Boss confirms: Liverpool were 'very close' to signing €5m midfield 'beast'. Try again?

Hull manager Steve Bruce has confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in football: Liverpool tried to sign combative midfielder Mohamed Diame during Kenny Dalglish's ill-fated second stint in charge.

Speaking to The Daily Express this week, Bruce revealed:

"I was with Kenny Dalglish recently and he told me that he was very close to taking him to Liverpool when he was manager there and Diame was out of contract with Wigan."

Liverpool were constantly linked with between 2011 and 2014, and there's plenty of evidence to support Bruce's contention:

* In 2012, Diame told told the Liverpool Echo: “I met with Kenny Dalglish and we talked, but God decided to finish this situation. It is true I was very sad in my head as I was thinking to go there [Anfield]”

* Then, in April 2014, Diame told reporters: "Liverpool? I think my name is still on their wanted list. I don’t hide it, I’m ambitious and I want to join a top-six side. I am 26 years old and it’s time to take that step".

Jamie Redknapp and John Aldridge are fans of Diame:

* After watching him dominate Chelsea's midfield during West Ham's 3-1 victory in December 2013, Redknapp wrote: "He’s a cross between Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure. He overpowered Chelsea’s midfield on Saturday. Can West Ham keep him? He came on a free and has an agreed get-out clause. There will be lots of interest now".

In a column for the Liverpool Echo , last season, Aldo enthused: "I would urge Liverpool to keep tabs on Mohamed Diame. He is a brute of a midfielder. A tremendous player and so strong and powerful in that central role, and he is exactly what the Reds need in there".

Diame has spent the last four months on the sidelines with a knee injury, but he's now back in action, and Bruce is convinced he an lead Hull to safety. On Saturday, he raved:

"Diame's looked immense. He's a top, top player the kid and we've missed him, and he could make a big difference. Physically, if his knee is all right, he's a beast. He could go and play anywhere in the Premier League,"

Diame has a meagre €5m buyout clause in his contract, but has the ship sailed on this particular transfer?

  1. Still not sure what people see in him. very inconsistent. If he had not been linked with us their would be very few reds interested. Just shows how easily we get seduced by the names in the press.

  2. I think we have to move Can into Central mid for season remainder alongside Hendo and adopt a 4 2 31 formation using them as a base to support our pacy attacking mids supplying either Sturridge or Ballotelli. Might as well give him a run of games in his more favored position, will have more license to provide surging forward runs from deep. As for Blackburn I want to see a really attacking line up, just go for it.

    ReplyDelete
  3. We tried that formation earlier in the season. True it wasn't Hendon and Can but Balo wasn't much kop with many of his fans saying he can't play lone striker.

    ReplyDelete
  4. We can do better than Diame. Decent player but nothing special

    ReplyDelete
  5. All in all I think we should get a better manager who are great in transfer market and a winner.

    ReplyDelete
  6. 2-3 years too late! Song, Kondogbia, Schneiderlin are technically better and offer that same drive. But ignoring Diame and Wanyama is one of many numerous gaffs lfc have made in the transfer market.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Chaps lfc are now low balling Henderson, and he said no to the deal. Will he get the same pressure to sign?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Rafa or simeone

    ReplyDelete
  9. Never gonna happen

    ReplyDelete
  10. that's a good one but Won't be much if you're in qualifying still money though.

  11. never say never

  12. Most Liverpool supporters won't be upset with Henderson.Hendo's contract negotiations will just get swept under the carpet, while angry fans vent their frustrations solely in RS' direction.
Jordan Henderson has been voted the Golden boy who can do no wrong.Sterling is the black sheep of our family.

  13. Where are u getting your figures from? United bought only felaini and mata last season. The bulk of their spending was this year. And as for che they've sold a lot.
We've actually bought players and made losses. Dalglish spent more than a hundred million with rodgers spending 150 that's 250+ in 4 years . How many "small" clubs do that?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Illori is on loan but why sign him if he wasn't good enough for your team. He was 20 when we signed him. And about manquillo lfc is paying his wages and there was a loan fee paid. That should make sense to u.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sorry Mr B.R Its time to move on and learn your trade before you can manage a big team like us, and the same goes for you Master R Sterling go and learn your trade.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Boss, it's just rodgers. People want to play for managers with a trophy laden reputation and not some tika taka fraud who's won nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  17. ooop's can you say that LOL

    ReplyDelete
  18. U know what else doesn't make sense? Spending exactly £211,550,000 on a fifth place team. If u wanna know how I got that number u should know that's the amount of money rodgers has spent on signings. Stop making excuses (that's what kopites are good at anytime things don't go our way) and realise that the man has had his chances and he's blown them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The figure is £211,550, 000 that's as much money rodgers has spent on players who have no resale value at all.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Don't you think he'll be saying a different thing inprivate? If players just read what their managers says to the press then they are idiots. He's disappointed, we're disappointed, the players should be as well, and such 'defeatist' words if used to contrast fighting talk behind closed doors could spell out to the players just how short of their own ability they have fallen again, and the high standards they had set prior to the two matches.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Maybe the club ,but not the new owners and their transfer policy ???

