Shock Result? 69% of Liverpool fans want 'world-class' boss to replace Rodgers

Outgoing Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is one of the favourites to replace Brendan Rodgers at Anfield this summer, but what do Liverpool fans think about the possibility of Rodgers making way for the 'world-class' German manager?

For many fans, Reds legend Steven Nicol summed it up perfectly on ESPN this week:

"If I'm the owner, and a guy like Jurgen Klopp is available, I'm going for Klopp.

"They've already given him [Rodgers] a lot of money. You put the two resumes together and there's only one winner"

A posted a poll on the site this week asking fans to choose between Klopp and Rodgers. The results are emphatic:

It seems as if Rodgers' supports amongst the fanbase is waning, and although he deserves great credit for last year's title challenge (and the exciting football that went with it), it's clear that change at Anfield will - for the most part - be welcome.

I just can't see it happening, though. When it comes to transfers, I'm one of Rodgers' biggest critics, but with Anfield being redeveloped, and the incredible cost of replacing the manager, it seems like the wrong time to contend with more major upheaval.

I have no problem with Rodgers being given another year at the club, but if FSG do replace him with Klopp over the summer, then be it.

  1. I would love to see BR stay on for another year, but with Klopp being available i would expect the owners to at least meet/attempt to gauge if he has an interest in LFC.
The owners should be doing their due diligence on this type of situation.

  2. I think 10 mill is nothing compared to the money that the champions league can bring in and with klopp as the manager we stand a better chance of getting top 4 regularly than we would with br, makes more sense to pay br off rather than to keep him

  3. B R fate will be decided from now to the end of the season - he has a tough job staring today - Excuses are running out and F S G must know that - I hope he stays but RESULTS MATTER - NOWT ELSE - The greats know that - Besides - if results are getting you down then cheer up boys - Its MONEY V MANNY week today - now theres 2 boys who know a little about getting results. P S Still deadly serious that the likes of Balo And Sturidge Lallana go down the gym with David Price - make men of them

  4. Don't know if I'm missing something but hasn't Klopp taken Dortmund to 10th position in the league this season! Why not get hodgson back if that's the aim!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Everyone seems to be forgetting that Klopp has massively underachieved this season. He lost his main striker Lewandowski) to another club and his second best player (Reus) to injury and Dortmund are 10th having flirted with relegation. This is pretty much the same situation BR has had to deal with and we're 5th in a much more competitive league. I'll say this, Year 4 of Rodgers will definitely be better than year 1 of Klopp or any other manager!

  6. Sorry i am confused i think i am on the wrong website this is Liverpool Klopp is it not!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think a lot forget too the talent Klopp had at his disposal.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Rodgers out for me, Klopp, Rafa or De Boer in!!!............................BR has made shocking mistakes and needs to go.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Read Klopp's cv.......................they sold off his best players, like H+G did to Rafa.

    ReplyDelete
  10. You can still see BR stay for another year at different club LOL

    ReplyDelete
  11. RAFA BENITEZ for example LOL

    ReplyDelete
  12. If I remember, BR's best player was sold off as well right? I don't understand why people are judging the two managers using different scales. If you want us to hire Klopp because of something he did in previous season which was overachieving with a Dortmund then I would understand. But then going by the same scale shouldn't we keep BR for overachieving in a previous season as well, taking the side from 7th to 2nd and within 2 points of the title.

    ReplyDelete
  13. He has also won the German league twice runner up twice, super up twice, cl runner up, think that's a better cv than Rogers has got,,, or am I missing somethng

  14. Dortmund's success had everything to do with:

    1) Stability. They gave Klopp successive seasons to build his team.

    2) Opportunity: Bayern fell apart and opened the way for Dortmund to return to contention.

Liverpool currently need to work on (1) while waiting for (2). It's what we got last season: a couple of years of stability put us into position to take advantage when Chelsea and Man Utd went into transition.

It would be no different for Klopp than for Rodgers, and personally I prefer Rodgers' way of doing things.

  15. How is this a shock? Good that nearly 70 percent of the fans want BR to be replaced.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah great idea lets become a club that sacks our manager every year that's the spirit, we get Klopp in and we are 6th at Christmas you will all be on here calling for his head and wanting him replaced Jesus nothing like the good old fickle football fans eh!!!

  17. 'Money v Manny' is a giant money making exercise for the two of them and should of happened years ago if they were serious about seeing who was the better boxer. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see a boring 12 round yawn fest resulting in a draw or narrow points victory.
Much as I like David Price and wanted him to do well and fully respect anyone who gets in the ring, lets be honest, his chin's made of similar stuff to Sturridge. Anthony Joshua has usurped him as our best heavy weight prospect now.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Also definitely better than year 1 of van haal?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Is 3 years not long enough to determine BR's performance?

Also, if LFC and its fans had a sacking culture, BR could have been culled mid-season - but we're not.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Unfortunately he won't be here comes next season. If you're happy to stick with him, then you follow him back to reading ...

bottom_line : this mighty football club is not were managers should be leaning their trade s

    ReplyDelete
  21. Some great points Lazers. Once Bayern fell apart, the others were much of a muchness.

