Done Deal #1: Agent confirms 'four-year' transfer for exciting €6m playmaker. Mistake?

After months of speculation, the Agent of constantly-ignored Liverpool star Suso has confirmed that the Spaniard is leaving Anfield.

On Tuesday, the Daily Mail claimed that Liverpool had 'agreed a four-year deal with AC Milan', and when asked last night about the alleged transfer, Suso's agent, Jaime Serra, told MilanNews:

“I can confirm we have a four-year deal between Milan and Suso".

It's unclear whether the deal begins in January or next summer, but according to Serra, leaving this month is definitely on the cards:

“Can he join Milan from January? It is a possibility, we’ll see what happens at the end of the transfer window.”

This is is disappointing news, and it seems that a significant number of LFC fans feels the same. After being linked with Milan in November, I conducted a poll asking if Rodgers should sell €6m-rated Suso:

* 13450 (approx) visitors participated in the poll.
* 87% of participants voted NO to selling Suso.

In my view, Liverpool have totally wasted Suso's talent, and dumping him at the age of 21 is a glaring indicator of the club's utter failure to develop his obvious ability.

21 appearances in 4.5 years? Ridiculous. Unlike Sterling and Flanagan, Suso has never been given a consistent chance in the team, and in my view, the (partial) reason for this is Rodgers' strategy of marginalising and/or trying to get rid of players signed under previous managers.

As the poll above shows, many fans have faith in Suso, but some still regularly malign him by spreading unsubstantiated rumours about why he's never in the team, the most prevalent of which are the following:

* He must be performing poorly in training.
* He probably has an attitude problem.

There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to support either of these spurious allegations; Rodgers just doesn't seem to rate Suso, and the most damning evidence of this is the Luis Alberto fiasco, specifically: Why spend £7m on Alberto when the Reds already had Suso? It still doesn't make any kind of logical sense:

* Alberto wasn't needed. Suso could've easily taken his place in the squad.
* The Reds could've spent the £7m on someone else (or put it towards another player)
* Alberto failed at LFC, and his presence in the squad stunted Suso's progress at LFC.

This is transfer incompetence of the highest order. It doesn't matter what way you slice it, there is (arguably) no justification for signing Alberto and sending Suso out on loan, and it's decisions like this that will (IMO) cost Rodgers his job somewhere down the line.

With the right coaching/development, Suso could've become a top class player for Liverpool, and if Rodgers had followed the Sterling template and showed level of faith in his ability, it's possible that the Spaniard might've blossomed at Anfield.

Of course, it's also possible that Suso might've crashed and burned, but now, we'll never know...

  1. Every day I hang my heavy head with more news of the clubs transfer 'business' It must be awesome supporting another club because even the lower teams get to laugh constantly at our farsical transfer policy. Nothing we try seems to work and it's devestating me.

    ReplyDelete
  2. What I do not like is the constant protection of Rodgers. When he does something bad, people always come to defend him saying that the fault was with someone else but when he does something good, people always are the first to laud him.

    ReplyDelete
  3. And, as I say this, Utd are signing Valdes. What an absolute joke that he rejected being first choice for us to being a bench player at Utd. What are Rodgers and the transfer team doing?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I too am deeply disappointed by this, I agree our transfer activity is a joke, wernt FSG going to have a meeting with Rodgers about our transfer policy?
The only explanation is like you said, he has a poor attitude and isn't performing well in training. I know you said there is no evidence to support this, but how would we know what goes on behind closed doors? We can listen to other pundits have their say on the matter and take what we want from it, at the end of the day we will never know.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Valdez is a poor keeper no loss there

    ReplyDelete
  6. I think i am right in saying that Valdes agent is the same as Di Maria and Falcoa. Ronaldo too I think.

    ReplyDelete
  7. There are some of us who do both. Criticise and defend depending in the situation.

