Confirmed LFC line-up vs. Everton: Huge double-surprise; £42m-duo dumped from the squad

After his ineffective performance against Bolton, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has dropped Adam Lallana from the match-day squad for today's game with Everton.

FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Lucas, Henderson, Gerrard, Moreno, Ibe, Coutinho, Sterling

SUBS: Ward, Johnson, Lovren, Lambert, Sturridge, Allen, Markovic

EVERTON: Joel, Oviedo, Jagielka (c), Stones, Coleman, Besic, Barry, McCarthy, Mirallas, Naismith, Lukaku.

* Great to see Jordon Ibe getting a start, seemingly at the expense of Lallana. The young attacker played well during his recent West Ham cameo, and it'll be interesting to see how he responds to the pressurised environment of the Merseyside Derby.

* Sturridge is on the bench, which is (IMO) absolutely the right decision. He is not fully match-fit yet, so there's no sense in taking any risks.

* Lovren returns to the squad, but with Can, Skrtel and Sakho in good form, it's hard to see how he's going to break back into the team.

* Balotelli out of the the squad *again* - what is going on? He's not injured, and he's never going to repay the £16m fee if he isn't given a chance to contribute. It looks like Rodgers has basically given-up on the striker.

* Manquillo is also missing from the squad. Rodgers' treatment of the Spaniard is confusing, as he's been nothing but solid since arriving at Anfield.

The absence of Markovic may mean that Gerrard drops into midfield..unless, of course, Rodger plays Ibe at right wing-back.

Probable formation:

---------------------- Mignolet

------ Can ---------- Skrtel ---------- Sakho

-- Ibe ------- Hendo -------- Lucas ----- Moreno

--------------- Gerrard --- Coutinho

--------------------- Sterling

OR:

---------------------- Mignolet

------ Can ---------- Skrtel ---------- Sakho

-- Hendo---- Gerrard -------- Lucas ----- Moreno

------------------0 Ibe --- Coutinho

--------------------- Sterling

My prediction: 2-2

  1. Doubt Ibe will be played at RWB and it is a surprise that he has been picked for such a big match.

Your second lineup looks correct but I have a feeling we are going to struggle tonight.

What a waste of money Balotelli has been.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Lallana went off injured in the last game, so I guess he's unavailable.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Sick note he is becoming.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Thank f*** Johnson is not even on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I believe Lallana is injured, which is why he is not in the squad.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I remember the same questions were being asked when he started Flanagan for the derby last season and he had an exceptional game. I feel Ibe won't have any problems stepping up to the task.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thank f*** Johnson is not even on the bench.

    :-o He is...

    ReplyDelete
  8. was replying to Logan sorry

    ReplyDelete
  9. No prob I think Ibe will be a big surprise - in a good way

    ReplyDelete
  10. I reckon they are going to finish top 4 this season...

    ReplyDelete
  11. If we don't make it (likely) would rather them and Arse or Spurs to make it

    ReplyDelete
  12. Spurs are looking really good too at the moment. Arsenal always finsih top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  13. where can the match be viewed on line?
    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  14. Flanagan is a Scouser though. That tackle he made on Saldado last season was my favourite moment. Destroyed him!

    ReplyDelete
  15. vipleague.me is the best especially if you use google chrome, with ad-block plus, clear as a tv most times.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sturridge injured in the warm up.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think Ibe will be better than Markovic

    ReplyDelete
  18. So they are saying on TV, but he done the same last week, went to the tunnell, instead of the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I doubt Ibe will be playing at RWB. Most likely Henderson.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Southampton have been consistent and won again today. They have a very good chance of finishing top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Fair play to them, done a great job koeman. Would be happy for them to break the norm in the top four, as long as its not at our expense! Lets get this tricky one out the way.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Even so he'll be more meaningful than Lazar!

    ReplyDelete
  23. or at the very least the fans who pay his wages

    ReplyDelete
  24. That is the problem. We have teams ahead of us all capable of finishing top 4. If Rodgers did not mess about in the first half of the season then we would not be in this predicament.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So Lucas injured. Can has to play CM. End of the bloody story.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Gerrard could have one trophy after trophy elsewhere but stuck with us all these years and will not even get the chance to win the holy grail. What a player he has been for us. Drag us out of the sh!te on so many occasions. Pity he could not be an EPL winner...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Like I said Ibe is a better footballer, touch, dribbling everything. That shot was an absolute cracker! Lazar should be a squad player after Ibe.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Everton pretty comfortable.

