'Welcome to Liverpool': €35m goal-machine indirectly confirms transfer to Anfield. Done Deal soon?

The Memphis Depay saga continues! On Monday, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers hailed Depay as a 'very talented' player, and the coveted PSV Eindhoven star has now dropped a massive hint about his future destination.

€35m-rated Depay reportedly has a preference for Liverpool over Manchester United, but is he likely to sign for the Reds this summer?

Quite possibly.

On Facebook today, a Liverpool fans posted a 'Welcome to Liverpool' message on Depay's official page, and the 21-year old attacker 'liked' the post:

Liverpool Memphis Depay transfer

Liverpool Memphis Depay transfer

Why would Depay like the 'Welcome to Liverpool' post if he's not on his way to Anfield?

  1. Really Jamie o_O? I expected better than these @indykaila stuff.

  2. Hope he didn't watch tonight's game before deciding....

  3. Can you do an article on where you believe it's all going wrong this season and what you think we need to do in the summer? Now that the season is unofficially over we need a postmortem

    ReplyDelete
  4. More chance of Brendon Rodgers going out than Memphis Depay coming in,given another not so sterling (pardon the pun !!)performance in our limp loss to another relegation threatened side.Quite frankly,at this rate,we wont even make the Europa League, let alone 5th place...utter bullocks, the players should hang their heads in shame and donate a weeks wages to the Nepal relief fund,as they don`t deserve being (over)paid at the moment !!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Sterling was awful tonight, certainly does not deserve 180k a week!

Got a feeling we are going to finish behind both Tottenham and Southampton.

BR may be sacked this season.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'd rather we finish outside of Europe altogether. If we can sign real quality this summer then maybe we can replicate the last last season playing one game a week

    ReplyDelete
  7. Not sure I'd miss the Europa League....

    ReplyDelete
  8. If he is, he will forever wonder why he didn't settle for a bore draw against Chelsea..

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes forget Europe and try and get ourselves sorted for next season, and how about dropping the players who are not going to be there next season and play the youngsters for the remaining games in there place to let them gain experience.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Definitely. Play Can in midfield and see if he has the chops. Blood a few youngsters who will appreciate the step up and work harder to improve.
7th will do just fine now CL is out of the question

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think it's almost a certainty, come to Anfield next season, stay fit for more than three games in a row and score a few goals, - do this and the world is your oyster, don't do this and you are guaranteed to still be an outstanding world class talent, what's not to like.
There's method to BR's madness and we will get the players we need for global domination, naysayers be prepared for egg on face.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes play can in midfield where he belongs, He seemed to be in midfield more last night than in defense So it now seems that we are back where we started 3 seasons ago.,

  13. remind me of the player who followed people related to liverpool on twitter and ended up playing at Chelsea, i'd like to see him come but i'd wait before getting my hope up and being disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Missed the game and heard the result late. I was shocked and really disappointed to put it mildly. How the fu.k did we lose against dull?! I can't imagine Depay watching us struggle and thinking "that's the place for me"

  15. according to media he's been impressed by talks with higher up, maybe impressed by what is happening behind the door at Liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  16. I know what you mean, tonight was not a very good sales pitch but some players may want to be assured of centre stage at a good club and we can perhaps offer him that more than our fellow suitors, even if he only views us as a springboard.

  17. Why is finishing 6 th and qualifying for the Europa Cup next year any form of achievement ? Were done for now. Let's call it things for what they are. Horrible Season , terrible transfer acquisitions and a manager who had lost all methods of trying to get his teams tactically ready and motivated.

Need a complete fresh start this Summer

    ReplyDelete
  18. today just shows why the past 3 seasons ive called for BR to be sacked. excuses upon excuses. the reason why we can never wn a run of games is because we have no options. why do we have no options even though we spent £220M? Rodgers. rodgers bought players like Lallana(25m), Allen(15m), Markovic(20m), Lovren(20m) and there not even playing. this is not football manager. the amount of money wasted by Rodgers is actually digusting and a disgrace to LFC football club.