    ReplyDelete
  22. I see all the news this morning is about Henderson's contract,
    and Chelsea wanting him .
Why can Liverpool not extend player's contracts without it being dragged through the mud ?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Markovic is Allen's younger, faster step brother and neither can put the ball in the ocean...........

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't get the Diame infactuation..... Johannes Geis.. That'sthe only DM you need to know about... Google him and check him out.. Also get a look at his awesome freekick against Dortmund...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I had a typo. I meant to type 'we CAN'T' score not we can score. Half our roster can kick the ball into the ocean from the beach, like allen, balo, and a slightly lesser degree borini and lambert...........

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agreed , A time for reflection on another season that did not happen
    RIP 2014/2015 .

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have always backed Brendan Rodgers but very worried about THE EXCUSES he has started to come up with - like this mornings cant attract big players cause were out of top four now wheras if we were in top 4 it would be - cant afford to pay wages others pay -The real truth is last summers buys were POOR and he keeps grovelling tp Sterling - BE VERY CAREFUL B R YOU SOUND LIKE A LOSER - Top 4 is still possible so shut up and put up

    ReplyDelete
  28. If Henderson does not sign a new contract this week then tell him point blank HE WILL NEVER BE CAPTAIN - He is nothing special either - a great runner but not much else and he is absolutely rubbish at penalties - so lucky on Saturday - Balo is ten times better on penalties. Again though B R has failed to tie down his favourite player - WHY ??

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well it seemed to be working for them during their run of victories.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Rafa? really! people have short memories. What makes you think Benitez will handle this situation any better. When we lost Alonso to Madrid and Torres to injury (virtually the same situation BR has had), we fell from 2nd in the previous season to 7th. Yet every time we loose a match, you get people coming on here and talking about replacing BR with Benitez.

    ReplyDelete
  31. We need a keeper. Mingolet would only make the bench at our rivals.

    ReplyDelete
  32. BR will make Allen the new captain

    ReplyDelete
  33. Eventually, players will come and go but I suspect those last transfer made by Rafa were bad probably due to Hick & Gillette's money grabbing but at least he got us the Mickey Mouse trophy for good (the pride over manhole) and been challenging in BPL and CL year in year out.

    ReplyDelete
  34. He pretty much ushered Xabi out the door, thinking of replacing him with Gareth Barry if memory serves...Gareth Barry ffs

    ReplyDelete
  35. Keeping the CL trophy and few more as well but what Rafa lacking is BR's gain in giving those youth a chance, just wish our talented youth will have a shot at the first team.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's all about perception. Hendo has worked hard and shown real desire to get to where he's at with Liverpool, especially after his first season. Raheem is a young black boy who has just come into the game who seems to have an inflated view of his own importance. By all accounts Hendo was offered about 80k. He is around 25 and this could quite conceivably be his biggest contract offer in his career, taking him to 30 years of age.
I mention Sterlings colour as history shows that black players don't get the same leeway as their counterparts, deserved or not.

    ReplyDelete
  37. nothing is guaranteed.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thank you Stan! Rafa wanted to replace Xabi with Gareth Barry, think about that for a second, then when Barry snubbed us and went to Manchester city, he bought Aquilani, if ever there was a player unsuited to the premier league! @JockInTheKop, Rafa had us challenging for the title in only one season the rest of the time we were happy just to qualify for the champions league. Look, I'm happy we had Benitez but his time has passed!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree mate, I don't want rafa back either

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think Hendo's age is quite significant aswell... Being offered 80k when the new kid on the block gets offered 50% more for no more in the way of contribution is almost a slap in the face for Hendo...If I was Hendo, I think I would feel a wee bit disrespected aswell... Yeah Hendo may not be the fashionable flair player everyone likes to wet their pants over, but he is probably one of the most important names on the team sheet...He plays every game giving 100%, then he sees Sturridge who spends most of the season on the physio table getting 150k, and doesn't work half as hard when he is fit... But he is the fashionable name that gets the plaudits because he scores the goals Hendo sets up for him... Yeah! I'd turn 80k down aswell.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You've always backed Brendan Rodgers? Are you serious?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Excuses are being rolled out already with regard to what we can expect in the summer...I hate loving LFC sometimes... It just kills me when there seems to be too many, too quick to except second best.... Get of your arse on swoon some players... Shaqiri went to 10th placed Inter in a shite league for christ sake, and all because somebody took the time to speak to the lad, and not send the bloody lawyers...

