Exciting News? BR confident of signing €40m attacker who'd 'play for Liverpool'

Over the last five years, Liverpool have repeatedly tried to sign Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan - a self-confessed admirer of LFC - and the Reds are reportedly set to launch yet another bid this summer to sign the Turkey international.

According to Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato:

"Liverpool have identified Arda Turan [as] an ideal reinforcement for the upcoming season".

Further reports claim that Liverpool are prepared to do 'everything' to seal the deal, and that Rodgers is 'confident' of bringing Turan to Anfield.

Turan's transfer history with LFC:

* Apr 2009: Rafa Benitez made a €10m move for Turan, a self-confessed Liverpool fan, but the tricky winger ended up moving to Atletico Madrid.

* Dec 2009: Turan made it clear that he favours a move to Liverpool: told reporters: "I most want to play at Liverpool because of the culture of the club and the fans"

* Mar 2010: Turan reiterated his Anfield preference: "As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition. In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter, so if I go to play in Europe, I would like to play for Liverpool".

* Oct 2012: Nuri Sahin posted a picture on his Twitter account of Turan in a Liverpool shirt.

* Oct 2012: Liverpool sent an 'observer' to watch Turan in Turkey's World Cup qualifier with Romania.

* Dec 2012: Turan's Agent, Ahmed Bulut, told Turkish television channel TRT: "Arda wants to play for another club, to live a different experience. We are working now to make it happen. Atletico know what our intention is. If all goes well, Arda will leave the Madrid club at the end of this season."

* Mar 2013: Reports in Spain claimed that the Reds were lining up a €20m summer bid for the Turkish star.

* Aug 2013: ESPN claimed both Liverpool and Arsenal were'interested' in signing Turan during the summer transfer window.

* Aug 2013: Turan's agent confirmed that English clubs were on the prowl. He told NTV Sport: "A transfer of Arda to the Premier League this summer is likely. England is where most of the interest in him lies and there have been discussions."

* Jan 2014: The Liverpool Echo reported: "Brendan Rodgers [is] pondering a move for Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan. Liverpool [could] make a play for the former Galatasaray star before the end of the January"

* Apr 2014: When asked if he is Liverpool fan, Turan told Four-Four-Two magazine: "I've always played for teams in red [Galatasaray, Manisaspor, Turkey] and I've always admired Steven Gerrard. So yes, I have a soft spot for Liverpool, especially given their history and the atmosphere at Anfield".

* Jul 2014:Turkish newspaper Sabah Spor claimed that Liverpool 'accelerated efforts' to sign Turan after the collapse of the Alexis Sanchez deal.

If Turan really loves Liverpool as much as he claims, then in theory, securing a deal should be relatively straightforward. At the age of 27, the Turk - who has a €40m buyout clause - is in his prime, and after winning La Liga with Madrid, he may feel that he's achieved everything he can at the club.

Is signing Turan such a good idea, though? The Turk's injury history is a huge cause for concern:

* 11 separate injuries in the last 5 years.
* 319 says out injured in that time (44 games missed)
* This season: three minor injuries.

Turan is not a prolific goalscorer/creator, either. Atletico Stats:

* 22 goals/32 assists in 162 apps.
* Goal every 7.3 games.
* Goal/assist every 3 games.
* Top goalscoring season: 9 (all comps) in 2013-14.
* Most league goals scored in one season: 5 in 2013-14.

Liverpool already have attacking players who struggle to score 8-10 goals a season - what's the point in bringing in someone who is clearly not an upgrade on the players already at the club?

  2. B Rodgers still needs to do some whole sale changes to squad:

A Turan(28) is top quality player but he is not the player we want or need now or anymore and he would cost the club £25-£35M minimum,B Rodgers or a new manager in the summer should not go for A Turan(28)

B Rodgers or a new manager in the summer needs to ship out these players out this summer: 11 players:

    GK: B Jones(32) CB: K Toure(33) CB: S Coates(24)

    RB: G Johnson(30) LB: J Enrique(28) DM: L Leiva(28)

    CM: J Allen(24) AM: L Alberto(22) FD: I Aspas(27)

    F Borini(23 ) FD: R Lambert(32)

And the Owners need to give B Rodgers or the new manager £60-£70M transfer war chest and whatever money can be brought in on the sales of the players above should be given to the manager and he should be allowed to bring in these 9 class quality players to club:

    Five Class Quality Defensive Players:

1: GK: Marc Andre Ter Stegen(22) Of Barcelona for £9-£12M to compete and cover S Mignolet(26)

    2: CB: T Alderwierld(25) Of A Madrid for £6-£10M to compete and cover M Skrtel(30)

    3: LB: A Robertson(20) Of Hull for £5-£8M to compete and cover A Moreno(22)

    4: DM: L Bender(25) Of B Dortmund for £15-£20M
    5: DM: G Imbulla(22) Of Marseille for £8-£12M

To compete with one another, two young mobile quick Defensive Enforcers

    Attacking players: Four Top Class:

    6: CM: T Alacantara(23) Of Bayern Munich for £24-£32M to compete with J Henderson(24) and E Can(20)

    7: RW/ LW: Y Bolaise(25) Of Crystal Palace for £6-£8M to compete with R Sterling(20 and J Ibe(19)

    8: FD: L Adriano(27) Of S Donesk for £6-£8M to compete with D Sturridge(25)

    9: FD: C Benteke(24) Of A Villa for £15-£18M to compete with M Balotelli(24)

  3. NOT sure all this movement will take place.

    OUT

    In

Matt Ryan , Danny Ings a DM and CF.