Here in the PL though, there are SEVERAL top teams who ALL have to fall apart before it's a free for all

    ReplyDelete
  22. Two days on and I am still seething at BR's arrogance to state:

"I don't think there's anyone better. That's the reality of how I see
it. Three months ago, I was a tactical genius and performing to a good
level. We lost a couple of important games and suddenly you're not so
    good."

Some of our past illustrious managers (eg Paisley) have won every major honour several times over and never been so complacent to think either their the best or not irreplaceable.

So how can BR, having won a total of ZERO trophies in 3 years of charge, make a claim of being the best?

As to his tactical genius claim, the 13 or so winning game streak came after BR presided over the worst start to the season in 50 years. This winning streak was unable to ever propel LFC into the top 4. So ultimately BR's performance this year has not met minimum target expectations.

In summary, a shameful statement lacking humility.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You're completely misrepresenting what he meant.

What he was saying was that OTHERS were saying he was a tactical genius when we had the best record in the PL in 2015. Lose two games and suddenly he's rubbish.

it's the kneejerk nature of the comments that he is commenting on. Nobody in their right mind would really think he's saying he thinks he's a genius...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mike - I applaud you loyalty to the manager, although in my humble opinion I believe this to be misguided.

But how else does one interpret the statement "I don't think there's anyone better" other than sheer arrogance?

    ReplyDelete
  25. it's not blind loyalty. The same manger who got us within 1 game of winning last season (Chelsea) doesn't deserve to be sacked less than a year later for not repeating it.

As for the I don't think there's anyone better, I seriously doubt he's saying he doesn't think there's a better man in world football. It just suits his detractors to assign that interpretation. He's well within his rights to say that he doesn't think LFC could actually get a better manager at the moment- you name me a SINGLE manager who has EVER said 'Actually, I think the club could do better'

I expect our manager to be Self confident. We NEED a manager to be self confident otherwise he wouldn't be up to it

    ReplyDelete
  26. There is a distinct demarcation between self-confidence and arrogance.

Self-confidence means you have strong faith in your own ability, so much so, that you can admit your fallibilities knowing you have a strong enough internal resolve to fix things.

Arrogance on the other hand is an
offensive display of superiority or self-importance over and above what your actual recorded performance is.

BR has a propensity to err across the line towards arrogance rather than demonstrating self-confidence. It is a trait not becoming of a LFC manager and one out of step to our past greats.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Rafa was arrogant and opinionated.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Will you also be suggesting that Shanks, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish et al were also arrogant?

    ReplyDelete
  29. What does that have to do with what i stated absolutely nothing.
Embarrassing you must have a short memory remember Hodgson?

    ReplyDelete
  30. 2nd and this seasons cl was my imagination then.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So in response:

I would suggest Hodgson was more incompetent than embarrassing.

I have compared BR to our past great manager and you merely compare to Rafa.

It would be nice, for once, for a BR loyalist to have some honesty and integrity and accept BR's short comings and acknowledge his standards (behaviours, results and outlook) fall well short of what LFC has either had in the past or demands going forward.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Despite missing Lewandowski & Reus, Dortmund still had a much more respectable run in CL than LFC's group stage humiliations by Basle and Ludogerets...

    ReplyDelete
  33. And alas BR wasted that opportunity this year.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mate don't waste your time arguing with BR loyalists.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Don't worry, the BR apologists will soon explain away LFC's CL exit on injuries, missing key players (namely Suarez), bobbly pitches, the opposition side being better than us..

One of my work colleagues is a life-long Ludogerets supporter, and he thought across both legs they played the better football. The the travesty is he is right.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Even with CL all BR could attract was players like Lallana, Lambo and Lovren I really dont want to imagine more crap players he will bring in this summer(if he is still here)

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's just amazing how normal good people can become soooo blinkered on something they're so passionate about and lose their perspective and ability to see the obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Is it really as straight forward as all that... I don't think so... Injuries aren't excuses, they are fact.... Players struggling to find form, also not excuses, but fact... He can only do the job with the tools he has... Compared to those squads above... I would argue he has actualy done rather well.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So true....also its not like BR is not given time 3 years is fair time to prove yourself......The main reason we finished 2nd last year was cauz of Luis 31/13 goals/assists any top 8 can challenge for the title with him as their main striker

    ReplyDelete
  40. After 3 years, the "tools he has" are of his own choice and making.

There is a classic proverb that says a bad workman always blames his tools.

What is worse here, is that BR has a minion of loyalists who are willing to excuse away all of his faults rather than stopping for a moment and actually analyse his actual poor performance.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It would be nice for his detractors to acknowledge the good work BR has done too but you people always think the grass is greener over the other side like cows really.
Liverpool dont have billions and patience is needed its not the 70s or 80s any more groove with the times man.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If football was all about 1 player maybe but its a team game thats so wrong its incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think Naveen's point below is so true. Your point of view is so skewed that to expect a sincere and unbiased response is wishful thinking.

If 3 years is not being patient, please suggest when should we review BR's performance?

