Sign Me, Brendan: Bordeaux 'leader' confirms he's 'always' wanted 'Liverpool' transfer. Replace Sakho/Lovren?

Over the summer, West Ham actively pursued a deal for Bordeaux captain Ludovic Sane, but it appears that the 'top-class' Senegalese defender only has eyes for one club. =

During a televised interview on Monday, 27-year old Sane revealed that he covets a move to Anfield. He told BeIn Sport:

"It is true that England always attracted me, especially Liverpool.

"I have always said Liverpool are a club that appeal to me"

The Reds reportedly sent scouts to a Bordeaux game in January 2014, and it's possible that Sane may have been one of the players on the watch-list, but to be honest, the ship has probably sailed on the big defender's chances:

* In the last three years, Liverpool have spent £45m on central defenders, including £20m on Dejan Lovren, which is the most the club has ever spent on a centre-half.

* After that huge outlay, it's unlikely that FSG will sanction more money for yet another central defender, and unless something drastic happens, I can't see Lovren or Sakho leaving any time soon.

* Martin Skrtel is still at the top of his game, and he'll probably stay at Liverpool for another 2-3 years, so unless it's an experienced older-head (i.e. a replacement for Kolo Toure), there's no room for another central defender in the squad.

* Sane is an undisputed regular for Bordeaux, and averages 35 games per season. At the age of 27, I doubt he'd enjoy spending most of his time on the bench, which - given the intense competition at Anfield - is a definite possibility.

It's good to heave dreams, though, and if Sane - who describes himself as 'a leader of men' - wants a move to the Premier League badly enough, I'm sure he can achieve that goal with hard work, and consistent performances.

It's just doubtful that he'll end up at Liverpool.

  2. Honestly don't know anything about him. However, I do think we need to extend our scouting range. As much as we fans are calling for a "marquee" signing, there are also many players in their mid 20s that have the ability to step up with a little searching. Teams like Soton and Newcastle have been decent at this recently. Taking a chance now and then shouldn't hurt, although the current defense isn't exactly the right place at the moment.

  3. I'd have both with Skertal as my preferred back 3, but with Toure brought on if either is having a shaky game...Lookin forward to the run in with confidence, I feel we will pip either UTD r ARSNEAL and claim 4th r if we continue playing as we are Qualify automatic by finishing 3rd... YNWA

  4. I feel Can will eventually play in Midfield but for d remainder of this season I'd deploy him at d back... Fantastic player who I'm sure will develop into a top player or d next few years YNWA

  5. I agree mate. Simply throwing money at big names will only bring success of you can consistently do it window after window til you get it right like Chelsea and City did. PSG jumped on the wagon a little too late and are now having all kinds of problems with FFP. They may have had some success in a weak domestic league but they're still a fair way off being comparable to Bayern and Spain's big two and with their ongoing issues balancing their books, they're not going to be able to continue to spend the way they have in the past so now their business model looks less and less sustainable.
Our business model looks very good. It may not bring the instant results unrealistic fans demand if you look at the amount of talent in our team between the ages of 19-22, we have a real core of quality players who will grow as a team and get better and better. With a few choice additions over the next couple of windows I feel there could be exciting times ahead.

  6. It's good competition which is good for the team. I think ultimately it's reasonable to have our back three actually be defenders. Can has been good in the position but he's not really a centre back. I think Sakho, Skrtel and Lovren can work together and when they are all in form and in sync then they will make a formidable unit. However if Rodgers wants to stick with Can then I think Sakho has shown he has the edge. He's got the better of Lovren in a number of areas and despite Lovren doing OK in the past few games I'm still not convinced. My guess is that Rodgers will check them out in training and pick the best combination, not just the best players. For me that combination is Sakho, Skrtel and Can. That's the line up that resurrected our faltering season and it's the one I would trust.

