Game Over: Rodgers to dump 'poor' €6m Liverpool star after one season

Since January 1st, Javier Manquillo has played just 137 minutes of football for Liverpool, which roughly equates to a measly 1.5 games in four-and-a-half months. Clearly, the writing is on the wall, and new reports suggest that the Reds are preparing to scrap the €6m-rated full-back after just one season.

According top the Daily Mail on Monday evening:

"Right-back Javi Manquillo is set to return to Spain after failing to make an impact [at Liverpool]"

It's been clear for months that Brendan Rodgers doesn't really rate Manquillo, so this news comes as absolutely no surprise.

These days, the Spaniard - labelled as 'poor' by Jamie Redknapp earlier in the season' - rarely makes the match-day squad, let alone the first team, so cutting short his two-year loan spell seems to make sense.

It's clear that Manquillo paid the price for Liverpool's 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in November. Prior to that game, he was basically a regular, but he's barely had a look-in since, which is a shame as he is (statistically) one of Liverpool's most solid defenders.

That notwithstanding, the main reason for Manquillo's extended absence from the team appears to be utilisation of the 343 formation. Unfortunately, he doesn't offer much going forward, so playing him as a right wing-back is a non-starter, especially when there are infinitely preferable options in the squad.

I still maintain, however, that Manquillo could've done a great job on the right-side of a back three. Can is performing well there, but if Manquillo had been given a run of 20+ straight games in that role, I'm sure he would've done the business, too.

Financially, Liverpool will not lose out on the Manquillo deal, but it's yet another transfer failure attributable to Rodgers, whose record of signing Spanish players is, quite frankly, atrocious.

  1. It's a shame, like you said, that it didn't turn out, he seemed to be a decent pickup and one that could grow into either the RCB or RB role, even fill at Wingback. We had better be in the market for a very good right back in the window, with Johnson going and Flano coming off the back of a big injury.
I just hope it's not Rodgers saying "well Markovic/Henderson/Sterling/Ibe/Can is the solution to the RB/RWB problem...

  2. We already have Flanagan and Wisdom plus Johnson etc = of course he should go. There is NO CHAIRMAN AT LIVERPOOL F C = Totally useless at P R = All we get is L F C quiet on Sterling -- LFC Quiet on Henderson deal - SACK THE CHAIRMAN

  8. I think the difference is that Coutinho has been at a club like Inter where he did not play and was used out of position alot when he did get any game time. He knows the feeling of sitting on the bench and not being able to play the sport he loves. It is this that makes him realise that being at a club like Liverpool where he gets game time, is loved by the fans and a key member of the first team is a privilege. The same can be said for Sturridge who as never first choice for his previous clubs. Henderson will also understand the importance of being a first team regular after having to fight hard to stay at Liverpool and force his way into the first eleven when it looked like he was heading for the exit door.

Unfortunately Sterling does not have those experiences of being sat on bench and getting no game time. From an early age Sterling has been getting games and has been seen as a star of the future both at, in his mind he cannot imagine a situation where he will not be first choice for a club. This is understandable as he is a young man and can only go from his own experiences. As much as i want the lad to stay if he does decide he wants to leave so be it, the club will pocket alot of money so will get some reward of getting him to the level he is currently at. If he does move on then that is his choice and i will wish him well and thank him for playing a part in one the most enjoyable premier league seasons in recent memory when we went so close. He may find that grass is not greener but it is his choice if he needs to find out for himself.

  9. manquillo always ruins attacks and we cant afford that at Liverpool. just imagine if Markovic had the confidence to stick that ball Coutinho gave him against Arsenal. waste of attack. we learned the hard way because for £20m he should be putting that away, we would have been 1-0 up. instead we lost 4-1. Markovic got caught in 2 minds and chose the easier option to pass, but if he was focused on passing he would have made it, but the pass put him THROUGH on goal, so he thought to shoot.