  8. Disappointed rated Suso not sure why he never got the chance neat little player could be an excellent n.10 he isn't suited as a wide forward for us hasn't got the pace but I do think he has a brilliant left foot though

    ReplyDelete
  9. Also don't mind him going if Shaqiri is coming that'd be a significant upgrade

    ReplyDelete
  10. Don't count on it we couldn't attract flu with this lot calling the shots- I'd like Shaqiri now Lallana is out but can't see it happening

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't know why Suso didn't get more game time but he has been offered new contracts more than once. In the end the player has to show the manager he should get games. Sterling has done it.

  12. What are Rodgers and the transfer team doing?

    1) Bringing the wages down

    2)Not signing established respected players

    3)Maximising the revenue stream

4)Not getting the targets they seek

I could go on and on but you get the jist of it

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm not sure what to make of this reaction from the people who post on this board regularly.

What did you really expect to happen?

Any player who has any ambition from now on will no longer STAY at Liverpool FC.

Many of you have forgotten the MODEL that FSG planned to ADOPT when they bought LFC.
They stated that they would model the transfer policy on Arsenals (please go and google it yourself).
This means they will only buy young players with potential and if they are good they will mature them and sell them on to other clubs.

FSG is a BUSINESS and sees LFC as a franchise to be marketed and for profit making to come in.
They are NOT FANS they are BUSINESS PEOPLE.

I stated on here some time that Transfer Committee IS NOT WORKING.

    Here's why .

    1) Failure to address Gerrards contract at the end of last season

    2) Failure to get any of the established targets instead of shopping in Fortnum & Mason , Harrods, et tal we are shopping in Aldi's (

    3) Lack of foresight in 3 areas GoalKeeper, Defence, Strikers

    4) Scouting is network from what I know is not as big as it was under Kenny or Rafa. Less Scouts= Less eyes watching players.

Welcome to the new dawn of LFC while this situation persists

  14. Where are AC in their league right now?

    ReplyDelete
  15. United let Pogba go and Chelsea sold us Sturridge. This happens to talented young players at big clubs. Clearly the coaches don't rate him enough and he probably isn't as sure a bet as most fans seem to think, or one of the bigger Spanish clubs would have been in for him, especially as he is a free signing.

Negativity over Rodgers signings is starting to look a bit out of date. Players take time to settle, but already I like the look of Markovic, Can and Moreno, Lallana is a very good footballer and Sakho is starting to look the part. Coutinho is an exceptional talent and we all know how good Sturridge is when fit. There are still some obvious failings, but who is to say Lovren won't improve when we have a proper defensive midfielder now that Gerrard is finallyplaying in the right position. Just my opinion...

    ReplyDelete
  16. You contradicted yourself with your first two sentences. Utd let Pogba go and Chelse let Sturridge go because they did not think they were good enough. But, they are and it did not take them to realize it. But, Suso is a not a sure bet because the big clubs are not in for him.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well done Sid you got me...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think you'll find Rodgers gets a lot of abuse on most LFC forums...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Do similar to us in what is currently a lesser league.

    ReplyDelete
  20. He'd fit in brilliant in to the the 433 or 343 and no i don't have amy confidence in the committee and can't see us going for him now with sterling coutinho Lallana Markovic Moreno all capable of playing out with and IBE on Fire in the championship and he's a more of a goal threat than the majority

    ReplyDelete
  21. No, Suso is not a sure bet because he scored 3 goals in 47 appearances for us and Almeria

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agree with most of it barring the markovic one I think he's poor no end product no real skill he's fast but not super fast and my sister has more fight and agression than him.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Take a close look at his time on loan at Almeria. JK says there is no evidence for poor attitude, but being fined for missing training by staying in bed is a poor start
47 appearances, 3 goals 5 assists ? No wonder those stats were left out that is a goal/assist every 6 games...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sturridge has no ambition?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I've not said anything about his attitude and hahaha didn't no they were the stats but disappointing but I still think he's a talent in the number 10 role

