Legend: BR must sign 'world-class' £25m striker who's 'tailor-made for Liverpool'. Agree?

Despite the imminent arrival of Divock Origi, Liverpool clearly need another experienced, top-class striker in the squad, and Reds legend Dietmar Hamann has urged his old clubs to sign one of the Bundesliga's most prolific goalscorers.

Speaking to Sky Sports this week, Hamann insisted that Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski is 'tailor-made' for Liverpool. He explained:

“He [Lewandowski] came to Bayern Munich on a free but if there's an opportunity to get him I’d break the bank for him because I think he’s the best No 9 in the world.”

It's still hard to believe that Bayern got such an fantastic player for free; a year before the signing, Bayern offered Dortmund €25m, which is probably close to the fee they'll demand if the Polish striker leaves.

With 19 goals/assists in 29 appearances this season, 'world-class' Lewandowski is having a decent impact for Bayern, but he's increasingly frustrated with being on the bench, as he revealed in a recent interview with German newspaper Bild:

"Generally speaking, I always want to play 90 minutes, but rotation is part of the game. It's not easy for me to warm the bench. You want to help the team, but you cannot do that from the bench."

It's a nice idea, but Lewandowski-to-Liverpool is a non-starter. At Bayern, he plays alongside some of the world's best players, under one of the game's greatest managers, and is guaranteed to win trophies every single season.

Additionally, After pursuing Lewandowski for years, why would Bayern then sell him after only one season, especially when he's contributing well despite operating in a different role to his Dortmund days.

Money talks, though, and Bayern have a great opportunity here to make a huge profit. the German giants could easily sell Lewandowski for €30m+ this summer, and purely from a business point of view, it's an attractive proposition.

If Liverpool are going to spend big-bucks on a striker then I'd have no problem with the club spending €30m+ on Lewandowski. At the age of 26, his best years may still be ahead, and if he rediscovers his Dortmund goalscoring form, then he'd be a formidable signing for the Reds.

  2. £25 Million would be bargain of the century...where the hell did they get such a low valuation from!?!?

  3. Dietmar must of had one too many when he spoke to skys Calports

  4. Bayern's ruthless and have a habit of offloading striker that are not performing at the level they want (which is the case for lewandowski) if he starts being more often on the bench for the rest of the season i could easily seeing him leave for £25-30M especially if they have a highly rated target on their list (considering robben and ribery are not getting younger they could turn their attention to Reus)

  5. Yeah, it's a nice idea, but players like this won't be on Liverpool's list of likely transfers. It would be wise to make a polite enquiry but I'd guess that both the player and the club would knock back any interest. Liverpool will have to focus on young players who are on the fringe of establishing themselves i.e. before they become bona fide world class stars.

  6. One of my top-3 favorite players, I love even just imagining him playing for LFC although at this point it will never happen. Incredible in the air, great with the ball at his feet, steps up in huge games (4 goals in the UCL semi-final in Madrid in 2013) and plays well with other forwards like Reus. It's crazy he's not starting every game over Mueller but no way Bayern sell and definitely no way he comes here, Champions League or not.

  7. Muller would be the first name on the team sheet for me

  8. I don't care if it gets us in trouble with FFP and leads to the club's eventual demise, buy him.

  9. A chance to come slim though but would be a great get dont think he is the best number 9 in the world though.

  10. I think Muller is a very good player and has mastered the art of being in the right place at the right time to go with all the skill Bayern have up front. Lewandowski has such a great combination of skill, power and pace however I think he's the superior striker. Pep just wants an even more technical player up front to fit in with his pass-way-too-many-times system. I also think he just doesn't prefer out-and-out strikers to begin with if you look at what Zlatan, Eto'o and Mandzukic have said after playing for him.

  11. For what it's worth Lewandowski is only 26 so he's in his absolute prime and although established he's on the fringe of his team at the moment. Super long shot but I love the rumor haha.

  12. They have Muller who can slot on either flank to make room for him in the middle as well as enough money forever to find other players. The endless stream of money coming in means they'd be hard pressed to ever be at risk of violating FFP.

  13. We would win the title easily with this attack and him. If he doesn't come hope he gets stuck there to play winger or off the bench as he deserves.

