Mega-Bargain: Liverpool favourites to sign €12m Brazilian goal-machine who's outscoring Messi/Ronaldo in the CL

With Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini, and Mario Balotelli reportedly on the transfer list, Liverpool will need new strikers this summer, and Shakhtar Donetsk star Luiz Adriano is one of the players allegedly on Brendan Rodgers' radar. Adriano's contract expires in December, and based on the striker's comments this week, he'll be available in the summer.

In February, reports in England claimed that:

* Liverpool have scouted 27-year Adriano 'for months'.

* The Reds were 'planning to sign him' during the January 2016 transfer window, but are now 'hurrying' to seal a summer deal.

According to ESPN today, the Reds are 'front-runners' to sign the Brazilian, and when asked this week about his future, Adriano confirmed that his contract 'has not been renewed', and that he's open to a transfer. He told reporters:

"We'll do what will be best for me and for the club. With my contract set to expire and many good performances, it'll be difficult to stay in Ukraine."

Liverpool were linked with Adriano in January, who is allegedly available for knockdown €12m fee. Some info about Adriano:

* 121 goals/37 assists in 253 apps for Shakhtar.
* Goal every 2.0 games
* Goal/Assist every 1.5 games.
* Winner of 15 trophies during his career.
* OCT 2014: Scored 5 goals in one CL game (matching Messi's record)
* Hasn't suffered a single major injury during his career.
* Averages 35 appearances per season over the last 5 years.
* Current top scorer in this year's CL with 9 goals.
* Shakhtar's leading scorer of all time.

At the age of 27, Adriano is the right age to make a move to a bigger club. He's spent most of his career in the Ukraine, and I'm sure he has the desire to test himself in a superior league.

It's hard to see the negatives with this particular deal. Adriano's stats are superb; he's never injured; has copious European experience, and given the contract situation, he'll be available on the cheap.

Worth a bid?

  1. What do we want? Goals.
    When do we want them? Every half hour, please
    Who do we want to score them? Anyone with a Liver Bird on shirt.
    Why do we want this? Because we love Liverpool!

  2. Worth paying up front for this guy in the summer rather than waiting for Jan 16 when his deal expires. Sure Shaktar would rather some cash for him, we will not be alone in bidding but perhaps Coutinho/Lucas can have a word in his ear. This is def the type we need.

  3. Try to type in the following on youtube or google if you don't know what i am talking about: Luiz Adriano no fairplay

    I am quite surprised that you, Jaimie K., doesn't mention his goal against Nordsjælland in the Champions League. Would have though such a lack of fair play would scare you away. Maybe you wasn't aware? Maybe i think it is worse than the majority? Normally it is my impression that you, Jaimie K., takes issues like this very serious. Personally i can't remember i have ever seen a goal sored under similar circumstances and still can't believe Shakhtar didn't allow Nordsjælland to score a goal. I am not sure about Adriano. I really really dislike that he did what he did there.

    Anyway. I am interested to hear any thoughts...

  4. Anyone know what's happening now with Yesil? Surely he will break into the first team if fully recovered?

  5. Personally, I don't like him that much, because of a certain goal he scored a certain time, and I think that he just isn't good enough. I still think we can bag a better striker, but the question is if we really need one. Origi is coming back 101%, and we still haven't filled out more vital positions.

  7. Apparently Sturridge out for a month with a hip injury. yay -.-

    I'd take Adriano in a heartbeat. Classic low risk, high reward situation.

  8. Keeping my trap shut on Luiz Adriano.Haven't seen him enough to make a assessment.
    I watched the International friendly between France Vs Brazil.The much linked Roberto Firmino played.He set up Brazil's equaliser and had a decent game.Another attacking upgrade option who should be considered.
    Brazil won 3-1 dominated and looked fantastic.Neymar was the key player in every attack.