    ReplyDelete
  43. There is a reason why Diame is playing for Hull and that is because he simply is not good enough. If we now had to go and sign him it will further explain the mediocrity which this is falling under.

    ReplyDelete
  44. From what I hear FSG won't go near Rafa and Simione has just signed a new contract.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wants probably. Diameter no.

    ReplyDelete
  46. So now according to the media Hendo has rejected his latest offer and they reckon he is off to Chelsea. Must be another money grabbing player which we need to get rid of?

Oh I cannot wait for this utterly rubbish season to be over.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I fully agree with you mate!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. which is quite right. I'm not BR biggest fan and he has made a lot of mistakes but I refuse to believe that there are many managers out there that could have done a better job than he is doing. When the great SAF lost Ronaldo, United performances dropped and they lost the title. It took Alex Ferguson a season to get United back to previous standard. When Arsene Wenger lost RVP, Arsenal went from looking set to challenge for the title to fighting Tottenham for fourth. If my memory serves me right they only secured fourth on the last day of the season after Tottenham have thrown away a 9 point lead. This season Jurgen Klopp is finding out how hard it is to replace an influential striker, Dortmund have been flirting with relegation all season. The list goes on and on and on.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Inflated view of his own importance?

So players at his age are not allowed to have ambition? If he is not going to win a trophy this season after LFC spending £120m last summmer and failing miserably by bringing in players who have sent us into more excuses of transition then my friend it is unlikely Raheem believes he will be winning trophies next season, well not under Rodgers...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Absolutely mate. But some people take that as accepting second best or something rather than just being rational and intelligent.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Maybe he only got 8 percent vote because he hasn't been good enough. I didn't vote for him but it had nothing to do with his contract.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The root of the problem once again is our poor display in the transfer market. If it wasn't for the fact we signed so much tripe, Sterling would know his place. He can see , like everyone one else that he's still our go to man. Against arsenal, he looked like the our only dangerous player. "Let's give the ball to Sterling. " Gerrard, at that age never had to carry so much responsibility. The real insult is Rodgers who tried to manipulate the media in the first place by throwing out snippets of information. "He's ignored an incredible offer." It has back fired big style because of what I mentioned earlier.
But CO is spot on though, notice this cocky, flashy, arrogant tag is associated with black players. Here's a few Andy Cole, Sturridge & Sterling. Hendo has shown that AL footballers look after their interest.
On a final note, I read an article in the echo that suggested that lfc has now become a selling club based on the recent testimonial match. All the top ex players either went on to win higher honours, Alanso, Torres oe seeking higher honours, Saurez. Our sustained underachievement for decades has rendered us a stepping stone club. Just a reminder to those who say sell Sterling who cares we have Ibe or Ojo. Don't worry in a few years it will be ground hog day. This will continue with all our bright talent then we'll be just like spurs.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Not surprised Hendo has rejected that contract, nor do I blame him. Don't you think 80K/week is (comparatively) low for the club Captain, a player entering the prime of his career? Sturridge is on 150K, spending most of his time on the sidelines. Even Johnson is on 120K. I can see that an offer of 80K/week might, in Hendo's eyes, considerably understate his importance to the team.

    ReplyDelete
  54. But I though Henderson said weeks ago that he has decided to only sign a new deal at the start of next season?

The media are toying with the fans. Cannot really blame Sterling for doing an interview through the BBC without permission from the club because put yourself in his shoes, would you not be sick and tired of reading about yourself being lambasted by the media day after day and then being called every name under the sun by football fans?

  60. Well doesn't seem likely it's due to footy either.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm certainly not anti-Sterling, like so many seem to be. I agree there's so much media guff surrounding his contract that it's difficult to know what the truth is, so I've tried to remain impartial. But I do think the approach of the two players has been markedly different. I believe Hendo wants to stay at Liverpool, he said so only last week, he just believes he deserves a better contract than what has been offered. I agree, and it seems a natural part of the negotiation process before he eventually signs. With Sterling the signs are more worrying; there has been no declaration of his desire to stay, the implication being that he might turn down any contract, no matter how large, in order to secure a move away. I'm hoping that isn't the case of course, as I rate him highly.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Rumours going around that Rodgers called a meeting after the Arsenal match and accused many players of not wanting to play for him...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Do you see any of the current players have the potential to challenge for all front next season? We can't even attract any potential world class players for the last 2 season or should I said BR don't have what it take to attract those players. BR is just an Arsene Wenger in the making, always near challenging for the title or trophy but never get there, maybe once or twice.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Players want to win something mate- don't blame em for not signing. Allen on 45k and many others getting money for contributing nothing yet they get a pass. Toure Lambert etc - ah balls to them

    ReplyDelete
  65. I read this too; more media bullshit maybe?

