Rejected: Exciting €6m attacker confirms 'Liverpool's offer' & slams BR's lack of 'trust'

After being constantly ignored by Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool attacker Suso finally escaped from Anfield this week, and in his first interview as an AC Milan player, the Spaniard has revealed his disappointment with the his lack of playing time at Anfield.

Suso has signed a 4.5 year deal with Milan, and he will join the Italian giants immediately, bringing to an end a frustrating few years at Liverpool.

When asked over the weekend about his decision to leave, Suso insisted that he is 'very grateful to Liverpool' for giving him a chance to develop, but admitted that the Reds didn't do enough to keep him at the club. He told reporters:

"Liverpool's offer did not satisfy me, economically nor in a sporting sense. I have grown, but I have not noticed a lot of trust in me. I wanted a change of scenery. My objective? To play as much as possible and to return Milan to the Champions League"

Well, it seems that Liverpool didn't value Suso in any way whatsoever, and it wouldn't surprise me if the club tried to lowball him with a pitiful contract, with no guarantee of increased playing time.

As such, it's no surprise that he wanted to leave. At the age of 21, he needs to be playing regularly, and after only 21 appearances in 4.5 years, that clearly wasn't going to happen at Liverpool.

Unlike Sterling and Flanagan, Suso has never been given a consistent chance in the team, and in my view, the (partial) reason for this is Rodgers' strategy of marginalising and/or trying to get rid of players signed under previous managers.

Many Liverpool fans will be disappointed with Suso's exit. Indeed, I recently conducted a poll asking if Rodgers should sell €6m-rated Suso:

* 13450 (approx) visitors participated in the poll.
* 87% of participants voted NO to selling Suso.

In my view, Liverpool have totally wasted Suso's talent, and dumping him at the age of 21 is a glaring indicator of the club's utter failure to develop his obvious ability.

With the right coaching/development, Suso could've become a top class player for Liverpool, and if Rodgers had followed the Sterling template and showed level of faith in his ability, it's possible that the Spaniard might've blossomed at Anfield.

On a related note: Instead of bringing 19-year old Jordon Ibe back from his loan-spell, Rodgers could've brought Suso into the squad, and given him a chance to show what he can do. Why wasn't that a viable option?

It will be interesting to see how Suso performs at Milan. It's possible that Rodgers' decision to keep him on the fringes will be vindicated, but it's also possible that the Spaniard will go on to become a top-class player.

  1. I've been saying for a long time that he is trying to force out everyone he didn't sign.. and with his massive (undeserving) ego it would not surprise me at all if that is the reason for the contract fiasco with SG and constantly playing him in a deeper role so he is not as effective. ... he is a no talent garbage manager that has never done or won a single thing in his ENTIRE career.. he needs to go..he definitely has done nothing to deserve to manage a club like LFC.. he is a cancr on the team and we will be stuck in mid table as long as he's in charge...

  2. Remember BR scouting talents only go as far as spotting average players like allen, borini, lambert, mignolet, moses or those who have been coach and play under him before.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I am sorry to see Suso leave and do think he needed more playing time but this is all speculation.

It would be great if we could get the truth from BR himself

    ReplyDelete
  4. sometimes i wonder if you can get better on the bench or by not playing ......

    ReplyDelete
  5. Was Suso not playing in the U21 team ?

    ReplyDelete
  6. BRs reputation for bringing through juniors is shot in my eyes he has not shown 1 bit of faith in much other than Sterling and he cant drop him.
The kids coming through are going to be lucky to get a decent look in as instead of spending money on a few big name players he bought a heap.
Now the route to the team is blocked for many as BR will always try to justify the money wasted elsewhere by playing them instead.

  7. Or maybe he just isn't that good. Let's not forget that he just had an underwhelming loan spell at Almeira. There's little evidence to suggest that he will have any significant impact at Liverpool for the forseeable future, so letting him go seems a reasonable course of action. I have no problem with this whatsoever.