he was extremely lucky to get the LFC job in the first place. Suarez was at the club before he came. the addition of a few world class players then would have kept him here, and even if he'd left there'd be other worldies here. he had two summers to convince worldies like Suarez LFC was the place for them. he 'begged' and 'prioritised' the Borini and Allen signings his first summer. barbaric. our squad never improved whatsover. after realising his failings, as he always says, next we will target world class players. to be fair, he bought Sturridge and Coutinho, but these were not world class signings, we paid 20m(price of markovic) for both and they turnt out good. the next summer he bought Aspas, Alberto, Moses, Ilori. our club never improved whatsover, the players that were already there like Suarez, performed, Sturridge and Coutinho also, but they were signed in January after Rodgers poor summer business the first year. then he spends £120M and targets Lambert, Lallana, MArkovic, Lovren, Moreno, MAnquillo, Balotelli. not one world class player. but yet he makes bold decisions and sells our good youngsters like Suso to swap for useless wasteful markovic and swapping Joe Allen for Jonjo shelvey who has twice the ability and potential.

If BR stays at the club, we will get worst and worst. his transfer record is poor, VERY poor. wasteful at its highest level and his achievements last season cant be congratulated. the football was beautiful but the players performing were already at LFC. he was brought in to improve LFC and he has made us worst and made us lose the quality players we had like Suarez, Shelvey and Suso. he never improved with top quality where needed and we are finished under his management.

if you lose a game, you cant consistently tell the players they did their best. that for me is a insult to LFC fans. the players have lost respect for this soft manager. when they lose your meant to hear 'THE PLAYERS HAVE EMBARRASED ME AND THE CLUB AND WE WANT TO APOLOGISE TO THE FANS FOR HAVING TO WATCH THAT BARBARIC SHOWING, NEXT GAME I PROMISE WE WILL FIGHT HARD TO WIN'. .thats what a manager should say.

i believe we have given Brendan Rodgers the best oppurtunity he could have imagined. if we told Mourinho we would give him £220M over 3 seasons he would sign up. Klopp would to. and so would any top manager. even Martinez. i doubt he would have made the barbaric signings BR has made and even if we never sustained a title challenge, we would probably be a better club with more confidence knowing he would buy quality players to play alongside our average ones.

BR has had some terrible results this year, Basel loss, Villa at home, Palace away, Newcastle away, Ludogrets draw, 2-2 draw at home with leicster despite being 2-0 up, going down 1-0 to basel at home despite needing a win to qualify from easy group, Besiktas loss in Europa league, 0-0 with hull at home, loss to hull away, 0-0 with sunderland at home, 3-1 loss to west ham, losing to chelsea at home despite leading 1-0, 0-0 draw with West brom. home and away losses to United. 4-1 loss to arsenal. ...... what kind of motivater is this? what kind of manager is this?

that is apauling and his time is definately up, im sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Souness, Evans, Houllier, Benitez, Woy, King Kenny, and now BR, could it be possible that changing manager isn't the way forward and instead changing the structure around them until we get it right - in particular regarding transfers and wages is the answer.
Not a dig Kopite S, just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Good post, I had to go get more popcorn to finish it, A lot of harsh truths. I thought for sure we would win this game. I have been a mild supporter of Rodgers but lately each game just has me wishing we had a "more experienced" manager.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am sure, BR is not going to stay.

After today's display, I don't see any point giving BR money to buy his player. We should save every penny for the next Manager & give him time as well. In other words, appoint him by May, without making much noise & ask him to fix his target/budget (as well as off-loading list).

Off course I believe, Deapey 'll not join LFC if BR remains Manager, why should he?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I understand your concern, but it is simply not true that he has made us worse. he may well end up going, but that doesn't negate the fact that compared to when he arrived, we have scored more points, had higher finishes and both more goals and better goal differences .
Not giving credit for last year is quite poor imo. Suarez wasn't scoring 30+ goals or anything like it for us before last year, and Sturridge too had got nowhere near 20 a seson. He gave a 17 yr old Sterling consistent 1st team experience and both bought and developed Hendo and Coutinho
I understand if you want him out, but give credit where credit's due.
Compare the two squads before and after BR and tell me if you'd like to swap..

    ReplyDelete
  23. I stooped reading Kopites post after the 3rd line, when he stated in 3 years we have never been able to win a run of games, why read further if the facts are he is inventing stories.
BR is in a precarious position after tonights game,
but inventing stats to bolster your argument is dishonest.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Especially since we were top of the form table in 2015 until recently

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thats just this season,
he stated 3 seasons, despite the results showing some of the best successive wins for years.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Johnny add to that the longest run of clean sheets on the road for decades.....