  7. It'll surely get re-turfed in the off-season, it's just not good enough. They must have some problems that need addressing but the reality is that you can't re-surface a football pitch in the middle of the season. Whatever they need to do they'll have to wait until the season is done.

  8. Tough call; I think if Lovren keeps it together Brendan has got to give him an extended run in the team. He mentioned that there's no sense in changing a system that's working in regards to moving Can out of defense and into midfield, I don't see why he'd change his mind here.

  10. Look at the mess LvG has got himself and MU into with Faclo and Di Maria .

  13. You've seen his passing in the 2nd half of City match and how precise it can be, it's an actual upgrade on Sakho's simple passing. It all comes down to that Dejan currently sprays his passes as opposed to Sakho but nobody mentions his defensive prowess, aerial duels, heading and tackling where he is on-par or even better than Sakho

  14. I agree and think some fans just bash Lovren for no goid reason

  15. Both are very good defenders; Lovren suffered for a lack of a protection from midfield earlier in the season and his confidence was smashed as a result. He's started to put the pieces back together in the last couple of games but it will be a solid run of games before he stops second-guessing himself entirely. Sakho was in better form before his injury. To be honest I think we've got two excellent young-ish centre-halves, and if we can get them fit and firing at the same time that's great for us.

  16. I meant overlooked by Rodgers! The beginning of this season I felt Rodgers wa so desperate for big signing Lovren to work that he was picked irrespective of form. Until things got desperate & Sakho stepped in & made it difficult to be dropped. I just don't think Lovren has done enough yet to make a real claim fir the first 11.

  17. Rather get Sadio Mane

  18. Buying more central defenders doesn't seem to work for Liverpool. We've been linked with William Carvalho again, that would be a fantastic signing. Dominating the midfield is always important, but even more so in the premier league.

  19. Mignolet lovren and Allan all playing well so surely it's not who should b dropped but what must those not playing do to get a game. This is a problem we've wanted for a long time players finally playing to their potential and everyone fighting for a game, this bodes well for the season that's left

  20. Ah Jamie! These ads are getting a little too saucy...not work friendly at all :(

  21. Can does not need a game off. He needs to keep playing and establish himself or rather emblazon himself on that pitch. We need him to bully burnley and get us to work on that goal difference.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You could move Can into midfield and play Sakho Skrtel and Lovren.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Quite frankly he was terrible the last few games, his game is crumbling he needs a rest

    ReplyDelete
  24. Which I think is why he needs to play. If anything, I have learnt this season that continuity helps players even BR himself continued with a system which was not working (to the best of our desires) earlier on in the season but now we are enjoying soccer again.

  25. he wasn't given enough time to gel with the new formation, as opposed to Sakho. And his shaky outings were not at all shaky ; his yellow card versus besiktas prevented a counter attack, and his slip vs Aguero is just Aguero's individual quality, Lovren put him in the pocket the whole match and made two successful tackles ON Aguero, so the critisicm is over the top!

  26. I like that we are collecting captains and leaders. Lallana, Henderson, Can.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Simple, just move Lovren into centre of back 3. Skrtel on the right and Sakho on the left and Can into midfield.

  28. If they miss out on top 4 again this year, they're going to have problems

    ReplyDelete
  29. Why not move to West Ham and show Liverpool every week what makes you so special? I agree we're set for CM right now. I'd have Wisdom back in the summer and with Lovren, Skrtel (which is weird because he was firm favourite to be out two years ago) and Sakho there as well we should be fine. Can too of course but I can't imagine he won't move into midfield at some stage.

  30. I cannot see Falco or Di Maria playing for MU next year , take about wasted talent and money .

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why , why, why , Wisdom, cannot get any game time at West Brom with the next England coach

    ReplyDelete
  32. He's played 22 league games for WBA of the 27 they've played.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Falcao no but I think Di Maria will come good

    ReplyDelete
  34. Can't get time? He's their main RB is he not? And he's playing really well last I checked (which was admittedly awhile ago).

  35. That was before Pulis arrived !
