Legend blasts: £26m Liverpool star 'lost it completely' at Hull and 'didn't beat anyone'

After tonight's wretched defeat at Hull, the knives are well and truly out for Brendan Rodgers, and whilst he deserves all the (constructive) criticism coming his way, the bulk of the recrimination should be reserved for Liverpool's grossly overpaid and over-entitled players. Raheem Sterling, in particular, deserves to be thoroughly lambasted for doing his late-season disappearing act, and his fatal lack of impact over the last couple of months makes a mockery of his ongoing attempt to shamelessly fleece the club.

Summarising the game for the BBC, Arsenal legend Pat Nevin perfectly summed up Sterling's non-performance tonight:

"Well done to Dawson, Chester and McShane - the three of them got close [to] Sterling from the start. He started to think it was not his day and lost confidence. He didn't beat anyone and lost it completely. That's good defending".

I've argued this season that the pressure to consistently produce should not be placed on the shoulders of young players like £26m-rated Sterling, and as a general rule, I absolutely believe that.

However, when a young player becomes consumed by rampaging egotism, and displays a grossly inflated sense of self-worth, the rules of game inevitably change.

In Sterling's case, the honeymoon ended when he rejected a £100k-a-week contract (which he publicly admitted), and then proceeded to hold the club to ransom with his money-grubbing salary demands.

At that point, expectations changed, and Sterling needed prove that he's worth the ridiculous pay-rise he's trying to extort out of the club. If you're going to talk the talk then you better be able to walk the walk.

Well, the clear fact is this: Sterling is not worth £100k-a-week, and his abject failure to consistently contribute during the most important part of the season is ample proof of that. Some facts:

* Only 2 goals in the last 15 games (1 in the last 12)

* Only 1 assist in the last 10 games.

* Only 3 assists in the last 20 games.

* 17 games without a goal between Sep 20th and December 17th.

In what twisted, aberrant universe is this worth £150k-a-week? When the going got tough, Sterling went AWOL, and Liverpool have suffered as a result. He has abjectly failed to step-up over the last couple of months (and at various other times during the season), and the end result is a season to forget for the Reds.

Sterling is by no means the only player to blame for Liverpool's current demise, but in my view, the most selfishly entitled players always deserve the lion's share of criticism, and in Sterling's case, and Sterling has brought this on himself with his corrosive transition from promising young player to rapacious mercenary.

Forget sacking Rodgers; Sterling deserves to be dumped on the Anfield scrapheap before Liverpool's beleaguered boss, who - transfer negligence and managerial deficiencies aside - is a thoroughly decent man, who represents LFC with great dignity and humility.

In my view, Liverpool will miss Rodgers a lot more than Sterling. Despite his weaknesses, Rodgers is building something for the future at Anfield; Sterling is only it for himself, and will only deign to honour Liverpool with his continued presence if the price is right.

As for the game: defeat in such an important, must-win game is inexcusable, and Rodgers only has himself to blame for continually making the same mistakes over and over again.

  1. With our recent results what are we to expect against QPR? The rest of our matches? Very sad what is happening, but I hope it can be fixed.

If Sterling can fix his attitude (if he does have one) then by all means let him stay. He can develop into something great, and wouldn't want him near other english teams.

  2. The sooner Sterling gets a boot up his backside the sooner things will get back on track.

If he can see that he's not the center of the show all the time, that we can still win without him, his ego will (hopefully) go back in check.

  3. If someones willing to pay the rate for Sterling then I couldn't care less if he went. The impact he has on a game is only when ever he can be arsed and that's few and far between. He does not deserve the stupid pay packet he is trying to hold out for as he has not done anywhere near enough to warrant it. Don't get me wrong he has talent but that's all it is at the moment I could think of many more players that we could buy with the money we could get for him that would contribute more goals and assists. He has got far to big for his boots with the likes of Ibe, Ojo and Jerome Sinclair we have players who could fill the void left.

  4. I said it last week...no striker...no goals. It's that simple and other teams have figured it out. We have not one player on the offensive end that an opposing team has to worry about. Sterling is not a striker and playing him in the position doesn't make it so.

  5. Why is Pat Nevin an ARSENAL legend? He played for Chelsea!

Sterling will never be great in my opinion he has far too many technical flaws. The fact he already has more caps than Matt Le Tissier tells you something about the modern game and how we are now pinning our hopes on players who wouldn't be mentioned 15 years ago.

Rodgers is potentially a good coach BUT he like Mourniho needs, demands AND requires big money AND BIG NAME PLAYERS to make a winning side. The only sides to win the league with a 4-3-3 formation are City and Chelsea who threw endless amounts of cash on star studded names. Arsenal are also a shadow of their former greatness since switching from 4-4-2. The premier league is unforgiving. Only big money will buy a front three who are powerful, quick, mentally strong, creative and physically up to the endeavours of an English season. This 4-3-3 cannot function without BIG NAME PLAYERS, especially in England. We need to switch to 4-4-2 and we need to do it now. The premier league is all about goals and to a large extent tactics are secondary. If Rodgers doesnt put his dreams of being Barcelona coach to one side and find a way of fielding two strikers then he wont be at LFC for too much longer. Rodgers is potentially a good coach and sounds confident he'll be with us next season but personally I don't like the man and he's dogmatic ways. I'm hoping he has to wheel that dossier out in the not too distant future.

the problem is Sterling is a poor winger and an average no.10. He is pretty much Micheal Owen without the finish,

  8. Sterling has not improved much at all since last season i think sell him while he still carries the potential tag because sooner or later everyone is going to wake up he is not the next superstar of football not even close.

