Transfer Update: Liverpool finally agree to sell £7m outcast. Offers expected from Sunderland and Celtic

Liverpool misfit Tago Ilori continues to be linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, and according to new reports claim that Reds are definitely willing to sell the Portuguese when the transfer window opens.

According to Monday's Daily Express:

* Liverpool are 'ready to hear offers' from Sunderland and Celtic.

* Sunderland scouted Ilori during Portugal U21s’ recent friendly with Denmark.

* Real Sociedad have also scouted Ilori this year.

With the greatest respect, I doubt Sunderland have much chance of sealing a deal; Fabio Borini couldn't be persuaded to swap Liverpool for the North-East, and the same will probably happen with Ilori. Real Sociedad seems like the most attractive option for the youngster:

* He'll get to play against the world's best players on a regular basis.
* Sociedad is a higher profile club than Sunderland.
* Playing in Spain will give Ilori more chance of securing a move to a top La Liga club.
* Quality of life: Sunderland vs. San Sebastien. No contest.

Liverpool fans seem to have a lot of faith in Ilori, though. A few months ago, I conducted a poll on the site asking fans whether LFC should sell Ilori if/when the opportunity arises.

* A whopping 84% of prticipants voted NO to selling Ilori.

That's an emphatic vote of confidence in the Portuguese youngster, but I don't see him staying at Anfield in the long-term.

It'll be a shame if Ilori leaves without being given a chance to prove himself, though.

Who knows how he would've performed if given a run of games. Even Sebastian Coates got a few chances in the first team, but Rodgers has totally ignore Ilori for almost two years now.

Thankfully, Ilori cost a comparatively minimal £7m, so the overall financial loss will probably be small.

Unless, of course, Liverpool somehow manage to sell Ilori for a profit. It seems unlikely, but Sunderland were reportedly willing to spend £14m on Fabio Borini, so, clearly, anything is possible.

  1. Like you say it's a shame that he will most likely be leaving without even getting a chance. I still think we should've loaned him to a prem club to see how he got on. Then made a decision from there.

  2. I disagree, Sunderland are a way bigger club and he would be playing against better opposition on a weekly basis in the premier, la ligaments, is week once you remove the top three.

I wonder if Divock Origi career will follow Tiago Ilori
It is very telling that LFc did not get him back in January

    it is Rodgers saying
" DIVOCK ORIGI CANNOT IMPROVE THE TEAM, HE IS NOT OUTSTANDING , SO LETS NOT PAY THAT 2M "

And it is understandable because he has struggled to score goals,

JAIME KANWAR WILL DIVOCK ORIGI FOLLOW THE SMAE ROUTE AS THIAGO ILORI?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I would say he is very unlikely to follow the smae route whatever that is.

  10. A couple of years back, unlikely to happen now! I disagree completely that any of those teams would beat Liverpool on a regular basis, one off game possibly

    ReplyDelete
  11. That wont happen mate

    ReplyDelete
  12. They can have Ilori i dont think he has impressed anywhere on loan so definitely out.

    ReplyDelete
  13. BR needs to give Tago Ilori a chance
, as good centre backs are hard to find and with GJ and maybe KT leaving it would be silly to sell him without, giving him a chance to prove himself .

    I saw him play.
He is weak at Heading the ball
His positional sense is Lovren esque
    His distribution is awful
He despite his height is physically very weak for standard required in pl ,

we should look in France though . Zouma,Skaho,Varane
France are producing all the good cbs

  20. We're actually within a mere three million net spend, per season, of utd since 1992. That's averaged out over that period. Us £14,183,261 and them £17,361,304 average net per season.
I think just chucking money at the team is not the answer, it's only one part of the equation. The other is successive raids of Southampton's team and Brendan ensuring we hang on to our best players long enough for them to achieve their world class status.

    ReplyDelete
  28. He is a defender with proper pace which is what we lack. Most definitely would give him a chance next season. Can't do any worse than Lovren. Ilor has also been injured for some time this season so has not had an awful amount of playing time.

  32. Considering how he has no strengths, it's a wonder he even made it this far

    ReplyDelete
  33. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:17 pm, March 31, 2015

He has pace and played in a more technical league in Portugal. The pl is all kick and rush, , completely different ball game.

Ryan Shawcross would be an awesome signing though

    ReplyDelete
  34. There are quite a few teams that don't play kick and rush in the PL. Some do, and they are the lower teams but the smae could be said for other leagues. Lot's of the 'lower' teams play kick and rush, because in some instances it's the only way to get a result.
    And please, no Shawcross.

  47. They had that group who came through their academy that made them so so strong. They only needed to buy occasionally and they paid big when they did it. We were putting masking tape leaks rather than paying the proper money for a real plumber. The net spend doesn't really show it properly but when you look at how much the team on the field were worth compared to ours there was no competition.