I hope he did give them a good old fashioned bollocking though. The indiscipline lately, whether positional, tactical or rush-of-blood- to-the-head style, has been pretty shocking. They're grown men, and should be able to take criticism without crying about it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Not one player at liverpool deserves big money contracts. This season has been an absolute shambles, for the money that was spent in the summer. I blame one person brendan rodgers you're time is up, liverpool job is to big for you.

    ReplyDelete
  67. And so has it been shocking that Rodgers sticks with square pegs round holes and a system that has been found out many weeks ago?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Maybe he only got 8 percent vote because he hasn't been good enough? Sterling leads the way in goals scored, chances created, assists and shots on target.

That might not be good enough for you, but i think he should win player of the season or at least take more than 8% of a vote.If anyone of our other attackers leads production in so many categories next season, they will get more than 8 percent.

    ReplyDelete
  69. True but not BR :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. I don't know why you keep mentioning £120m like is supposed to mean something. last summer we spent £38m net! Arsenal, City, United and Chelsea all had a bigger net spend. We are 5th in the table which is exactly where we are meant to be. You don't sack a manager for not overachieving! Our net spend does not guarantee us a traophy, it does not even guarantee us a top four finish. The only way we can punch above our weight is to buy potential and develop them into superstars. Which is where BR comes in. It is a gamble but when it does pay off like it did with Suarez, the team can overachieve like with did with last season. The issue we have this season is that our upcoming superstars (Sterling, Coutinho and in some ways Sturridge) are still in the process of development.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Have you watched the full BBC interview?

He has even confirmed that he turned down £100K a week, not because of money but because he has ambition. He spoke about CL qualification making his decision easier. Guess what, CL is not happening.

The lady who interview Sterling mentioned Rodgers being the culprit for this media debacle and it all started when Rodgers ran his mouth about the "incredible deal" Sterling has been offered and she was 100% correct.

He said that he will make his decision at the start of next season and quite honestly do not blame him because he can go join any top team irrespective of money and win trophies next season. At LFC under Rodgers what is he going to get? Maybe another season of being a square peg in a round hole and no guarantee of trophies. So why should he accept a contract at LFC when he can go play elsewhere, win trophies and get more than what LFC have offered. It is not rocket science.

If Mourinho had to sign Sterling is he going to play him at RWB? So it just goes to show how utterly useless we have been in the transfer market over the last three seasons when square pegs round holes are the order of the day after spending well over £200m in three seasons under Rodgers.

I seee it as Sterling waiting to see what the plan is for next season at LFC and if that plain includes Rodgers still being at the club then he will be off.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I mean the 'rule' is not ever to say never, but you use it in the rule itself. So it kinda makes no sense.. Nothing personal, just like pointing that out to people that say 'never say never'

    ReplyDelete
  73. ;) CHEERS MATE.

    ReplyDelete
  74. More excuses of transition. It is going to be no different if Rodgers is in charge next season. It has already been proven in 3 seasons that Rodgers is able to attract top players.

We have signed many young talented players but most clubs are able to sign young talented players.

It is just excuse after excuse when it comes to Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  75. There is a well researched theory by the Tompkins times that says that the winners of the league tend to be the teams with the highest price on the field and in the squad and this is also reflected in wages. They go back decades and their is a general formula that says those big spenders tend to be the ones that are challenging and finishing in champions league spots. FSG are not willing to pay the massive money for big names nor the massive wages that comes with it. One reason Winger is only ever in the CL spot is because they tend to have the fourth highest squad price and in top four for wages. Ours is fifth in both. That won't change under a new manager.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Couts is my choice for our player of the year, but I think that his poor form in first 10 games or so cost us the 4th place. he was so poor in pressing and tracking back(specially compared to what he can do, seen now), and had too little gem passes to compensate his simple pass mistakes. And those simple passes are what annoys me the most in our game by the way.. So my point is 5th is not where we should be based on quality, 4th is the minimum..

    ReplyDelete
  77. Rodgers can only dream of signing someone like Suarez

    ReplyDelete
  78. We were lucky to penCouts for 70. In the mad world of football wages Hendo and Sterling deserve a 100.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Did you read what I wrote! There is no talk of transition, we are 5th because based on squad and money spent that's where we deserve to be. If we finish higher than 5th we have overachieved, which is what we did last year. You don't sack a manager for not overachieving and I suspect FSG know this. If we are going to overachieve and challenge for the title again next year then we must keep the squad together and let BR work his magic which is what happened last season.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I read exactly what you wrote.