    ReplyDelete
  29. This game looks like it's passing Gerrard by!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Who is actually showing any intention from our team?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I can't be critical of anyone, it's a tight derby. Ibe has looked good!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Markovic is a decent player. What gets my gut is that we spent £25m on Lallana when Ibe could have been utilised and we could have used that money to sign a goal hungry striker.

    ReplyDelete
  33. We could have used the 20m we spend on markovic to buy cuadrado in summer. There's just nothing special in Markovic

    ReplyDelete
  34. But nothing special ain't it? Gerrard has done enough for LFC. The players around him need to show that they can step up and none have in this match!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Gutted I can't watch the game lads... How is it looking? Looks like Ibe is doing well? Lucas God injured? Gerrard?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree! Ibe pre season was very good. I felt we could have saved money on Markovic though, at least Lallana has proven in the prem.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Everton are comfortable. That is all you need to know.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lallana has not lived up to the price tag!

At least we have seen that Markovic has the attitude to make it. Lallana was not needed and he is injured again?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Exactly. The games he's had has shown he is far from being indispensable. You're right he doesn't do anything particularly well apart from run in straight lines. Like I've said before he looks like an 800m runner who's just taken up football.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Take Moreno off ,Sturridge on
move sterling to left wing back

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think Ibe has been good, I think it's a game waiting for Sturridge. Away from home I did think we'd just turn them over. I sense an element of dissatisfaction from you?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Watch Johnson come on :-o

    ReplyDelete
  43. How has the defence been? Allen?

    ReplyDelete
  44. But I am referring to some of the regulars. It has been a very dull match.

    ReplyDelete
  45. We cannot take Gerrrad off because of the build up to the match . Sterling and Coutinho are too good. ibes been the best player . Maybe Allen off Gerrard moves back

    ReplyDelete
  46. The worst player by far
i would have moved Can upfield and Lovren on

    ReplyDelete
  47. My preference for Lallana is based on the fact that he is a better footballer, touch, passing & shooting etc. Markovic has youth on his side but he doesn't do the basics very well. I hope he improves.

    ReplyDelete
  48. If we concede I do not see us winning. Everton have dealt with us pretty easily. Ibe hit the post though.

    ReplyDelete
  49. If Gerrard is not performing then he should be taken off. The same goes for everyone. Wow Ibe really? I'm so glad!

    ReplyDelete
  50. where is lallana .why isnt he on the bench......criminal...gerrard has been awful he just hasnt got it any more to play a fast short game which you need with tino and sterling

    ReplyDelete
  51. Who do we bring on for Gerrard though, Lambert?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Lallana is a sick note.

    ReplyDelete
  53. No one has really stood out, but my original point was that Gerrard hasn't been involved. He's been at the edge of box a few times but has largely been ignored.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mate, how has spending £25m on him helped us this season?

    ReplyDelete
  55. i would have like balo on the bench for the last 20 how is he ever gonna kickstart

    ReplyDelete
  56. Logan, you strike me as a glass-half-full kind of guy...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well it is well known that Gerrard is no longer what he used to be but who is going to step up when he is gone? Based on tonight NOBODY.

    ReplyDelete
  58. ibe has been great

    ReplyDelete
  59. He played 38/38 games last year
he is unlucky this year, maybe we should stop rushing him back?

    ReplyDelete
  60. gerrad dm ....are you having a giraffe

    ReplyDelete
  61. Balotelli was also a waste of money. Not even making the bench. What a joke!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I came on here to cheer myself up and get some positive vibes for the second half - just off now to slash my wrists ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  63. i dont do positive its so yesterday

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ha ha. Get rid of the razor blades in your house mate!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree he's no where near his form of last season. But there's been glimpses of quality. Injuries has made this season stop start. There's lots of games to play this season, let's wait & see.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I didn't get positivity from you yeasterday either

    ReplyDelete
  67. Well have we looked like winning? Everton have a pretty good game plan. One goal and the game is theirs.

    ReplyDelete
  68. You're probably right which is why we need quality transfers this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  69. or ours Ibe hit the post

    ReplyDelete
  70. he should of got shut then in jan ...if hes not gonna sell him at least try him now and again...i just think bringing him and danny on together for the last 20 if we are behind or level would be a real threat

    ReplyDelete
  71. Quality transfers when we had almost £120m to spend last summer. Ain't going to happen next summer mate...

    ReplyDelete
  72. im positive i was negative yesterday

    ReplyDelete
  73. I have already mentioned that :-)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Unless we want to sell Balotelli for at least half of what we paid for him he ain't going nowhere.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Fact of the matter is that Lallana was not worth £25m and fact of the matter is that Ibe could have been given a chance instead.