Manquillo always puts in wild crosses to no target, likewise Moreno. we cant afford players that waste attacks or with no end product

  10. Konoplyanka - self confessed LFC fan. free transfer, no brainer. good friend of his, Yarmolenko, on fire every season, this season 15 goals/19 assists, big, strong, skillful and quick. no brainer. £20M. Kondogbia, 22, international with france, played at highest level in La liga with sevilla and monaco in ligue 1 and destroyed arsenal at emirates with his work rate and quality. perfect defensive mid patrick viera-esque. and big and tall, what we need. no brainer. Luciano Vietto, next Aguero and already banging goals. £13M release clause? no brainer.

sell sterling £50M? no brainer. he has no end product and is a support player. he is a very good support player, but when he thinks hes the 'main man' which hes not, hes not so good because his end product poor. but when he plays for the team, like when Suarez was here, he knew his place and was a good support player. if he went to a big team he will also know his place and also be a good support player. but at LFC hes too greedy and often chooses not to pass and his end product gets him nowhere. if we buy Konoplyanaka and Yarmolenko it will show how overrated sterling was and how much he wont be missed.

we only rely on Sterling so much for his pace and trickery. his end product is poor and if we got Yarmolenko, players capable of long shots, placed or power, free-kicks and pace and trickery along with regular consistent end product, then Sterling will be support or bench warmer for them.

  11. If you cant see what a good player Henderson is you might as well just give up watching football as you don't understand it all.

  12. To my understanding the logic was that BR could not guarantee game time for Wisdom who was at the point in his career at the beginning of the season that he needs to prove his skills at the EPL level. Lack of game time at LFC could have seriously harmed Wisdom's development. Therefore, he needed to be loaned out and evidently he has proved himself at WBA.

Loaning Wisdom out left us naturally thin on FBs and a sensible thing was to loan another player to fill that gap. If the loanee (Manquillo) would have been exceptional, he would have earned a contract; if not, he will be treated merely as a cover which has evidently happened. However, with a real prospect that Johnson and Enrique will not be around for the next season and Flanagan's fitness seems to be still a mystery, I could see a point of really considering Manquillo acquisition for the next season.

  13. sell the bugger, get in klopp, buy reus. :)

  14. my team for next season fingers-crossed if we get our recruitment right

    -------------------------------------Mingolet
    Aurier------------------Skrtel------------------Sakho------------Flannagan
    ------------------------Can/Hendo-----------Kongdogbia
    ----Yarmolenko---------------------Coutinho------------------Konoplyanka
    ------------------------------------------Vietto

subs on Dybala for Vietto, Ibe for Konoplyanka etc

this team will be good enough to win us the title. its obvious to win a title you need a player like Matic or Yaya Toure in midfield. we cant get Pogba but for me Kondogbia is a better natural defensive midfielder than Pogba, and also has alot more experience. Kondogbia is a quality midfielder who will give players ahead of him license to freedom on pitch as he so solid. Konoplyanka can have Hazard impact, as he natural left winger and knows the role well, good at drifting in and getting assists and solo wondergoals. and incredibly pacey. Yarmolenko very tall and incredibly pacey. he better Right winger than willian. when Willian was in ukraine, he could never get the statistics Yarmolenko has consistently for 7 seasons. with 15 goals/19 assists this year, we've targeted them both now its time to unleash Yarmolenko and Konoplyanka on the wings. Coutinho is on par with Oscar, if not potentially better, and Vietto scores as much as Costa and will get us the goals and assists. Kondogbia will be our Matic. Hendo will be our Fabregas. Aurier Ivanovic. Skrtel is our Terry and Sakho will be Cahill. Flannagan will be Azpilicueta as the Inverted Left back. he did that well last year and almost won us the title. next year we will win it with this team.

