Sign Me, Brendan: 'World-class' €15m 'Liverpool fan' confirms transfer 'offer' and 'contact' with interested clubs

In February, reports in France claimed that Liverpool had offered 'world-class' Marseille star Andre Ayew a pre-contract agreement, and with the summer transfer window just around the corner, Ayew is once again making it clear that he wants a move to Anfield.

Ayew has been linked with a move to Liverpool many times in the past, and in an interview this week, the €15m-rated attacker enthused:

“All my life I have been a Liverpool fan. I have had a lot of different offers from different clubs [and] there has been contact. I will make a decision soon. It would be an honour play there"

Ayew also revealed his preference for Liverpool in an interview last season, when he told Telefoot:

"It [The Premier league] is a league I always think of. I am Ghanaian and an English speaker, and I have a strong preference for England. As for Liverpool - I followed them as a child"

Ayew's versatility probably makes him an appealing option for Brendan Rodgers. He can play as a winger, or a striker, but is he prolific enough, though? Stats for the last few years:

* 2010-11: 13 goals/3 assists in 51 appearances.
* 2011-12: 16 goals/4 assists in 39 apps.
* 2012-13: 13 goals/5 assists in 45 apps.
* 2013-14: 8 goals/4 assists in 29 apps.
* 2014-15: 8 goals/5 assists in 24 apps.
* Totals: 61 goals/21 assists in 188 apps.
* Goal/Assist every 2.3 games.

Ayew has been at Marseille since 2007, and at the age of 25, the time is clearly right for him to test himself at a bigger club.

Additionally, there's very little risk involved as Ayew is available for free in the summer, so it's basically a no-lose situation.

That said, I'm sure he'll demand a big signing-on feel, and substantial wages, but that's a little easier to swallow in the absence of a transfer fee.

    Not good enough. He won't improve our first team. Although I'd prefer him on the bench than Balo, Borini or Ricky.

  2. don't like him, he has a bit of an ego and disciplinary problem not the kind of player we need at Liverpool right now.

  3. Before buying/selling any players in the summer, I'd look to resolve the manager situation as soon as the season is finished. Basically it comes down to whether FSG would trust BR with another £100m kitty (including any revenue generated from sales).

    My own view would be you cannot trust BR with that based on the performance of the last 6 transfer windows, which would lead to seeking a new manager. Of the ones available, it would seem Rafa and Klopp would be the two leading contenders.

    As much as I'd like Rafa to return, something in the back of my head is saying you should never go back (ref King Kenny) - which means we should try and go all out to entice Klopp who must surely be extremely interested.

  4. As an addendum, I'd hope FSG could also find a home amongst the coaching staff for John Barnes and Carra, with a view of re-building the boot room and succession planning.

  7. I knew it wouldn't be long before people started calling out for Klopp now he's handed in his resignation at Dortmund.... Remember,Klopp can't keep his best players either, and Dortmund are currently 10th in the Bundesliga... Upgrade, what upgrade.

  8. Absolutely agree with this idea, I don't know why we don't do more to encourage ex stars to coach the young un's.... They do it in Holland, and thy have an amazing record for coaching youth....Something we should definately consider.

  10. OK - who what would you prefer?

    Stick with BR or someone else?

  11. It amazes me that John Barnes was probably our best player after King Kenny - yet we've never been able to find a way to utilise his knowledge and his enthusiasm for the game.

  12. Honestly, I'd stick rather than twist... Brendan haas his squad now, he just needs those finishing touches to bring it all together.... Of course, that requires a very good transfer window, so fingers are crossed on that one....
    But, if we change manager now, not only do we start again with a new philosphy/approach, but we would probably need a huge shake up in playing staff to enable any new manager to stamp his mark on the team... Coaching staff will probably change aswell..... I just think that we should be wary of being too hasty in changing managers just when it looks like Brendan may be on the verge of putting together a decent competitive side.... Ask me again in December what I think...

  13. I love John Barnes, my all time favourite Liverpool player... He could do wonders for us working with Sterling and Ibe....Or though I think Ibe has more John Barnes about im than Sterling...

  14. Normally, I'd agree with you - give the manager time and he'll come good.

    However, please tell me honestly, if we give BR £100m in the summer, will we have a chance of winning the EPL next year?

    Alas my answer is no for several reasons - the main one of which is by missing out on CL we will simply not attract the type of players needed to move ahead of Chelsea or the others next year.

    This leads to a glum outcome that we as fans simply need to accept winning the EPL is out of the question for the foreseeable future and our best hope each year is try and pinch 4th place now and again.

    The alternative would be to close out the BR chapter after 3 years, and give the next guy a chance.

  15. Klopp has lost players because of lack of financial power which hopefully LFC can provide. He has replaced Kagawa,Sahin,Gotze and many others but losing Lewandowski and having so many injuries was a task too big. He might not be the best option but he is good at replacing quality with quality.

  16. I know - let's start the John Barnes love fest ;-)

  17. Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he will be leaving Dortmund. Act now FSG!!!

  18. So that's two votes then Logan ;-)

  19. We will be lucky to have Klopp. Not many can walk into a club that was struggling i.e. Dortmund and win the Bundesliga twice in a row. Plus he took Dortmund to the CL final too.

    If we do not get him then somebody else will.

  20. Don't think Klopp is a good fit for LFC .Only manager who I would want to replace BR with is Ancelotti who I think will be available in the Summer . However he wouldn't come with the owners we have and their current policy. No doubt he is lined up for MC anyway .
    Rodgers suits FSG and if he goes his replacement will only be much of the same so what's the point ?

  21. With his excellent English, I am sure he'd be keen to land a top job in the EPL next year.

    The other top job on offer in the summer will be the one at Man City - and I think Rafa is almost a dead cert to get that, since the Sheikhs won't be able to land either of 1st choices (Guardiola or Ancelotti).

  22. Why is that then ?

  28. PSG IS a big international club right now, bigger than Liverpool. You can bring all the past accolades but it won't change the fact that most players would chose PSG over Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  29. That is not the parameter of what makes an international big club. If you ask someone with little knowledge about football who PSG are, they'd struggle for an answer. You'd have a lot more success if you asked about Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Actually, people with little knowledge would know more about PSG.

  31. ...What?! That's absurd.
