Snubbed: 54% of fans reject Liverpool's plan to sign 'outstanding' £43m striker

Liverpool are currently linked with a move for 'outstanding' Manchester United misfit Radamel Falcao, but according to ex-Manc Paul Parker, the Reds have no chance of signing the misfiring striker. Falcao's history in the game is admirable, but do LFC fans really want the Colombian striker at Anfield?

In March, the Daily Mail claimed that Liverpool will be 'offered' Falcao this summer, but according to Parker:

"They [Liverpool] are not big enough a club for [£43m-rated] Falcao; he must be looking for more than that. And being ex-United it's unlikely the fans would take to him."

As Parker notes, the fact that Falcao is a Manc means a transfer is nigh-on impossible, but if Liverpool do pursue a deal this summer, how will the fanbase react? I recently conducted a poll on the site asking fans whether Liverpool should sign Falcao. The results:

The majority of voters are against the deal, but there are still a significant number of fans who support the club's alleged pursuit of Falcao. This is very surprising, for the following reasons:

* Reportedly on £265k-a-week, which is far more than Liverpool can (or should) pay.
* Suffered a serious ACL injury in the recent past, which is always a giant red flag.
* Struggling to recapture previous form due to the aforementioned injury.
* No real evidence to show that he's a (potentially) great Premier League striker.

In any event, a transfer to Liverpool makes little sense. It's clear that Falcao wants to be the main-main and play most games, but he isn't robust enough to achieve that.

If Liverpool sign a new senior striker, it needs to be someone capable of remaining fit for the majority of the season, and like Daniel Sturridge, the Colombian isn't capable of that.

Just like at Man United, Falcao will almost certainly be a squad player at Anfield (just like Balotelli, Lambert, and Borini), and I doubt he'd sign for the Reds anway without a guarantee of playing time.

The ship has sailed on this deal. Time to move on.

  1. Agreed, the Falcao ship has sailed, he used to be a great player but he is turning into Toress Mk2.. But word on the street is that Cavani is available for £20m, he is quite unhappy but surely worth a cheeky bid(!)

  2. Kinda surprised that many people actually want him. His injury history and seemingly tough time adjusting to life in England don't justify the ridiculous fee and wages we'd need to pay. Not to mention his agent has the billing of someone who'll be in the papers every other week running his mouth and distrupting things. A lot of talent out there that will be cheaper and, imo, more hungry to prove themselves due to the fact they haven't been "lauded" as much as falcao has over the years

  3. Never mind Falcoa - wont happen because of his wages BUT B R is wrong to to side with Raheem stating we wont sell him = LET HIM GO BUT NEVER EVER EVER TO A LONDON CLUB - That is what he craves - LFC should declare that TOMORROW - Never sell to COCKNEY LAND

Lacazette 40m , buy what is hot like Torres and Suarez was , Falcao is past it

sell Lallana and Markovic if we have to
    Ibe and Trexiera are better

take whatever we can for Lallana and Markovic and spend big on Laaczette. I can see west ham pay 15m for Lallana and 13m for Markovic from Benfica

  5. You are not the only one, I have been saying this all season and was forever being slaged, Yes let him go and get IBE in asap who is a far better player.

I am really good with football, if i was the manager i would be bigger then Jose Mourinho , my tactical understanding is second to none and i am very smart in unearthing good talent.
But it is too much effort so i am not going to enter the managerial world .
    i am a better manger then David Moyes 100%. : )

Mate you lost an 9 point lead with 4 games to go to lose title to Manchester city in 2012

so a 6 point gap with 8 games , nothing is guaranteed i can see Liverpool still finish second and i would not put it past Liverpool to win the league still . Look at Istanbul 3-0 down to a great Ac Milan team with shevchenko,Kaka,Pirlo ,Nesta ,Staamp,Maldini,Dida ,Crespo,Ambrosini.
Liverpool are in the title race until mathematically impossible.

We are a special club with an unprecedented aura and Istanbul only shows how great we are.

We almost won the league last year with a front 4 (Suarez,Sturridge,Sterling,Coutinho) that cost 46m , 14m less then di Maria.

If anyone can win the league from 5th with 8 games it is Liverpool

  10. Hi Code, I got as far as FSG have no ambition and nearly didn't read any further and for that I apologise, or at least accept full responsibility.
I do think you make a good point, that a club needs both a good manager as well as good owners, and both working in tandem.
Do you really think that FSG are holding us back though? Surely your trolling at least a little there. I can't see how you can really think the money they've invested in players and stadium expansion is not a clear sign of ambition, or do you think it's purely a quest for profit.
Genuine question. If that is your view though, I forearm you I will counter there are far easier and quicker ways to turn a profit.

