Better than Neymar: Liverpool chase exciting €30m striker hailed as 'best player of the Americas'

After a season of Daniel Sturridge injury frustration, one thing is abundantly clear: it's absolutely imperative that Liverpool sign a reliable, robust new striker this summer, and amid horror stories of talks with Radamel Falcao, the latest goalscorer linked with a transfer to Anfield is fellow Colombian Carlos Bacca.

Better than Neymar? Liverpool chase exciting 21-goal striker hailed as 'best player of the Americas' award

According to The Telegraph today:

* Liverpool and Spurs are 'monitoring' 28-year old Bacca.

* The Colombian is allegedly available for €25 [£18m].

Some info about Bacca:

* Contract expires: 2018
* Buyout Clause: €30m
* Right-footed striker.
* 7 goals in 17 apps for Colombia.

* 2013: Belgian League's 'Player of the Year'
* 2014: Named 'Best Signing of the year' by Marca.
* 2014: Beat Neymar to LFP Award for 'Best Player of the Americas'.
* 2014: Europa League winner with Sevilla.

Stats:

* Sevilla Total: 41 goals/19 assists in 97 apps.
* Goal assist every 1.6 games.
* This Season: 21 goals/7 assists in 45 appearances.
* Goal/Assist every 1.6 games.
* Passing accuracy: 67%

Bacca is in his prime right now, and he's grabbed 20+ goals in 5 of the last 7 season, including the last three years, so he basically guarantees a consistent supply of goals.

Additionally, like Luis Suarez, Bacca is a tough, robust player, and in the last ten years, he's suffered only one minor injury (muscle strain), which is very impressive.

Like so many other players, though, the Colombian has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, and he confirmed this earlier in the season, when he told reporters:

"It would be a dream to be at a club as big as Barca, but one always has to live in reality. I'm with Sevilla, where I'm very happy and have a contract. What happens next is whatever God wills."

Bacca is 29 this year, so he's only got another couple of years at the highest level. As such, FSG may view spending €25m on a player with reduced minimal future sell-on value as too much of a risk.

Worth pursuing?

  2. Yes Vietto all the way, maybe even Depay too. But not £25m on Vietto, he has a buyout clause of €18m

    ReplyDelete
  3. Far too expensive for his age

    ReplyDelete
  4. And €18m is about £13m. Nowhere near £25m

  5. they are just decent, but if you only want top 10 in the pl that's a good choice

  6. I'd rather see it out with BR as we've come this far. We seen very promising signs with him at the helm over the last few years and Klopp although a good fit, hasn't been doing great recently. Besides he's odds on on for Citeh circus ...

    ReplyDelete
  7. I agree with most of what you said apart from sacking BR and that the team lacks fight. We fought last season to second from seventh which is unprecedented. From a terrible start to the season albeit a fault of BR and his staff we fought to be in contention for top four by manufacturing a great unbeaten run...

  8. Gotze was a junior there i think anyway dont want Klopp.

  9. People have short memories when it comes to Rafa. We had some good times, especially in Europe, but he too made some serious transfer blunders, as well as some quite staggering decisions at times with regards to starting lineups and substitutions

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm not sure Mucky is really considered a success... He's been fairly quiet this season...

    ReplyDelete
  11. Funny calling them second choices and an example of penny pinching, all except Balotelli are actually more expensive than the so called first choice's...

    ReplyDelete
  12. He chose Dortmund because of the CL...

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not really his point....

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thats the real question isn't it.... If we do keep him, then FSG have to back him....I think it goes without saying LFC are in a critical position right now.... Get this summer right, and we could actually put up a decent challenge

    ReplyDelete
  15. He is definately aviable option... But do we really need to sack Brendan.... Granted, things could have gone better in the transfer market... But I think he is actually doing a good job with the players available....Stick or twist, stick or twist..... I just don't know what to do..... AHHH yes I do....stick.

  16. Clip Klopp if it isnt going to be Rodgers then i would have Rafa back he is a better manager than Klopp and his record speaks for itself.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Agree that BR should go.

    ReplyDelete
  18. After watching Liverpool for last few years, if people still come up with lineups without a DM then there is something wrong.

  19. Jaimie Why say world class Klopp or Benitez implying Benitez isn't or hasn't been world class? I know Klopp is the younger of the two but I'm pretty sure that Benitez's trophy count and accolades still outweigh Klopps. Having said that I would still like Klopp over Benitez but only marginally. Rafa proved himself to us he did great things with our club but I would like to see a proven young manager not another he's an up and comer and could do alright for us. I was a massive Brendan doubter and said he wouldn't progress our club at all and was half forced to eat my words last season when Suarez and co did the job for him covering some of his flaws. Tactically the guy is just inept most of the time I love the way he tries to play but sometimes you do need to just put the pretty football to one side and grind out a result something that Brendan doesn't seem to be able to do.