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sell dead wood
    sell Mignolet,Lovren,Toure,Johnson,Manquillo,Enrique,Allen,Markovic,Alberto,Assaidi,Iloris,Aspas,Balotelli,Lambert,Borini

then we will make some progress

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, he's got a long way to go before he will justify £20m, but he's improving fast, and he's not yet being played in his position. I wonder if he might have more end product at right wingback?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Unless our club is bought by a sheikh from abu dhabi or qatar and fund our team with petro-dollars we'll never win the epl

    ReplyDelete
  29. Never say never. We were ridiculously close last year and don't forget Istanbul wasn't that long ago😄

    ReplyDelete
  30. As much as I believe Rodgers has gotten a lot wrong this season, and as much as I would have liked to see Suso at least get a chance, the truth is that we don't see him day in and day out. A lot of our frustration doesn't lie in the belief that he'd be a superstar. The frustration lies in the fact that he never even got a chance and there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut reason why.

If Suso goes to Italy and tears it up, then it's an indictment of Rodgers. If Suso gets a chance, and doesn't perform well, then it'll prove Rodgers right.

Either way, it's frustrating that it didn't work out for him here.

    ReplyDelete
  31. FSG as owners are the least of our problems.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I did say JK was the one mentioning attitude but I do think that Suso has had 4 managers and 4 or 5 years to prove his worth and not done - so does he just play when he wants to like Hatem Ben Arfa or does he not put it in in training? We don't know, but it must be something- those blaming BR should remember that 3 other managers didn't play him either.
That said BR really is on thin ice for me. Improve by the end of the season or be replaced..

    ReplyDelete
  33. And those 3 always play do they!?!? What about when Lallana is injured or being rotated, sterling playing up front or one if Courtinos bad days....so we only need 3 creative midfielders in our squad do we? 4 if you include Markovic. IMO we will regret losing him especially on a free

    ReplyDelete
  34. They also had suitable replacements at the time. Unfortunately, what increases our frustration is the fact that the team simply hasn't been very good this year and we'd like to see something different done (including giving some players a chance)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Don't cry apparently Benzema has his heart set on Anfield (Daily Star)

    ReplyDelete
  36. He cost £16 million

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's my point exactly. Hodgson and Dalglish gave him a few more chances, but his stats don't look good, and his regular games at Almeria didn't yield much in tangible results

    ReplyDelete
  38. We should have signed him already. There does seem to be some evidence of not overpaying. Wish they had thought about it last window

    ReplyDelete
  39. He'll end up at Chelski then.

Sorry; I'm still smarting from the Willian and Salah debacles.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Our youth policy is bringing in the gold.... Good work FSG, good work Brendan... You can be proud of yourselves once again.

    ReplyDelete
  41. the guy said via his agent that he is too good for a club like LFC. and he is one of the best CFs in the game right now.. why the f*ck would he have his heart set on us ?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Never mind next up is Martinez

  43. Don't shoot the messenger

  45. Hahhahhahhahhhahhahhahahahahahahahahha! ha!
    Hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Then start with Daily Star

    ReplyDelete
  47. Didn't he say last season that Liverpool was beneath him? Either Benzema's forgotten to take his lithium this week, or those usually dependable, worthy news establishments The Express, Star and The Mirror are guilty of some bullshit reporting. Hmmm........

    ReplyDelete
  48. What makes you say that when he plays he score makes assist Markovic doesnt we tried to by shaqiri in the summer but bayern wouldn't sell

    ReplyDelete
  49. try commenting after the acid trip wears off..

    ReplyDelete
  50. Maybe he needs a valve replacement didn't they do Houlliers in a Liverpool hospital

    ReplyDelete
  51. Captains need to lead by example, Hendo is an example worth following...

