'I choose' Anfield: Top manager confirms he 'dreams' of going 'to Liverpool'

After Sunday's disappointing FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa, the heat is well and truly on for Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, and if FSG decide to make a change this summer, managers will be queueing up to take over at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp and Rafa Benitez are the current fan-favourites to succeed, but another manager has now thrown his hat into the ring for the job.

According to reports in France, St. Etienne boss Christophe Galtier is set to leave the club this summer, and he only has eyes for one club. When asked about his future on Saturday, Galtier told reporters:

"If I choose my destination, I would go to Liverpool, it's my dream"

Galtier is in his sixth season at St. Etienne, and he's presided over an impressive incremental year-on-year improvement in the club.

* 2009-10: 17th (40 points)
* 2010-11: 10th (49 points)
* 2011-12: 7th (57 points)
* 2012-13: 5th (63 points)
* 2013-14: 4th (69 points)

St. Etienne is not one of the richer clubs in France, so it's hardly surprising that Galtier is leaving at the end of the season. With the resources available, he's probably taken the club as far as he can.

Whatever way you slice it, though, Galtier's achievement over the last six years is impressive, and he's clearly one of the top managers in France.

However, his achievements are probably not enough to give him a shot at the Liverpool job. Like Rodgers, Galtier is comparatively unknown, and probably wouldn't be able to attract the elite of Europe to Anfield.

  6. Na we need a man of experience. 50+ is our man

  7. True that. Lfc is no a club for a young manager to learn his trade.

  8. Christophe Galtier is a brilliant Manager, I can't say much about his tactical capabilities, but watching some League 1 matches, I can tell that St Etienne plays very attractive football & in 7 years, he had developed players like Zouma, Payet, Abumyang, Perrin, Guilavogui, Ruffier..

    Bringing top players might be a bit tough, but we not bringing many at present either. Besides, he has very good reputation in France & some of the most exciting young players are now days French, who 'll love to play under a French Manager at LFC (For example, only money won't buy Leccazzette, Pogba, Griezzmann, Matuidi, Varane ..... for a nobody British Manager). And, he has very good reputation, contacts & knowledge of emerging African talents.

    I don't know what is FSG's plan - if they think they can give 150mn + sales proceeds over next 3 windows, probably Klopp & Rafa are better choices as for their reputation, they can bring players pricing 35mn or higher to Anfield, but the model FSG is operating now, Galtier can be a very good choice.

    My first choice 'll always be Klopp though.

  10. I say bring in Klopp before one of our rivals do

  12. BINGO! It really is that simple; at this point a trade up is vital because we get big boy outlook, tactics and attract better players........

  13. Brings experience and coming from a french league might better our defense. But Liverpool play more of an attacking play style, so I'm not sure he will fit us tactically, but like the old saying goes, change is good. Klopp or Galtier, as long as it is one of these 2 I think we will start moving forward again.

  14. Other than Klopp, who can we trade up to realistically?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Perhaps De Boer if he's looking for a new challenge. Benitez if we're willing to take a step back. Extremely long shot at Ancelotti.

    But that's about it.

  16. Actually, that's a pretty good point.

  17. anyone but rafa or rogers........id take klopp just because it sounds likw kop
    and is an editors dream.... klopp stuns the kop with utd victory you heard it hear first

  18. bring back kenny .....like ive always said history will see the two finals keeny had in a better light than anything rogers has done

  19. if he strung a few wins it would be logans run

  20. Get Rafa and end this trophy less mediocrity

    ReplyDelete
  21. Exactly.

    There's essentially no one out there other than Klopp who would be deemed an immediate upgrade.

    Therefore, what's the point in making the change if there isn't anyone better.

  22. suprising just how far they had fallen, i remember many great European nights with them featuring.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Right. Although, again, Klopp IS better, so if we have a chance, I can't help but feeling that the time is right. BR will have plenty of other job offerings (like Newcastle) and Klopp will be available.

    ReplyDelete
  24. there are TONS of managers out there who are big upgrades than BR. You just dont know them- Roger Schmidt, Unai Emery, Lucien Favre, De Boer,

    ReplyDelete
  25. kenny was no better than BR.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You can't say that any of those managers is far and away an improvement over Rodgers.

    They are still relatively unknown entities.

    I'm not saying that there aren't better ones out there. I'm saying that other than Klopp, no one else out there is a proven commodity that we could categorically say is an improvement over BR.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would have little issue if we can legitimately get Klopp.

    I just don't believe we can (especially if the Man City job opens up)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Rafa's rubbish! Get over him as there's no way back for him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't see Klopp going to City. It simply doesn't fit his profile as a coach.

    For me, the only realistic destinations in the EPL are LFC, Utd, Arsenal, or Spurs. Utd and Spurs have just recently appointed class coaches, so that makes them unlikely. Arsenal might look to replace Arsene sooner than later, but he's made some improvements this season. We're the only ones without a reason for him to come here. That doesn't make us the most likely, but hey, it's not impossible.

  30. I'm still trying to decide what shape the holes are...

  31. If we are going to be looking for a new manager, surely it has to be Klopp.

  32. Vouchers & Discounts8:48 am, April 21, 2015

    Athletico Madrid manager just signed a new deal but with a £6mill buyout clause.

    Liverpool massive team compared to Athletico & he's mentioned in the past his admiration for the club.

    Diego Simeone the stand out choice for me.

  33. Klopp did well and had some great players but why is his team so far down the table this year, this does worry me. He may have just got lucky with his squad for a couple of years.

    ReplyDelete
  34. BR is not man enough to drop liability in the side (players such as Allen ) let alone standing by their contract. he should be ashamed for over praising young Sterling, Herrera have been Utd best player since they beat spurs but i havnt seen van haal utter single praise

  35. Another pile of fresh click-bait wank from Jaimie K - seriously how you can sleep at night knowing you produce such garbage journalism.

  37. I just can't see Rodgers buying in the class we need .if we end up with Milner, Ings and God knows who else from one or 2 mid table clubs then I don't see us finishing a top 4 ever with Rodgers in charge. He was lucky to inherit Saurez when we did. I just don't think he's got the influence to bring in top class players. We need 2/3 top players in there mid to late twenties to work with our upcoming youngsters . 2 strikers 1 being a top speedy goal scorer . A top solid defensive mid . A right back goalkeeper and a top class centre back . Not asking for a lot am I ? Lol

  38. Which is funny because after we won the FA Cup in his 2nd season we didn't come close to winning another cup under Rafa.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Doubt he'll leave Atletico.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I say Pep should do us a solid, just for kicks.

  41. The French Rodgers. Not a step up.

  42. I guess Balotelli needed a rest after all that scoring he did

  43. I see what you did there.

  45. Dream on Mssr Galtier..