    ReplyDelete
  76. but then play him ...any object is only worth what someone is willing to pay

    ReplyDelete
  77. What that it might be our game too- I doubt you mentioned that somehow. But if you did it was probably well hidden by a cloak of negativity and abject misery

    ReplyDelete
  78. I agree in principle but my issue is with Markovic not Lallana. If we continue current form then the owners may see enough to stump up the cash.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Come on Sturridge!

    ReplyDelete
  80. That Ibe hit the post.

    ReplyDelete
  81. But then they would have done so in the January window?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Why is Coutinho being subbed? Bad performance?

    ReplyDelete
  83. maybe a slight injury ...that can be the only reason

    ReplyDelete
  84. No just lacked cutting edge. Got into some good positions

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'd get Emre Can in midfield now. He's the only one in the side who can create the type of goal out of nothing he did for Sterling the other day.

    ReplyDelete
  86. What IS the matter with matter with Sakho ?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Lambert coming on. WTF?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Rodgers likes a fairytale...... we lack creativity though

    ReplyDelete
  89. Maybe Markovic would have been a better idea? Some pace???

    ReplyDelete
  90. I think we have enough pace tbh. we needed lallana to put his foot on it

    ReplyDelete
  91. I still think Emre is the answer. we should get him charging through the midfield making things happen. we're walking out there

    ReplyDelete
  92. We miss Coutinho s magic to create chances

    ReplyDelete
  93. Markovic would have been more of a threat than Lambert.

    ReplyDelete
  94. we should probably let Barcelona take Joe Allen now... if the price is right

    ReplyDelete
  95. Forget top 4 mateys... It ain't happening.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Any bloody price is right !

    ReplyDelete
  97. we set up to nick it today. Really dont like these tactics but we go again. Another clean sheet.

    ReplyDelete
  98. We could play them off against Real and Bayern

    ReplyDelete
  99. Disappointing we needed 3 points to keep in touch with the pack

    ReplyDelete
  100. Didn't lose. All our players still alive (I think). I'll take that.

    ReplyDelete
  101. If you play mediocre players like Allen and Lambert expect results to suit

    ReplyDelete
  102. Jordon Ibe is nbsc man of the match
What an awesome player he was credit to him
    deserves to play vs spuds

    ReplyDelete
  103. they'd have to throw in an egg mayo sandwich if they want piece of the action and none of that Asda brand crap either. hellman's or nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yeah Ibe is one positive to take from the game.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Snoozefest, both teams lacking in quality. Some effort from Ibe but other than that pretty disappointing.
Jay Jay performances like today are what made me have reservations about Sakho

    ReplyDelete
  106. My money was firmly on Joe Allen.

    ReplyDelete
  107. defo. Lambert isnt even a impact sub! we really should have brought Crouch back in the summer for a mill. He'd have been a bargain

    ReplyDelete
  108. I think Lucas died a little when he was replaced by Allen.

    ReplyDelete
  109. He was very lucky things didnt go terribly wrong probs the worst game ive seen from him shaky as.

    ReplyDelete
  110. We are so close yet so far from catching utd and southampton, why can't BR tell the boys to play high tempo from kickoff. We need to win 10 of next 14 to have a chance at 3rd.

    ReplyDelete
  111. He's all left side. Biiiiiig problem, he can only go one way and the opposition know this

    ReplyDelete
  112. He was probably worried Allen would get a brace and win MOM and Lucas would never get back in the side again. But.....

    ReplyDelete
  113. OK 6 points from the next 2 games (Spurs and Saints) or it's definitely bye bye top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  114. makes me wonder why Markovic was signed

    ReplyDelete
  115. In truth drawing at Goodison isn't bad but in the position we're in any draw is a bad result.

    ReplyDelete
  116. This type of matches we should be winning if we want to qualify for top 4. I don't know why BR talks so much BS. Liverpool will challenge for title next season? BR should sort out the current season first. Maybe he is just distracting owners from current season and giving hope for next breakthrough season so that he doesn't get sacked based on his achievements of this season. I know...quiet a theory.

    ReplyDelete
  117. The official LFC site says "dominant reds held to draw". I like a bit of positivity but that is plain deluded

    ReplyDelete
  118. Everton has been very poor this season. Should have won it.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Rodgers made them write that headline...

    ReplyDelete
  120. Statistically we were but only results count.

    ReplyDelete
  121. That sums up statistics then

    ReplyDelete
  122. I think you're overly harsh. 17 points out of 21 and 5 clean sheets in our last 7 league games is our true current form. We know derbies are always special

    ReplyDelete
  123. LFC will challenge for the title next season? Ha Ha Ha. Guinness World Records funniest joke ever...