  9. How is Nevin's considered observation of the defensive job performed by the Hull players even close to 'blasts'? Such a pity to see misleading tabloid headlines popping up more and more often on here. This article is little more than an excuse to fabricate the truth based on what the media has told us. What if he signs a contract lower than 100k at the end of the season? Will he be lambasted for being greedy then?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sterling played his best football last Year at the top of the diamond midfield. Had tons of space ahead of him to run towards goal with Suarez causing all kinds of havoc to defenses.
He is not a good winger , wingback or even a lone striker all positions Rodgers has played him this Season

    ReplyDelete
  11. He is not even in the same world as Owen he was a fantastic player in his early days.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Jerry said it right: with Suarez causing all kinds of havoc to defenses. We have no one who causes havoc any more. OK, Sterling is going through a bad patch, but who is really performing to LFC standards? No one. And I include the management too!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Whilst I do agree that Sterling needs to up his game if he does expect more money (which is speculation, there is no tangible proof to say he is holding out for this £150k), he is now one of our highest profile players and thus will be double or triple marked and be less effective. Even experienced strikers/wingers/midfielders can be completely taken out of a game when correctly man-marked by a couple of big defenders and he is that guy who is getting targeted. It's up to the rest of the team to take advantage of the extra player and make it count, keep the opposition honest.
We have two players capable of scaring opposition, Coutinho and Sterling. In almost all of our games, Sterling has played on the wing or up front (RWB on occasion, but lets focus on the attacking pozzys). In the attacking spots, he is almost always double marked by a full back and a centreback, which limits him in a big way, whereas Coutinho has a bit more freedom to roam around and lose his markers. Look at Newcastle, when Cou was played as the falso nueve, he had license to drop deep or play off the shoulder and kept the defense guessing, whereas it seems when Raheem plays up front, he is always off the shoulder, which severely limits his game. I dont know exactly where I'm going with this, it's more of an observation...
In summary, dont fire Brendan, give Sterling a bit of a break, Coutinho is boss, Ibe and Hendo need to sign, Can should play in midfield, looking forward to Flano coming back, Depay would be a good buy and I miss Suarez (that goal vs Getafe.... ermegerd).
    Peace, YNWA

  14. I heard some where Ibe and Hendo had signed as far as Sterling goes well he seems to give it his best i think he is a fair bit over rated at the moment.

  15. I know things may look a bit grim at the moment but i cant help but smile when i think about Bournemouth what a story.
The club was near administration and in league 2 in 2009 and have gotten into the premier league for the first time in 116 years.
The smallest club to make the premier league and only 11000 seats at their ground.
Definitely my second team in the EPL next season i wish them every bit of luck and hope maybe we can take something from it in the way they have battled their way up.

  16. B R has to go - he played Balotteli AGAIN - FSG have a massive problem = all the lads were saying last night that with season tickets increasing next year and the greed of Sterling etc THANKS BUT NO THANKS

    ReplyDelete
  17. B R should be banned from talking altogether - he puts his foot in it every time - WAKE UP FSG

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sterling should not play again

    ReplyDelete
  19. FSG sacked the manager who won the world series with the sox after god knows how long so I'm pretty sure after this they are considering their options. Back to normal Brenno. No more bleeched teeth, no more golddigger gf.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Maybe he played very poorly?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hendo has signed and a few interviews on the subject

    ReplyDelete
  22. Very over the top from you Jaimie. Sterling and Coutinho have been our best players this season by a country mile. You quickly forget that the same sterling carried the team in the first half of the season...and at pittance wages and at such a young age. I have never heard you say dump Steven Gerrard to the scrap heap despite his legs having gone a long time ago and he has been a useless passenger all season. What of Hendo, Joe Allen, Lovren, Ballo and all the other dross brought in by Rodgers? These are not the quality of players that will take Liverpool to the giddy heights that we fans crave. You saw it yourselves the gulf in quality when we faced Madrid, it was pathetic. Rodgers was totally out of his depth. He could not even turn over Besiktas in Europa. So to suggest he is building for the future is a cruel joke. The fact is he is a useless mid table manager. Let him go to West Ham etc and do his building there. I am sick of the sight of BR!. He is totally unable to attract any marquee signing and that is a fact. So why would FSG trust him with any more cash? I say lets talk seriously to Kloppy. There are other tried and tested managers out there who can bring us some quality players that will help us mount a serious challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Coutinho-Mignolet-Skerts have been excellent most games, ok they had their bad games also, but they give it their all every game, I would delete them from criticism.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sterling was shocking and has been since his contract saga BUT not as bad as Ballotelli .
clearly Stearling is following in Balo's footsteps to self destruction .

    ReplyDelete
  25. While I agree with you that Sterling should be reprimanded to do it before the end of the season is completely wrong. Sterling will most probably leave in summer and any kind of reprimand could prompt him to buy out the last year of his contract. Should he dnot decide to buy out, the club would have a much better bargaining position in the market for Sterling. Although I do not expect they would get 50M for him (the price tag they apparently slapped on him), anything in the range of 35-40 M could be fairly possible. On the other hand, if he decides to buy out his last year (he can easily do that since in a new club he will earn the same amount within 3-4 months), LFC will not get anything more than lousy 20M, maybe even less. To reprimand Sterling now, however he deserves it, could not be more wrong.