    ReplyDelete
  27. We were so crap today and as some people have mentioned some of the players should be embarrassed of their showing... like i play football and if my team played like that, i know i would be embarrassed, gutted, restless, annoyed ( Btw im talking equivalent of my sat league team lol)

But it's so easy to say Rogers out and Klopp in. i like klopp but What if Klopp doesn't come then who would you choose? not many options out there in my opinion.

We have made progress under Rogers- we finished second last season, we were strong favorites to finish top 4 this season- that's partly because of the way we were playing under Rogers. For me some of the football we have played under rogers has been unbelievable and great to watch. until 3-4 weeks ago (or even less) we were talking top 3

i know he has made some bad decisions and his transfers on the whole have been crap and i hate his tv interviews but we have def progressed under him. the few years before rogers were tough and we were never close to champions league

im not saying i love Rogers, im just saying he deserves one more season :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hope Depay comes and show the likes of "found-out" Sterling what is expected of a very good footballer. Sterling is currently on the wages he deserves.

    ReplyDelete
  29. would really be a shame if Brendan went...

I really have enjoyed watching LFC play our brand of football reminiscent of yesteryear...exciting attacking and an attitude to match....

he reinstated the sign above the stairs to pitch and said to the players....

we are Liverpool fc and dont let anyone forget it.....

its been a long time since anyone apart from one year with kenny since anyone reminded our players of that...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well, for starters Depay could see this as a chance to strike it big. We clearly need someone to spark our offense. It's very possible that his self confidence is to the point that he sees himself as our "savior."

If he saves us and makes it big, and we become successful, then all is well. If he makes it big, but we still flounder, he'll hop off to Madrid in a few years a la Suarez. Either way, in his eyes, he still makes it big no matter what. There is no downside for him.

Going off to Utd won't give him that option. He'll be just another name on a list of Rooney, Di Maria, Mata, etc etc.

    ReplyDelete
  31. One hundred percent agree...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anyone can do what he did -
Utd- £60m for Di Maria to get less goals/assists than vilified Sterling
£32m for Shaw RVP (27m) not playing etc etc

    ReplyDelete
  33. wait what happened to my post?

    ReplyDelete
  34. 10m for Falcoa for one season.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Really? £35k per week?
Best attacking stats (goals/assists/chances created) in the squad
So what do the other attackers deserve?

    ReplyDelete
  36. While I'd be sad to see Brendan go, he was always going to be the transition manager for me, the guy who set things right, then handed it off to someone more capable.

It's clear where is strengths are. He's pretty darn good at man management in terms of locker room, and has the gusto to try things out of the box. He knows what he wants and won't stop until he fails miserably or finds great success. This is great for a team looking to right the boat as we were a few seasons ago, but we're okay now. We need someone with the tactical nous and an established philosophy to get us rising again.

I can't help but get the impression that BR simply doesn't know what to do. It's not that he's necessarily a bad manager, it's just that he's never been in this situation before, and it shows by his transfers and in game decisions. He simply lacks the experience at the top level, and unfortunately we're at a point where we don't have room for mistakes.

BR's situation is certainly a complicated one, and all things considered, I really don't know what the right decision is.

    ReplyDelete
  37. IMO BR needed a better, more experienced no 2. Someone like Hoddle for instance.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Have you checked the carpet beneath the letterbox, ???

    ReplyDelete
  39. I hear you Not You but I'm of the impression that BR has the foundations of being very very good in very near future; granted he's fu**** a few things up but we don't really know the ins and outs..

Do you remember when rafa said he had choice 1 and 2 players on a list but had to accept choice 3-4 players instead...?

i wonder if BR has the same issue and with him being labelled by many on here as a yes man..which I don't know either way cos I wasn't there... but I wonder if anything is that the rael issue at stake here...?

The fact that to transition from what you say he is - a transition manager - naive and slightly inexperienced - I wonder if his one greatest evolution will be the word no...I'm not working with that player he's cr** and won't fit my style..., or, no..., I need that 28 year old he is polished and will fit right in....

If he evolves quick-like you reckon he could become an 'incarnation' of a successful manager for us..?

..I think and hope he can....really....

    ReplyDelete
  40. You'll be watching that pending for ages and then.....puuff....a sign saying 'dynamo was 'ere'......