  8. Come on
he did not sign Henderson,Sterling,Skrtel, Flanagan,
If Suso played like Suarez will he leave no he wont

but i am still Rpodgers out
2.5m for kelly and suso is disgraceful especially when he signs players liek Allen for 15m

  9. It seems pretty obvious to me. Suso and Sterling both played a lot of games when Rodgers first arrived due to injuries to senior players. Suso, during that time, impressed more than Sterling did. He was more mature, more composed and had a bigger impact. However, he also had his two social media indiscretions and it seems to me that is the root cause of it all. We don't know what goes on behind closed doors and it suggests to me that Suso may not have shown the modesty Rodgers expects from young players "making their bones". You never saw senior players praise him like they would Sterling, Flanagan and Rossiter for example. As a matter of fact, you never see senior players praise any of our foreign talents.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The lfc interviewer has to ask about them the senior players the question
    which they dont

    ReplyDelete
  11. He called Enrique 'gay' without even knowing what it meant. Suso impressed more than Sterling in the youth stages and played quite well when he was first brought on. I think it all started when Suso was substituted for Hendo before half time. While it revitalized Hendo's career, it killed Suso.

  12. He actually had quite a good spell at Almeria. At one point, he had one of the highest assist tallies in the league. But, he was caught smoking or something like that and then was ostracized. His impact was still big enough to save them from relegation.

    ReplyDelete
  13. He is a cm like Pirlo or Alonso
    his passing range is superb
rodgers stalled his career trying to play him out wide then Almeira followed, same with Wisdom he is a center half being wasted out wfull back at lfc and subsequently West brom

    ReplyDelete
  14. He is a CM, that part I agree with at least. But comparing him to Pirlo or Alonso is laughable.

  15. Someone mark this post - I 'll be waiting to get a bashing..

Suso 'll play for Spain & come 2020, he 'll be a better player than the handsome English man, we paid Southampton 25mn.....

A top quality talent, who had the EPL game with a Spanish flair & a qualified "home grown"

    ReplyDelete
  16. So in the entire time he was at the club we didn't try to develop his ability? What a load of rubbish, what do you think the coaches were doing with him, asking him to set out the cones?

This is the same Suso that got 20 games before his loan, he scored once in that time and only created 8 chances. I'd say that was a good run in the first team with faith and trust shown in him.

I also seem to remember questioning his attitude when he came back from the U21 World Cup and said he was too good to play for the U21's.

Obviously not good enough after a decent run I'm the first team, first class coaching from the U21 set up and 1st team set up and a bit of an attitude problem.

I'm glad we got a decent fee for him

    ReplyDelete
  17. He said something similar about Alonso but never about guys like Suso, Pacheco etc

    ReplyDelete
  18. Pretty ridiculous, but I remember watching him a couple of years ago and reading up on him and he was always compared to Alonso (not alonso of today, more of the old school, more mobile alonso). Obviously he isnt (and I dont think he'll ever be) at that level, and I think people hype him up to more than he actually is. And to Sid, I think he was top of the assists chart in la liga, but I'm pretty sure that was after 1 or 2 games...

    ReplyDelete
  19. If it doesn't turn out like you say it will, will you mention it?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why would he say 'he's the best I've ever worked with' about Pacheco or Suso? Don't turn it into some kind of conspiracy.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Consistently inconsistent...

    ReplyDelete
  22. I watched a lot of the academy an reserve games an in my opinion he was a more mobile/fwd thinking alonso, he was well ahead of his time. The whole crooks matter of it is he was never giving the patience as other players. I certainly think wev missed a trick

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm not sure you're right about Suso having a bigger impact than Sterling. Have a look at their stats for that period, I'm fairly confident Sterling outperformed Suso, especially with chances created

    ReplyDelete
  24. What is decent about that?!?

    ReplyDelete
  25. if you ask me, he's more the silva type of player...

i personally think he will do a good job in italy for milan, but he's not really needed at lfc. we have a lot of superios players in that department. + we never know what's going on in training...