  12. If we start paying Sterling and Coutinho mer, then as a future captain we ought to offer Hendo at least as much frankincense.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Now say 3 hail Hendo's and 2 our Sterling's and then off to bed

  23. I think, our biggest transfer blunder was Lallana - even bigger than Carroll. I understand the logic behind Carroll - he could have been a monster target-man in long ball English game of 80s (last time KD was around) and he was just 23 when bought, but really I don't understand the logic of spending 26mn (& definitely an unworthy wage) for a player, who at 26, doesn't start for a very average English team. He doesn't offer anything to be honest & I don't see any role for him either - winger, 2nd striker, No. 10 (AM), CM, DM, wing-back; he is just an average player in between who can fit into 3/4 positions for a mid-table club.

Coming to Falco, I am surprised to see that 45%+ believes that spending 40mn & almost 4 times wage for a 30 years old, injury prone forward is a good idea. I am sure, lots of rumors are spread by news media & agents to heat the transfer speculations, but this one is too much to believe.

We are chasing too many wild goose - our target should be more focused
    1. Off-load Lallana, Lovern, Sterling (yes off-load, disturbing element), Lucas & Johnson (+ some fringe players like Aspas, Illori, Alberto, Jones...... Mignolet as well if we are convinced that we need a better GK)

    2. Buy a CF - the best available one, may be for some premium - Lecazzette 'll be the perfect choice

    3. Spend over the top to bring the Porto RB - Danilo

    4. Bring a solid CM. I don't think, BR actually understands the role of a DM, so better not to go that route

    5. In place of Sterling (his money should be good enough) - bring at least 1, if possible both of Depey & Griezzmann

    6. If Mignolet leaves, bring a tried & tested EPL GK - my choice is Cech & a couple of U21 understudy.

  24. Yes it alarmed me somewhat too.
It's like a jigsaw puzzle though, if you take the pieces depicting science, geography, football and reality, and bin them, you won't not be that much closer to realising the bigger picture.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sorry to nitpick but Danilo already agreed for the Madristas, and we would be lucky to get Depay, let alone Griez. Without CL Contention ATM, we have no chance of signing any big players.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well to be fair Coutinho was a young player with potential as well, and Sturridge was a risk. Sakho also didn't do too well when he came at first. We need to use academy players though.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Matthew Ryan, and a contract extension on legend Glen Johnson

    ReplyDelete
  28. I understand the situation, that's where my frustration is so high. We had everything last year - CL football, Suarez money, BT Tv deal, EPL runners up position, iconic player like SG. We had the best chance to bring 2/3 world class players - BR went for the Lallans, Markovices, Ballotellis ........ I don't know what FSG 'll do, their operating system is different; but for most other owners, I think BR has done enough mistakes to be sacked if he doesn't make it top 4.

Why did they sell Torres and Suarez then ?

Why have they never bought player 40m+ ?

  32. Indicative of the youth today though....I'm great (debatably), but it seems like I would have to try.....I shan't bother then.
And in fairness with regards to Moyes my 4 year old daughters 3 year old golfish is more tactically adept than moyes, and he can motivate with the best.

  33. I dont think the signings in the summer were a problem. We needed depth to compete across the board, everyone expected more from Lallana and Lovren and probably even a bit more from Marko. But the quantity was nessecary. What we didn't get was that top top player to help bridge the gap from Suarez. If we do finish top 4 I can only see us going after 2/3 top top players. As more depth is no longer necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Spot on . Totally agree up to the Raheem Sterling to go. He is our best player by a mike and has carried the team from an attacking sense all season playing as a lone striker most of the time. Now with an addition of a fit pacey goalscoring partner he will be invigorated and we will start winning more than we lose.Borini and Balotelli to go also, waste of £28m .

    ReplyDelete
  35. The ones who are good enough will be used

    ReplyDelete
  36. He won't go for £20m. Even PSG would want more than that.

  37. I don't want us to sell RS, problem is if he is not willing to stay, that's disturbance at backroom.

  44. I'm confused. On one hand, you suggest in some of your articles that BR should sign players with proven quality. Then you counter that by saying players with proven quality wouldn't sign with LFC because BR isn't internationally renowned. Where does that leave us?

    ReplyDelete
  45. You're confusing yourself; it has nothing to do with me

  46. Ask yourself lad how many decent players have knocked us back and then ask yourself how we could possibly have kept Suarez or Torres.