  26. Failure to replace Saurez's goals, Balotelli lone striker, over £200mill spent with very little return. These are things that rank hire in terms of reason ls for failure than Sterling's loss of form. This season we've scapegoated Balotelli & Sterling. Balotelli is not Saurez so why at this stage we don't try to play to his strengths is beyond me. Let's just try playing him with a partner. Sterling is not Houdini, so back off the young man who has been here there and everywhere this season because of Rodgers ineptitude in the transfer market. #buckstopswithrodgers

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have always thought Sterling was overrated, he may become a brilliant footballer some time in the future but now he is what he is, very much like all the players Rodgers and the transfer committee bought, mediocre in most instances and just because we paid over the top rate for them does not make them suddenly become brilliant footballers. In a way its not right for us to criticise them...they are what they are and an inflated ego does not not translate into a good footballer (nor Manager!!!)

I personally believe that Rodgers and Co should be held accountable, he has had three years and spite of spending millions we mediocre at best and now I am hearing the rubbish talk again ...still believes he is the best Manager, still talking about trophies, still talking about CL, still talking about buying quality over quantity....sorry I don't buy a word of it. I believe he should be fired even if it does take us two years to recover from the shambles he has left behind....just my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Totally agree!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kop should make it clear to Sterling that he is letting everyone down

    ReplyDelete
  30. It is easy to take a swipe at Sterling for 'loss of form'.

Sterling is our top scorer this season and he is not even a striker? It is expected of him to pull of a Suarez while £117m was spent on players who have not even made a measurable impact this season!

Easy to blame a 20 year old for LFC's failings in front of goal this season.

Time is up Mr. Brendan Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Spot-on. Add to that the fact that Rodgers continues to play the expensive, ineffectual and inflexible Balotelli and you have a disaster waiting to happen

    ReplyDelete
  32. I understand RS isn't delivering at the expected level, but the other side of the story is, in a team game, probably he, Coutinho & Sakho are only 3 younger/new players who can keep their head high. May be, he has lost heart from constant criticism or under performance from team. He is just about a kid, already taking massive burden of nonperformance/injury to most of BR's high valued purchases - may be struggling for breath at the tail end of the long season. I don't like his antics regarding contract extension (or ransoming the team), but there are at least half a dozen BR purchase, who should be questioned first - starting from the "born-again Cruyff nut-meg" Lallana.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Rodgers building something for the future at Anfield. Hilarious. A manager who has won nothing and persists with the same hopeless tactics match after match. That means either he knows nothing about football or he is as stubborn as a mule. Either way he should get the boot. Arguably the poorest manager the club has ever had, I'd say It is also painfully clear that several LFC players don't want to be at the club and no decent player will be attracted to a ship that is not so much sinking but thoroughly sunk. Keep Rodgers and face bottom six.

    ReplyDelete
  34. He is nowhere near a great player and never will be. His game is full of flaws and his attitude stinks.

    ReplyDelete
  35. And apparently there are no better options available?

I would even take Tony Pulis right now. At least he will not be praising his team after poor performances, draws or losses.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Because when they played the Chelsea fans wished he was on the other team.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I fear whats gonna happen in the chelsea match. 4-0 loss?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am disgusted by Ian Ayre's handling of transfers. He takes 2 months to lodge a bid and a month to negoatiate, then he haggles over 2 million

    ReplyDelete
  39. The hostility towards Sterling isn't generated from his poor form alone, it stems from his ridiculous wage demands, which has made it hard to take him seriously, nor genuinely.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sterling admitted he turned down a £100k a week offer and he said it was not because of money.

In that interview he spoke about CL football etc.

There will be other clubs who can offer him £100k a week and guarantee him CL and trophies every season.

Would you rather sign for a club at £100k who cannot offer any guarantee of success or sign for a club at £100k a week + CL + trophies?

Rodgers created this media frenzy about Sterling's contract situation with his verbal diarrhea "Raheem offered an incredible contract' and it was blown out of proportion.

Sterling is going to win f all in LFC's current situation. Let's see what happens at the end of the season.

  41. I have no doubts that BR is a decent person and I am still not sure that I want to join the BR out campaign. Even though last night I was baffled by his selection and placements of the team, GJ as left back (even though I thought he put a good performance in) MB as lone striker, RS as winger, EC as right back, LM right back (sub). I think BR just can't help himself when tinkering with the team, whether it's an ego thing or he genuinely thinks this is what is best for the team, either way with the formation he played and the out of position players it was always going to be a recipe for disaster. The most annoying aspect of these decisions is that BR has tried all this many times before and I cannot fathom why he expected a different outcome this time. BR prides himself on being a tactician but for me last night he did appear berift of any ideas or solutions to breaking down Hull. Furthermore his statement after the game that all the players will be 'playing for their Liverpool futures' was priceless. Having wrote all this I still beleive BR has still something to offer to LFC, I think that the transfer committee has to be scrapped and also think that FSG has to hire a very seasoned press/pr person to advise BR to dilute these annoying self aggrandising and embarrassing press conferences (Brendanisms).

