Great News: Massive FA-Cup injury boost for Liverpool as 'heroic' star is ruled out

Two weeks ago, 'heroic' goalkeeper Adam Bogdan produced an exceptional performance to keep Liverpool at bay in the FA Cup, but in a beneficial turn of events for the Reds, it appears that the Hungarian 'stopper is out of tonight's replay at the Macron stadium.

According to the Daily Mail on Tuesday:

"Bolton's performance in drawing 0-0 at Anfield was significant but in some ways the return may be more difficult, not least because their hero that day – goalkeeper Adam Bogdan – is now injured".

Bogdan made nine important saves to deny Liverpool, so his absence should (in theory) be a huge boost for Liverpool, who desperately need to progress in this season's competition.

In the aftermath of that game, Liverpool were predictably linked with a move for Bogdan, but when asked if there was any merit to the reports, Brendan Rodgers simply told reporters:

"Nothing at all."

Bogdan has already missed over two months of the season with a knee injury, and this latest setback will be a huge blow for Bolton.

Additionally, the Trotters lost 4-2 in the league at the weekend, which is not the best preparation for a massive cup tie with Liverpool.

Still, nothing is certain, and the biggest mistake the Reds can make is to underestimate Bolton and/or approach the game with any form of complacency.

As the last round showed, giant-killing is alive and well in the FA Cup, and with Man City, Chelsea, Spurs et al already out, Liverpool have a great chance of going all the way this year.

It'll be a great shame if Steven Gerrard's last chance of silverware ends with an ignominious defeat to lower-league opposition, so fingers-crossed that Liverpool make it through to the next round.

  2. If Mhkitaryan is because Dortmund are bottom of the league...he needs to show loyalty.

    ReplyDelete
  3. how many injuries has he suffered since that Dortmund move ? We may have dodged one there ,although i still think he is a good player..

  4. A footballer has no loyalties these days sadly ....

  5. He's going back to Swansea this summer, probably his last chance. For one season he was sublime...

  6. Not stevies last chance we still have the europa league which also offers champions league football next season

  7. Zidan thinks Stevie was world class. And than how much influence did Zidan have in winning that gold medal for france? Had there been Cabaye there, it wouldn't matter IMO, it doesn't mean that you have to be part of world or eUROPE CHAMPIONS( or semi finalists) to be world class. I mean that is saying that players like Jovetic don't have a chance of being world class. And maybe England's optimum achievement level wasn't semi final, because of the coach, of the pressure, of formation, squad picking.. Steven Gerrard is on of of the best midfieldesr in last 20 years, and at one moment he was the best there is, meaning world class..

  8. I was just about to say that. Beware the one season superstar.
    Examples? Benteke
    Keane
    Allen
    Jelavic
    Michu
Let's see him do it again next season. Then we'll talk...

  9. Damn, I really watch(and talk) a lot about Serie A, his name didn't come up entire season. Wow...

  10. We still have the Europa to go for as well as the FA cup.......and the EPL

  12. That's not my 'criteria'. My definition of 'world-class' is someone who excels/dominates at all three levels of football: Domestic, European (or equivalent), and World.

A player cannot be world-class unless and until he's had a specific, measurable impact on helping his team achieve their optimum achievement level (at all three levels).

Gerrard did that for Liverpool (domestic and Europe), but failed for England (repeatedly)

  13. Also, Bolton brought in about 7 new players at the end of the transfer window who are ineligible because they weren't on the squad for the first leg.

LFC have no excuses to lose this one.

    ReplyDelete
  14. You are the first person I know to say Steven Gerrard is not world class that is not just being in a banter with me..

    ReplyDelete
  15. That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it. I think differently, as do many millions of non-LFC fans.

A good comparison here is Frank Lampard: In my experience, lots of Liverpool fans don't rate Lampard as 'world class', yet he has an even better record than Gerrard (trophies, goals/assists etc). Chelsea fans will argue he's world class, but many neutrals will disagree.

Ditto Gerrard. For the most part, it's only Liverpool fans who argue that Gerrard is world-class. Objectively, and without bias, he is not on the same level as Maradona et al, and just because Zidane claims he's world class, doesn't make it so.