"The issue we have this season is that our upcoming superstars (Sterling, Coutinho and in some ways Sturridge) are still in the process of development."

    What do you call that?

So why were Coutinho, Sterling and Sturridge doing a decent job last season too?

How is next season going to be different if Rodgers is still in charge? It will be very interesting to see your response to this post.

    ReplyDelete
  81. That luck will last a few weeks because if Jordan Henderson gets wages of 100k+ Coutinho's agent will be knocking on the door looking for a wage increase.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well I think it will be at least 5 years till anyone gets a chance to sign new Suarez. Had he not bitten Chielini(that is not something that was supposed to be unlikely) and had we won the title(and we would've if Hendo didn't get that red) he would've been Ballon d'or now so...

    ReplyDelete
  83. As he should, and I am on his side. But the current contract will allow us to rise his buy out clause and keep him longer and/or sell him higher. And me thinks he could be staying here his entire career..

    ReplyDelete
  84. Well they are in the process of development aren't they? Coutinho, Sterling and Sturridge were doing a decent job last season because we had Suarez, which raised the quality of the whole team. Without Suarez, our quality decreases which is the reason why we are 5th. We are not 5th because we are underachieving, we are because we have the 5th best squad in the league. To go higher than 5th we either buy a superstar or wait till some of our players develop into one. Changing a manager won't change a thing IMHO

    ReplyDelete
  85. You're wasting your time mate, I've had this exact argument with Logan countless times. His mind is closed

    ReplyDelete
  86. How are things going to be any different under Rodgers next season?

It is excuse after excuse after excuse. Simple.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hopefully Coutinho stays, but i fear one great consistent season for Liverpool with improved production.Real Madrid and Barcelona will be all over him like flies on sh4t and he will go.

    ReplyDelete
  88. That of course is your opinion. Have we not been over this?

    ReplyDelete
  89. We have. I was trying to save Emmanuel from the same fate

    ReplyDelete
  90. Well we will have this discussion again once Rodgers is shown the door once the season has ended then we will see who is who.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Where have you and Ash read this? My dad told me this, too, but my Googling doesn't seem to be up to scratch. A link, please. :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  93. And if we do change manager and it is no difference?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Shared was set up to go through under Hodgeson. Something Kenny himself admitted. So I think your talking guff.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Nobody is a Nostradamus on here but if Emmanuel cannot tell me how things are going to different next season under Rodgers then what is the point in keeping him?

    ReplyDelete
  96. I heard Cout got 100k

    ReplyDelete
  97. Did Rodgers sign Suarez?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Rodgers signed all of the players that joined prior to his arrival at the club right :-)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  100. Wrong answer on a retoric question, just cause I am bored, chill out..

    ReplyDelete
  101. Maybe someone more important than Emanuel(no disrespect to him) can?

    ReplyDelete
  102. That is why I was being sarcastic ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  103. Don't feed him. He's only trying to manipulate you into criticising Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Not when the question is being avoided even by Jay Jay...

    ReplyDelete
  105. FSG - Probably rightly have one main target - get Stadium built - worry about rest after - it will be interesting to see if they put us up FOR SALE then - No hard feelings if they do cause without F S G we would be history - never forget that

    ReplyDelete
  106. Is this Rodgers boy still harassing you get out there and give him a beating or i will be smacking you with the fry pan.

God knows there is always the foul odour of it when you always mention this Rodgers fellow.

  110. Oh yes. Not even you can answer that question mate.

Point out where anyone has said things will be different next season.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Better give some more advices to your son ma'am, he needs it..

    ReplyDelete
  112. Avoiding the question.

Where has anyone said that things are going to be different next season?

    ReplyDelete
  113. You daft? Check your replies, I ain't doing it for you.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Avoiding the question again and again.

Where has anyone said that things are going to be different next season?

And then what is the point of keeping Rodgers?

    ReplyDelete
  115. Avoiding to see the answer.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Stop the sarcasm or i am going to take your computer.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I have not avoided to see any answer.

Emmanuel said "To go higher than 5th we either buy a superstar or wait till some of our players develop into one. Changing a manager won't change a thing IMHO"

Afterwards I asked him "How are things going to be any different UNDER RODGERS next season?"

How has my question been answered when there has been no answers?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Hasn't been answered by him.

    ReplyDelete
  119. So who then? When did i ask the question and who has answered it?

    ReplyDelete
  120. You see, that is the problem here. Cannot face the facts but instead just say Logan is talking 'shite' etc.