    ReplyDelete
  41. hahaha i just checked- it's not there. just a blank piece of paper which i assume is Borini's highlight video from this season

Jamie did you delete it?- i know it was off topic a little but in line with conversations about rogers out etc.And it was me trying be positive about this season

    ReplyDelete
  42. I dont think it works that way t360...

pay checks premier league and the chance to become a hero all play a part.....

    ReplyDelete
  43. We still need perspective in this.
    Utd's squad cost £401m
    Chelsea's £348m
    City's £341m
Ours cost £245m .Even after last year's £120m spend
We still have a way to go. £100m -£150m MORE THAN THEY SPEND just to catch up
    Makes you think doesn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  44. haha i was actually staring at the pending message.

Bloody dynamo- if i see him i will tell him paul daniels was the original :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well working on that theory the other attackers deserve an orange at half time and a pint of lager.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes I thought we would fair worse than we have, without SAS.
If BR is let go it will cost 20m/25m to buy out his contract and install a better Manager, that would certainly be taken into consideration I'm sure.
If he does go, I will remember him as a positive in our history.

    ReplyDelete
  47. We were really ordinary the Hull game.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Exactly- i mean i am not saying i love rogers but we definitely have progressed under him esp when compare to the few years before him.

We finished second last season- were strong favs to finish top 4 this season and until 3-4 weeks ago (maybe less) we were talking about top 3. He has made bad decisions and his transfer have been awful but we have progressed and for me played some really good stuff under rogers. I have enjoyed watching us under him (obv there are exceptions to this)

i think he deserves one more season- saying rogers out is too easy and what happens if Klopp doesn't come in who do we get??

    ReplyDelete
  49. People who criticise the likes of Sterling for not being worth the money seem to forget the fact that he's still learning his game, and while he may get regular football, does he have established professionals from which he can learn and improve his game? Or will he be pressured into performing and lambasted by fickle fans for not being as good as the hype and hoopla makes him out to be? In much the same way that relegation forces a club to reprioritise, finishing outside of the European places affords us the chance to develop the players we have. The argument that we can't attract top talent because we're not in the Champions League is rubbish. Sturridge, Coutinho, even going back to Hyypia, did they sign for us because we were the best team in England?

    ReplyDelete
  50. We know that such sentiment will be called 'accepting mediocrity' by some short sighted fans, but in truth, every team has to undergo a period outside of the spotlight if they are to reestablish themselves. It is only this recent trend of super rich sugar daddies funding the purchase of new players for ludicrous fees that has produced this notion of unnatural halcyon days. The cycle of rise and fall is not something to be ashamed of, and with judicious and shrewd management the club will rise stronger.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Apparently de Boer is included in the deal :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. De Boer and Depay work for different clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  53. He is coming so get depay into de bank.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Spijkers op laag water zoeken they call this in Holland JK :-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. If you are still LEARNING then be grateful when you are offered 100p/w and NOT demand 180p/w .

    ReplyDelete
  56. It has to be ,
800m spent on players in the last 25 years and nothing has improved !

    ReplyDelete
  57. Balo nil
    Borini nil
    Lambert nil
    Sturridge 150p/w .

    ReplyDelete
  58. LOL i wish!!! I really do!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I didn't say MU; even so, don't you think that playing in CL, playing for LVG or playing along with Rooney, Di Maria, Mata (albeit from bench) gives him better chance to move to Real, Barca, CFC or Bayern than playing in EPL mid table, for Brendan Rogers or playing along with Adam Lallana. Or, for that matter, if he reaches to that level, why should he leave MU at first place, Giggs played there for entire career, Beckham, CR, Cantona, RVN, Rooney, RVP played there often for best part of their career.

If you think that Luis Suarez is the player today for playing under BR, than I think, you are giving him a bit unworthy respect - not many of his Reading or Swansea prodigies ended in top half sides (EPL that is I am talking, not Championship), unless of course he brought them to LFC at double price...

    ReplyDelete
  60. No the ain't gonna sack that muppet

    ReplyDelete
  61. Waiting for Ross Bauer's response

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sorry to be a pedant but its 'Rodgers' , its a pet hate of mine.

Anyway i agree with the sentiment in your post. He should definitely get another season, this year we missed world class Suarez and our current main striker has been out basically all season. Balotelli in my opinion was always seen as a gamble which nobody at the club thought so much would hinge on it working, he was seen as somebody who come on and make an impact if needed on occasions when Sturridge was out or to partner Sturridge in certain games. Unfortunately so much rested on Sturridge being fit it badly backfired.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hundred pence a week? Even I make more than that. Slightly.

