Marquee Signing: LFC prepare mega-deal for exciting £25m striker who's 'in love with Juve'

During the summer 2013 transfer window, Liverpool were linked with a move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, who was allegedly sought by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers as a makeweight in any deal to take Luis Suarez to the Bernebeau. Suarez stayed at Anfield for another year, so the deal didn't happen, but Liverpool are still on the lookout for another striker, and reports today suggest Morata is back on Rodgers' transfer wish-list.

Liverpool allegedly put in a 'concrete offer' for Morata during the January 2014 transfer window, and according to The Mirror:

* Liverpool are 'lining up' a summer move for Morata.
* Rodgers sees Morata as this year's 'marquee signing'
* Madrid insterted a £25m buy-back clause in Morata's Juve contract.

This season, Morata has 8 goals/4 assists in 27 appearances for Juventus, and Anfield legend Jamie Carragher recently highlighted the 22-year old as one Europe's top prospects. He told Daily Mail:

"Morata is one of the hottest young strikers in Europe. We have seen the impact Gerard Deulofeu, another young Spaniard, has made at Everton and it would be intriguing to see Morata [in the Premier League].

Spain U21 team-mate Thiago Alcantara certainly seems to think that Morata is heading for greatness, and over the summer, he told reporters:

“Morata is an exceptional player and he’s really given us a lot in this tournament. He helped us win the games that won us our group and get to the final too – he’s a great No9"

A transfer seems highly unlikely, though, as Morata appears to be deliriously happy at Juventus. When asked this month about life in Italy, he raved:

“I am truly in love with Juve and want to spend much of my career [here]. I cannot forget Juve were the first to make attempts to sign me. I wasn’t happy at Madrid, but Juve treated me like an important player."

This doesn't sound like a player who's thinking about leaving any time soon. However, declarations of loyalty from elite footballers are often not worth the air into which they're uttered, so you never know what might happen.

  1. I think we have to consider the quality players in the academy before going for expensive young transfers.

    1) We could have saved 20mn on Markovic by not sending Ibe out on loan.
    2) 7mn wasted on Alberto, Texeira looks much better player in his loan spell.
    3) I know little to nothing about Tiago Ilori, looks like 8mn wasted there as well. Feel Wisdom is better than him?

Before we buy any young talent, I would like BR to give some chances to academy players like Ojo, Rossiter, Lloyd Jones, etc. See if we can save on some transfer money.

  2. As we all know Suarez repeatedly declared his love for Liverpool and yet found his way to the exit, not to mention the Arsenal episode. It's a nice thing for players to say and I'm sure Suarez was quite genuine. I don't doubt his admiration and love for Liverpool, he just harboured ambitions to also play for Barcelona, Madrid and other great clubs. Morato seems to be making a definitive statement but who knows. If Liverpool make concrete offers and show the player that he is wanted then maybe he'll consider it. Still, why would he leave Juve who are doing so well at the moment?

  3. another player Liverpool are "trying to sign" that won't end up at Anfield, don't even see the point of this kind of article but whatever.

talking about transfer remind me of Doumbia, that a lot of people would have like to see us sign (allegedly a top player) and the guy (Walter Sabatini the DoF of Roma) that sign him already consider him as a flop.(of course after 3 weeks that doesn't mean much)

  4. Torres was deliriously happy at Liverpool too...

  5. and suso also was good whenever he played

  6. Lloyd Jones, Jordan Rossiter, Harry Wilson, Sheyi Ojo, Jerome Sinclair are the ones I have hopes for and maybe Joao Carlos Teixeira (who is 22 already though)
Brad Smith and Ryan McLaughlin looked promising at one point (before LFCTV taken from us), any news on them?

  7. Yeah Deulofeu made such an impact that they shipped him back to Barca and is now at Sevilla

  8. If he was he didn't quite show it the six months before he left...

Why do people comparing different type of players?!
Moreno is a great buy and a totally different player than Texeira. Do you see Texeira covering the whole left side?
Wisdom is not good enough for a starting spot in a pretty mediocre West Brom side but he has quality enough to start for our beloved team... Pretty bizarre if you ask me.

He was good in a couple of games but did you see him train?
If he was that good as people keep on stating here, he would be still playing for LFC. Texeira, Sinclair, Wilson, Brannagan and Ojo will get their chances and they will play once they deliver. Our first team is not an experiment and real life is not FIFA or FM.

  11. Yeah...but Suarez was in love too. Not that he was lying, just saying...

  12. What people see is Wisdom is beyond me ?

  13. luis alberto....is llori better than wisdom?

    ReplyDelete
  14. hes on about luis alberto not moreno.. the 7 mill fee he stated was your clue

Indeed, mea culpa. You buy some you lose some. Alberto, luis, will be sold. He is not playing much for Malaga.

Probaby both players are not good enough.