Gerrard has never done the business for England at any level; indeed, he captained the team to ignominious failure to qualify for Euro 2008, which dented his credentials even more.

In 30 years, Gerrard will not be *globally* revered in the same way as Zidane, Messi, Ronaldo, Cruyff etc. He's a amazing player, but not world-class. He had countless chances to prove it on the world stage, and didn't take any of them.

  18. I may say that, but I don't just say it as a throwaway comment. I can give detailed reasons why I believe that, and I have done, here:

  19. I would play Balotelli behind Sterling

  20. Not saying you are making a throwaway comment, just that I don't believe that many people that know something about this sport will agree...

  26. When everyone thinks you are wrong, you are absolutely wrong, or absolutely right.

    You seriously believe that?

Once upon a time, the majority of people believed that the world was flat. A handful of scientists tried to convince the majority of the truth, but they were deemed to be wrong. Using your logic, the ignorant majority were right.

That reasoning is seriously flawed. Majority view means nothing most of the time. The majority once supported slavery, which tells you everything you need to know.

The majority = ignorance. History is not made by the majority; it is made by people who question and challenge what 'everyone' thinks.

But yes, I agree that football is ultimately meaningless.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Know something about sport'- Caoches, players, ex players sport journalists..
And fans... Not saying I am sure they will disagree, just that I never heard one agree...

When everyone thinks you are wrong, you are absolutely wrong, or absolutely right.

This sport is fun, but ultimately meanningless...

    ReplyDelete
  28. But the majority did away with Slavery. The majority know that the world is not flat. The majority are not always correct but you be damn sure that the majority of experts will be right more times than not. The majority of experts (not you or me) would say That Gerrard is world class. Ronaldo will never win anything with Portugal. I suppose he is not world class then?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Literally the same thing with me posting what I read about that Freudian slip on the net...

    ReplyDelete
  30. No it is just Jaimie's source being right, and ours wrong...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Those things are different?

    ReplyDelete
  32. 'Know something about sport'? Right. Because mere football fans can't know anything about sport?

I guess historians who document the past must have zero knowledge too, as no one alive today witnessed 99.9% of the historical events that shaped the world, so how can anything they write/say have any validity?

I don't care whether people agree with me or not. Everyone has their own view; I prefer to base mine on objective criteria (as much as possible), not a subjective 'I see therefore he is' approach.

Subjective definitions of 'world class' are fun but ultimately meaningless (IMO)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Happened to me too... Who knows, mysterious ways...

    ReplyDelete
  34. If you can not see that they are, you will be banned in the name of democracy..

    ReplyDelete
  35. I can't be bothered to explain the same thing over and over. My definition of world class includes the concept of 'relative success', so yes, Ronaldo is world class.

    http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2012/06/world-class-football-performance-new.html

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah I've decided that your definition doesn't bother. We can just agree to disagree.

  37. The team that triumphs in the final in Warsaw on 27 May 2015 will gain a UEFA Champions League place, at minimum entering in the play-offs. If the UEFA Champions League winners qualify automatically through their domestic competition for the 2015/16 group stage, the UEFA Europa League title holders will also enter at the group stage.

  40. The title race didn't go to the last week. United won with a game to spare, last year was the closest we came in PL era. About missing players, we missed Mikhi, Sanchez, Willian, etc under Rodgers. Suarez staying has nothing to do with Rodgers or Rafa, the media were out to get him and his wife felt comfortable in Spain (She lived in Barca before marrying Suarez). Rodgers and the transfer committee's biggest problem is that they always lose out on big transfers for reasons that are out of their hands [Funds (Ayre), London, bigger payroll etc.]. You seem to forget that Rafa went from 2nd to 7th in one season with just losing Xabi having brought in Aquilani from Italy. Tactically they are poles apart but both had the same results.

And one last thing, Rafa had Chelsea and to some extent United to contend with financially (Arsenal were stingy after building the new stadium); Rodgers has to contend with Chelsea, City, Arsenal and United financially. FFP will help only after a few years and after stadium rebuild is complete.