    ReplyDelete
  26. nothing to be honest. shelvey left us for about 4-5m

    ReplyDelete
  27. And so did bloody Assaidi...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hope we don't have the same cock up with Canos

    ReplyDelete
  29. Success do bolster egos! Rodgers was in the pink of his ego after finishing the previous season on a high without realising that it was due to the players signed by Dalglish. Now there is a transfer committee at LFC but the manger does have a larger say in it. Lovern, Balloteli, Borini and Lambert are their biggest failures. Think where we would have been in the points table had we signed Bony in the summer and not had let Agger go. Bony was available for 20 million and as per Agger, how much game time did he get after regaining fitness. Not without reasons Barca and Real wanted his signature in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I watched every single one of his loan appearances and I saw nothing
whatsoever which made me think he looked like being a player for
    Liverpool.

The lad would be in competition with Coutinho and Sterling, who are a similar age. Spot the difference, anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well you are talking shite. A "cancer on the team"? That's so far over the top it's not even funny, even if you don't like him or his style of management, describing a Liverpool boss working his heart out for the club as a "cancer" is disgusting. Your language is too over-the-top for anyone with an ounce of common sense to take you seriously. "stuck in mid table"? Whatever you say. Short memory though.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You call Agger fit? His legs had gone completely. He was getting outpaced by trundlers. He wasn't a premier league defender anymore. Clubs weren't queuing up to sign him, were they.

Wait and see how Bony gets on at Man City before claiming he's the new Ronaldo.

This ignorant conspiracy nonsense is unjustifiable. What evidence do you have for these preposterous claims? It's misguided and frankly pathetic. You don't think signings like Sturridge, Coutinho, Sakho, Moreno, Markovic, Can and Lallana represent important successes in transfer business?

Listen up. If you fail to give credit where it's due, even to people you don't like, you sound like a bitter, biased, and childish... person.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Rodgers policy of getting rid of players signed by previous managers? What like Henderson, Sterling, Skrtel, Flanagan etc. The premise is utter drivel. Suso was not good enough so he went. Sterling was so he stayed. Simple really.

    ReplyDelete
  34. its possible we let suso go because of the strong emergence of Sergi Canos and Harry Wilson in our U18s. u18 football or not, make no mistake these young boys play some brilliant football and their chemistry is priceless.they play the LFC way to perfection and all know each others movements and strengths. if we integrate them into the first team we could have a squad as good as the old barcelona that had all there academy graduates who know each others play from a young age. Wilson, Canos, and Marsh are all ready to play for the 1st team mixed with 1st team players IMO. and with sterling and Ibe already from the academy in 3 years we'll have a squad of superstars. Canos has potential to be as good as Lionel Messi. his finishing is ridiculous. so clinnical, any finish Lob or chip, finesse, long shots. and he got brilliant movement and anticipation. big potential there. if we give him a run of games up front like Borini, Balotelli and lambert have had he will improve and show maturity.

    --------------Emre Can--------Skrtel---------Sakho
    Markovic---------Henderson------Lucas----------Sterling
    -----Wilson/Coutinho------Canos----------Ibe

    and when Sturridge comes back

    -------------Emre Can--------Skrtel---------Sakho
    Markovic----------Henderson-------Lucas----------Sterling
    -----------Canos----------Sturridge--------Ibe

subs on Gerrard for Henderson, Coutinho for Markovic(Ibe into Markovic position) and Lallana for Canos.

