You're Out: Liverpool transfer-list £31m trio. BR to sign exciting £35m goalscorers as replacements?

When it comes to signing strikers, Brendan Rodgers has an exceedingly poor record in the transfer market, and the Liverpool's lack of consistently effective frontmen has cost the club dearly this season. Injuries aside, Daniel Sturridge is the Reds' only worthy striker, and new reports suggest that Rodgers will cut his losses this summer on three of the club's most under-performing stars.

According to the multiple reports today, Liverpool have transfer-listed 3 plaers, with the Daily Mail claiming:

"Liverpool have Divock Origi arriving in the summer from Lille and will listen to offers for Balotelli [cost £16m], Fabio Borini [Cost £11m] and Rickie Lambert [cost: £4m]".

The goal return of those three strikers this season is pitiful:

* Balotelli: 4 goals in 25 apps.
* Borini: 1 goals in 16 apps.
* Lambert: 3 goals in 28 apps.

* Combined Totals: 8 goals/assists in 69 apps.
* Goal every 8.6 games
* Cost-per-goal: £3.8m

Irrespective of the reasons why, this contribution is simply not good enough, and Rodgers must take responsibility for repeatedly failing to sign strikers capable of fitting in and/or scoring goals consistently.

Sturridge is the obvious exception, and Rodgers deserves great credit for bringing him to Anfield; however, the striker is unbelievably injury prone, which makes having effective alternate options even more of a priority.

I doubt many fans will lose any sleep over the loss of Balotelli, Lambert, and Borini, and the sooner they're replaced with strikers who can consistently contribute, the better.

Will Liverpool make their money back, though? Over the summer, Sunderland were inexplicably willing to pay £14m for Borini, so anything's possible.

As for replacements: Liverpool are heavily linked with 'amazing' £12m Argentine striker Luciano Vietto, and (allegedly) 'world-class' £25m Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette, both of whom appear to be massive upgrades Borini, Lambert, and Balotelli.

    I reckon Vietto would be a great signing, Lacazette would be abit of a gamble I rate. I reckon certain Nationalities don't suite our style of play. Eg generally Italians don't do well in the PL.When last did a French player become a legend at LFC? For 25m I would rather add an extra 10m and get a more finished player like Benzema( if we going to give a French player a go).

    I thought about the Konoplyanka discussion and looking back he has a good record against PL teams and does damage when Ukrain play England.

  5. Anelka was brilliant alongside Owen. Worked for the team, belittled everything that had been rumoured about him. For whatever reason Ged decided not to complete the transfer...and signed Spit instead :(

    The only time ever I can remember Stevie commenting on and criticising the club/manager transfer policy was letting Anelka go.

    But, yeah, Vignal, le Tallec, Sinima-P, not exactly confidence inspiring.

    Used to think Benzema was hugely overrated, but last couple of seasons he's really impressed me. Would be brilliant signing. Another player who has great decision making, selfless in work, would be a great lone striker or a brilliant partner (especially for someone like Sturridge).

    I wanted to find out from you what do you think of Konoplyanka? Would he be good fit for Liverpool or you don't rate? Bearing in mind Anelka played for Arsenal and Real Madrid before coming to Liverpool where Lacazette has not played for a team on the same level as Liverpool, might be tough to a just

  7. While I agree with your observation, it's all about general style of play, and there are ALWAYS exceptions. The Spanish are known for their possession obsession and technical skills, but many buck the trend. Likewise, while the French are more known for their slower pace of play, Lacazette seems to genuinely be a natural goal scorer.

    And how many good frenchmen have we had? Asking when the last star Frenchman is like asking when the last star Brazilian was before Lucas...

  8. Honestly, I'm not qualified to comment on him. I've watched the same youtube as everyone else, and seen him in the same internationals as everyone else. But I don't watch Ukranian footy.

    You learn a lot more about a player when it isn't just 10 minute highlights of all their best bits. I'd be able to make Aquiliani look a resounding success highlighting just his nice touches, there were quite a few. But it's all the other hours when a player goes missing, doesn't contribute, doesn't make a difference that counts.

    The nice bits look very nice, looks quick and creative...but can he win a match on his own, make a difference when his teammates need a lift...? I don't know.

    What is quiet ironic is previous Liverpool managers have all been good and siting good strikers eg KD = Saurez Benitez = Torres and have struggled with widemen. Rodgers is struggling with striker purchases but has enough options on the wings.

    HEUNG-MIN SON For Bayer Leverkusen I rate could be a good addition to lfc , he is very underrated, this season alone for country he scored 3 goals and club 16 goals and 2 assists. We can have him playing behind the striker , Coutinho on the left and Ibe on the right. We may be looking in the region of 20m but at 22 I rate it will be a lot better than Bolatelli deal

  11. . Injuries aside, Daniel Sturridge is the Reds' only worthy striker.
    Jaimie you CANNOT ignore the injuries
    Did BR not sign Aspas aswell ?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Which is more reliable ?
    1) Jaimie K 's predictions or
    2) BR buying strikers.

    ReplyDelete
  13. South American strikers are cheaper and work rateis much higher .

  14. My predictions don't leads to tens of millions being flushed down the toilet.

  15. Another blunder was not signing Loic Remy. Which no hindsight was needed just look at his goal tally this season, heart defect or no heart defect. BR has to take the blame it's obvious when we've had to play Sterling that it's not his natural position. At times we've appeared toothless!

  16. Good point. And who'd turn down a chance to sign, say, Paul Pogba?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Heung-Min Song would be an excellent addition, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Given the reported gold content of human waste you might wish to reconsider that statement

    ReplyDelete
  19. Jamie surely you should use goals per minutes played which would give a much more realistic representation, hard to count 5 mins at the end of a game as an appearance, using appearance sorta implies a full match. Lets at least have some perspective here

    Lacazette and Origi are sufficient enough to replace Lambert, Balotelli and Borini. Liverpool don't need to replace all three, especially considering Sturridge's return to fitness, Sterling's abilities up front and in the middle and the sudden rise of Ibe. Having Origi, Sturridge, Sterling, Ibe and perhaps Lacazette would be more than ideal for next season.