  15. Wait, there's no chairman but we should sack the chairman...?
    Because....Logic?
    And
why on Earth would they publicise everything about the contracts? Why
do you or I need to know how the negotiations are going?
With Sterling, nothing is happening until end of season, and both the club and player have made that very clear.
With Hendo, BR clearly stated to all that they are working on it, he has no worries about negotiations and it is widely reported that it should be all done in the next week.
Do some research before posting things like this man, it really makes you seem ignorant, not implying that you are.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Although I agree that they would all be decent pickups, do you have to post basically the same team in every thread? Yes Kono, Yarmo and Vietto would be great signings, especially for the prices. Don't know too much about the others, but by the looks of it, you have already written off Sterling and Sturridge?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't think calling yourself 'no brainer' after each statement helps your cause :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, sack the chairman, sack Sterling, sack everyone in fact! We'll be quids in!

    ReplyDelete
  19. written them off? mate we cant rely on Sturridge for a whole season. if hes fit thats a plus for us. But we have to have another recognised quality striker, 2 even, because Sturridge is always injured, FACT. and Sterling doesnt want to sign, we want him to sign but he thinks hes Suarez, the main man. we would offer him what he wants if he was Suarez, but hes obviously deluded because his end product poor. if he wants to go and someone will pay £50m bye bye sterling. Ibe if given the same game time Sterling has, will be twice the player, so why if were trying to give Sterling a chance he dont want to sign? he can go and we'll get Konoplyanka for Free and buy Yarmolenko to complement it. Ibe will rotate with Konoplyanka in left wing.

and i keep posting the post because i want the club desperately to sign these players. we need to shout for Vietto in the stadium. £13M release clause for a young elite striker. but we pay £20M for Markovic £25M for Lallana. i just want quality at the club and im trying to help. Vietto, Konoplyanka, Yarmolenko, Kondogbia and Aurier will change the clubs fortunes and help us win the title.

and you said you dont know about Kondogbia, hes a 22 year old France international, left footed quick defensive midfielder, capable of playing left back as well because he so quick, he very tall and got incredible work rate. hes also a monster in the box and has good heading accuracy. he played for Sevilla in La Liga aged 19 and after dominant performances there earned a £20M move to Monaco with the other top players they signed. since his masterstroked a Champions League win over Arsenal in the Emirates scoring the first goal and allowing his teammates the freedom to play with his hard work, pressing and long range passing. hes pure quality this kid. and people are shocked Monaco made it through the group stage topping there group and even more shocked when they beat arsenal, but people like Kondogbia crucial to this. he will be crucial to our title challenge next year if we buy him, plus he can play left back if needed and he wont allow us to be bullied no more, like we have the past 3 years under BR

    ReplyDelete
  20. The signings of EPL British and overseas talent almost anywhere is poor but in BR we trust hopefully they will disband this transfer comittee and bring in a DoF.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't think Manquillo is big enough to play in the back 3. Can has been targeted frequently by big men in teams in that position due to him being the smallest, weakest member of the back 3 and he is a big, powerful guy in his own right. I think the physical aspect of CB coupled with it being a new role would've been a step too far for Manquillo. He may have been ok but would he have done better than Can? Doubt it so he's basically got the same problem as he does with the WB role - there are more preferable options

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yea, can't see there being a problem with Flanno's contract though

    ReplyDelete
  23. Henderson has signed with the club.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Exactly. These public contract sagas have damaged our season as it is without our chairman throwing in his tuppence worth

    ReplyDelete
  25. Off topic did anyone see Sepp Blatter being compared to Jesus, Moses, Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King amongst others, by one of his supporters for his candidacy? You couldn't make it up. It's no wonder football's rotten to the core with those goons running the show

    ReplyDelete
  26. cash in on sterling if he going to play like he did in FA cup... all this focus on off field rubbish when we should have been winning the games. Mass exodus again looks like it... just bring in the damn quality... and sad to say, if it means the improvement of club, squad, player attraction, then I'd say Jurgen Klopp should also be shown the red carpet...