We shall see at the end of the season ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  121. By next season, the players we brought in last summer would have a year playing together. As long as we keep the the core of our team we will be better next season. BR has shown that when the players get used to his methods, the team becomes greater than the sum of its parts. It's funny, when BR was appointed everyone (including FSG) said that if he is able to get us into the champions league in three years or challenging for the top four he will be seen as doing a good job. He got us into the top four in his second season and this season we are 5th with 7 games to go. Why will FSG change the manager

    ReplyDelete
  122. we did play about half the games of the other teams though by not being in cup games.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Never mind - found a story.

    ReplyDelete
  124. That is the only problem- he overachieved in the second, but from third on he was supposed to be a regular in CL. If we don't qualify this season, our chances will be slimmer for the 4th

    ReplyDelete
  125. yeah just been reminded of the quotes from BR after Spurs spent the Bale money about any team that spend 100m should be challenging for the title.....

    ReplyDelete
  126. "To go higher than 5th we either buy a superstar or wait till some of our players develop into one. Changing a manager won't change a thing IMHO"

Above is what you have said. I askeed you how things are going to be different next season based on what you have said.

So let's put it into perspective here.

    1. We have to wait for some players to develop into superstars. My view that is it will not happen next season.

    2. Buy a superstar under Rodgers? Who, without CL? and no guarantee of any success?

So now answer the question. How are things going to be different under Rodgers next season.

    ReplyDelete
  127. http://tomkinstimes.com/2015/04/were-all-gonna-die/ wonderful article...but still won't stop my game time outbursts on here.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Well Logan that's where you and differ. You don't believe the first option is going to happen next season and I believe it might. We both know that FSG are not going to buy any superstars so the only option left is to develop our own. The problem is assuming that a new manager will automatically transform our players into superstars or attract superstars despite our wage structure. Again as I said earlier, based on money spent and wages we are 5th so being 5th on the actual table is not underachieving. You don't sack a manager for not overachieving.

    ReplyDelete
  129. You cannot answer can you?

And to suggest that FSG are not willing to buy a superstar whe the made available to Rodgers almost £120m this season is rubbish especially when we were full blast after Sanchez.

So it is a lie that FSG will not sign superstars and nothing but excuses are being made for Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Why did you think Sanchez did not want to come to LFC, you think it's all because of Rodgers. Sanchez wanted to go to Arsenal but if FSG really wanted him they could have offered him ridiculously high wages until he changed his mind, just like man city did when they didn't have champions league. Anyway there is no point in continuing this discussion, you believe Rodgers needs to be sacked because he is somehow doing a bad job and I believe that based on our position on the wage table and our net spend last summer we are exactly where should be. Have a good day

    ReplyDelete
  131. Ha, Rodgers confirmed that Sanchez rejected us which means FSG would have made money available to sign him otherwise Sanchez would have never rejected us.

You are making excuses my friend.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Exposing her furry carpet.

    ReplyDelete
  137. You know I have always rejected to get it on with you. Not my style mummy but it is costing me too much to fulfil your desires by paying for men to get it on with you from the street so it is time you paid some of that money back to me ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  138. I will give your money back tomorrow i know you have been saving very hard for the gender change operation.

  139. Br has spent 211,550,000 million in his tenure. Wasn't he the one who said if u spend 100 million u should be challenging for the title? Well he's spent more than double and achieved what?
Not to forget the money king Kenny wasted 111,280,000. That's more than 320 million spent by 2 managers. What else do want from fsg

    ReplyDelete
  140. Br has spent 211,550,000 million in his tenure. Wasn't he the one who said if u spend 100 million u should be challenging for the title? Well he's spent more than double and achieved what?

  141. Who cares if he can't, with again no disrespect to him?!?

    ReplyDelete
  142. So the Hodge is a massive draw as a manager but the fella who led us as close to a league title as anyone in decades is less of a draw? Yes I will think what I like. I think your a plonka.

    ReplyDelete
  143. How about the latest report about Rodgers blasting the players saying "You're not playing for me".

In most instances, I'd chalk this up to tabloid gossip and take it with a grain of salt, but I can actually envision him saying it which leads me to believe it's not that far-fetched of a story.

    ReplyDelete
  144. who said Hodge was a massive draw? Not me. If I'm a plonka then you're a wonka And Toure is still tripe

    ReplyDelete
  145. At least get his bloody name right. Jeez!!

    ReplyDelete
  146. So care to guess which players he called out?

    ReplyDelete
  147. So gents is that enough to keep faith in BR for another season; ie would you trust him with another £100m in the summer?

