroll.

    ReplyDelete
  35. And that is why they were willing to sign Sanchez who would have most likely been our highest earner if he did sign?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nevergonnacrackthecode7:52 pm, April 07, 2015

    Chelsea sell their rejects
    eg David Luiz,Lukaku aand Mata

    Liverpool sell
    Suarez,Torres and Raheem sterling

what you are saying is equivalent of selling Borini for maybe 20m
that si what chelski do sell their rejects for big prices

they ahve not sold Hazard, Oscar ,Costa, Terry

    ReplyDelete
  37. Torres and suarez clearly wanted to leave.what did you want them to do?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nevergonnacrackthecode7:53 pm, April 07, 2015

We most likley offered him 130k
    he earns 120k at Arsenal

    but if we offered
280k a week same as Rooney,Van persie and Falcao

he would be an lfc player right now

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well we won't be blaming Rafa. Apparently West Ham are keen on him.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Why would we offer him 280K a week? There's a reason people think Man Utd are overpaying for players right now.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Its so odd though he loves horses.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nevergonnacrackthecode7:55 pm, April 07, 2015

    Lallana
    Joe Allen
    Lambert
    Lovren

    prove me right

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lovren isn't English. Neither is Allen for that matter, but a bit closer.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Nevergonnacrackthecode7:56 pm, April 07, 2015

    We would have won league

    yes won the league

    with him

    the difference is 80m

it would ahve been worth paying him whatever he wants

    ReplyDelete
  45. Chelsea sell rejetcs?

Mata a reject? Lukaku? Bertrand? Ba? De Bruyne? Schürrle?

These are all players that surely would have improved us? But best thing about it all is they replaced all these players with others with the same quality or better.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Don't you spot the difference? of course not.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Nevergonnacrackthecode7:57 pm, April 07, 2015

    I meant pl based players
    from small teams

    you may see

a 40m bid for Saido Mane

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm not sure you understand how these things work...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Let them have him!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nevergonnacrackthecode7:58 pm, April 07, 2015

Mata was not getting a game

    Hazard,Oscar,Willian
    was Mourinhos first 3
    de Bruyne played 2 games

they are rejects if they cannot get into they team

    ReplyDelete
  51. I highly doubt Sanchez had any interest in LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  52. he thinks Scotland is England. Obviously not met JK.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Well, Johnson can't be Brazilian - he's not tidy enough in the box...ba-dum-ch.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well, Allen is Welsh, but yeah ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:00 pm, April 07, 2015

Money talks look at city and psg even monocco

    if he could earn double
he would play at west ham or even newcastle

why would any sane person reject what you could earn in 4 years at arsenal compared 2 years at liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  56. So... you're saying the solution is to only buy from big teams in foreign leagues?

Look, I want a marquee name as much as anyone, but that's nuts. Hazard was a big name player at a relatively smaller team before he moved. So was Neymar. So was Bale (comparing Real to Spurs). Buying the really good players from smaller teams (like, say Carvalho, or perhaps Lacazette) is more effective than taking Big Team rejects.

    ReplyDelete
  57. From what I understand it was purely down to Location. London > Liverpool. Paris and Monaco are hugely popular destinations for celebs and normal people alike. If you had to choose between Monaco and a maybe a slightly larger club, I'd still go with Monaco if they could guarantee success (which they proved the could to an extent).

    ReplyDelete
  58. Or maybe there was no place for them.

Give me Mata over Lallana any day of the week.

De Bruyne over Markovic any day of the week.

Schürrle over Lambert any day of the week.

Hell, I would take Lukaku who I am not a masssive fan of over Balotelli.

Every single player I have mentioned will improve LFC. How can they be rejects?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Horse tranquilisers maybe

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm sure your prefer winning the title and sinking the club along the way....

    ReplyDelete
  61. Are you sure? I thought I saw him on the field vs. Germany...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Mate, Sanchez called Wenger a world renowned manager.

Wonder what he would have had to say about Brendan who?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:07 pm, April 07, 2015

    since when is lyon small?

they won more leagues then Liverpool in last ten years

    ReplyDelete
  64. Mmm... no it doesn't. Logical fallacy.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:08 pm, April 07, 2015

    Success also brings money

    more tv money
    more shirt sale
    more cl money
    More lucrative sponsors

it is a 2 way street

    ReplyDelete
  66. By Gibson, do you mean Darren Gibson - the Everton player who used to play for Man Utd.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Logical fallacy? don't tell me he's English

Liverpools manager does not really need a name

    same as Barca,Bayern,Real Madrid

    ReplyDelete
  70. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:10 pm, April 07, 2015

    wow you are sniping

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sporting Lisbon and Lyon are pretty big clubs in Europe my friend and have pretty vast histories. Also, buying big team rejects has been actually pretty profitable for us in the past - we signed Sturridge and Coutinho from pretty big clubs

    ReplyDelete
  72. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:12 pm, April 07, 2015

yes but for chelseas standards they are rejects

    for chelsea they are rejects
    for us they are MVPS

same as Rooney for Real Madrid he is just another player
for man u he is the closest thing to god

    Standards mate

    ReplyDelete
  73. Nah Seriously, what if we do got trapped into FFP?

    ReplyDelete
  74. No, he meant the Championship player from recent articles I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:14 pm, April 07, 2015

    Like City did ?
What is the worse that happen?

    a 50m fine
okay that is 15m more then Carroll

and three players less in the cl squad

And romor has it City will spend upwards of 200m this summer to replace their old players

we might not have money like city but they showed ffp is pretty leniant

there would be no big sanctions because lfc would take it to court and win

    ReplyDelete
  76. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:15 pm, April 07, 2015

    ffp
    is smoke in mirrors

    ReplyDelete
  77. What?

Just because Alonso was sold by Rafa does not make him a reject. The fact that Rafa felt he needed to replace Alonso with Gareth Barry is for another discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Do we have 200mn?
I mean for a club like City a 50 m fine is okay. For us it means 2 transfer windows without finances.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Nail hit on the head.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:18 pm, April 07, 2015

Alonso was a player Rafa thought would not help him

same as Mata was a palyer that Mourinho thought would not improve the team

while Torres and Suarze play went through him
    they were the team

chelsea are selling players they dont need
while fsg are selling players taht are the team

    see teh differnce?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Hey, stop trying to do JK's job for him

    ReplyDelete
  82. They don't have names?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Barry is a palyer Rafa though was a suitable replacement for Alonso.

Suarez got himself banned how many times to speed up his exit out of Anfield?

Torres handed in a transfer request and we made Chelsea pay us for a player who has failed miserable after he left and was pants in his last season with us too.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Barry is a palyer Rafa though was a suitable replacement for Alonso.

Suarez got himself banned how many times to speed up his exit out of Anfield?

    ReplyDelete
  85. That makes Sterling's nationality

    JaCaAfBrSAAf?

    ReplyDelete
  86. FSG will pay top wages to the right players i.e. Sanchez if we had signed him.

We need a figure who can pull top players otherwise we have no chance of signing top players.

    ReplyDelete
  87. As a LUFC supporter, I'd say 10 million was a bargain. He's Paul Reaney plus goals.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Wow that takes me back

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yes, but compared to Real or Barca? That was more of my point. If we could get them, that's good business.

    ReplyDelete