  67. So Illori isn't good on the ball but Shawcross would be awesome? Your fckin with us aren't you? Your not real?!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ah yes Ryan Shawcross... Often compared to a young Franco Baresi

    ReplyDelete
  69. Illori is the one of the biggest conundrums in recent times. We spent 7 mil on this guy, supposedly beating out Chelsea in the process and then we never play him, not even in a Cup game. What sense is that supposed to make? I see no reason as to why Illori cannot still be a squad member. He is young, and we only have two proper defenders, one centre mid at CB and another one woefully out of form. If Skrtel gets sent off or suspended, why can Illori not come in. Of course, that is never going to happen as Rodgers will go down the Suso route.

    ReplyDelete
  70. To sell this kid withoiut even giving him a shot at the first team is insulting to all the fans and any player in this position..... He would have ben better left alone to progress his game at a good club, Sporting are superb at nuturing young talent... Just ask Ronaldo and Nani.... If this really is the case, Brendan should be feeling alittle shame right now.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I don't get Brendan sometimes.... Substitutions and transfers are really making him look amateurish...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Your not a fan are you? If you were, you'd know that LFC can beat anyone you put infront of them......Fact.

  73. Your a media sheep, you always just name whatever name the media are hot on at the moment.....How bout a player the media aren't all over.... Johannes Geis maybe, or Simeone Scuffet... Maybe Mattia Perin or Sam Byram, Damerai Gray or James Ward Prowse...

    ReplyDelete
  74. Sometimes, it is just mind boggling what goes on in the club. Players like Allen, GJ and co are given innumerable chances whereas players like Suso, Shelvey and Alberto get shipped out and then we complain about lack of options.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Get yourself a VPN and you ca be 100 diferent people in 100 diferent countries and no one will ever know, that is until you type something....

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'd take Nabil Fekir over Depay, any day.... did that just rhyme?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yep he was talking up Ward Prowse was last week.

    ReplyDelete
  80. And the treatment of Balo is also very weird. He scored against Spurs and Besiktas and finally looks to be building momentum and Rodgers does not start him after that.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Read the quotes from Rodgers at the time. It is one of the reasons I truly believe there to be a disconnect between some of the committee and Rodgers. He talked about him being a good player one day and how he needed a first teamer. At the time of his loans we had four CBs ahead of him. I think now with Agger gone and potentially Toure too he may get a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Remember he used to spell Schneiderlin wrong about 150 times a day?

    ReplyDelete
  83. I was Rodgers biggest fan in his first two seasons but this season has changed all of that. Cannot see him making it past this season, I will be very surprised if he does.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Balo quite simply should never have been signed. It is not the players fault that he is here. Everyone knew what we were getting ourselves into. When he did sign I told myself that he needs to be given a chance but clearly there are massive issues between Balo & Rodgers as he is being used very sparingly.

    ReplyDelete
  98. His backtracking is what winds you up though. The daft stuff just convinces you that everything he says is daft.

    ReplyDelete
  99. As LFC fans we all want the same thing and that is to see this club do well but that does not mean we will share the same opinion on the players, managers etc. That is just the way it is...

    ReplyDelete
  100. The kid's got two brain cells working in shifts...

    ReplyDelete
  101. I know mate but as a Liverpool fan I think it is our obligation and a privilege to keep the faith till there is mathematical possibility, for everything. And you keep posting stuff like we are Tottenham, or like you are an unbiased football watcher..

    ReplyDelete
  102. Your not against FSG though. You think much will change without Rodgers? The tact will still be the same club level. The new manager will be similar, young up and coming but will have to start over.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I want to see another person typing down there soon, Bob...

    ReplyDelete
  104. If Rodgers is to leave, it HAS to be for an experienced head who can keep the club relevant on a transfer level and can make us a powerhouse.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Understood, future NGCtC ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  106. That's why he won't be going.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I think so too. FSG will not want to pull the plug as that would mean they would have to search again.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Of course but there will be somebody working above the head coach.

    ReplyDelete
  109. DOF and a young coach.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Exactly, I've been pointing this out to numerous people for a while now. The club's strategy will remain the same, the same problems will exist except as you say, we'll be starting from scratch. Madness

    ReplyDelete
  111. Ah, the old "which is the best league?" debate. Always enlightening.

Just waiting for someone to come in and say the German league, like a fecking dandy.

Also, La Liga is the best league. Settled.