  20. That's like saying Benitez's first choices were always good, Ronaldo, Messi, Silva, etc etc. it counts for nothing unless you can attract them. He still one the Champs league with arguably one of the worst Liverpool teams going. You have to work with what you've got.

    ReplyDelete
  21. They were quick enough to sack Kenny after a poor league showing but 2 cup finals!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm inclined to agree with JK here, I think talk of replacing Rodgers is premature. The guy needs at least one more chance at the league and CL next season.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Do you really all think KLOPP would put up with a Transfer Committee ?
He wont come to Liverpool that shop sailed when he said no last time.
KLOPP , BENITEZ , SIMIONE will not work with a transfer committee but BR will.
As long as that exist we will have BR.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Twofold in a way mate. I can't see them sacking Rodgers but I am not privy to any agreements or targets they made with him. I can say categorically that Ancelloti won't be coming to Liverpool though. I can say that with near certainty.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kino planks is available on a free at the end of the season apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Can't Fsg sanctioning this at all. Looks ok but worth the money for his age? Not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The Salah deal in particular, I couldn't believe we didn't manage to get that done

    ReplyDelete
  28. Where are Dortmund in the league?
Let's be realistic, Liverpool aren't considered a 'top 4' club at the moment. We're currently '2nd in best of the rest' position. Dortmund, who are considered UCL perennials are miles away in a league that is pretty much a one horse race. Their season is comparable to how our's was in 10/11 with Hodgson.
Sorry, but even Moyes did better than that at Utd.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Brendan can't attract the big players and without big players, we just buying average players. How long can we stand with Brendan? Get Benitez or Klopp, with my preference Klopp.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't usual bother posting comments on this or any other website but being realistic I expect Liverpool at best to finish 5th every season. When you compare squads and finances (transfer budget & player wages) City, Chelski, Manure & Arsenal should be finishing above us otherwise in their case it would be deemed as failure. Every season we finish in the top 4 I see it as over achieving. I think a lot of casual fans need to get real with the constant kneejerk reactions to a league defeat or cup exit and get behind Rodgers sacking him would be pure stupidity IMHO. This transfer window was about quantity not quality this summer add 4-5 quality signings and we can challenge for top 4.

I rather wait CITY or BVB player on sales this summer ! Buy 2 free 1.....

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think, and here's my little conspiracy, Chelsea never wanted Salah, they just bought him because LFC were such a big threat at the time...And, for another little conspiracy, Konoplyanka, I wouldn't be suprised if Ambramovich and the owner of Dnipro are really good mates...and a little phone call was made with a little sweetener to stop the move....

  34. Rafa is the man. 12 trophies, a very for yet another European semi #WINNER

    ReplyDelete
  35. Supposedly Benitez scouted him as a youngster, can't say for certain but supposedly so.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'd love to see BR booted right out - can't see it happening, though. Klopp to Anfield? Almost certainly more fantasy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. No, he won't.

    ReplyDelete
  38. And that's the truth!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lets face it bud, you just don't like Benitez.... Lets not forget the 86 points he got Liverpool in 08/09 season, more than last seasons 84 points. People seem to forget this.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ermmmm am pretty sure sterling was signed by Benitez?? Well am not sure, it's a fact! Also you can't compare the likes of Gundogan, Reus and lewandowski.... To Can Sturridge and even couthino as the Mentioned Dortmund players have all done it at the highest level of European football! And as for sakho....haha Give me a brake pal!

    ReplyDelete
  41. For whatever reason, those who do not like Rafa are extremely vociferous about their dislike, while those who remember his record and achievements don't shout as loud. Hence the disparity both in the media and the LFC fans about a potential negative view whenever Rafa's name is mentioned.

It is a real shame to castigate such a honourable person who served us really well.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Alas, my fear is that he would seem to be high on Man City's radar rather than FSG's, whom I am guessing may be interested in Klopp.

Would be a great season next year if it turns out like that next year with the firework with Mourinho, Wenger and LVG.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You're reading too much into it. It's not me saying Klopp is 'world-class', it's Ilkay Gundogan; the phrase is a link to his comments.

Benitez is also a world-class manager, and he's proven that by breaking the Barca-Real monopoly in La Liga, and winning the CL with an average Liverpool team.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If Rafa had been backed like Buck; we'd have won something by now .. Playing for 4th place is soul destroying

    ReplyDelete
  45. I believe you have ariculated that we LFC fans should accept mediocracy and accept anything above 5th place should be a bonus in the current financial comparision to the other 4 teams. And this mediocracy is justification for BR doing a GREAT job and he should NOT be replaced in the summer.

Somehow I do not share you view. I believe a manager like Klopp or Rafa given the same 3-year financial backing given to BR would have performed better and have a much stronger squad and first 11 than we currently have.

