Goal-Machine: LFC desperate to sign €12m striker who's outscoring Messi & Ronaldo in the CL

With Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini, and Mario Balotelli all seemingly expendable at Anfield, Liverpool are sure to be linked with new strikers in the lead-up to the summer transfer window, and the latest name to enter the fray is Shakhtar Donetsk star Luiz Adriano.

According to reports on Thursday:

* Liverpool have scouted the 27-year old Brazilian 'for months'.

* The Reds were 'planning to sign him' during the January 2016 transfer window, but are now 'hurrying' to seal a summer deal.

Liverpool were linked with Adriano in January, and during the transfer window, Shakhtar rejected a £7.5m bid from Roma. CEO Sergei Palkin explained:

"We're still dealing with the Giallorossi for Luiz Adriano, but for the moment the [£7.5m] offer is inadequate"

Shakhtar reportedly want a minimum of €12m for Adriano, whose current contract expires in June 2016.

Some info about Adriano:

* 121 goals/37 assists in 253 apps for Shakhtar.
* Goal every 2.0 games
* Goal/Assist every 1.5 games.
* Winner of 15 trophies during his career.
* OCT 2014: Scored 5 goals in one CL game (matching Messi's record)
* Hasn't suffered a single major injury during his career.
* Averages 35 appearances per season over the last 5 years.
* Current top scorer in this year's CL with 9 goals.
* Shakhtar's leading scorer of all time.

At the age of 27, Adriano is the right age to make a move to a bigger club. He's spent most of his career in the Ukraine, and I'm sure he has the desire to test himself in a superior league.

It's hard to see the negatives with this particular deal. Adriano's stats are superb; he's never injured; has copious European experience, and given the contract situation, he'll be available on the cheap.

Worth a bid?

  1. yes just the type of player we need and reckon we have a decent chance of getting him.

  2. Looks like a good finisher on the vid, two footed.

  3. He would be a perfect backup, IF he can continue to produce at a higher level of competition. However, he has shown that in the CL, so that shouldn't be an issue. He's a quality finisher with good movement and feet, but he won't demand to start week in, week out.

  4. Yes worth a bid , Not one of these overpriced ,overhyped, overpaid ,injury ridden players.

  6. Like the look of this lad, think he'd fit our system well, available for a reasonable price... Ticks all the boxes

  7. He would fight for starting line up, and I think he would succeed...

  8. Had a good look at this guy on You Tube and he looks like he knows how to finish, although let's be honest, they're not going to put chances he's missed on.

That said he looks quick, moves well and seems to fit into the mould of centre forward that Rodgers likes. The price also ticks all the boxes.

My only concern is if he's played most his football in the Ukraine how will he be with the continuous higher standards of the Premier League.

Would prefer Lacazette but this may be a more realistic option that the real big guns are less likely to go for.

  10. He is Brazililian and played quite a few CL matches, I think he can live up to expectation..

  11. The onlz reason he would possibly that cheap is Ukranian crisis, 15 in Europe, and 20 in England is more realistic...

  12. Pity we didn't consider him this January as it may have given us a better chance of getting 3rd or 4th this season, as well as winning some silverware.

  14. Sturridge was not happy with the goal, yes. Anyone else remember when Sterling did something similar last season when Suarez scored a goal instead of passing the ball to Sterling.

  15. In the words of Brendan Rodgers [long story short, he agrees with Jaimie]:

"Rodgers said: "There's probably been a lot more of a drama made out of it than what it actually was.

"We scored the penalty and it's very clear who our penalty takers are in the team. Obviously when Steven plays, he's normally our No.1 penalty taker.

"With the players that were initially on the pitch last night, Jordan was our nominated penalty taker.

"If Jordan, Steven and Mario are on the pitch at the same time, we'd normally have Steven or Mario as the penalty taker. It just varies and really is with the player who is responsible for the penalty.

"Jordan Henderson showed last night what a team player he is. He respected Mario's position and that he is an outstanding penalty taker, and he was happy to give him the penalty to take it. Mario had the composure and calmness to finish it.

"We got the penalty and won the game."

Rodgers added: "We've got a whole raft of penalty takers here that are outstanding. Rickie Lambert has hardly missed a penalty in his entire career, so if he is on the pitch then there is another penalty taker.

"If you're the vice-captain and the captain is on the bench, but he comes on, it is the etiquette to go and then give him the armband. It's a similar thing with a penalty - if Steven is on the field, there is no drama as he takes the penalty. He is the first-choice penalty taker.

"After that, if Mario is on the field, he takes the penalty. His history shows he's scored nearly 30 penalties in big games, so he is an outstanding penalty taker. At the time when neither of them were on, Jordan was the nominated taker.