  14. I doubt Lewandowski is for sale so that's a non starter. Top top player though.

  15. I doubt he'll stay to be a sub or a winger as Didi says..

  16. As nice as it would be, I can't see this happening.

  17. In terms of being an out and out striker, Lewandowski is probably better but he's very much pigeon holed as that. Muller is such a talented, intelligent, versatile player. He can play in any AM or forward position, plays the false 9 to perfection and has been the difference for Bayern AND Germany more times than I can remember. Off everyone at Bayern probably only Neuer, Lahm and Muller are pretty much assured of their place

  18. Wouldn't really classify Ibrahimovic as a traditional no9 these days, he drops way too deep during the build up. I think Lewandowski and Sturridge play a fairly similar game and I think Daniel's stats are actually better. If only we could keep him fit...

    ReplyDelete
  19. He is too skillful to wait for the ball... But he is in the box enough to be a no9 me thinks.. Fit Daniel is the best no9 in the world, yes...

  20. Muller would be the first name on the team sheet for me, too.

  21. I love the guy, and agreed.

  22. Well why in the world not (don't anyone dare answer that)?

Break the bank! Break another bank! Build a time machine to next year so we get the TV money and then switch the time machine back on and bring the money back to the now! ANYTHING! Just get him.

    Or Muller.

    Actually maybe I prefer Muller.

  23. Hahaha, check my answer below..

  24. I find it hard to dislike Ibra. OK, he's the smuggest of smug tw@ts, and he's been passed around Europe's top clubs like the office bike, but his goalscoring record is terrific and he's one of the game's great characters, capable of moments of magic. Grudging admiration.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Haha, I was indeed paraphrasing you ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I enjoy his smugness. The overall package is hugely entertaining and I find myself willing him to succeed.

    ReplyDelete
  27. His smugness is just him taking the piss out of everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Lewandowski wouldn't even think of coming to Liverpool. Get real people.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well if your talking talking true number 9s Falcao RVP Martinez Aguero are all up there possibly if your talking players that play as strikers in non traditional roles then a few.

  30. His dream was to come to___ fill the blank...

    ReplyDelete
  31. If he is 25 mil then I think it is possible to get him. What a player he is and he would be a bargain to someone like Gareth Bale

    ReplyDelete
  32. We're not going to be able to afford both a top class CM and striker in the summer, it has to be one or the other. The position that gets recruitment priority will all come down to how well Balotelli is playing by the end of the season. If he's eventually settled in well, I don't think we need to immediately go after another striker like Lewandowski. Leave whatever cash we have for a CM first.

  33. If you expect people to go to all that trouble the least you could do is make your mind up about who you want.

  34. obviously Ibra and Lambo are the two names on top of that list

Robert Lewandowski for 25 mill? Then Raheem Sterling for 6 mill

  36. It's neck and neck...

  37. Nah, Aspas shits on both of them.

    I'd prefer Dybala TBH

  39. Carroll's throwing his hat in the ring too (from the treatment table).

  40. Over Lewandowski? Come on now, you've had your fun

    ReplyDelete
  41. Would love to see him sitting next to Pedro on the bench. Wouldn't it be nice to say, 'God, Liverpool have those players they could bring on'. I dream of a squad like this, hopefully in the not to distant, a strong squad with genuine quality is a possibility.

    ReplyDelete
  42. This is why Allen is such a disappointment. With Hendo, Can, Lucas and a good Allen this is enough cover for, currently, two positions. Having to spend money to replace Allen has slowed the progress, a quality striker is required.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Studge, Origi and Ballo with Lambert and Sterling as cover could just do the trick..

  44. I my opinion there's better Pole about to blossom on big stage - Arkadiusz Milik. He plays for Ajax (on loan from German side Leverkusen). At 20 years old he's already twice the player Lewandowski was at this age. He's banging goals for fun for Ajax and in National Team - currently 27 goals/assists in 25 matches for Ajax. He's tall, technically good, has got great shot both legs with hammer of a left leg and 35% non-penalty conversion rate in Dutch league. And here is the best part - apparently Ajax has fixed price for him at the end of the loan - 2M Euros!! Last time we bought Ajax's best scorer it turned out to be not a bad move... (I am from Poland myself and I would be over the moon should we get him). Cheers

  45. Milik sounds a good option, but how does the 2M fixed price FOR Ajax translate to Liverpool's chances to get him. If he is as good as you say, I doubt that Leverkusen will sell him to any club with meager 2M unless they are contractually obligated which apparently is the case with Ajax.

  46. 27 years old and too good. If he was 21 and had potential then maybe!

    ReplyDelete
  47. He'd probably pull a muscle throwing the hat and still miss the ring