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ok, so we are going to get rid of our scouting system consisting of Barry Hunter, Dave Fallows (who came from Man City and would have helped them sign the likes of Silva and Aguero etc) and Michael Edwards - members that are part of our transfer committee which Rodgers is part of, replace the scouts and bring in new scouts?

Rodgers is going to do all his own scouting, go watch players on a regular basis and all the other nitty gritties that comes along with it?

Rodgers is the one who needs to go.

    ReplyDelete
  43. What is most frustrating for me is this... our performances have dipped alarmingly since the blackburn game at Anfield and BR has still not managed to fix it. how many games is that with embarrasing results? To me it just seems like he does not have any idea how to get out of this slump and is always waiting for something to happen, a piece of brilliance from coutinho or something i dont know.. but his persistence with the same mistakes just makes me realise that he does not have another plan... and is figuring things out as he goes along!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Blind Freddy could have scouted Aguero and Silva Nasri etc that does not make you a great scout.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Agreed on that. Im yet to see who else besides Coutinho, was scouted by these"scouts" for liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ah yes, Rodgers is absolved!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Nothing to do with Rodgers seriously what unknowns or lesser knowns have they dug up who are now top players that is what makes a scout.
What serious eye does it take when you have pockets like City had.

    ReplyDelete
  48. B R will WASTE any transfer money he is given - PAY HIM OFF WITH £8 million = Sell 10 players including all our strikers and lets seewhat the Bournemouth manager or Klopp can do - Any man who plays Balotelli should be BOOTED out TODAY

    ReplyDelete
  49. Look at who arrived at the club before these scouts were introduced

    Borini, Allen, Assaidi.

    ReplyDelete
  50. So these guys just sat on their bums and were paid for it?

I want to sign up for a job at City!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Made a profit on Assaidi.

    ReplyDelete
  52. He was a poor signing.

    ReplyDelete
  53. People moan about paying twenty quid to see two superstars plus a great card in Vegas Saturday night and yet willingly pay fifty quid to watch the shower we witnessed again last night Get real BOYS

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yep they probably did but there is no room for you at City all the bludgers want a job there.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Irrespective if we had to get rid our our current scouting system it will need to be replaced.

Rodgers is going to do all his own scouting ain't he?

Then Rodgers will still not be blamed for the players he approves of from the new scouting system? Right?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Triangular peg in a trapezoid hole? (Sorry, there's a ban on the overused, traditional version of this idiom).

    ReplyDelete
  57. Replacement is your speciality surely you have other scouts lined up.
These ones are too busy eating pies and pervin on women to notice whats going on!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Of course they are.

Lovren, Lallana and Lambert? Rodgers obviously had no clue who these players were. He did not aprove of them. How much scouting was required with these players?

    ReplyDelete
  59. A lot more than was required with Silva Nasri Aguero Yaya etc

    ReplyDelete
  60. Of course! Like I said, Rodgers had no clue who these players were!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well sack the scouts bad bad naughty scouts.

    ReplyDelete
  62. And Rodgers walks away after approving of these players.

Good luck to the new scouts then!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Well i will put in for job as scout as it doesnt seem you have to have much success.

    ReplyDelete
  64. You will take the blame for Rodgers I suppose ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ok its all my fault then blame me if it makes you feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  66. You are the scout, I am Brendan Rodgers.

You will take the blame for me. I, Brendan Rodgers am not at fault.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ok just make sure the rest of me contracts in the bank by the morning i'm holidaying some where else!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. But which player that arrived after them can be considered a success? I disagree with you a bit on Assaidi. I feel he was just never given a chance by Rogers. Probably because he was bought for him rather than by him a la Mario Balotelli

    ReplyDelete
  69. He will end up like Aron lenon put your bet now

    ReplyDelete
  70. BR said after the game that the players 'Gave their all ' ( less we forget against a 5th from bottom side ..... )
That for me says it ALL !

    ReplyDelete
  71. Even James Pearce from the Echo has finally broken his love for Rodgers by saying "Buck stops with the manager"

  72. *

You will take the blame for me. I, Brendan Rodgers am not at fault.

  73. Loges you obviously follow the blogs along the way did you see the article where Dalglish reckons there will be a lot of changes next season but Rodgers isnt 1 of them.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Kenny Dalglish was backed by FSG when Comolli was sacked and end of the season Kenny was shown the door too.

Many were/are backing Rodgers, and of those have now changed their tune.

FSG will have the final say. Dalglish experienced this first hand.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Well Kenny would have some inside knowledge you would think.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I thought th were so many people calling to pay sterling whatever he wants? I doubt if he deserves the one he's currently earning .Fsg should decline any awaiting offer and push out... Let him go where his heart is

    ReplyDelete
  77. 'Arguably the poorest manager the club has ever had'? Ridiculous.

2nd in the league last year, a whisker off the title, having played some of the best football the PL has ever seen? Having nearly replicated last years incredible unbeaten run this year, with a team full of new, young players and no striker to speak of? Having endured criticism for his defensive naivety to put together Liverpool's best run of away game clean-sheets in decades? Whose win record to 50 games matches Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan, bettered only be Dalglish and Shankly.

I'm not blind to Rodger's shortcomings as a manager, but what you're saying is laughably ill-judged.

    ReplyDelete
  78. JK - Completely agree with the majority of what you say. However, two points:

    1. As you correctly have identified, Sterling's contribution to the team has not be great of late. Hence it is BR's responsibility to bench him. Why did he not do so?

