Anfield-bound: LFC desperate to sign 'amazing' €16m goal-machine. BR confident. Done Deal soon apparently

Earlier this month, Villareal striker Luciana Vietto confirmed that he'd consider a transfer to Liverpool this summer if the Reds make him a 'very good' offer, and with his Agent also hinting that a move to Anfield is possible, the Argentine star is now reportedly LFC's main transfer priority.

According to reports this week:

* Liverpool want to sign Vietto ‘as soon as possible’.
* He is now allegedly LFC's top transfer target.
* Liverpool will put in an official bid 'shortly'
* Rodgers is 'confident' of closing a deal.

When specifically asked about Liverpool's interest in early-March, €16m-rated Vietto told Spanish newspaper AS:

"If these great teams come forward and make an offer we’ll see. The offer would first have to be very good, but it would be very good for me and good for Villarreal."

Soon after, Vietto's agent, Jorge Cysterpiller confirmed that Liverpool are actively trying to sign Vietto:

"Big clubs are watching Vietto. He could sign for Liverpool, we know that he is admired by the Reds, as well as Real Madrid and two Bundesliga clubs. He could leave Villarreal in the summer"

Vietto has 20 goals/8 assists in 40 games for Villareal this season (including 13 goals/assists in 10 games in the Europa League), which is an impressive record for a 21-year old.

Vietto is often labelled the 'new Sergio Aguero', and the youngster admits that he wants to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot. In a recent interview, he enthused:

"It is great to be compared with players like that. I would love to be half as good as 'Kun' Agüero. He is a great player and he shows it every day. As I said I would love to be a player like him"

Vietto is certainly held in high regard. Over the last six months, he's received effusive praise from all sides, and here are a few examples:

* Marcelino (Villarreal coach): "Vietto is a great player who is playing exceptionally well. His adaptation and performances have been far better than we expected. You always have to be sensible with young players, but it's obvious that he has plenty more room to develop."

* Luis Zubeldia (Ex-Racing Club de Avellaneda coach): "Vietto is different. He has the face of a young boy but he does amazing things on the pitch."

* Diego Milito: "He is a very impressive player – one of the best to emerge in a long, long time."

A front-line next season of Sturridge, Ings, Vietto, and Origi looks pretty tasty, and there's a natural age/experience based pecking order there:

* Sturridge
* Ings
* Vietto
* Origi

There's a lack of European/big-league experience there, though, and if Sturridge gets injured again, will Liverpool be able to rely on Ings, Vietto, and Origi to get the job done?

  1. Just read Barca have supposedly opened negotiations - how many strikers do they need?

  2. Minus Ing's spot for Memphis Depay or Roberto Fermino.

  3. how can they open negotiations if they are banned from transfer until 2016?

  4. Just curious... how often do teams agree to deals before the conclusion of a season?

    I feel like it's talked about a lot on here (i.e. deal done soon), but rarely actually happens at the time.

    Is it that deals are done and not announced, or deals are simply not done.

  12. I've been wondering though, why have we been the only club linked with Firmino if he's that good?

  19. I like the look of Vietto and we know Origi will be here in the summer. Personally I would look at Lacazette instead of Ings. He is a little older so more likely to step up sooner rather than later.

    The main consideration would be potential Argentinian superstar or Ings, who is more likely to adapt yo Liverpool quicker as he knows teh English game better.

  21. SIVO sounds good, Jaimie, though I fee we could do with an experienced marksman in there. I vote for SIVOB.

  22. I forgot about Depay. Make that SVDOB.

  24. European experience is not a priority re: incoming players at the moment. We're not even guaranteed of Europe yet. If we just keep qualifying for Europe, our players can get the experience that way.

  26. We're told, you'll never win anything with kids, but I'm liking this policy of getting young players (relatively) cheaply, rather paying the earth for "stars" that might not deliver.

  27. true, we are only a couple of points behind the red mancs and four behind the blue mancs, and look at all the big name stars with european expirience they both have, not doing much better than us.

  28. They can sign players, the player just can't play for them until after their ban. Some weird loophole

  29. Problem is that beggars can't be choosers

  30. Sometimes deals seem to be agreed or near enough and it's a bit of an open secret, such as Costa to Chelsea was last year but I take you're point, the ratio of deals that are actually done compared to what's reported is very slim

    ReplyDelete
  31. I guess it just depends on whether those kids stay and transform into top shelf players or not

  32. Am I the only one who's not really bothered by the Atkinson appointment? We should be good enough to win despite the referee.

  33. I am really looking forward to this summer's transfer window ,as their seems to be alot of really good talent available

    What with all these young strikers Danny Ings , Luciana Vietto , Memphis Depay , Roberto Fermino and Lacazette now back on the market .

    I HOPE that Liverpool buy's wisely in the summer !!!!!

  42. True; we are still in fifth, though, so I'm hoping our form next season picks up where we are now.