  17. ye iloris the same at bordeaux.. that 15 mill we spent on them seemed madness to me at the time, they were less experienced both internationally and at club level then suso and wisdom and were older then both of them.. cut our losses and try recoup half of what we paid is our best bet there.. we will be doing well to get 4 mill a piece... albertos on a 2 year loan at malaga doe so probably wont be able to shift him this summer

  18. I mentioned Luis Alberto because you mistook it for Alberto Moreno. I haven't seen Llori much, all I know is Wisdom is at least capable of playing in EPL. I didn't compare wrong players at all, just saying.

  19. I haven't seen ANY Liverpool player train. What is that suppose to mean? BR after Suso scored goal against Boro :- And young Suso hasn't had a lot of game time at all, but he has kept working and I thought he was really bright for us when he came on, and took his goal really well.

  20. German paper linking us to Khedira

    ReplyDelete
  21. Iago Aspas has scored a goal every 71 minutes for Sevilla this season . His record is better than Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar. lol

    ReplyDelete
  22. Think he started his first league match quite recently, so of course he is love with the club- trying to make an impression..

    ReplyDelete
  23. But what you say just demonstrates how little what a player says can mean...

    ReplyDelete
  24. khedira is good but naingolan and kramer would be my choices

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Rogers quote is simply down to man management. When Suso takes the football world by storm you'll be justified in saying, "told you so". I will be surprised if that happens.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am already sad about the fact that he chose AC Milan. From one bench to another.

    ReplyDelete
  27. He was on loan with no option to buy. Most blues I know would have loved him to sign. He was not "shipped back". Bare aren't selling him they just want him playing at a higher level than Barca B.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah. We have to stop believing that foreigners fall in love with our club. They're simply trying to get the most out of a short career regarding both money and trophies. Would Torres or Suarez have wanted to leave if Liverpool were regularly winning EPL and Champions League. I doubt it. How many of the few Brits that move abroad, stay in love with their chosen club? They go for money and/or a different life style, then come home.

  29. In Suarez's defense, he was with your wife and then Scarlett Johanson came along

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm pretty sure he didn't say that anymore in his last six months either.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well yes but most Blues you know will know very little about football. That's why they're Blues in the first place :-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. John Terry isn't short with big teeth and dark hair...

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think he did after the world cup...

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is not a marquee signing... we need a lacazette, Reus, Pjanic (sounds like he meets the bill), that Brazillian wing back we are courting, Benzema (overpriced perhaps)... Those are marquee signings

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well those teeth don't cut themselves you know. It's like with a hamster or a rabbit, if he can't bite stuff, the teeth grow out of control

  36. I can't see this lad leaving Juve, its a step down from Madrid to Juve, he wouldn't want another step down to Liverpool (as is how I feel we are viewed in Europe). I would like to see him here, just cant see it happening.
Few stories, including a German newspaper saying we are looking to get a pre-contract done for Khedira, he has rejected a new Madrid contract. What a free in the summer he would be. World Cup winner, massively experienced, coming into his prime...to quote Twistadee... Khedira (27) is class quality. And for me if your looking for a top class DM he fits the bill perfectly.

  37. Few injuries prior to Besiktas. Looks like a back three of Lovren, Skrtel & Toure. Can & Allen in MF.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree with your overall concept but the players you list are nowhere near ready for our first team in a top 4 race and Champions league campaign. They're not even physically ready. Ojo and Rossiter look like quality players but they've got a bit of bulking up to do and experience to gain before being ready for us and I trust the club to judge when these players are ready.
People need to realise as well that Sterling and Ibe are extraordinary talents and not every player coming thorough the academy is going to have their kind of impact. For every Raheem Sterling and Jordan Ibe, there will be ten Adam Morgan's and Jack Robinson. The key is to find a balance between signings and promotions through the youth academy.

ct me if im wrong but Wisdom and Illori plays different positions?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wisdom is very underrated

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nothing is better than wisdom

    ReplyDelete
  43. That explains the love bites then

    ReplyDelete
  44. wisdom is playing right back but his long term future is at center back according to rodgers..

    ReplyDelete
  45. the thing is he went on loan to granada and couldnt get a game and now at bordeaux its the same again.. he turns 22 tomorrow and as crazy as it sounds thats not as young as it used to be, hes the same age as moreno and couthino and older then sterling can markovic, hes only couple years younger then the likes of balotelli! he should be making more of an impact at the teams hes been on loan at but even though the teams are of a much lesser standard then liverpool they dont seem to fancy him for whatever reason.. 8 million makes him the 3rd most expensive center back in the clubs history after sakho and lovren and he should be alot further down the line in his development at this stage.. hopefully im wrong and he becomes a world beater but im not hopefull

    ReplyDelete
  46. A player may look a world beater in the reserves but that is still no guarantee he will ever make the grade at the top level especially at liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  47. And according to the player himself

    ReplyDelete
  48. Money would be the only reason. We'd be able to blow Juve out the water in wages.

    ReplyDelete
  49. will play wherever the manager wants

    ReplyDelete
  50. Jamie, what do you think about this dea? Seems a bit high for an unproven talent and his goal/assist ratio isn't that great either