    ReplyDelete
  148. Rodgers will have worked with all the new players for a season. They will have gotten time to get used to each other and what they want. There will be a full preseason so it will give them time to work on obvious problems from this year. There will be less of a transition needed than with a new manager.
But let's look at what we can assume from next year if we do change. The manager won't be an Ancelloti type, more likely a De boer. There will have to be a period of transition as players and manager learn to work with each other and this is more difficult even with a full preseason due to all the commercial friendlies etc. We will still be the fifth most expensive team with the fifth highest wages and the distance between us and fourth will likely grow from the sizable gap that already exists. The four teams above us now will be odds on to finish above us again next season. Teams like Spurs will have had their transition season and will be stronger.
This is just off the top of my head. I am sure there are more issues if I gave it more thought.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Good and fair analysis.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Just other things to do. Answer should be there but did it through discuss and it is not up yet.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Alas it hurts me to say that BR is no match to Mourinho, either in stats (winning games, trophies) or in approach to management (strategy, mental toughness, player management).

However Mourinho does it, he gets results which after 3 years BR has not for LFC.

Question now is how much more time to you give BR?

My view is his taxi is calling him..

    ReplyDelete
  152. No seems like you didn't understand his answer.

    ReplyDelete
  153. My point is if Rodgers had been in charge Suarez would still have joined. I use Hodgeson to make the point that is had nothing to do with the manager, Suarez would have joined anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  154. At some point the EPL has to take note of how other sports are run and operated and seriously consider both a salary and transfer cap.

Additionally, if the EPL is so awash with TV money, why can't ticket prices (both home and away) also be capped.

Or am I simply reminiscing about the the socialist roots of LFC..

    ReplyDelete
  155. Absolutely agree about tickets but one League adds a wage cap and all the players go to another League.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:46 pm, April 06, 2015

He is saying if FSG offered 200k a week he would join .
FSG have to do that little etra.

FSG matched/small increase on Arsenal wage offer , but to get these players againts a stronger tema you have to
    absolutley smash Arsenal offer
    200k or 250k

    ReplyDelete
  157. Well wage cap on wages combined? It would allow teams to pay silly wages to those worthy, but not to give them all top wages. Plus I think that not one English player can get more playing for Valencia than for Newcastle..

    ReplyDelete
  158. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:49 pm, April 06, 2015

Exactly , that has even frustrated me .
Like i always answer his question but he says
    "No you're not"
    or

    "You are changing the topic"

he reads what he wants i guess like Wenger only sees what he wnats

    ReplyDelete
  159. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:57 pm, April 06, 2015

I do not think we need cl to sign some of our targets
Like Vietto , Firmino,Anderson and Kovacic they are very young
i will be up for them because tehy are not one season wonders
If Sterling and Henderson leaves that is all the money we need

    ..............................................Vietto
    ....................Anderson..............................Firmino
    ...............................................Coutinho
    .................................Kovacic...................Can

    Bench: sturridge,Origi, Ibe,Lucas

I would be excited to see three Brazillians that talented play
While Kovacica nd Can can be lethal together both box to box and skillful

    ReplyDelete
  160. Firming has had two Really good season but not much more. Same for Vietto. Henderson and Sterling have had around the same amount of time playing well. But the difference is they have done it in this League which those other pkayers have not yet. I don't know much But Anderson but would be surprised if his stats were much different.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:01 pm, April 06, 2015

he told you why things will be different:

    1) the 7 new players will ahve settled ,
    2) they will learn Rodgers style of play and Rodgers will learn them
    3) He would learn from his mistakes from this season like most people do and avoid the "transition phase"

this si what Jaya jay said summed up

    ReplyDelete
  162. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:06 pm, April 06, 2015

Sterling leaving is inevitable though .

He is one of the most highly rated players in the world apparently his market value is bigger then Neymar and Bale

that is why 50m+ is being brandished around

Liverpool no longer satisfy his ambition , we are not his "dream club" that he was eluding to at the BBC conference.

Henderson i am not that fond of anymore, he has real limitations in his game
especially in terms of controlling the midfield , Hendo has never done that

I honestly think Liverpool ahve to get rid of players that just work hard like Hendo and Allen
Real and barca do not buy players for their engine but their skill and product
hendo has got his goals and assist but his transitional play is still of a low standard

    ReplyDelete
  163. No, he said FSG will not sign superstars which is untrue. End of the story plus he cannot give a simple yes or no.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Anderson would be wonderful addition. Fast, skillful, plays in high tempo pressing style(eventhough) it is Italy... I have a feeling he would make an instant impact- he is like Ibe..