we need to get Ibe and Canos into the team. Ibe is like Alexis Sanchez, they play exactly the same. the shoot, dribble and run the same. very direct players. Ibe needs to watch videos of Sanchez to become the finished article. i love the way just before he crossed at sunderland he took an extra touch forward to trick the defender then cross, but coutinho mucked it up. Sturridge definately wont. Neither will Canos. I really want Ibe to become the new Alexis Sanchez. we need to hype it up because if he looked at himself he will realise he does play very identical to Alexis Sanchez. if he can add the Work rate in the non stop pressing and being a menace to the opposition(something he has already) then Ibe will be unstoppable. we need to give them proper 1st team numbers and have a base team because its just getting ridiculous always changing the lineup. Markovic and sterling with the flair and pace to open up the wide areas and Ibe and Sturridge with the incredible pace and finsihing to get behind the backline. Canos with the finishing and playmaking skills to complete the front 3.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Emre can, sakho, lucas and Skrtel are all solid and brilliant passers on the ball, so they allow the flair in front of them to overload and kill the opposition. despite having 3 defenders, without Gerrard starting and Lovren far away from the team, weve conceded less goals. Henderson, Markovic, Sterling, Ibe, Sturridge and Canos will have the freedom to overload on the opposition.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes remember when he signed Captain Hendo?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Considering he was going for nothing in the summer I can't remember a clamour for his signature. So for a player who would've still been on our books and probably sent out on loan again or released by us, I'd say 1m is not too bad

    ReplyDelete
  38. Or Sturridge who has been a record goal scorer for us or bringing Sterling through and the youngstee establishing himself due to his talent, intelligence and HARD WORK!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't agree with you about missing a trick but up-voted anyway for having a cracking name ;)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ibe? And others have had a go in the first team. I remember whilst ignoring Suso and giving Texiera a go he praised how hard the Text had been working.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wasn't that on like the first three games or something. Is smoking enough to get ostracised if your a team threatened with relegation and he was all that good?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah I said three games.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Suarez said racist things and got all bitey. If a player is good enough he gets forgiven. I remember Suso showing some signs in those games but I also remember him disappearing all together especially after someone got a bit physical with him.

    ReplyDelete
  44. In five years will anyone remember or care?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Better than nothing and our of contract at end of season.

    ReplyDelete
  46. There aren't enough up votes in the world for you Robo

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thrilled to hear those things about our academy..
You noticed how Markovic improved his defending on the wing back? Last game he looked better than Johnson ever did. That position can be the entrance ticket for attacking youngsters, bar forwards. Think it is time we introduce Ibe there with Markovic going further up the pitch- he already learned a lot about positioning and defending and with him, Lukas and Can helping out Ibe, Ibe's potential defence mistakes won't lead to goals. Besiktas game is perfect for it..

    ReplyDelete
  48. The juniors haven't had much of a look in and will continue to get pittance we have just wasted money on too many players.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Milan signed him for 4,5 years, they want him, and rate him highly.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Moreno maybe Manquillo too?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Maybe mushrooms is how codecracker becomes shamsy? It's his banana...

    ReplyDelete
  52. We'll see how good he is wont we.

My view is that if more than one Big Club want a player that we have he must worth keeping.
I'm not sure Suso is in that category but we'll know soon enough.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Was gonna edit cause I forgot Moreno. Still not sure re Manquillo, and I prefer Flanno to become regular, so I am kinda biased...

    ReplyDelete
  54. What does he think he going to just walk into the Milan team? I think it was more an attitude and work rate problem than obvious football ability that he didn't get a lot of game time with us. It's obvious if you work hard show the Wright attitude Rodgers will give you a chance as a young player coming through so definitely in my opinion looks like Suso didn't show enough to merit more chances here.

I hope Young Ibe gets decent game time now or bringing him back from a loan spell where he was playing regularly and learning or its a very bad move by us to bring him back here so soon. I would of preferred to see him stay out on loan for the whole season as it was clearly working for his development.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Shelvey still had time to go on his contract when we sold him, he signed a new contract with us in 2012 and we sold him the following year. He also had a senior England cap

    ReplyDelete
  56. Would that be the wasted money on players who are contributing to our form improving? It's a nice idea that the academy kids are fantastic but truth is most won't make it at the level we need. If you can name some players who would be doing a bette job than Can, Markovic, Lallana, Moreno or Manquillo I would love to hear about them. But I would be taking it with a pinch of salt.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Personally I think he will do well at first. Have an up and down first full season. A lesser next and be at another club within three years. Not a club who will be any better.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Good for them, I genuinely hope he does well for them. Still doesn't change the fact we didn't rate him enough after a reasonable amount of time in the 1st team, and an ok-ish loan, to think he was worth offering the contract he wanted.