As an example Fergy would have given a player in his situation the hair dryer treatment and then left him out in the cold as you suggest until he mended his ways.

    2. You state that BR " (transfer negligence and managerial deficiencies aside) is a
thoroughly decent man, who represents LFC with great dignity and
    humility."

I take great umbrage to this statement for many reasons.

    (i) A manager has by definition two things he can do to impact the way a side plays, namely buy better players and decide (coach) the style of play (tactics). You have correctly identified he has not done well in these two areas. So unless he's a magician, by default you have suggested BR has failed as his job.

(ii) How has BR represented LFC with dignity and humility? When he shows no respect to the fans with his hyperbole even after playing not so well, or having won nothing in his career (let alone with LFC) making the claim he is the best?

I know the fan base may become polarised on the issue of whether we should keep BR or let him go. But I would hope, and at least expect, we should be able to reasonably agree on the few things BR has done well, and the majority of things that he has done badly.

    ReplyDelete
  79. From that logic Ronaldo and Messi would go 15 games without scoring. Pointless!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Better still, keep him to his current contract of 4 years. If he wants to perform he can play for the 1st team, otherwise he's still eligible for the youth team ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  81. It really does not matter what Dalglish says at this point. It is not like he is going to say anything else is he?

    He has given an opinion

"Personally I don't see their being too many changes," the Reds legend explained."

    ReplyDelete
  82. Similar slump at the start of the year.

But amazingly some fans only remember the 13 game streak of a season made up of 38 games..

    ReplyDelete
  83. Please allow me to turn the table.

As a disenchanted BR supporter, please try to convince me of the merits of keeping BR..?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Lallana has been the biggest disappointment of the season...BR has created so much hype around his name last season as if he would change LFCs fortunes overnight.

More than Sterling these guys are to be blamed along with the BR

    ReplyDelete
  85. I wish for one moment we could take the emotion out of the debate, and actually discuss the pros and cons of BR's 3 year tenure..

If possible I would like for you to provide strong reasons for retaining BR, as the points you have made above could be easily argued against..

    ReplyDelete
  86. Klopp beat Bayern yesterday. BR will never achieve that let wining a trophy. We beat citeh it's only down to their poor form, he got tactical found out against relegation teams

    ReplyDelete
  87. Alas even with the EPL cash windfall, they may struggle at the end of a 38 game season.

    But kudos to Bournemouth..

    ReplyDelete
  88. I hope Fsg has already contacted this man.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Rodgers complaining about losing 50 goals? Why has he not made better use of Lambert or Borini who are both strikers? Instead rely on a 20 year old who is still developing his game and ain't even a striker to get the goals?

Just shows the unfair treatment Sterling is receiving.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Ok even if BR gives the final go-ahead? Does he watch matches in Spain, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay etc to scout and uncover talent? I bet his scouts and himself too, only fly as far as St Marys to scout Southampton players

    ReplyDelete
  91. If Rodgers did not go have a look at the players he agreed to or even not watched footage of them before we signed them then we have a manager who should not have been involved any transfer decision in the first place!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Why did City let them go?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Another worry for me is - we always used to come out and play a better second half in matches presumably after a strategy and pep talk from the manager ....... However it now seems that this is not the case which makes me think Rodgers has lost his motivational skills or worse still the players , like it seems a large proportion of fans , have lost confidence in him !

    ReplyDelete
  94. I can't bare myself to watch it. But I will and then come back to you and unfortunately agree.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yes thats definatly something we could offer. No one has really taken 'centre stage' for us bar maybe Coutinho at stages so the oppirtunity is there for him and for us.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Well lets hope that he looks at it that way as right now we are terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Klopp won the DFB-Poka last night. He now has 4 major trophies to his name.

This is not a sign of a young manager that does not even know what style of football he wants to play after 3 seasons.

    Klopp > Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  98. If it is a done deal(and it seems that it might be), does that mean that Rodgers is getting another year? Would the club bring a new player before the new manager?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Can't see where I advocated getting rid of our scouting system, if you were not so blinded by your Brendanphobia you would be able to read posts clearly!

    ReplyDelete
  100. If FSG do sack BR and we get Klopp, I will be super enthusiastic about our chances of doing well, BUT if they keep BR I will also feel the same. I still think BR merits another season, I can certainly understand the opposing point of view.
Klopp has not done that well this season though and please don't assume it's guaranteed he would excel in the premier league, history shows that a string of successive, highly thought of managers, brought to the club have not done as well as was expected.
Only last season BR came the closest to winning the premier league and although this season has been a real disappointment, I do not feel that it is entirely his fault and it does not sit right with me that he should be shown the door.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Exactly and says about those believing it.

    ReplyDelete
  102. The irony is brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Just Google translated and got "nails look at low tide" which may as well be Dutch for as much h as I understand it.

    ReplyDelete
  104. "It really doesn't matter what Dalglish says at this point"

Because you don't like/agree with what he said.

If Kenny said that he thinks Rodgers would be gone or even his job could be on the line, you'd be parading it around here.

    ReplyDelete
  105. But one of those was the lad who's official page it was. You know the difference right?

    ReplyDelete
  106. It's not done mate. Far from it.

    ReplyDelete
  107. It would still be KD's opinion.