    ReplyDelete
  112. For Brendan Rodgers to even imply someone is not outstanding is a damning indictment of the highest order.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Fair point there Jay. I was just trying to add a bit of balance to Codes musings. Mind you and much as it pains me to say it, I think utd have spent their money more wisely over that period than us.
If you go back to the days of Istanbul and our Spanish contingent, I don't think the leaks were too big at that time and the money we've spent since should have been enough to keep us competitive.
A combination of not hanging on to our best players such as Alonso, and/or replacing them with players of a lesser standard than required has not helped our cause.

    ReplyDelete
  114. If he was going for a few million only, I think Kieran Trippier would make a good addition to our squad. He isn't world class or outstanding just yet but a decent young player in my opinion.
I've been watching Burnley a bit this season as my preferred choice to stay up and I will put my neck on the line and say he has at least the skill level/potential of Moreno and may be a good option to have on the right.

Maybe under Rafa what you are saying is correct but now essentially FSG are also the manager of lfc because he is a yes man

  123. I prefer the Jamaican league, the one off the coast of Africa.

    ReplyDelete
  124. There's quite a few cracking young players about at the moment...And who knows, if they were as lucky as Sterling, or had a flashy forgein name, they may even get their chance...I am a big fan of the idea that these unfashionable names get the proper respect they deserve, and that a manager at a top team take a chance on them..... In my fantasy it's already happening....
Fekir will be a crcking player in a season or two, but I don't know if he would be cheap... I do like the idea of Danny Ings though... and maybe give Ward Prowse a look aswell... I would only look at Fekir though if we do lose Sterling... even though Fekir is a more complete player....

    ReplyDelete
  125. I have questions, but he is answering thwm all one by one... Time is not the friend of any football manager these days though... I for one think he deserves a fair crack at bringing in the actual quality replacements he wants, as in top shelf players to complete his starting XI... If after that he can't do what we want, and win something or get CL (which is getting a 50% increase in prize money in another season, EL aswell)then maybe it is time to look elsewhere... But not any replacement just for the sake of replacing him.... it has to be a vast improvement, otherwise, we'd be better sticking rather than twisting.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I know what you mean, Borini has been getting a shitty deal aswell... Lucas to a point got it also... I think he just takes a disliking to some, and can't be swayed... Don't why, or whether it's vanity or what, but it's a pretty shitty way to treat someone who's confidence must be at an all time low already...... So much for man management, and developing the person aswell as the footballer...

    ReplyDelete
  127. Yes that year was a long 8 months but not as long as the last couple of days

    ReplyDelete
  128. I cannot see him learning from his mistakes. He has been here three seasons now and still does not know what style of football he is going to settle on as it has changed season after season. What we do know it that his tiki taka system which he deployed the first half of his debut season and the first half of this season needs to thrown in the bin. What is the likely hood of him going back to that shite system again next season?

Let's call it 50/50 and then we sit in the same situation as his first and third season. At least with someone like Rafa he stuck to one thing and made it work for him instead of jumping around but do not get me wrong, I do not ever want Rafa back but if you have a manager which is unsure about the playing style he believes in and has to change to something different to get himself out of trouble then where does it end?

    ReplyDelete
  129. And there I was backing Dalglish to the hilt not for one single day asking him to be axed while others were calling for his head just about every single day.

Like I said earlier, we all want the same thing but not everyone will agree about managers etc.

For me Rodgers ain't going to take us further. Shoot me for feeling that way. It ain't going to change.

    ReplyDelete
  130. ***Evil laugh***

    ReplyDelete
  131. A comment to which I will drink. Cheers.

    ReplyDelete
  132. That would not be for me to decide but it is the route FSG have always wanted to go so do not rule it out.

    ReplyDelete
  133. It is very naive to suggest that FSG do not have options available to them for a DOF.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Why would FSG not wwant to pull the plug looking back at Hodgson, Comolli and Dalglish?

    What makes Rodgers so special?

    ReplyDelete
  135. I agree. We had a great core when we came second under Rafa but he had already wanted Barry in for Alonso and that hurt us. Losing out on Barry and not having Alonso, letting Arbaloa go and spending stupid money on Johnson when that money could have been better spent elsewhere. It was'nt the start of problem obviously hut it began the domino effect. The club being in hands of cowboys meant that we have been trying to get back to that standard but from a much weaker position that when we previously had been.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I didn't mention dof. I said manager.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I have slight issues with our supposed style... Actually I'm still trying to figure out what our style is, because to call it tiki taka is a bit of a stretch....It's all abit confused at times.. Players over think and over play the situation far to often....I'm a fan of a direct game offast flowing pass and move football... But, I don't understand why we're not making the most of out abundance of pace.. We have Sturridge, Sterling, Marko, Ibe and Moreno who are all sprint demons.....But we never utilise the wings, there is an irritating need to try and move the game into the centre and try and pass the ball into the back of the net.... Teams know what we are about, and set themselves up accordingly....We're too predictable... I notice that we don't seem to have as much space to play as other teams in other games because we're always too narrow.... We are definately missing the point of having blistering pace in the squad.... We were stunning last season when we played on the counter, this always left teams reeling in shock... Get some of this back again, and we'll be awesome again.

