Transfer Boost: Agent confirms exciting €16m striker 'could sign for Liverpool' soon

Over the weekend, Argentine striker Luciana Vietto confirmed that he'll consider a transfer to Liverpool this summer if the Reds make him a 'very good' offer, and now, his Agent has fanned the flames of speculation by claiming that a move to Anfield is a definite possibility.

When specifically asked about Liverpool's interest, €16m-rated Vietto told Spanish newspaper AS:

"If these great teams come forward and make an offer we’ll see.

"The offer would first have to be very good, but it would be very good for me and good for Villarreal."

Speaking to reporters today, Vietto's agent, Jorge Cysterpiller confirmed that Liverpool are actively trying to sign Vietto:

"Big clubs are watching Vietto. He could sign for Liverpool, we know that he is admired by the Reds, as well as Real Madrid and two Bundesliga clubs. He could leave Villarreal in the summer"

Vietto has 18 goals/8 assists in 36 games for Villareal this season (including 13 goals/assists in 10 games in the Europa League), which is an impressive record for a 21-year old.

Vietto is often labelled the 'new Sergio Aguero', and the youngster admits that he wants to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot. In a recent interview, he enthused:

"It is great to be compared with players like that. I would love to be half as good as 'Kun' Agüero. He is a great player and he shows it every day. As I said I would love to be a player like him"

I've argued many times that £10m-£12m should be the cutoff point for signing promising young players, and £12m is a reasonable price for a striker with such an impressive striker-rate.

Indeed, Liverpool would almost certainly have to pay double that for a British player with similar figures (Harry Kane, for example), so Vietto appears to be a comparative bargain.

A front-line of next season of Sturridge, Ings, Vietto, and Origi looks pretty tasty, and there's a natural age/experience based pecking order there:

* Sturridge
* Ings
* Vietto
* Origi

There's a lack of European/big-league experience there, though, and if Sturridge gets injured again, will Liverpool be able to rely on Ings, Vietto, and Origi to get the job done?

  1. Studge, Adriano, Vietto, Origi that would spell trouble.

  2. And by Adriano, I assume Luiz Adriano of Shakhtar?

  3. Yes. Reckon he might be tempted with a cheeky bid especially as his compatriot coutinho playing so well. Depends if he has the hunger for a major league or happy raking it in over there. I think he might be ready for a change.

  4. Agree, Vietto or Ings. Reckon Sinclair will get a few first squad opportunities next season as well.

  5. For 10-12M I think its a no brainer. He has the potential to be a great player and has many similar attributes to certain big toothed player ;) With just a bit of physical development (which is one thing BR's fitness team has actually been quite good at... see Sterling, Markovic, Allen) he could be an awesome pickup for us.

    HOWEVER, I don't think he should be the only player we bring in. At the moment, we don't know if he'll be a reliable option in the near future. If Sturridge goes down once more next season, can we use him as a #2? The same could be said of Origi. I would probably be most confident in Ings, but he still only has 1 season in the top flight. He could become a star, or completely fall out of confidence due to pressure at a bigger club.

    For me, we should only choose one of Vietto or Ings (Origi is already bought) and look to bring in a more experienced and proven option, even if it means sacrificing potential ceiling. Without overpaying of course.

  6. I get the feeling this is the most we can hope for in terms of inbound strikers. The European experience is important but Liverpool will just have to earn that the hard way.

  7. Luciano Vietto? Yes please! I put him on my wanted list a few days ago.A talented young striker with potential to turn into a top class player.
    Liverpool could get him for reasonable fee.Look at the ludicrous price tag Palermo have put on their Argentine whizkid.I vote make it happen!
    Liverpool and South American strikers are a match made in heaven... and a little bit of h3ll:)

  8. At that price, why not?

    Have to agree that Sturridge, Ings, Vietto and Origi does sound very tasty. If we managed to bring in Vietto and Ings for less than £20m, that'd be fantastic business, I reckon.

  9. * Sturridge

    * Ings

    * Vietto

    * Origi
    Yes please , Far better than this year .

    Big names does not mean success

  10. The (lack of) European experience factor doesn't bother me too much. As for now, I'm far more concerned with just qualifying for the damn thing. As long as we keep doing that, our experience will undoubtedly improve.

  11. I feel really sad that everyone has left Balotelli out of the conversation for next season

    ReplyDelete
  12. Me too, but then again, he really has no specific role in the team.

  13. Agreed, we just have to do an Arsenal and qualify for the foreseeable future.

  14. As Impressive as his stats are showing to be , I read he was among the worst converter of chances in Europe. Not a Sergio Aguero is he?

  15. living in the Ukraine right now, I think he is overdone ready for change...

  16. I agree, lots of potential, but only Studge would be a proven striker which would be a worry

  17. Could be a class player don't get me wrong but its not a signing we NEED, he is at a similar level of development to Origi when we signed him last year and he comes back to Anfeild this summer after a below par season thus far. The two at the club together will get little to no game time.

    When fit and in form Sturridge is the number 1, but the injuries are a huge concern, i say keep Balotelli as he is starting to settle because if and when Sturridge gets injured there will be too much pressure on the head of the new striker. Lacazette for anything under 30 million is a steel and i still think we can get him. With Origi as the 20yr old we have 4 ST that all serve a purpose.

  18. Vietto is banging goals in at a far greater rate than Origi and in a much tougher league

  19. Vietto sounds like a good name for an ice cream only seen this boy a few times but yes get him.
    This guy will play plenty and the skies the limit.

  20. I like the idea of having Vietto/Origi as we've all seen what borini, aspas has to offer (i.e. nothing) and hope always springs eternal. I am concerned though, about the bedding in, changing of styles and to have to fit in Balo we have sacrificed much in the first part of the season. If this 3-4-2-1 is our winning formula and the pressing high octane game is our approach we need to find players, types of players, that fit both formula and approach. I don't want any first half of season to be compromised because we want to develop x number of players to turn in a profit. E.g. Ings for us will turn a profit, but we'd have to play him/change styles/sacrifice fluidity....

    So, offtopic, but i vote YES to Vietto and can we return Origi to Lille??

  21. i have seen Origi play this season and he is not inspiring,that's the risk of investing in unestablished players with one club of play.What do i mean?Origii lining up for us next season will be aha; down-spiral for the club??.BR must do something to save the career of this kid

  22. With this guy (Vietto) they're a very good chances he can become the next LS in couple of years so for $12 mil is a red tag bargain.

  23. Vietto has looked great for Valencia during their Europa campaign this year. I think I read he's has a hand in 9 of the 20 goals they've scored in that competition which is great. Reminds me a lot of Sturridge in that he is great on the counter attack, quick with the ball at his feet and can get a shot off at a lot of different angles. Has the same general weakness that Sturridge seems to have at times but i think he'd be a great addition for the way we want to play, especially in away games where we made conceed more possession to attack on the counter.

  24. Now I'm definitely still of the opinion that we need to sign established players rather than potential all the time but this news excites me. When you see Vietto play, it takes you two seconds to realize that this kid fits our system to a tee(th). Considering Sinclair, Origi and Sturridge already at the club I think he'd fit in very well.

  25. Completely agree.

    Lacazette AND Vietto/Ings would complete our strike force nicely.

    If it came down to choice, I would take Vietto over Ings but don't see it happening considering Ings is English and cheaper, and we like a bargain...

    But in reality we know how LFC operate.. buy young and hope for the best so we probably won't get Lacazette or any established striker unless they are on a bargain price and end up with Ings and Vietto. Heard some rumors about Luiz Adriano being available for a cut price next season..