BR last chance to go on a ridiculous run of form and at least get close... if he does that then I'm all for the stay, but go on a slump and I have to say pull the rug...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Liverpool tried a director of football with Damien Comolli. We overpaid for donkeys like Andy Carroll, Adam and Stuart Downing. It seems like everything we try to improve the standard of player bought, ends up with money flushed down the toil3t.
Maybe FSG needs to change our transfer committee members or a Dof could work depending on how like minded he is to our manager and obviously his ability at identifying the right players with help from our scouts.
The scouts we picked up from Man City haven't impressed me.I think a change is definitely needed in that department.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I know you understand so much like BR that is why our midfield been overrun by most of the club.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If he's good he's probably playing for Barca, Real or even Chelski now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I do see your point and it was a logic that I had considered too. However I feel that this created even more turnover of our playing staff, which then creates more bedding in period. If we had only signed a couple of big players last summer this may have been a wise move ....... all easy to say in hindsight though

    ReplyDelete
  31. He sais he was very well taken care of by the club- maybe he is getting sensimilia and poor Raheem gets the scraps.. I always thought Couts will be loyal as he was saved from Inter by us, given his freedom and ultimately got his call for Brazil. Unlike him Sterling was not.. Actually, same we did for Sterling, probably even more on the personal level but he is stupid enough to think he can be a star in Munich or Madrid.. The best we can do in his situation is to get the Ukrainian guy on a free, give Rahee as much as he wants for a 2-3 years extension and sell him for 50 mill next summer. By than we will have Ibe and Konoplyanka as regulars, maybe Markovic too plus 50 mill, and he can do an Owen. Sad, as he could've been our Robben...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nope. I was gonna explain it to you, but I've changed my mind- you don't deserve it.

  35. Can't really understand your post but I will reply regardless. Henderson has been one of the few shining lights this season, he has won plaudits from ex-pros, pundits and journalists all praising the lad. He has been linked to club's such as Chelsea and Man City and you just have to look at his stats to see how much he has contibuted. None of the reasons mentioned align with your headless chicken analogy. Maybe a few seasons ago there might have been some truth in it but not now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. All of you saying sell him for 50 mill- it ain't happening unless he signs a new contract. Remember we sold Suarez for 75..

    ReplyDelete
  37. Some players can't play in the same team. Unfortunately that is the case with him and Steven. And the only thing Hendo has in common with the legend is in my opinion those long passes nobody would even attempt..

    ReplyDelete
  38. And there we were thinking his signing was no lose situation.. Now we need another RB that will cost a serious amount of money while we need to invest at least 60 mill(if we are smart and lucky) and only have players tto sell worth 25..

    ReplyDelete
  39. Shame, his defense was good but final product up front was poor and he was never really given long string of games to improve or prove his worth, but then many players this year had the same fate.....

    ReplyDelete
  40. Plus, playing for the club equals personal gain for Daniel and Couts,

    ReplyDelete
  41. It really is a joke how badly Manquillo has been treated this season. In all honesty, he was our best player in the absymal first half of the season and was always dropped in favour of useless players like GJ. And, I do not get this talk that Manquillo would not have suited 3 at the back. We played four MIDFIELDERS in that position (Sterling,Ibe,Markovic,Lallana) and apart from Ibe, no one really had that amazing attacking impact that Manquillo supposedly could not provide. We played players out of position when we had a ready made solution. If we starts playing for Atletico now, BR will have egg on his face.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Shame, his defense was good but final product up front was poor and he was never really given long string of games to improve or prove his worth, but then many players this year had the same fate.....

  46. please chip in Thomas Muller.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Agreed bro, on kondogbia and yarmolenko in the height department. We just lack a Plan B as we always get beat when we are restricted from playing from the back. I get why Balo was thrown in after half time, it's another outlet and I hope Brendan learn fast

    ReplyDelete
  48. Stirling is a clown, if we get £50mil get rid Ibe is more then capable of replacing him. Stirling isn't half the man or player Our little Brizilian is.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Even if we want to replace him, Kono is free, and Depay is 20M. Sell him for anything more than 35M honestly.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Totally agree. Sell the little twat

    ReplyDelete
  51. Not with Mings in goal.