    ReplyDelete
  165. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:12 pm, April 06, 2015

Which they ahve not so far
    Bar Luis Suarez

    ReplyDelete
  166. His point was they would not pay enough to get them to choose Liverpool over another club which still stands. So rather than FSG nit being willing to try they are unwilling to do or pay what it takes. So they will not get superstars. He did say that in his post you were replying to.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Bale went for something like ninety and I am sure Naymar was about fifty. So their market value may be less but Sterling's is less too.
We are not shopping in the same aisle as Real and Barca.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Try explaining that to some on here.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:24 pm, April 06, 2015

Who has Wengers pedigree that wouold come here?

No top manager want to work at lfc because:

    1) FSG will sell your best player eg Suarez,Torres and Sterling , like tehy said tehy would in interview with Claire Rourke
    2) They will tell you to buy players under 25, they for example wont sign Cuadrados or fabregas liek Mourinho did at Chelsea because of no sell on value
    3) They pay the manager small value , rodgers earns 2m only a year while Wenger earns 7.5m a year , Guardiola 14m a year

    ReplyDelete
  170. They haven't even progressed in Serie A since his arrival, still 10th.. But yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  171. I'm glad that will forever remain in the 'what if' category

    ReplyDelete
  172. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:30 pm, April 06, 2015

    Why?

    Mkhitaryan 2013 top target

    Salah 2014 January top target

    Sanchez 2014 summer top target

are way better players especially Sanchez

Imagine if Rodgers got what he wanted:

    ............................Sturridge/Serling
    Salah................................................Sanchez
    .........................Mkhitaryan/Coutinho
    ....................Henderson...........Can

    ReplyDelete
  173. It's a good question and I'm not certain I have my own answer on it yet. I certainly wouldn't trust him with another 100m.

In my opinion (and statistically backed-up), every year under BR, we have typically played poorly in the first few months of the season while being near top of the league in the second half of the season.

So why does it take his teams four months to get going?

Our season is in peril right now because of the first four months of this season, not the last two games. We were able to make up a substantial amount of ground with that terrific run after mid-December, but we can't be relying on those runs every year because at some point the well will run dry.

So to make a long story short, I wouldn't trust him with another 100m. But I don't know that a) we'll get anyone better at this point, or b) that whoever replaces him would be able to get anything more out of the roster as it exists.

In my opinion, the only way BR leaves here is if we have a poor run over the last 7 games, and by that I mean collect something like 7 points out of a possible 21.

    ReplyDelete
  174. The possibilities are endless.

Kolo, Sturridge, Sterling, Henderson, Moreno, Can, Balotelli, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I personally dont see why top 4 is impossible. united could easily lose the next two games v city and chelsea and if we win ours that cuts the gap to two points.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I have watched him play every game and he hasn't impressed me that much to be honest.sure his stats are fairly decent but they should be a lot better.his finishing is very poor and his decision making is not good enough either. Maybe when you compare him to a lot of our other players his stats are pretty decent but most of them have had poor seasons.when you watch him play does he really impress you that much? I voted for skrtel for the simple reason has he has been fairly consistent unlike sterling and most of the squad..

    ReplyDelete
  177. is it any wonder...rogers seems to have a flavour of the month policy on selection it must be like having a 6 year old as a manager

    ReplyDelete
  178. I know players have a part to play...But who brings players to the club.. Manager has the biggest say in transfer business..If his players are not performing to their potential , then it's down to manager who made a wrong signing in the very beginning!
BR implements weak tactics which has been proven time and again when his team(and formation) is bashed by quality opposition.
See how Van Gaal has turned the season for Man utd. even though his squad was under-performing. I bet he'll come stronger next season ,and Manutd will be serious contender for the trophy.
A good manager can do wonders for a club. FSG must spend money on a proven manager. BR is still an amateur in the business

    ReplyDelete
  179. Should we all just give up then and love the mediocrity. How lame is that . BR has had more than enough time and if he didn't enjoy the sound of his own voice so much supporters might have a touch more patience. All clubs buy players young or old, we have some £150m worth of dross that BR and FSG have bought that no one else in the top 8 would even consider. good players and good manager = success normally and we have to try and strive for that . you can't plan to FAIL can you as you have eluded to in your statement suggesting what if. The book of excuses must be near the end !!

    ReplyDelete
  180. Won nothing and don't look near to either . I will not accept all the negativity that we could not find a more eminent manager than BR. There a loads with better CV's not sure they would have someone put a 180 page dossier together telling FSG how they were going to re invent football! Carragher knew who BR is and does SG, LS and all of the other quality players we had before the captain of the Titanic came to town.

    ReplyDelete
  181. You missed my point spectacularly. Hope it was by will not just ignorance. I could guess though.

    ReplyDelete
  182. What exactly is your point,Your postings are as ignorant as your reply. I can guess exactly your thoughts . Not worth further comment as you feel you know it all. Like you know FSG yeah right!

    ReplyDelete