I may as well say that Greg would disagree with Dalglish his opinion was that Rodgers was going.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Nope not at all he is in there he knows more than me.

    ReplyDelete
  109. We had no European interruptions last season.

    ReplyDelete
  110. But you do not believe Rodgers is going to be sacked?

So if Dalglish had a different opinion would you do to?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Theycallmemrburt1:49 pm, April 29, 2015

I didnt explain my self properly. I meant in terms of his best performances occurring when he plays on the last man. His game is all abut getting in behind.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Considering it was only the semi-final of the DFB-Pokal last night, then how has he won it? Once again, making stuff up as you go along (e.g., yesterday saying Gerrard should have played AM in semi-final against Villa, when he did just that (horribly) in the first half).

    ReplyDelete
  113. Logan - will you promise to leave this website if Rodgers does stay in charge?

Rodgers deserves a lot of flak, and I would prefer to start again, than wait another season until he eventually leaves next season. But I don't think he will go this summer. He'll be given one more season.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Once again, you missed the point.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I never said Gerrard should play AM vs Villa. You are the one making things up. Paste the link and we can all go have alook at what I said.

Klopp will have a 4th major trophy to his name. Deal with it.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Mate, I have been on here for ages. Going back to when Rafa was still in charge.

    Spare me please.

    ReplyDelete
  117. My biggest concern is that the locker room "dust-up" from last month is reverberating.

Someone brought it up the other day (admittedly, I can't remember who), and I wonder if that was true, and if so, how does Rodgers recover from that?

It's one thing to lose a game or a few. It's another to lose the team.

    ReplyDelete
  118. No I did not. You said I would agree with KD if he came out and said Rodgers was going.

KD has given an opinion. I was merely trying to make a point that Dalglish would not have said it differently.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Me, if memory serves me correct.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Quite a likely explanation of what's going on, the solution, bye bye to some of the players this summer.
Looked to me like Coutinho, Hendo, Lallana and others were trying pretty hard still (granted not altogether effectively)

Could definitely be a split in the teams support for BR, much as there is in the fan base.

    ReplyDelete
  121. You dismissed his opinion because it didn't fit your point of view.

But if his opinion did fit your point of view, you'd be parading it around here. That's my point.

Like I said, Kenny had even HINTED that Rodgers' job was on the line, you'd be using it as evidence to support your case.

Example: "Rodgers' has struggled over the past several weeks and it is imperative for them to finish strong to give the owners confidence going into next season". (Or something along those lines).

But because he didn't, his opinion is pooh-poohed.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Here is your quote: "Steven Gerrard as a DM in the FA Cup semi final when it has never worked?"

You are implying that it's Rodgers fault for playing him in the wrong position. But Rodgers didn't initially start him at DM - Gerrard was given the first half as AM but was so invisible that Rodgers moved him back 'out of the way' in the second half. Admittingly, we all know Rodgers should have had the guts to sub Gerrard off at half-time instead. Yes, we agree that Rodgers has many faults but revelling in it, like you do, is another matter.

    ReplyDelete
  123. It may very well have been. And it's a valid point that you brought up to at least wonder about.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I know Klopp may win the cup (though he will likely have to beat a good Wolfsburg team in the final) but simply saying he has won his 4th trophy to support your argument (in the hope people will believe you that it was the final last night) simply sums you up.

    ReplyDelete
  125. It does not matter what Dalglish says. I did not say he is talking shite.

I am making a point that he would not have said anything different.

LFC Non-executive director tells the world Rodgers is going? I do not think so.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Do you do anything else except spend all day on this website? Lunch-time is over. Go back to class.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Sums what up? I am pretty sure most would have known it was the semi final.

There is nothing wrong with me saying that Klopp has earned himself another trophy.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Jaimie, and you go on about me?

    ReplyDelete
  129. "(e.g., yesterday saying Gerrard should have played AM in semi-final against Villa, when he did just that (horribly) in the first half)."

So where did I say should have played Gerrard as an AM?

    Making things up eh?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Ok, fair enough.

    ReplyDelete
  131. "I think that the transfer committee has to be scrapped"

That is what you said ain't it?

    ReplyDelete
  132. I agree. I believe the competition still brings experience and a certain level of mental programing which is akin to CL. Remember, our strategy is to buy young. Young players stand to gain experience in Europe as it exposes the team to continental tactics. I still believe we are built to handle the extra midweek game. Just need to have a very good window and continue to refine the squad. Damn, I miss what LS brought to the team. And, I don't mean just his name on the score sheet. Unpredictable movement and mentality to win at all costs is what influence he had on all around him. Our attacking dynamic is simply too predictable. We need some game changes. Toothless at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  133. So if you think Rodgers should not play Gerrard in DM, and you have now implied that Gerrard should not play AM, then where should Gerrard play? There is nowhere else for him to play? I stated all last season that Gerrard at DM was a terrible idea but it was overlooked as we were winning games - not a coincidence hat as soon as Gerrard played DM, we were shipping goals at an alarming rate, with only SAS bailing us out each game.

So if you are saying that he should be on the bench, then I agree with you. But when you're insulting Rodgers for playing him at DM, provide a solution for what you would do with Gerrard.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I do not mention Gerrard and AM anywhere.

You need to go read what I have written again.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Another solution could possibly be a team motivational speech from Stevie accompanied by piped in Genesis tracks. That would definitely have some sort of affect, effect? affect, never sure on that one.