If all we can do is look forward to more mediocracy with BR at the helm, I for one would prefer a change in the summer in the hope of building a team that can challenge for honours with continued levels of FSG investment.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Totally agree. A revered manager will in todays market attract better quality player rather than (unfotunately) the name and history of LFC. In the summer BR/LFC were unable to attract the players who were available (eg Fabs and Sanchez) even though we had CL to offer.

A rather poor state of affairs, compounded by no CL allure in the summer for further decent recruitment.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Then maybe FSG need to either realise their experiment has failed or expect further mediocracy with yes man BR.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Agree Rafa made mistakes esp in his last year and his dealings with Alonso.

But why do you choose to remember him by his mistakes yet are willing to overlook all of BR's flaws?

Best and worst of Rafa is still a great deal superior than best and worst of BR.

    FACT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. It may be Rafa is ahead of Klopp forcthe City job.

    ReplyDelete
  50. This the question I proposed in a earlier debate... and much like you I dont think we can.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree with the idea that Anceletto would do a good job at LFC and he would consider coming.

However A) he is not leaving Real in the summer and B) if he were available he would alas have much better opportunities than LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Erm BR still needs a GK, commanding/pacy CB and DM, a #10 and striker. Basically a complete new spine to the team.

A damning indictment after 3 years and having spent £200m.

    ReplyDelete
  53. We need to thank Rafa for Sterling..

    ReplyDelete
  54. Lfc are still playing players recruited by Rafa.

If nothing else this suggests a forward thinking manager.

    ReplyDelete
  55. i think we just need a top striker ,a cm and a right back e.g pjanic and lacazette and clyne , sell sterling for 40 mil and use that to help pay for these 2 and we dont need a dm as we already have a gem in emre can, he's much better defensively now that he's had experience . the lineup would look like this if we use the small diamond formation which was amazing last season.
    sturridge lacazette

    coutinho

    pjanic henderson
    can

    moreno sakho skrtel clyne

    mignolet

    ReplyDelete
  56. i think we should get klopp because lets face it brendan just can't attract top players to save his life, we thoight we could if we get champions league but we still can't, also based on the last 2 summer transfer windows his transfers just arent good enough, people keep harping on about the transfer commitee but its rodgers who gets the final say. yes klopp didnt have an amazing season but you forget his club keeps getting ransacked by bayern and injuries to reus, hummels, gundogan etc, hes done amazingly well with what he had, he also has a very good european track record, something brendan is shocking at. so ask yourself this,, would you gamble another year with brendan or would you have the oppurtunity to be managed by one of the biggest european managers because i doubt another oppurtunity like this would come again

    ReplyDelete
  57. Excellent points which the BR symphasizers need to take note of.

Giving BR another season and asking him to come good in the summer transfer window is wishful thinking and completely deluded.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yes good point.

    ReplyDelete
  59. To be successful now in the EPL you effectively need 2 relatively strong players per position. On that basis LFC will additionally require a DM, commanding CB and a quality GK.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yep.. as those wishing to retain BR are ultimately accepting another season of the same.. absolutely soul destroying.

    ReplyDelete
  61. maybe we need him

    ReplyDelete
  62. age isn't a bad thing don't judge him by his age, u wouldn't say that if Luis Suarez came back 2 Anfield

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think Bacca falls into the you snooze you lose category

    ReplyDelete
  64. At end of the day B Rodgers has had three seasons at club, He has spent over £200M and even if we somehow do win the FA Cup. I think B Rodgers and the abyzmal and comical transfer committee need to be scrapped as their dealings with transfer over the last 3 seasons has been poor to say the least.

B Rodgers mistakes this summer have been huge: The fact we sold P Reina and D Agger for peanuts was comical.

P Reina is a world class Goal keeper and even though the last three seasons he was at the club he was very inconsistant, he is still a much better GK than S mignolet. He should have been given the chance to compete with Mignolet for the Number 1 spot this season.

As Agger was in the top 1-3 defenders at club whether injury prone or not, Agger lacked pace and speed but was a world class defender. Agger should have been kept at the club as he is much better defender than K Toure and G Johnson , yet we kept them two comedians instead.

B Rodgers inability to bring a Mobile Quick Defensive midfielder to club this summer was huge mistake. And is one of the main reasons we have suffered this season. L Leiva is the best defensive midfielder we have at club, but his lack of energy, mobility, pace and speed against the mobile quick pacey sides is a problem.

B Rodgers spent £20M on R Lambert and M Balotelli, When he should have spent an extra £10m on strike force:
£30M on L Remy and C Benteke instead.

As D Sturridge club can never rely on for whole season, every season he will be out for at least month or two with injury so we needed some reliable cover for him up front.

B Rodgers biggest sin is his love affair with clue/useless J Allen, players are played out of position so that this guy is played in every game and he is completely average. And he just seems to get in Lucas and Henderson's way when they play together.

B Rodgers and the abyzmal transfer committee both need to be scrapped in the summer