    ReplyDelete
  52. What!?!
Hendo is a solid hard working player, who gives it his all, not sure who else can claim as much...at the club.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I hope your right I don't want the lad to fail i just don' see it maybe he'd be better down the right or the middle behind the forward but I quite like how we were playing with coutinho and Lallana there

    ReplyDelete
  54. He must have lost his voice since moving from Southampton then.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Can't see where you've got that notion from

    ReplyDelete
  56. He led the team very well against Swansea so it's there for him if he takes the opportunity

    ReplyDelete
  57. Cos u said we already have Markovic Moreno Lallana capable of playing there- my point is that he's better than Lallana

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think we should keep Toure, Manquillo, and Markovic, but sell the rest of the list (by the way, Ilori with no 's')

Toure has proven time and time again that he is a capable backup and leader at the back. He probably shouldn't start too many games, but when injuries hit and bad form comes around, he's a valuable asset.

Manquillo is miles better than Johnson. Personally, I think we should have 4 FBs, 1 attack minded and one defense, for each side. For the Left we have Flanno and Moreno. On the right, we could have Manquillo, and .... a signing.

Marko has shown some promise. I won't try to argue simply because he divides opinion like no other and anything I say probably won't make a difference. However, if it can be GUARANTEED that we get someone better, I won't shed any tears.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh good, so we can miss out on two top strikers this January.

Got any great goalies to go with that? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yea Perrin in talks with Porto

    ReplyDelete
  61. The difference with Chelsea brought in top class quality : Fabregas(27) and Matic(26) to replace Lampard (34) and even Ramires(28) can not game in side now.

Where B Rodgers is a joker, Like most fans on here we all know S Gerrard(34) has been passenger in side for last two seasons due to not having the energy, legs, mobility , pace and speed he had 6- 7 years ago.

And teams nulify his class and quality by giving him no time and space on the ball or he would still cause teams problems.

Where J Allen(24) and J Henderson(24) have the energy, the legs, the mobility and a bit of pace to them but even S Gerrard(34) on his last legs is three times better than those two now.

Let alone when he was at his peak and that is the problem, FSG , I Ayre and B Rodgers during last two seasons have cleared a world class spine ( Reina(31) GK, CB D Agger(30), L Suarez(27) FD) and have replaced them with average hard working Young footballers with potential.

If the club had A Fabregas(27) and Matic(27) playing for us and club was doing well, no one would say anything about S Gerrard(34) leaving.

The problem is even though he does not have the energy, legs, mobility, pace or speed anymore to boss, dictate, dominate, run away from players, bomb into the box here and there . He is still the only CM at club who creates things and score goals when we need them.

And J Henderson(24) is loyal, he is good at pressing and has been at club a while but the brutal truth is he is an average footballer.

And B Rodgers needs to bring in these two CM's to replace S Gerrard(34) for next 5-8 years:
Both would cost up to £60M
One is Top Class the other is World Class:

One should be brought in this Transfer window:

    M Veratti(22) Of PSG for £17-£25M CM
    (Italian International)

And T Alcantar(23) Of Bayern Munich should be brought to club for £25-£35M ( Spanish International)

    These two midfielders

    ReplyDelete
  62. Haha! Oh dear. And Valdes signing for the sc.um. You can't make this stuff up. Thanks for the chuckle :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Just goes to show how poor our squad is, when Hendo is the best option for captain. Rodgers has seen off our best players and replaced them with shit, be glad when he's out.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Our squad 5 years ago, (1st team)