  136. lfc only hopes. Buy Pedro Rodriguez for £25M, make him our striker and captain for next season. he has won everything in football and will lead us to glory, players like sterling will know there place if they see the movement of Pedro ahead of them, even though Sterling MUST be sold this summer for his disgraceful attitude and poor performance combined. Hendo will remain vice captain. we need a player that can lift the dressing room and the club. not a Depay, even though he is a young worldie, im talking Pedro. he will be our new leader on the pitch and will demand where players should move like Suarez did. Pedro is a very good but has greedy instincts in him and im sure he would love to finally be the main man. buying him at this age in his prime, we could get 100 goals from pedro in 3 years.

from there its a must we buy a robust leading midfielder in the world. Geoffrey Kondogbia will join but only if we buy top players along with him. we need to splash out £100M at once and bring in stars so they can all have a massive welcome at Anfield and press conference. Kondogbia will cost £20M but he will be worth it. just like the £24M Chelsea paid for Matic was worth it. we were linked to Matic and could have made the move, but never. he is world class.

buy Memphis Depay for £25M. a natural proven left winger. this one looks wrapped up but theres no point in just buying Depay and thinking we've won the title. we have to build a team of galacticos and if we get Depay, Kondogbia and Pedro, we'll still need a right back, and a proven natural right winger.

Andriy Yarmolenko. i believe this guy is a top class player, never injured despite playing all games his whole career, strong and quick as lightining, strong character and a real fighter. we cant have weak minded players, they have to be willing to fight for the cause. Yarmolenko will cost £15M but he is a player we need as he is left footed, can up front but is a natural right winger at many levels including Champions League, Europa League, international level and Ukraine league.

Ryan Bertrand is a winner. he won the champions league with Chelsea and will finish above Liverpool this season with his team southampton. we can do with him at right back, and his experience helps. but also Serge Aurier can be our right back, or both, and play Bertrand left back like he does at Southampton but if we get in the forwards we need, we definately need to sort out those full back positions. i would like to see Sakho play left back for LFC. something tells me, he is our left back fr years to come and thats why he cost so much. his passing vision is amazing. and he got good tackling. for an attacking team, thats a full back needs, and Sakho could be LFCs left back.

so, Pedro rodriguez £25M - ST/RW - 27 years old - £150K wages, statement to rivals, replace Gerrard wage
    - Memphis Depay - £25M - LW - 21 years old - £90K wages - replace Balotelli wages
    - Andriy Yarmolenko - £15M - RW - 25 years old - £60K wage
    - Geoffrey Kondogbia - £20M - DM - 22 years old - £100K wage, offered sterling the same,
    - Serge Aurier - £10M - RB - 23 years old - £40K wage
    total: £95M

sell sterling £40M, sell borini £10M, sell lambert £3M, sell allen £10M. sell balotelli £10M total: £73M

    ---------------------------------Mingolet
    Aurier-----------------Can---------------Skrtel-------------Sakho
    ----------------------Hendo-----------Kondogbia
    ---Yarmolenko--------------Coutinho-------------Depay
    ----------------------------------Pedro

subs Ibe, Sturridge(if fit), Origi, Lallana, Markovic

we said we need goals, we that front 3 this season has 97 goals/assists this year. we need to pay up and challenge

    ReplyDelete
  137. Well if someone who works at a job working deep within the club says so then of course you do realize Dalglish would be on hard ground if he said it and it didnt happen.

  138. DEFINITION of 'Non-Executive Director'

A member of a company's board of directors who is not part of the executive team. A non-executive director (NED) typically does not engage in the day-to-day management of the organization, but is involved in policy making and planning exercises. In addition, non-executive directors' responsibilities include the monitoring of the executive directors, and to act in the interest of any stakeholders. Also called external director, independent director and outside director.

  139. The kid is pretty laughable at the moment. Demanding 150k, he is seriously out of his goddamn mind. He's not even worth 100k on current form. He is in for a serious reality check when contract negotiations come up next.

    ReplyDelete
  140. It means you're attributing too much value to something meaningless. Back in the day when ships were made out of wood it was important that repairs were done with screws rather than nails because nails can pop out under pressure. So it could happen that a ships owner would have the ship lifted out of the water to double check that screws were used rather than nails. Which is quite an effort to make just to check something. End of Dutch lesson :-)

  141. Sterling should move to a more professional club, liverpool / rogers are ruining his great potential.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Anything with Phil Collins involved would surely do the trick.

Possibly even propel us to Champions League Glory this season

    ReplyDelete
  143. Important lessons for lfc re: Sterling
    1. You buy tripe expect mediocre and or potential young guns to bargain as high as possible. A quality squad let's young guns know their place, sort of like an unspoken hierarchy.

    2. Negotiate contracts in a timely fashion, not midseason, preferably not after a garbage season, but after a successful campaign in the league or cup.

    3. Keep things in house, media manipulation could back fire.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Thank you. I appreciate it.

    ReplyDelete
  145. He said in the interview that he would turn down 180k a week if it was offered and that it's not about the money. I think he wants to learn from top players and doesn't think he is getting that here. He is not demanding 180k a week. Sign some big name players in summer and he will sign the contract...