  4. I think 9 new signings is a bit much

OUT (9 players but 3 players are out on loan anyway):
Jones, Johnson (free), Toure (free), Coates, Gerrard (free), Alberto, Aspas, Borini, Lambert.

IN (7 players but only 3 new signings):
GK: Ter Stegen or Perin or Butland
CB: Wisdom and Illori (back from loan)
DM: Khedira or Illaramendi or Imbulla or Panic
    AM: Teixeira (back from loan)
CF: Lacazette, Origi (back from loan)

I would possibly add Danilo as well and maybe Milner on a free but we don't want too many new faces

  5. I'm sorry, but I don't agree with any of these (except your outs...those are spot on)

Barca will never let Ter Stegen leave, at least not permanently, because of the transfer ban. They would need to replace him, which isn't possible.

Alderweireld is playing well, but I doubt he'd want to come to LFC. Yes he was pushing in the past, but after such a solid season with Soton, he'll either stay at Atletico or move to Soton on permanent. They probably have 1st pick anyway.

Robertson is pretty much the same age as Brad Smith, and Smith is much better suited to the WB role. Robertson would be pointless imo.

Would rather go after a RM midfielder. One or two of Illara, Khedira, and Casemiro are leaving due to the Lucas Silva transfer, and any of the 3 would be top business.

Would rather Kramer than Imbulla. Personal preference.

Alcantara will NO WAY leave Bayern, unless we pay stupid money > 50M.

    Bolaise isn't good enough. Simple.

Adriano actually is a good target. I'll give you that one. Lacazette would be a dream, by Adriano could do the job.

Benteke would be unneeded. We'll have Sturridge, Origi, Balotelli, and hypothetically Adriano. If we were to go for anyone, I'd pick Ings. Young, cheap, low risk, and high reward.

  6. Don't rate Turan, never have, can't see what the fuss is about this player. £40m? His Liverpool "fan" status also seems very dubious. How much was Benzema rumoured to be available for? £49m was it? If we are going to spend that much on one player surely we should be getting some guarantees for our cash.

  7. Everyone's giving their ideal window, so I suppose I'll join the party :P

OUT: Borini, Aspas, Lambert (possibly loan), Gerrard, Allen, Alberto, Jones, Coates, Johnson, Enrique

    IN:
Romero/Perin/etc- a capable competitor for Mignolet
Wisdom- Take Can's place at CB so he can play in the Mid.
Casemiro/Illarramendi/Camacho/Carvalho- Good DM to compete with Lucas. The Real DMs would be good targets with their acquisition of Lucas Silva.
Nainggolan/Kramer- Solid work horses that provide an additional perk, tackling and defensive solidity from Nainggolan, deep creativity from Kramer.
Promote Texeria and Smith for backup when needed.
    Origi- take Borini's place
Lacazette- Absolute dream. Luiz Adriano would be good too.

  8. If we can take a punt on mario, then why not. I reckon Turan would bleed for us and its that passion an comitment we are missing. Just cos stats are not fantastic where he is doesn't mean he won't improve us, he is a classy player an can make things happen on the pitch.

  9. I doubt Allen is going anywhere. With hindsight, yes we overpaid for him, but he's here now and I can't imagine he's on massive wages. So, that and the fact that he's putting in some good stints, now, makes me think he's a good squaddie.

  10. I am fan of Arda Turan and i think he would improve the quality of our first team. He is good in possession and can find the pass and score too. For me he can easily replace and offer more quality than Lallana or Allen.
Don't understand why fans seem to think Lallana has been good signing because i don't see what the fuss is all about as he had 1-2 decent games but struggled against decent oppositions.

  11. 1. Miralem Pjanic a creative type from deep that will instigate clever passing and triangle moves.A tempo dictating, midfield orchestrator.
    2. Striker... Luciano Vietto would be a good option. We could use Aspas or Luis Alberto to help make a deal happen.Liverpool shouldn't splash the cash on any Tom, d4ck or Harry. If we can't get the right player, give Jerome Sinclair impact sub minutes next season.I think Lacazette signing for Liverpool is very unlikely.
    3. Mattia Perin a quality young GK with potential to take his game to De Gea and Courtois levels.
    4. Defensive Midfielder... William Carvalho is a quality centre back protector with good awareness, positioning and ball playing ability. He eats players for breakfast. He could be our Matic.
    5. Yevhen Konoplyanka is available on a free transfer. He puts up better production stats than most of our creatives.Rodgers wanted him last season and Liverpool were prepared to pay a huge fee.

  12. You can blow up squad if you bring in the right players and those players are better than what we have.

The nine players i have mentioned are all good enough hands down:

M Andre Ter Stegen(22) is better than S Mignolet(26) and is not a regular starter in the Barcelona team

Alderwierld(25) is a top quality centre back/defender and if we can somehow make champions league positions and get back in champions league he would join us ahead of Southampton for sure

Robertson(20) is a very good left back who is only going to get better and better over the next few years and could offer some class quality competition for A Moreno(22)

Bolaise(25) is a top class winger, he may not score enough goals but he anielates full backs game in game out and would only get better playing with better players.

T Alacantara(23) should be the clubs Marquee signing this summer, We should offer £25-£35M for him. He would be great signing and take club to the next level

G Umbulla(22) is a young mobile pacey tough tackling enforcer who is doing well for Marseille and would be great addition to side

If we sell R Lambert(32) then i think C Benteke(24) should be his replacement, like for like players just one is younger has more mobility, pace, and is a lot better and stronger than the other.

  13. Totally agree with you on Lallana! Very pleasing on the eye but very little end product. He seems to slow up our forward play, particularly in comparison to the pace in which Stirling, Coutinho n Sturridge play. Although I think Turan is also in that category of player...pleasing on the eye but no end product.