    included

    Kyriakos

    Insua

    Degen

    Darby

    Aquilani

    Riera

    Babel

    Spearing

    El Zhar

    Plessis

    Pacheco

    Ecclestone

    Darby

And you REALLY think the current one is worse?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I vote for the Lithium!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Firstly yes I do believe we have gone backwards as 5 years ago we had a good squad that just needed a good manager and a few additions to improve us. Now with Rodgers we have and will be losing quality and have replaced with far inferior players so whoever replaces Rodgers will have to undo his mistakes before taking club forward.
No I don't think Lambert was a direct replacement for Suarez. The point I was trying to make was we spread the money we got for Suarez too thinly and should have got at least one world class player to replace the world class player leaving. The likes of Lambert were a terrible mistake IMO.
Regarding Suso our opinions obviously differ. Personally I am very sad to see him leave. The fact that we have let him go for free is simple bad management/ownership. Regarding the statistic you obviously love to use to back up your arguments...Suso goal ratio statistics are worthless as from when he was younger . I'm sure statistics for Sterling early on in his career would also have been poor. Ronaldo's first season for the scum was woeful statistics...the talent and potential was still obvious for all to see. I stand by my comments that losing Suso on a free will come back to haunt us. IMO!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. On the Sanchez matter I also feel we didn't get the money we claim we did for Suarez are should have been more like Levy is in transfer market...play hardball down to the wire. We should have forced Barcelona's hand by saying you only get Suarez if we get (insert name here) in return as part of the deal.

    ReplyDelete
  68. A lesser league that at every Tournament in Modern Football has consistently been better than England.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yeah not like De Jong would fit nicely into our midfield ....but hey

    ReplyDelete
  70. Surely the fact that it looks like Hendo will be made the next captain dispels the theory he's trying to move on players he didn't sign. There's Johnson, Skrtel and others that also demonstrate this theory to be nonsense. It's also ridiculous to think that a manager in Rodgers position would deliberately not play and try and sell our best players just because he didn't sign them

    ReplyDelete
  71. You think if Real or Barca come calling he won't go ?

    ReplyDelete
  72. The thing is B Rodgers has 12 dead wood players he needs to get off the books during next two transfer windows:

    B Jones(32) GK K Toure(33) CB S Coates(24) CB
    G Johnson(30) RB A Wisdom(21) RB L Leiva(27) DM

    J Allen(24) CM Suso(20) AM L Alberto(21) AM

    O Assaidi(26) RWF F Borini(23) FD R Lambert(32) FD

Yet 6 of the signings he brought to the club.

I think Balotelli(24) playing around top class quality attackers with mobility, pace and speed week in week out will do well for us. So when Sturridge(25), Sterling(19) and Markovic(20) are all fully fit and playing well he will do well with them in attack.

Lovren(25) i think we prove his top class defender once We bring in Top Class Gk who is aggressive commanding Good Distributor of ball and the defence and team have full trust in him and also when we bring in a mobile defensive midfielder to club who will break up play, nulify attacks and protect back four.
When those two positions are sorted and he is played alongside M Sakho as CB pairing , Lovren playing the RCB i think we will see he is top class defender over time.

As if Chelsea did not have Matic(27) i am sure G Cahill(29) and J Terry(36) would look comical at times against any class mobile, pacey quick attacker with skill or work rate. ( As H Kane(21) and N Chadli(25) recently showed everyone Chelsea at back are vulnerable and not perfect at all )

And same could be said about the defenders at Man City, Southampton and West Ham without the likes of Fernando(27) , Fernandinho(29), Schneiderlin(25), Wanyama(23), Kouyate(23) and Song(27) protecting them week in week out they would get exposed and look poor at times.

Moreno(22) is awesome left back, he just needs to work on his main priority of side ( Defending and time his runs instead of galavanting forward every time as the best attackers in league will punish us when he regularly does that and at times just clear and put foot through ball instead of trying to take touches in box or dangerous places)

Markovic(20) may come a top class player in the next 2- 3 years but because we spent £20M on him we all expected , class, creativity and goals from the start. But he will come good in next few years, just shame we paid £10M too much for him

    ReplyDelete
  73. You probably correct but please can you explain what he's actually doing ?
I'm increasingly confused by his choices as are some others on here

    ReplyDelete
  74. And sign Chadli Capouie, Lamela Soldado and co to replace him on the last two days? No thanks

    ReplyDelete
  75. COMICAL ..

Gerrard to Henderson, is analogous to swapping a racehorse for a donkey (or more precisely a crab, since 99% of his passes go sideways).

