Massive Boost for LFC: 'Sensational' attacker confirms he'll soon return to Liverpool training

Two weeks ago, 'sensational' Liverpool starlet Jordon Ibe confirmed that he'd be out for 'six to eight weeks' with injury, but according to his latest update, his recovery may be ahead of schedule.

Speaking to LFC.com in March, Ibe revealed:

"They said I could be out for six to eight weeks.

"I'm a bit nervous as I [haven't] been out on the grass for four weeks, but everything is going well."

Last night, Ibe posted the following injury update:

If Ibe is out for the full 8 weeks, he'll return on May 2nd, which will leave only 3 games remaining until the season draws to a close, but if he's back in training today (10th April) he could conceivably be back on the bench much sooner than that.

In a separate interview, Ibe revealed that his surprise at playing so many games for the club after his return in January:

"I’m enjoying everything [but] I didn’t think I’d play as much as I had. It’s been terrific so far so hopefully I can keep at that and impress the gaffer"

Did Rodgers overplay Ibe and indirectly contribute to his injury? It's definitely possible:

* 7th to 26th February: Started five games in a row (one game every 3.8 days)
* 19th to 26th of February: Started 3 games in a row (one game ever 2.3 days)

It's probably that Ibe didn't have enough recovery time between games, which may have contributed to his injury. After all, playing 90 minutes every 3.8 days is a lot for a 19-year old who's never played in the Premier League before.

Like most fans, I enjoyed watching Ibe play, but overplaying Ibe to this extent is arguably a tad irresponsible.

  1. IIRC Rodgers didnt have much choice considering the form of his competitors and injuries to others. Plus, if he has a great game, as he did, play him again if he's still fit, any manager would do the same, knowing that Ibe hasnt really had major injury problems and is a strong young athlete.

  2. Massive boost - he has a great chance of making it big and PLEASE PLEASE lets SELL STERLING and use the money wisely e g Millner plus 2 others from City. You cannot make a goal scorer and Sterling is far far from being a natural - We can bring in £100 if we sell wisely and this time get it right

  3. Good news ,
He needs to be fighting fit for the last couple of games so that he can scoring the winner in the FA final

  4. Almost makes you miss Benitez's then infamous squad rotation doesn't it? Tricky thing to balance form and fitness. An overdependence on some youngsters can go awry, as we saw with Owen, and is currently the case with Sterling. Talents should be nurtured, not exploited.

  5. I am going to re-mortgage my house and put that bet on !

  6. I doubt that even if he plays every minute of every game from now until hes 35, he'll never be as poor a commentator as Owen...
But yes, you have a point, although it wasn't overplaying by us that caused his injury, it was more his style of play, coupled with the style that Houllier was pushing on the players. I remember an interview where he kind of demonstrated that he would use changes in pace, from standstill to full sprint, change direction, then stand still and repeat, waiting for a through ball for him to run onto. This would have torn his hamstrings apart, not necessarily being overused.
Maybe not Benitez's level of rotation, but maybe a happy medium?

  7. I want to see this kid on the wings with Sterling with Coutinho behind a fully fit Sturridge.

  8. Hold on there Stu, I heard he's cup tied for the entire season. The injury thing is just a smoke screen.

  9. Too late the bets made. It's the final not a cup tie so it should be fine.

But if BR does not pick him I will join Logan in calling for his instant sacking and replacement with a top top manager or something, As long as that something is a round peg and not a square one.

  10. That should be a ten minutes to remember.

  11. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I'm sure Ibe didn't ply full ninety in last couple of games but it was last two of three games in five days.

  12. Never gets old.

    Well......

  13. Square pegs eh? Not heard that one before. I will also be joining you in calling for BR's head if he doesn't reinstate Skrtel to central defence against Newcastle. Rodgers really showing his tactical naivety by not playing him these last two matches.

  14. He's 18 no way was he overplayed. at that age you'd play everyday! He had knee ligament damage which can occur out of nowhere, overplayed or not.

  15. Don't get me started on Gerrard either

  16. Thats my feeling ,
Trying to remember what I was like when I was that age ?
    Just a blur .

  17. Better losing a house , than the last Liverpool supporter that lost a bet .

  18. I bet he had the rise taken out of him

    ReplyDelete
  19. That,s for sure ,he will never take a rise again

  20. A more talented but more often injured Arron Lennon.

  21. Hendo is chalky white all the time!

  22. They are both only a comfortably off man's Stewart downing compared with an extremely wealthy man's Raheem Sterling

  23. He would never sign for us unless he has a major deßire to begin receiving death threats from Manchester.
We would offer him 100k a week with 50 percent tax whilst Real will bench Modric or Kroos and pay him 200k minimum.

  24. Keep up that has now been rumbled and we're going to have to try a back 2 ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. As long as Toure is not one of those back 2, we might actually be ok hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  26. Where's the next part, when Chelsea sign him despite him being locked in a room at melwood?

    ReplyDelete
  27. If only we had a half-Di Natale at Afield right now, apart from Stevie of course.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Walcott looks as if he's a robot nowadays where he runs in straight lines with no game intelligence. His shootings nearly as bad as Sterlings. I voted no in that poll. I also vote no now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Flanno. That will a beautiful story to tell in a dozen years or so..

    ReplyDelete
  30. Great news.. I'm alittle concerned at the number of injuries we seem to be getting at the moment...It maybe that we need to keep hold of Aspas and Alberto at the rate just to ensure we have options...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I' ll help, we can can split the cash.... that cool with you...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ouch!... Poor Owen should never have signed for Utd, he's lost the use of our rose tinted glasses now....

    ReplyDelete
  33. This sytem was supposed to be about finding a system to fit the players, I hope he adapts now with suspensions and injuries and doesn't try and force the system... early signs are a 4-3-3...But we'll have to wait and see...

    ReplyDelete
  34. And a wee bit messy...

    ReplyDelete
  35. We have more than enough resource hogging injury prone players that we don't need to add to them...

    ReplyDelete
  36. On the point of the article, Great players like Jamie don't automatically make great general managers. Walcott once a Reds fan, is not healthy or study enough. We already have lallana and Sturridge as mr. Porcelain, why sign another. Bring back Looie !!!!!!!!!!

  37. Ibe is very strong so I don't buy the idea that he was overplayed and that led to an injury. Lapland maybe but not Ibe. That's rubbish. Our attack sucks and we need him big time!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Origi still coming in the summer boys. So we should have some additional firepower upfront hopefully

    ReplyDelete
  39. Stuart, this imposter Rodgers should go no matter what, he is totally out of his depth. I personally have no respect for this guy and as long as he remains......this club will be going knowhere.