  41. The reason why we could not score was nothing to do with Bogdan but with our wastefulness. We kept on shooting straight to him and any keeper can save that. For this tie, I will rest Coutinho,Lucas and Markovic, will not play Gerrard as I would save him for the derby, play Lovren,Skrtel and Sakho and Can and Hendo together.

  43. I think I was the first to mention him on here and very sorry we didn't get him. But from what I've seen from him at Dortmund he is part of the problem there and I wouldn't want him at LFC anymore for that reason alone. And also because I feel that if a player has turned us down once, they should never get a second chance. Even if they want to come. We are Liverpool FC, we need the good graces of no player.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Winner and title holder is the same thing or title holder means runner up? No it doesn't but that is what you ment?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Gerrard will come back on loan, play 4-5 matches in the EPL and will win it with us...

  46. Which period of history are you referring to regarding slavery? At the start of the 19th century nearly 3/4 of all people lived in some form of slavery and 2 Scandanavian countries were first to ban it Denmark being one- in this case that would make them the majority against slavery---nothing much has changed regarding the minority ruling the majority against their will whether they are aware of it or not--- the strong live off the weak and the clever live off both---one day a great rain is gonna come woo hoo

  51. To all of you guys -

    1. Rafa had H&G as his owner. Imagine Rafa under FSG

    2. I think, Johnson is getting unfair share of criticism here. He is never in the class of Danny Alves or Lahm, but he has 54 English Cap & when Rafa bought him 6 years back, at 24, he was potential to be one of the best. English players are extremely over priced & considering what clubs paid for Carroll, Downing, Saw, Lallana, Henderson, Bent & few others - GJ wasn't a bad sign. He is struggling for last couple of years, but probably 'll make the EPL team of the year every time from 2009 to 2012. @ Jay Jay - met, think about an English automatic starter at 24 for 20mn (Rafa paid 17mn, I add 3mn inflation adjustment) ............

    3. Rafa won nothing since 2007, but he made LFC a force to reckon. Finished in top 4, almost always finished in last 4 or 8 of domestic cups, 3 CL SF. Problem was, we were so much in debt servicing that, he never could build his team. I was constantly sell to buy.

    4. His great buys stopped after 2007, because after that he was in constant struggle with the owners & club officials without any football knowledge. He never had the players he targeted first.

    5. Compared to Rafa, tactically BR is a child. One trick pony whose tricks are exposed even to lower division clubs once Suarez left. His defense coordination is like novice. I like BR, no doubt, but he hasn't come out of mid table mentality. I think, he is more of a coach/trainer than Manager - afraid of buying players with big reputation or coming from big clubs. I believe, he 'll be a great Manager, but after another 5-7 years in EPL at least.

I also said that when the majority of experts agree on something they are right more often than not. Not always.

  67. The premier league is too physical and doesn't let all the amazing technically gifted players shine (ozil). Also the technical ability on average in the premier league is rubbish because of all the British players (english, Welsh, Scottish etc). Because of this I would advise these young British players who are talented to move to Spain or Germany so they can nurture them selves into world class players cus they will be surrounded by a more technically gifted game play just look at bale, he's not all about pace anymore his all round game has improved.

  72. Harry Kane(21) has been awesome player this season, but he is not anywhere near as good as R Sterling(20).

Sterling(20) can play numerous positions well and is getting better and better season by season and will become world class in the next few seasons. Whether playing in the hole or out wide if R Sterling(20) like P Coutinho(22) can regularly score goals season in season out against the best and top teams they will get that world class status.

  78. Rafa still didn't get within 2 points of the PL with all those top players, SG and Carra. He didn't get us into the CL every year after 2006-7, it was just once in 2008/9
And he bought some utter drivel throughout his time too, probably over 20 or so poor players, some of which cost a fair old packet

    ReplyDelete
  79. I am damn sure he missed the CL only when we finished 7th.......... besides we went to CL in 2006 even after finishing 5th as defending champs. I think, we played 3 SF with Chelsea alone.