    ReplyDelete
  138. No it shows that idiots are everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  139. By saying Africans are no good at football, or jamiacans (those being the same to you) and French being good is reverse racism.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Bit of a catch 22, buy players with good potential and a large percentage of fans moan that they aren't good enough or accuse FSG of money-ball; wait until they are proven talent with a price tag to suit and we're overpaying and getting ripped off.
I'd always err on the side of taking an early punt on potential myself, as long as the price is sensible.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Who would come in with a dof telling them who to play and formations etc? I doubt anyone. They may have someone doing the transfers etc but not all the stuff you said the other day.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Hodge was in before they arrived. Kenny was supposed to be short term but did alright so got more time. Cammoli sanctioned thirty five million for Carrol. Rodgers got to a hairs breadth of the title. The closes Gerrard has ever been in his own words. Until this season he had not lost more than two games in a row. Heehaw broken records as manager from near day one.

  143. I've warned you they could sue

  144. So he won't learn from mistakes but has changes styles every season.

  145. Absolutely and now the cowboys and Woy have gone I think we are slowly returning to that point. That's why I bit when Nevergonna suggested that FSG were not putting enough investment into the club, comparing us to the Irons no less. How very dare he.

  146. What do you mean it is always the way they wanted to go?

  147. We don't have to do one or the other... I think we always have a place for potential, but we could and should be looking to bring in that ready made quality to play and contribute in the now, or we'll always be waiting for those youngsters to mature...We have one eye on the future, but never forgetting the now...

  148. Getting the right balance is the tricky bit I guess, I'm happy for FSG to give Rodgers a more control in the summer. I know there are plenty who will disagree but to me there's little point in having a manager if your not going to let him fully mould the team the way he wants.

I think it's obvious there were too many people involved in last summers transfers and pulling in different directions. Hopefully this summer we will also get one or two of the now players you allude to.

  149. I wouldn't take him to seriously. I have fallen in to that trap too. He said something about wanting us to spend a hundred million net. He is either really young or a baffoon.

  150. Fingers crossed we have a good summer... I have agood feeling about it, which will be somewhat at odds with alot of people, but I think FSG will back Rodgers in th summer to finally get the needed quality.... More money coming into the club and important out goings in Gerrard means they have to have been living in a cave ot to grasp the significance of where LFC are, and what they need to take them to the next level....I have faith that FSG will still have Brendan as Manager aswell... But one things for sure.. they will have to back him in the market if they are really serious about making this club a big club again.... If theyweren't, I think he would have been gone already... and they would have to back any new man with funds.... Some don't want to admit it, but LFC are looking very stable financially these days, and the stadium money is clear of the teams coffers, so with that investment, large as it is, it makes sense that they would back themselves agai in football team terms.... For the first time in a long while, I'm optomistic about LFC's future prospects, and excited to see what nice new toys we'll have to play with next season...

  151. This is true and naturally I take it all with a barrow load of salt. Wish I was still young myself, think I've got the buffoonery covered still though. ;-)

  152. Amen to all of that, fantastic post and I echo all of those sentiments 100%. Top bombing sir.

  153. Nonsense. I can get ham anywhere.

  154. Kenny and Rodgers were cheap choices that did not require much resources and were easy to make. i highly doubt fans would want another Rodgers type manager if he is to leave and FSG would have to look for an experienced guy that requires a lot of money. Rodgers is their safe bet and I do not think they want to spend the resources to get the new manager.

  155. Goes back to his inept tiki taka system yes. The one that does not work.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Well we unfortunately are not going to have blistering pace with Balotelli and Lambert in the squad.

Our biggest failures this season was wasting money on players that were never needed and not signing a player capable of filling the Suarez void. If that was done then there wouldn't be as many issues this season.

  157. DOF is what they wanted when they appointed Rodgers. He made it clear that working under someone was not an option for him.

    ReplyDelete
  158. If you think they are not willing to spend money on a new manager and let LFC become a mid table team then you are mistaken.

FSG will eventually sell and the only way they will make it appealing to buyers is for this club to achieve some form of success i.e. trophies.

They have spent shite loads of LFC money on transfers since they arrived and have a Carling Cup to show for it. Bottomless pit and then they have to deal with excuses like transition.

  159. Defo fella. Might not agree with everything you feel/say but can tell you're a decent sort who just wants the best for our mighty club.