Just a quick question for you; Suso said the contract we offered wasn't right financially, would you have offered him a contract in parity with Coutinho, a player of similar age who he would have been in direct competition with for a place in the 1st team? Cause I bet Suso didn't just want a small increase on his wages

    ReplyDelete
  59. While the language maybe over the top, it is clear that BR has let the club down on players like Suso, Adam Morgan

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm not sure Milan offered as much as Couts gets... All in all- water under the bridge, and we have enough youngsters not to regret this decision...

    ReplyDelete
  61. And then did he play Texeira again?

    ReplyDelete
  62. The mushrooms? Er nice. he has been having loads of them

    ReplyDelete
  63. adam morgan? you must be kidding

    ReplyDelete
  64. No maybe about it. The person who never makes mistakes never does much

    ReplyDelete
  65. I don't really see it with those lads, sorry mate: "let the club down"...? That's too strong. The players didn't kick on. That's life!

    ReplyDelete
  66. 10m for Can is starting to look astute. Maybe we've overpaid for some players, but wasted? I wouldn't say wasted just yet, although I'm finding it hard to apply my own opinion to Lovren and Balo

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yeah, I'm interested in that one too! :)

But Teixeira is not really like Suso in key respects. He has work rate for one thing. And he's deceptively big and strong. He can tackle and impose himself. He's still somewhat limited in terms of the areas where he's able to make a contribution consistently, but even so he can influence the shape and flow of the game positively by using his strengths. He seems serious and focused. He is still raw and makes too many mistakes to feature for Liverpool yet, but I think Teixeira still has a great chance.

He looks like a No. 8 to me, probably more in common with Jordan Henderson than Suso, who looks like a trequartista, well suited to Italian football: he just didn't have the pace or work ethic for senior football in England.

    ReplyDelete
  68. '...outpaced by trundlers....' Priceless.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Markovic was defending so well. It was awesome to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Are you just pretending not to understand?

    ReplyDelete
  71. They offered him contracts too. Maybe they hoped he would mature or maybe just wanted a fee. Truth is kid ran his contract down yet somehow Rodgers is a villian.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think we need to give it a bit more time before we go that far. I hope you are right though.

    ReplyDelete
  73. In fairness, I don't think we can claim he had "obvious ability" since he rarely played.

Nonetheless, I would have liked to see him get an opportunity here to show what he could do.

It's a shame, but I wish him the best of luck in Italy.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I've never heard anything so ridiculous as this "theory" that Rodgers is trying to get rid of players he didn't sign. It's just ludicrous nonsense. Hendo, Skrtel, Lucas, Flanno... The list goes on. The fact these players all play regularly and Hendo is in line for the captaincy PROVES it to be spurious drivel and I really don't know how anyone could buy into that

    ReplyDelete
  75. It's true Jock. He also doesn't like tall players or players who are not British. Basically think of something stupid and then write it down before you have given it a seconds thought.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Kop,
    Good post!
is there a site or two where I could watch some video of Sergi Canos and Harry Wilson? Let me know ............

    ReplyDelete
  77. The fact is you could have applied that logic to Sterling and voila but i will concede most wont make it but financially speaking if the club are to attract top talent we likely cannot afford to pay good wages throughout the squad.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Thought I had. No swear words, no personal insults towards anyone. Oh well better luck next time I suppose