    ReplyDelete
  146. In my opinion, there's are a few merits:

    1. We are in 5th which is respectable. It's not like we're toiling down in 12th.
    2. There is a level of continuity to continue building a roster.
    3. In my opinion, there isn't a better manager realistically available.

Now I say that with a grain of salt. For instance, if Klopp is willing to come here, he's an upgrade and we should seriously consider him to replace Brendan.

Also, I think there needs to be someone else in charge of building the roster. Brendan & the transfer committee have simply wasted too much money and we can't afford it.

I also think Logan has a valid point from the perspective of: Putting last season aside, this might be as high as we'll go with Rodgers in charge.

So I see both sides of the coin. But if Klopp doesn't want to come here, we should stick with Brendan for another year.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I'd now offer him 50k.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I would go to 100k with incentives & add ons which could net him 150k but he has to earn it!

    ReplyDelete
  149. To be fair to BR, I don't think there was one person in the ground that day who 1) Thought we were going to lose at kick-off and 2) Would have set the team more defensively in BR's shoes.

Everyone was riding the high of finally winning the title and, sadly, we all lost light that it was more important to not lose than to win that day

  154. I'd forget that.

He played hardball and his performances suffered, as did the team's performances overall.

He lost a significant amount of leverage in my view.

His only remaining hope is that another team would swoop in to gin up his market value, which I didn't think would happen when he was playing well... let alone now.

I agree on the Sterling part. He should go. In fact, he should be rotting in the reserves since he rejected that 100k offer. Period.

BR has to go too. A manager who said his biggest game of his career is winning the play-off final with Swansea, on the eve of a FA Cup semi-final, shows the level of mentality and mediocrity of a manager he is and is not befitting Liverpool Football Club. He should be sacked in that instant for spewing that biggest game crap. BR has lost all my respect and he still dare to say he is the best man for Liverpool in response to the Klopp rumours.

  164. Whilst the totally agree the Balottelli saga hasn't worked out I think at least half the blame for that should be given to BR.Balottelli has only been played in his favoured position once which was on his debut against spurs & he looked promising along side Sturridge.his attitude & effort since has been poor at best but then its not surprising.would you of expected any better if he was playing centre back.at that price it was a gamble worth taking.& we will probably never know if he'd been used to his strengths it may of worked out so differently.makes you wonder why we got him though.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Simple if you ask me.offer Sterling a new contract worth £50.000 a week with great bonuses for performance related achievements.if he wants to wear the badge & earn his money week in week out he will sign it.if not sell him asap to the highest foreign bidder i.e. Madrid, Bayern.he can sit on their bench watching his career disappear in to obscurity earning his £150.000 a week for the duration of that 4-5 year contract.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I am just reluctant to see Sterling leave if we are just going to spend that 30-40m on 3 more ''English Stars'' and have absolutely nothing happen from the exchange, except lose a MAYBE potential star.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Nah to be honest I agree.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Rodgers won NOTHING last year. Perhaps you missed that. Coming close counts for nothing. Suarez nearly won the league, not Rodgers. No strikers, eh? Now whose fault is that? Oh yes, it's Rodgers' fault. The man who brought Balo, Lame Bert and Markavic to the club and has another ho-hoper, Origi, waiting in the wings. As for the glorious run you mention - do me a favour! They beat - very narowly - some dreadful sides by the odd goal. When was the last time they won a match convincingly? The football they have played this year has been utterly rancid. Why don't you wait till Rodgers wins somehting before you big him up? You'll have a hell of a long wait.

    ReplyDelete
  173. No I'm sorry, there was at least one. Me.
If they parked the bus, we should have done the same and eventually they would have had to take the game to us as they needed to win and we only needed a draw.
Then we could counterattack a fairly slow back 4

    ReplyDelete
  174. Rafa hadn't won anything for what, 4 or 5 years. We were 8th, with NGog as our main striker. Closest he got to the PL was no closer than BR. He's great at cup runs though. 1 CL and 1 FA Cup. Most sustained?

  190. Tried to reply with this, but the moderators got him.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're genuine. Why refer to black players ad home boys then expect to be taken seriously? You superimpose a stereotype on a whole group of people which is discriminatory behaviour.
When Michael Owen left to go to Madrid was the conclusion that all white players are greedy mercenaries? Take Neil Ruddock, can we conclude that all white players are undisciplined with their diets & neanderthals? My point is you can't pick one player & assume every black player is the same especially when it comes to negative behaviour. Taking your logic we should have MORE black players because of the example of John Barnes! Moral of the story , treat everyman as an individual & judge him by the content of his character not the colour of his skin. Hope this helps!

I think 40+m and it would be wise to let him (Sterling) go. The only thing he has going for him really is his relationship with couts, which might convince couts to stay. The last couple of games his decision making has been truly terrible, even Ibe makes matter decisions than him.

I do like what I saw yesterday though, but it's still not enough. Rickie has been a great example to the young lads on positioning and readiness to run, just that he doesn't have the legs anymore. The last few games i rarely see strikers on the shoulders, ready to beat the off side trap (Mario especially seriously lacks this instinct.) But because they don't have multiple people waiting to spring this trap, there's no tactical sense of drawing a few defenders away so others will be through. As a result also, Gerard's passing abilities are under-utilised.

That's why I think Origi's arrival will be quite important and if Depay does make the move, I think we will be a huge improvement from this season, though the addition of so many people worries me too.