  52. Comolli failed dismally in France before coming over and Dalglish was a lot to blame for those transfers as well.

  54. Love Emre Can as a Liverpool footballer but agree that he is being shoehorned into a position that has exposed his deficiencies as a defender. BR tried SG as the new Pirlo an now trying to prove Can as the next Carlos Alberto (some of you might remember him) BR with his experimentation, soon he will create a new Frankenstein of his own!

My argument is Rodgers bought last summer with a hefty kitty. Things haven't gone right this term but next season these same players need to bond without a mass overhaul just for the sake of consistency of personnel. Rodgers was over the moon with his squad at the start of the season and with our squad having depth and a degree of quality, I'd like to allow BR to reload the season after having a 'bedding in year'.

If money is going to go BR's way I'd rather see him sacked. He buys Spanish type players for an unforgiving Premier League. Let's not forget we still have Coates, illori, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto still on the books. Our Squad is enormous. I don't think it is beneath LFC to expect trimming in order to spend.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'll personally come to Liverpool and behead Rogers and everyone else responsable if you are right. Being poor and pacifist won't stop me..

    ReplyDelete
  65. But we would've won it, and comfortably so..

    ReplyDelete
  66. Sorry guy, Hendo is well overrated imo. Certainly not captain material. He disappears in games all too often.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Raffa's scouting was great but we don't need to move backward.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think we could use Dzeko as well.In fact a striker and a dm that can link play from defence to attack is precisely what we need.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm so sick of this solitary striker formations with false 9s and 10s. Just revert to 442 (and not the diamond) when all else fails. If players can't play in that formation, they aren't good enough. Period!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I thought Ballo would be the one to cause dressing room tension but this lil mug needs to be sold or have his wages reduced.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yup, he's probably worth a third of that. 25 seems more realistic but with a ''Fabregas'' clause, where we still make cash out of him is he's sold again. .

    ReplyDelete
  72. Get a few of the guys here,

    Let's go as a collective....;-)

    ReplyDelete
  73. He only struggles in games where he is moved out of position to accommodate Gerrard. His performances are always better when SG is not in the line up as somebody else also mentioned above. Henderson would be a huge loss if he were to leave mark my words.

Even if you think he's overrated (which I think your wrong about ;) ) he is still far from a headless chicken as called by Mr Chin above.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Let's offer them group therapy....

    ReplyDelete
  75. Fair enough. He has improved and certainly can play a role. I just don't think he's as good as most punt him to be.I don't believe we can build a team around him is what I'm saying and many are suggesting just that.

The Gerrard analogy makes sense as their roles do clash within the team and Rodgers had played him out of position rather often in fact.

We are Liverpool though and he does struggle to maintain a level. Although he can make up for an extra man with all his running. That United game was proof of that.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Apologies if it has been said before, but it needs to be noted that Sterling's background was not an easy one (as some people are suggesting), or any easier to Coutinho's relatively speaking. Read about his history to find how he lost his father (murdered in Jamaica) at a young age, and was brought up by his mother - who is his motivation. Yes, he's being "greedy" - but he's also being honest... I believe him when he says he wants to win trophies and to be challenging (see his giddy excitement at the post Man City huddle "we go again" last season). I think he's concerned with the direction of the club, and doesn't see us challenging - though he needs to realise he is part of that problem!

    ReplyDelete
  77. What right does Sterling - a comparative nobody - have to question the ambition of Liverpool FC, one of the world's greatest clubs? He should just be thankful that he gets paid stupid money to live the dream that millions across the globe would gladly do for free.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Sterling is being stupid these last few weeks and he deserves to leave. 10 years from now and he will look at this feeling guilty that the club who has nurtured him into one of the best young players and he leaves that club in this way, not on

    ReplyDelete
  79. True, he should be thankful, Jaimie. And we'd all probably pay the club for his opportunities! But club loyalty (and gratitude) isn't what it used to be for young men. He is questioning the ambition of the club as a young footballer with ambition, and as one of the club's top performers (albeit he has still underperformed). Ironically, I think if we don't make the Champions League he'll probably be gone (and we also may not attract the right level of player).