    ReplyDelete
  79. Cant you see having this so called depth does not allow for the kids to get a pathway the cups teams picked dont a;llow for much game time either.
You could applied that logic to Sterling and Flanagan and voila.
But one major factor is going to be financial can we afford to pay good wages throughout the squad and still afford to pay top liners to come i say likely not.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Well it depends on what one expects from the amount spent i think there is quite a few with great potential but potential isnt delivering real results just yet is it.
The club truly needs to attract top class talent we are still a world away from the Chelseas Cities even Arsenal.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Like I have said before Ibe was behind Markovic in his prgression. Markoic has won two titles and been in a team that got to a Europa league final. Ibe has barely played first team football. In the beginning of this season Markvic barely played and Ibe got lots of game time. Which would have been better for him? By all accounts he has progressed and Markovic too looks up to speed. Is having more than one good player a bad thing? Did Ibe not get some minutes the other night. Will he get any going forward? Markovic is very well regarded by those in the know. Our academy kids are not as far down the line and like Ibe may benefit from some good loan spells. But also as there are also players aging and leaving this frees spots in the team too.
The new players have not been involved a lot but since they have come in regularly we are one of the form teams in the league. They needed time to settle. So what? Would academy kids have come in and done better quicker? I highly doubt it. You mentioned Sterling and Gerrard. Good examples. Examples that IF you are good enough you will get to play. But GOOD enough is more than just skill or talent, it is hard work, determination and intelligence.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Good wages? But what wages are new signings on? More than academy kids for sure but less than Reina, Agger, Gerrard, Johnson, Suarez. Some of those names are and will be missed and others less so but that is huge amounts of wages available. With the fuller squad and academy kids to supplement perhaps the summer will be when we offer a big name player the money they want. Big Ifs like but this summers signings shouldn't affect that.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Would that be the Adam Morgan who moved from Yeovil to St Johnstone? (The big time) And where were the prem. Clubs fighting over Suso.

    ReplyDelete
  84. That would depend on who how many and how much to get them here and lets not forget we need to offer overs to get big names to come thats for sure.
Our part in Fpp doesnt allow us much left i gather after the Eufa investigation into our expenditure.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Simple enough - Suso didn't offer Liverpool what the manager thought the team needed. To suggest he didn't have chances is ludicrous. He was with the first team for a number of years, had a number of starts and games off the bench. If he was right for the team and showed the right skill set and attitude then he would have played more. Of course we don't know the specifics of it but the suggestion that this was some kind of campaign by Rodgers to get rid of previous signings is nonsense and there is zero evidence to back that up. Rodgers discards players who don't suit the way he wants Liverpool to play. That includes Suso. I'd suggest everyone get over it.

Players don't magically come good because you give them playing time. Sterling didn't become a good player because Rodgers gave him a run in the team, he was ALREADY a good player who proved it in training and as soon as he was given a few starts he was brilliantly impressive. Suso had a run of starts and was simply OK. That's the difference. Giving Suso more game time would have simply meant more games where he was simply OK and the team probably would have suffered because of it. Liverpool is not an academy for young potentials to get free time in the top football competitions in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I understand that you feel liverpool have wasted his talent and failed to develop him blah blah blah.. But where is your usual, 'Does Suso leaving directly impact the team, form, etc.' chat? the answer of course is no, so why does it matter..

    ReplyDelete
  87. from here to obscurity.

    ReplyDelete
  88. The point i have made all along last window we had C.L a pot load of money to spend yet have performed poorly.
This was the time to get a top name player in and although i like Lallana 25 mill was nearly twice what he was worth.
Liverpool will battle harder now to get names in with Gerrard finishing up and C.L looking unlikely.
Regardless of how you look at it most of our wins have been unconvincing and we needed to get more bang for our buck.

    ReplyDelete
  89. The new signings and the likes of Sterling and probably a couple of others will soak up the wage bill a bit.
If for example we wanted Benzema and Pjanic well theres 300 plus thousand a week going onto the bill.
We really dont have much money and our lack of real top class talent is a worry.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Robo your entitled to your opinion like everyone else....but I agree that this moron of a manager is a complete embarrassment to this club. He is supposed to be a good man manager who knows how to treat players.....maybe you would like to ask the likes of Agger Renia, Carroll, Sahin, and SUSO, infact let him answer to Andy Carroll comments.....then maybe we can see what this guy is all about. Sorry but I cannot have respect for the IMPOSTER.

    ReplyDelete
  91. And he is STILL a cancer on this team!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Remember when Hendo was average overrated garbage... oh yea.. he still is...

    ReplyDelete
  93. Wow how long you been waiting to throw that out? Four months ago o wrote that.