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah but we have three centre midfielders at club with an abyzmal goals to game ratio and lack of class, creativity in the final third. ( J Allen(24), J Henderson(24) and E Can(20) )

    ReplyDelete
  77. Very smart indeed

    ReplyDelete
  78. No obviously not - you do like to twist others points to fit your argument don't you.
If you read my last reply properly before responding you will clearly see I stated a part exchange deal with player if our choice as part of the deal or no deal.
I was referring to levy holding out to the last moment to get what he wants eg berbatov and Bale. We held all the cards with Suarez and should have bluffed that happy to keep an unhappy player if deal not on our terms. I feel we panicked and caved in too easily to player and Barcelona terms. Obviously we couldn't force Sanchez to come to us but if Barcelona felt would only get Suarez if we got Sanchez then I'm sure they would have out pressure on him, if that didn't work then could of offered us another world class player as part of the deal (they have plenty) from my understanding of both English and Spanish media we did deal for Suarez then after done deal we asked about some of their players...to give away bargening advantage like that is simply embarrassing and p**s poor negotiating.

    ReplyDelete
  79. You say not bidding for Xabi as if that was the reason we didn't get him. And yes, it was a direct quote re not wanting to spoil his memory of his time at LFC, not my impression of his motivations.

And we have tried repeatedly to get quality players. Costa. Willian. Mhkitaryan. Sanchez. Reus.
Our present status isn't high enough to get those types of players, and we don't have petrodollars to pay well over the odds like City or Chelsea or 85000 a week like Utd

Thanks for the lesson on the optimal use of sarcasm. I'll try to use my limited intellect to take your comments into consideration next time.

You don't wish for rudeness or ridicule. It is all right however, to call our current manager a 'baffoon'. No rudeness or ridicule there...

    ReplyDelete
  80. i tend to just criticise regardless of the situation

    ReplyDelete
  81. Saying that I wouldn't be surprised if Lamela comes good in the end. Taking a long time to get used to premiership football but no doubt a huge talent. The others you mentioned....Christ no!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Decent point.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I agree with Ash's post regarding Suso; fans like us are frustrated because we never saw enough of him to know whether he was the goods or not. Lets pray that Rossiter, Ibe, Rexeira and Ojo get better treatment........
Bad news on signing a good goalie: Valdez is signing with Manc U so that's yet another big name we won't be seeing at LFC. Still confused why Manchester, which is a dumpy city, gets big names players and yet Liverpool, (same climate and city size) can't sign big names. I don't believe its the City at all. It might have been correct in Sanchez's case but the rest points to weakness in the front office from a skill or credibility point of view IMO. UUUGGGHHHHH!

    ReplyDelete
  84. lovren your kidding hes mr panic stations

    ReplyDelete
  85. that's nearly 100% of our team.........

    ReplyDelete
  86. hendo will do well ..he will do better when gerrad leaves because he plays better when hes main man ...is he captain material...im not sure because i think he worries about his own game to much and it may affect it.....i always like the cb to be captain because they can see the whole pitch and are generally the most stable in the team, the problem we have is all ours are crap

    ReplyDelete
  87. that as well as his ability

    ReplyDelete
  88. Firstly nobody actually heard those remarks directly from Alonso just written press and reports differ as we all know most is made up. Secondly I said we should have at least tried. He had stated no offers from English clubs (again written media so make if it what you wish)
I completely agree our standing in world football has dropped and even though tried to sign big names they were not interested...that's why I'm saying we wasted position we were in with Suarez.
Regarding my comments about ridiculing, being rude or sarcastic. I was referring to others on this site who express views you don't agree with. Both you are Jay for example disagree with me about Suso being a loss. Have I said you are idiot for thinking that? No it's a view I respect and feel supporters will be split on the subject. I think most will agree letting him go for free was simply bad business .

    ReplyDelete
  89. He'll do well if he doesn't have to be the creator...