    ReplyDelete
  64. That's fine. Not many of us think he should be earning so much more but there is a huge difference between not ageeing with his dwmands and actively criticising and insulting one of our own players. No one of our better players.

    ReplyDelete
  65. We have a significantly better squad than we did 3 years ago. Lots of deadwood though, although I can't really remember a time we didn't have lots of deadwood.
For whatever reason, our squad is fractured at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Let's hope the club have learned lessons from those terrible situations and the hubris that led to them.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's not an achievement, it is underachieving. But not by as miuch as we would like.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Where has this 180k figure come from? You're the second person I've seen reference it

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yes but what of that money was recouped? O don't mean from a final standpoint but from a squad standpoint. For instance we spent 55 million on Carroll and Downing but neither are at the club. I would say our player turnover is higher than a lot of the club's we want to compete with and our spending is probably not much higher if at all.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I have sympathy to anyone coming into this Liverpool team. Rodgers seem to mismanage everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  71. For the last 3 seasons? I don't remember you leading a 'sack the manager' campaign last season. Pretty sure you just jumped on the bandwagon this year

    ReplyDelete
  72. I stopped after one

    ReplyDelete
  73. There is definitely logic their.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Not if he is playing less no. I think a Suarez trajectory would look better to me if that was my long term plan.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Lots of his Swansea players are in top half side. At Swansea.

    ReplyDelete
  76. So Sturridge who has played less than half our games deserves more than four times what Sterling is on now?

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think, I used the word "ended in".........

    ReplyDelete
  78. Right so we have to wait until the end of their careers?

    ReplyDelete
  79. God you didn't bother reading that whole post did you?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Very true. He's probably thinking 'If Di Maria can't get a game...'

    ReplyDelete
  81. your just dum. i said in 3 years BR has no options. why we cant win a run of games is because we have no options, because of poor transfer dealings. i said we should sack because of excuses, not because we cant win a run of games in 3 years you wallad.

and even then, that run of 10 out of 13, was due to Suarez, who was at the club before Brendan came.

BR should be sacked for wasting money on poor transfers, being too soft and not slating the players when they played poor and overpraise

    ReplyDelete
  82. exactly. leave him Jay Jay, hes a fool to the BR excuses. the REAL LFC fans understand my pain and its nothing but the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Pfft. Says it all...

    ReplyDelete
  84. God no, just down to the bit where he said he'd been calling for Rodgers to be sacked for 3 seasons

    ReplyDelete
  85. Maybe he just thought the post was funny? But while we're at it. Just noticed you can't select Coutinho from the list of players whose name you can get on the back of your new NB home jersey. I take it Phil will be leaving us then.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Agree 110%

    ReplyDelete
  87. be fuckin great if we missed europa league. shite competition no1 wants to be in. if ur not in CL ur not in europe in my eyes and would rather see us miss that and have no travel midweek like last year

    ReplyDelete
  88. There was 52 likes at the time . That's s lot of people coming to Liverpool. Depay won't be one of them though , trust me

    ReplyDelete
  89. The club owners need to sack rodgers if they want progress of the club, and after spending 116m last transfer without good result and performance

    ReplyDelete
  90. I know you didn't say Man Utd, but who else is really interested?

Suarez became the player he is today through his natural talent and drive, not BR. You're right about that. However, even though LFC are in a slump as a club for the past couple seasons, we've done enough to keep our name as a top side. A low performing one, but a big name none the less.

If Depay sees himself as someone who could become the "next Suarez" per say, his ideal move will be all about exposure. Playing on a team where he'll be the star from the moment he steps on the field will give him more opportunities than going to a club where he'll be second string. He won't be coming to the club necessarily for our coaching... It's all about where he's going to be 3 years from now.

There's also the aspect of learning from other players. Salah, Shaqiri, among others have made moves to bigger clubs and wasted time on the bench when they could've become something special if they had played somewhere else and waited for the big move.

Of course, the usual wages, contract, manager, locker room, ect ect have an effect too, which is why the decision for Depay won't be an easy one.

Now, I'm not saying we're likely to get him, or even that he'll want to come to us anyway. I'm just saying we have more going for us than people give us credit for.