    ReplyDelete
  80. Also... To add, the situation is not helped by Rodger's talking him up all the time. And also by the club dragging their heels as usual - as with Gerrard, they would have signed if offered earlier. Something is going wrong at the club.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Not being first choice on the International scene doesn't mean whoever won't be good enough for Liverpool.Reina played second fiddle to Iker Casillas for years. Some nations just have more than one top level GK.
Spending 25-30m on a goalkeeper would likely blow about half our transfer money. Not many realistic GK targets would cost that much anyway. We should be able get an upgrade for around the 10-15 mark.David De Gea was bought for 17m.Chelsea got Courtois for 8m according to Guardian (but officially undisclosed).Spurs got Hugo Lloris for €10m with €5m add ons.
If we pushed our scouts to get off their lazy ars4s we could find our version. The Bundesliga would be a good place to start looking.Kevin Trapp, Bernd Leno, Timo Horn...

hi guys anybody fancies Pedro?I think he will be a super signing for us

    ReplyDelete
  83. Shaw has been nothing special, and cost £32m in case you forgot. Injured most of the time too- who would have played LB?

Reina was rubbish for his last 2 seasons, nowhere near golden gloves by then. Funnily enough, Mignolet is still in with a chance this year so what does that prove?

Another titbit for you. We have gained as many points in 2015 as LVG and Utd , so who exactly do you think would have done even better than that whom we could have appointed in November?

    Answers on a postcard please....

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah ive heard good things about kondogbia, i was literally saying i don't know about him, as i haven't seen him play.
You and alot have said things like 'sterling doesnt want to sign' and 'wants to be the main man like suarez' but you base these facts on heresay and rag articles. You say that these players will help us but how quick will you be to take that back if they dont have a great first season, despite being very highly rated before, like lallana, lovren, Marko etc? Lallana has done (barring injury) alot more than hendo did in his first season, so was the money wasted because of 1 season?
Im just saying that instead of passing off opinion and heresay as fact, we should just focus on what is actually happening and what is reported by reliable sources

    ReplyDelete
  85. Vidal was injured you might want to consider what happened when we signed Aqualani like that...

We've been linked to hundreds of players. But Benzema leaving a starting position at Real? You think that is likely?

    ReplyDelete
  86. So he wasn't at all responsible for our closest PL attempt so far?

I get it, he predicted Gerrad would slip cos we didn't have a good enough manager. It was BR that made him fall, not letting the ball go under his foot....

  88. Your right,I was trying but failing to be a smart a r s e.... I love the performance related pay we started to introduce, but recently forgotten....

  89. The club has said nothing.

  90. And is why Rodgers has overlooked the academy. Not only with Wisdom but also Martin Kelly, Ryan McLaughlin and we had Flanagan so there was no need for Manquillo.

I have written and sent the article to Jaimie, it will be up to him to post it.