    ReplyDelete
  90. i like hendo and have backed him for several seasons even when other have not....and rodgers was gonna swap him for yankee doodle dandy

    ReplyDelete
  91. the only side skital should captain is the world shirt pulling team

    ReplyDelete
  92. Goalie and DM are jobs 1a and 1b with striker 1c. We need 3 quality guys this window and sell 3-5 players to not crater whatever chemistry we have. Allen, Jones, Coates, Alberto, Suso and perhaps Johnson if Flanno is ready to return. It all hinges on getting 3 top quality guys not more young, unproven middling guys.

    ReplyDelete
  93. No you have me wrong. I believe it's the other way around. I don't believe we received as much as we claim we did for Suarez. We haven't as a club officially confirmed transfer amount received. What I base that on is claims made by Barcelona that they got Suarez a lot cheaper than British media are making out they paid. IMO if that was a lie then why didn't LFC come out and say so!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  94. If given the armband he could nail down his favoured central role (stevie's position)

"What does the V stand for?"
    "Dunno. His surname or sumfin..."

  96. My point simply is we had a fantastic player in Suarez and due to the reasons you have given for why we don't get the top top players anymore, we should have been more like Levy and hard balled Batcelona into ensuring we got a world class player that we wanted in return for losing world class player.

  97. The reason why ManU gets players is Money. Pure and simple.

They can afford more because of their bigger stadium revenues, particularly as a result of ticket sales.

  98. Thats easier said than done ....im not sure top level players can be forced into going anywhere .....look at us with borini and hes far from top, players hold all the aces and a club with liverpool's recent history of Cl football has a hand full of jokers

  102. That's a good point (I assume though that Boroni is just an example of player not being forced and not world class player)
My point is we should have tried...it may have worked it may not have but if for example Barcelona told Sanchez go to LFC or be a bench warmer. We won't allow you to go to other team in England. Maybe they could have offered him part wages...if not him someone else from Barcelona squad...my point is this was a perfect opportunity to ensure he only went if replacement also world class. If Barcelona believed they would only get Suarez if they gave us a world class player in return. My thoughts are that they would have made it happen

  108. We also had Agger skirttl Hyppia and no doubt even more you have failed to mention in your selective list....that being said I agree a load of tosh in squad so maybe 5 years back should be amended. My point wasn't exactly about a period in time though. It was saying Rodgers dismantling of squad and arrival of poor replacements like Boroni, Lambert etc is going to put Rodgers replacements rebuilding back in time. As will first have to get us back to level we had with Reina, Agger, Gerrard and Suarez (I will leave young talent like Suso out as clearly we disagree on that) then the new manager will have to take us up to the next level required to start winning league and attracting world class players again. If Rodgers had replaced these players with equal quality then we would only need a few new quality signings to get back on top. People like me wouldn't be talking about Rodgers replacement either!!! Can you really say we haven't moved backwards recently?

  112. People keep saying he never got a chance but in the 12/13 season he played over 20 games and flashed talent but never really contributed, on loan at Almeria he started like a house on fire then struggled to get a start as the season went on. He's a talented player but has not proven to be a good one (as of yet)

  115. In champions League because surely that's the only one that is relevant. Italy may do better than England but that has got nothing to do with anything. Has Ballotelli made us better?

    ReplyDelete
  116. Yes Sterling only had flashes but must have been showing the work rate we see. Can we say the same of Suso? Does he get stuck in? When he gets clattered does he get back up.for more? Not from my memory. That is why Sterling is a success and perhaps Suso hasn't been. In a less physical league he may do.well.but we will have to.what and see. As him.going for nothing tje lad let his contract run down. He has been offered deals. Not sure what more the club can do.

  117. Hyypia had left matey. Skrtyl is still there, as is Johnson, Lucas and Gerrard ( for now) so why would I include them?

It's not selective. The only missing players now is Maxi Ayala and Aurelio. That's it. the FULL 1st team squad. Maxi was the 6th elite player I said we had. Ayala was average at the time and Aurelio good but always injured. Reina had several poorish seasons after then too

SO: we never replaced Masch of Xabi. Some are retired or still with us. The squad is stronger in most positions vs 5 years ago across the whole group. Did having Masch Xabi and Agger mean a better league placing?