"Then Mario was on the field, [it was a] pressure situation, [and] Jordan was happy enough to take it, but he gave it to Mario, who gets his goal and there is no drama."

  16. Yup. He would fight, but he wouldn't expect to be given the place.

  17. Would give us a better chance of getting 1st, those you listed are still very much achievable...

  18. Oh, must have missed those (kicks). Thought he was as commanding as I've ever seen him. Can't believe the recent change in him. Forget a new keeper; just a solid deputy perhaps?

  19. Well said Sg needs to shut up,he's done nothing other than score penalties this season,if balo was taking all the penalties sg would be warming the bench moaned about game time and when he didn't get his way he jumped ship for all I care good riddance was brilliant 2 years ago but screwed up big time lately starting from that infamous slip,no legs anymore and no brains either perfect for america

    ReplyDelete
  20. good on balo your strikers should always take penalties.....no offence danny but if your playing how come hendo is taking them anyway ....looks like some can talk talk the talk and others cant

  21. Can's reaction after the goal anyone? Talking about team spirit..

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am being really picky. He has really upped his game I really hope he keeps it going ,

    ReplyDelete
  23. Its because he is english and Gerrard and the rest of the english crew desperately want him to fill the gerard void...imho after watching the club for 40 years i cant think of more underwhelming choice of captain ...to me he shouldn't even be in the team ,,,essentially he is a huff and puff player ...timid in possession ...has a good engine but not the ability to match ...has improved but is way off from being a top quality player ...often gets found out when the pressure is on ...inconsistent because he struggles ability wise so is only able to produce some quality occasionally ...some have compared him to Kuyt , but kuyt was an accomplished international who scored bags of goals and has ability ... Henderson is NOT international Quality thus he doesn't even make an inferior(to the Dutch) english side

all of this plays along the same theme ...the club has had a sort of identity crises especially inside...since benitez left ..Thus we have seen a trend that has set the club back ....nationality before ability ...tons of money wasted on average brits instead of looking for the best....

    Disappointed with Sturridge and SG.
What Hendo should have done after Balo has taken the ball away from him, is to move Sturridge away from the area, talk to him, and ask Sturridge to celebrate with Balo after he scored.
For me, Can is more impressive as a leader, the way he celebrated with Balo and offered advise to Balo's ears. He also asked Sturridge to come and celebrate with Balo. If I'm BR, Can should be made Vice-Captain next season.

  28. You said it was Brendan'd fault! I say Rubbish! Simple as that doesn't matter about a pecking order as you put it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Totally agree! The team is supposed to come first and Mario was the one putting himself first. Sturridge was trying to support the captain ie the team but some deem him to be the one with the attitude? I like mario and want him to do well but he has to be able to follow team instructions.
That said, this is a storm in a tea cup

  30. As long as we keep pushing, my fear is we need everyone to continue to improve and at the rate we are catching those above us it may leave us a little short, although I said 3rd at the start of the season and I'm sticking to it.

Out of the teams above us I'm taking Chelsea and Man City out of the equation but feel we are easily on a par with Arsenal, and are better than Man U, Spurs and Southampton, but we need to beat Southampton this weekend.

Regarding 1st, I still think we are a solid 3 to 4 players short regarding strength and depth of squad, but no doubting Rodgers is one of the best and most flexible managers out there at the moment.

    Roll on Sunday.

  31. Why? We need a new Gerrard. Not a new Borini.

  35. No. Just followed them from afar since the age of 5 and just love everything about the club.

  36. Yeah, the passion is obvious, even in simple remarks.. Love your moderate optimism...

  37. The team are doing well without Gerrard....could this be why he had a go on tv....I think he disrespected the club by making needless comments.....roll on next season come on the Reds..

  39. A tentative cheek stroke, while staring dreamily into his eyes, and he's ours.

  40. Don't often agree with you JK but in this you have it spot on! I too was disturbed by Sturridge's attempts to get Hendo to stop Balotelli from taking the penalty. Hendo often seems stressed by goal scoring chances and I suspect he was relieved that Balotelli, a penalty specialist wanted to take a pressure penalty. Sturridge's input confused the issue and may well have been because he didn't want Balotelli to be the goal scoring hero after Sturridge himself had not performed very well in this game. For me Balotelli is now the striker in form and deserves to start against Southampton, and I admit I was Balotelli's biggest critic earlier in the season.

I would pay 10 mill and seal the deal early, good player and knows how to score, should fit in well with Cortinho Studge and Sterling.

    ReplyDelete
  43. General consensus makes the most noise! Which was that Gerrard was foolish in his actions.

    ReplyDelete
  44. General consensus is that it was overhyped by the media which is obviously enough distraction for the simple mind, case and point.