    ReplyDelete
  124. We should go for 4231 formation.
    Manquillo skrtel sakho moreno
    Henderson Lucas/Can
    Ibe coutinho sterling
    Sturridge

    ReplyDelete
  125. I am always harsh on BR. I hope he is shown the door if we don't qualify for top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  126. And then when it doesn't work slag Rodgers for changing a system that was working? We've hardly lost a game with 343, lets stick with it.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Weak as water.... I've Ibe as MoM along with Can. Also special mention to Sakho for giving everyone open heart surgery. Again Steven was weak, Coutinho equation was solved by Everton. Should have won at least by a goal as we had the impetuous while they were shaky. I hope Lucas is not injured by not more than 1 day. Lambert/Allen should not have played instead Lovren as defender and Can as DM. Happy with another clean sheet. Wonder why Italian boys were rejected today? Goodnight!

    ReplyDelete
  128. It's the wrong crowd on tonight for anything other than wrought over criticism and pessimism

    ReplyDelete
  129. Not really it's a derby match away. Anything could happen. You don't just turn up & expect a win!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Someone stupid has to want to buy first. He ain't exactly selling himself!!

    ReplyDelete
  131. You were right the other day. We have reached the level of mediocrity.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Come on now... Go have a walk you'll feel better :-)

    ReplyDelete
  133. Sterling will probably leave for Real Madrid. and Ibe is a good replacement maybe even better

    ReplyDelete
  134. All our CB's are best suited to either playing in the centre of a 3 or in a back four.
Sakho would be awesome in the centre as he would have more options to pass. Skrytl rightly plays there but Rodgers needs to decide how we are going to play as I'll bet any money that if he is still boss next season, we will play with a back 4.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Haha...I have been pessimistic since December...a walk won't change anything. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  136. Is that a typo? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  137. Is that another typo? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  138. God this top 4 is a tough ask now. Have to beat tot'm. Ibe or Mark', my vote is Ibe.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Besides the match, that wasn't boring at all.

    ReplyDelete
  140. + Can to replace lucas if not fit tuesday. Would rather chance Lovren at CB than see Allen loose the ball again.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Here's a pretty incredible stat - 0 goals conceded in open play in our last 11 games.

A more frightening one - Moreno has scored as much goals as Lambert in the league, and more than Borini and Balotelli combined.

    ReplyDelete
  142. don't think they give AM the ball enough, too many of his runs go unused

    ReplyDelete
  143. I don't get it... And I hate that!!

    ReplyDelete
  144. You know what I've noticed that too, when watching games it seems like Markovic on the right side sees much much more of the ball.
And btw it's 3 goals conceded in open play not 0, got a bit ahead of myself.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Dammit missed most of the game but Jordan Ibe looks like a young Jimi Hendrix : )

    ReplyDelete
  146. its all two steps forward 3 back, rodgers just cant make the big decisions...just when you think you are out you are dragged back in ( homage to al pacino ) why gerrard wasnt took off is a mystery ....

    ReplyDelete
  147. and joe allen looks plays like a young joe pasqualle

    ReplyDelete
  148. Say hello to my little friend ( Joe Allen)

    ReplyDelete
  149. the ball naturally goes that way ,also if you look at how everton set up they made sure there was always someone stood in front of sako on the left making him play in field

    ReplyDelete
  150. Lallana's status doesn't change to me, regardless of weather he is injured or not -

"BR paid 25mn for a player, at 26 & at his prime doesn't start for a pathetic, mediocre, over hyped & boring England team".

Had he not been English, his price would have been 10mn, at best.

I am sure by now, BR doesn't have the guts to manage French, Spanish, German or Dutch Internationals.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Lallana needs to toughen up - cries off with little niggles too often -STOP BEING A BIG BABY

    ReplyDelete
  152. I don't either, which is why I WALK a lot

    ReplyDelete
  153. where you going with that gun in your hand?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Neither Gerrard nor Allen should have been in the match-day squad. Gerrard is past it and Allen is just a poor player.

    ReplyDelete
  155. What a waste, eh! We're he at any other club he would have been booed every game, but Liverpool have the best fans and the most patient fans.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Why did he take off Coutinho!?

    ReplyDelete
  157. Ibe seems a bit more assured

    ReplyDelete
  158. Derbies are exception to rule dude. Any other game, yes, but derbies can throw anything at you.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Nobody would be worried if Joe Allen had a gun in his hand, he couldn't hit water if he fell out a boat

    ReplyDelete
  160. Because he was having a poor game.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Ah, so just take him off and basically remove any creative outlet we have, especially with Sturridge on? Why bring Sturridge on if you're going to take away his primary supplier?

    ReplyDelete