    Actually, No.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Bless your soul, Sire.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Yes, and I named them. The point was about the squad overall. I think we have failed to replace Xabi and Masch the most glaringly. The others are up for debate, but I would say few of the old squad 3 or 4 say were better of the backup players

  120. A shame we've handled him so poorly. A talented player who should have been given minutes. Allowing the likes of Aspas and Moses to feature ahead of him is poor, in my opinion.

One thing I'd say in defence of those who criticise his attitude is that there were fairly well sourced allegations of misconduct when he was at Almeria. I've not strong opinion one way or the other myself, but there is certainly smoke. Up to others to decide for themselves if that equals fire.

I'd also dispute that Rodgers will get sacked for this kind of mismanagement of funds and assets, because if he wins games, the board won't care much for what he does. He just has to get enough right to survive. I don't think these smaller deals will have that kind of effect. Whilst they can cause a cumulative damage, you only need to get one Sturridge or Suarez to take your team up a level. I think it is those bigger deals that will determine Brendan's success on the pitch and determine his stock at boardroom level.

  122. I am not sure if Suso was good enough or not but BRs reputation of giving the younger players a chance to prove themselves is shot in my eyes.
He has built this reputation on 1 exceptional young talent Sterling and i wouldn't expect too many if any out of the academy to progress under him.

    ReplyDelete
  123. And what did Barca say about Neymars price, and were proven to be lying.

    ReplyDelete
  124. There is also no evidence that Suso was ever good enough for Liverpool. Fans are frustrated because we never really got the chance to see him play regularly in a Liverpool shirt but he had an entire season in La Liga and has been training with the Liverpool first team for a number of years now. He's had chances to start games, he's a had a few short runs and frankly he's never really shown his quality. If Suso is such a great player I'd expect to see a more compelling argument but the best anyone can do is "he should have been given a chance". No comments on his technical ability, his excellent stats from La Liga, what obvious qualities he would bring to the team. To me it's quite simply that Suso has been over-hyped since he was a teenager and the excitement has never translated into actual performances. So fans have had this unrealistic expectation that he'll turn into a quality player and are now disappointed that he hasn't. He might still come good but right now Liverpool have nothing to offer him so he's decided to leave.

There is no incompetence here. Suso was sent on loan to see if he would develop as a player with regular minutes. He did, but not enough to warrant a regular place in the Liverpool side. Alberto was brought in as another potential of similar quality, again with the same hope that he would improve. He fell well short in his time at Liverpool but still has the rest of this season to grow and perhaps warrant a spot in the squad next year. In both cases the players are only at Liverpool because of their potential. Neither of them were ever going to make an actual contribution. If we hadn't signed Alberto and instead kept Suso it would have made no difference to the team. Liverpool would have played no better and Suso would have spent most of the season on the bench, just like Alberto did. The misconception here is that either player is in the Liverpool squad as an expected starter or a player who will play regular minutes. Both need to improve significantly before that will happen. So while I also question the notion of spending so much money on a player with nothing more than potential the suggestion of transfer incompetence of the highest order is just over the top hyperbole.

The difference between Sterling and Suso is obvious. Sterling was given a chance and he took it. He played exceptionally well in those early games and there was an immediate level of excitement about his performances. From the very first time he started in a Liverpool shirt we were all impressed with his talent and he deserved his spot in the side. So at no point was Sterling simply given a run of games to see how it would turn out. He was given a single chance and he impressed, he played well. From that point on he has deserved his place in the side. The same can't be said of Suso. He's played OK in a couple of games but that's all. At no point has he really stood out as a top quality player. So he's never deserved that continued playing time.

Come back to your standard question for a transfer in or out ... will Liverpool miss Suso, will his departure have a definitive impact on the team? Absolutely not.