As to ethics, you will note that I did not condone Suarez's extra curricular activities. But clearly this point on ethics is missed on someone who is naively and blindly being loyal to someone no longer fit to lead our honourable club.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Won German league twice before Munich got a few quid that he couldn't compete with! Don't get me wrong he has done well but West Ham are 10th in the premiere league!

    ReplyDelete
  45. You are Naveen how stupid do you think i am anyone who thinks 1 player is a whole team and agrees knows nothing about football has never played or coached at any level.
Your knowledge of football needs lifting and theres not 1 thing skewed in my comments suggest you a play a game you may understand.
Being blindly loyal lala;la what rubbish is that all you have gee look at the poor skill level and application today.
What you say is that well get lessons!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Best man for the job failed to beat a parked bus again.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Difference between you and me.... I chose to support, rather than criticise with venom claiming it's because I love the club....I hate the club because I love it... Whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well loyalty is great trait not like these backstabbers who wait in the wings only for things to go wrong.
Thats not support its derision and devisive and obviously not support as you havent wanted to attack the answer just me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. In stead of taking person swipes, why is it so hard for you to discuss the topic at hand, ie why has BR shown a complete lack of class and shown a level of arrogance unbecoming of a LFC manager.

You state I am l living in the past. Does that mean the present is so wonderful that we should laud this as an example for all to follow from here on in?

I admire loyalty, believe me I do. But not misplaced loyalty either to a cause or person that is not in the best interest of the whole group - in this case LFC.

And by merely pointing out BR's short comings does not make me disloyal to LFC, who I may suggest I have been following for a lot longer than your good self, and is more important than any individual.

    ReplyDelete
  50. What 5 or so more maybe and i am glad you said following not supporting also the personal wacks were your doing and so was trying to put words in my mouth i dont want to waste any more time on you as you dont have a clue at all like i said play a game coach like i have.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I totally agree with you !
Only a bunch of fools would support him BR after what he has achieved in 3 yrs timeframe- and that is NOTHING

    ReplyDelete
  52. I would like to apologies if you believe anything I have said has been a personal swipe at you. This is NOT the case, as I do not believe in castigating people for their views.

All I can I suggest is you may have misinterpreted my comments re BR on to yourself.

As for your comment re playing a game/coaching, without going into specifics I have in my younger days played the game to a decent level having won medals and cups. More recently I have also coached but due to illness have had to give that up. However I do not understand how this either adds or detracts from the discussion. Especially as you have written much but avoided to directly respond to the points above.

Being critical does NOT equate to negativity. If you knew anything about me, or how I run teams, you will know I am the eternal optimist But when things are broke or not working you either fix them to get a new one.

This is the time to get a new manager.

    ReplyDelete
  53. are you BRs secretary??

    ReplyDelete
  54. It pains me when a manager is put ahead of a club. Seriously it pains me when this manager has achieved practically nothing in his tenure of 3 yrs and is too arrogant and haughty to call him the best !!
It's shameful when some fans defend a mediocre manager with their impractical analysis.
I want the club win silverwares -nothing less. And BR is clearly not the guy for that job.PERIOD

    ReplyDelete
  55. He has done well with a crap squad live with it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. He brought that crap squad himself.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I did not realise my written words were so venomous !!

It's a shame we're still in an age where as soon as someone utters an opinion which is not palatable, even though it may be true, it is easier to denigrate and distance yourself, without actually responding or debating the facts.

    ReplyDelete
  58. He dug that hole for himself.
But he was destined to do so, because it ain't his cup of tea to attract any star player.ANY.
What I dislike the most about this guy is that he is arrogant and highly immodest - a clear sign of amateur or a poor learner.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Not at all and the transfer committee plays a large part oh but you forgot!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh com'on are you his secretary or BR himself in disguise.

You're pissing me off with your stupid and kindergarten-like arguments.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Who was the last actual superstar Liverpool signed and not Suarez because he was not seen at that level then.
I dont care much for his personality much or the way he lives his life but hes there to manage.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Have you ever seen Suarez play for Ajax, Uruaguay national team and Barca for that matter?????

    ReplyDelete
  63. go away then dim w#t dont p#ss ya self on my behalf id#iot.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Go away ya f##l piddle off with ya stupid comments i dont care what ya think oh you dont.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Take a chill pill sugar baby. I hope you've completed your mathematics assignment.
This is not your place. Let the grown ups do the talking.
    And stop crying and whining

    ReplyDelete
  66. It really is easy this nature to see only the positives that BR has done, and excuse away the negatives.

I wish those determining my bonus and next pay rise are equalling as forgiving :-)

    ReplyDelete
  67. The problem is the BR loyalists do not see your pain, merely dismissing this as disloyalty to the BR cause. And worse, you cannot therefore by default be a LFC supporter any more.

Today's game was like watching paint dry, and if they had their way, we'd have the same all next season

    ReplyDelete
  68. Cant you read!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Mate, It's because I love you I speak the way I do... You get that don't you....

    ReplyDelete
  70. You've done this before no? Sooo smooth, you must have had practise?

Maybe with previous altercations with wife/gf ;-)