  91. Sterling to leave Liverpool? Is it not the fault of FSG and Brendan Rogers? If the guy wants to win a title and European Championship medal he feels he has to move on. So he should who has the right to block his ambition if it is not to be fulfilled at Anfield.... ? How long is it since we won or bought the league? Lets think about talking sense! Why was Suarez sold? Has FSG not got two (between the legs!) to meet anything Barcelona could offer...? Anyone in their right mind would not leave for Arsenal... When did they win a European Champions League? Right FSG need to put up the funds to buy the best in this day and age and if they can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen or are they in it for their bank balance and are satisfied with the mediocre put before the best fans in the world? It is no good just buying almost good players to challenge Chelsea, Man City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Aston Villa.... who?.... Aston Villa? Wow did we just get stuffed by Villa at Wembley? Who really is responsible for that... Not me! I watched (paid the TV Company) Sang Walk on! ...... I have no influence....Come on lets get down to basics.....times have changed to get a cup or title you have to buy it and not just be an also ran as Liverpool have shown to be for too many years now. Go Sterling if they are not prepared to buy strikers who can play about 38 games and score goals galore and walk over the best teams in Europe... Go join the best because to be the best you have to beat the best and hey we just got stuffed by Man Utd, Arsenal and Villa... who? Villa? Lol! Villa.... Tim out witted Brendan? Hang on Tim was sacked by Tottering Hotspuds....Good gracious we are up the f in creek without a paddle.... The years are passing and I can't live for ever! We need to act now and do the right thing to win the title, Champions League, FA Cup and the League Cup for fun like we used to! ......

  93. The point is being vain is irrelevant, his personal life is irrelevant. His home décor is irrelevant. Which made your whole point.....w ell, you get the picture.

  94. Yes he did, but not for 3 or so years did he do that. His best buys were at the early part of his reign and before City rocked up with billions

  95. Don't forget this was pre City and he did inherit a CL side not one finishing 7th

  96. I agree I think he went missing. The problem is he rarely is a game changer and we need at least 2 of those in the middle of the park

  97. Benzema wasn't happy under Ancelotti for a given reason no one knows of.

It doesn't have to be Vidal either. Insert any good defensive world class midfielder, I was merely using him as an example.

All in all, we could have bought a world class player in every position and the job would have been done.

  98. I might need to check with code on this but Manquillo Markovic Balotelli and Lovren - all English?

  99. I for one think if we can get 50 mil for Sterling snatch it and run, use the money to sign Ibe up to a longer deal if need be as the boy Is just as technically gifted and I think a better prospect. Raheem does have potential and fantastic turn of pace but a terrible end product can you say Theo Walcott, and he hasn't really pulled up any trees in his career so far. Dont get me wrong Raheem is good but not worth the wages he's asking for and if he's taking young Jordan under his wing with his fabulous out of hours antics I'd rather he left. You only have to look at the start of the season and the last few games when we have made Raheem the centre point for our team and attack to see just how little we need him, had we played an actual striker up top or at least one who can hold the line himself not Balo then this season may have turned out a little better. All credit to Hendo who appears to be on the verge of resigning Coutinho already signed and Skrtel who is looking to resign as well, all much better and more important than Sterling, Divvy up his wages and give it to those guys far more deserving....Rant over lol

  100. U sound like u are making excuses for the man. Then it can argued that balo and lambo were "back up" buys. He got lucky with his buys and now his luck is out he's leaving before his rep takes even more of a hit. I guarantee if he had stayed on he'd have flopped again and then all the top clubs would have treated him like a leper.
Just like pep He's leaving when the going is good.

  101. Ok so u would rather have us second in the league than have us competing for silver ware. He kept us in the cl contention more than any other manager in the last decade alone and that is badly needed right now. It will definitely be an upgrade on where we are now.
I honestly believe he's older and wiser and defo wants to succeed with this team.

  102. He'd have probably tried alonso as a wingback or a striker and then gone on to try masherano as a playmaker and full back that's how bad this guy is.

  103. Last year the players who drove on the team from suare to sterling to Gerard to skertrl were not his buys. I'm not conveniently forgeting Phil and Danny but honestlyz is not Phil is very inconsistent? Isn't danny very injury prone? He's failed to either cover the deficiencies of his own players he has moved for? And who's fault is that?
I honestly think there's something going on behind the scenes like players being forced on him and he's protesting by not playing them . Because that's all he can do because he lacks the pedigree to make a stand against it. Because I doubt he's lobbied for all these signings and doesn't know how to use them. The number of times players are played out of position is astonishing and when it back fires its as glaring as the 100 pound gorilla in a class room of toddlers.
