Photo Proof: 'Wonderful' LFC starlet trains with Gerrard et al. Fowler claims he's the 'next Stevie G'

In September, Liverpool starlet Jordan Rossiter scored on his competitive debut for the club, prompting Reds boss Brendan Rodgers - in typical hyperbolic fashion - to describe his performance as 'wonderful'. Well, Rossiter has not been seen in the first team squad since making the bench for October's Carling Cup victory over Swansea, but it looks like the promising midfielder may be in contention for a place in Liverpool's Premier League squad this weekend.

As the following picture shows, 17-year old Rossiter trained with the first-team squad today (along with Sheyi Ojo and Jordan Williams), which suggest that he could be in line for a place on the bench against Sunderland on Saturday:

Rossiter is very highly rated at Anfield, and a whole host of current and ex-Reds have praised the youngster's talent. When asked last season who is the 'brightest prospect at LFC's Academy', John Aldridge told the official LFC site:

"I like [Jordan] Rossiter. When he was 15 he was playing for the U18s, which is a tremendous accolade for the lad. He’s a great talent"

Jamie Carragher is also a fan:

"I like the look of him [Rossiter]. He's got a bit of character and steel that me and Stevie have had. He's not shy, will put himself about and clearly is a good footballer".

Kolo Toure is also impressed by Rossiter, and after his debut goal, he raved:

“Jordan Rossiter is a great player. I really like this boy. He scored a great goal and showed the strength of Liverpool Football Club. Every day when he comes to training he gives 100%. When you play with young players like that you enjoy it."

With Steven Gerrard leaving at the end of the season, the stage is set for someone from the youth system to step-up, and Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler believes the youngster has the potential to develop into the club's new talisman. He recently tweeted:

"A young lad is just about to come on for a few mins for Liverpool in [the] Nextgen - Jordan Rossiter. Big shout, but potentially a young Stevie G. He's a very good player"

The hype machine just keeps on rolling. Rossiter is 17, and he's already being hailed like he's some kind of footballing legend. Keep this up, and it won't be long before he's pulling a Sterling, and demanding £100K a week just to stay at Anfield.

Is upcoming seasons, is Rossiter capable of stepping-up and partially filling the Steven Gerrard void?

  6. Ok, I'll bite...

At this juncture in the season, what is there to be positive about other than the fact that we are miraculously somehow still on the edge of a fourth place finish?

Note: Capital Cup semis vs. Chelsea is not a valid positive answer.

  7. lets hope so, if he is good enough he will make it like sterling who must be a great inspiration for the rest of the youth players to see him playing such a major role at an early age in his career.

  8. I agree but this article is about young Rossiter is this not a postive thing

    ReplyDelete
  9. Honestly, at this point, I can't even tell if you think this is positive or negative.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Say something "postie"? Okay...

"You want this package in the big slot or the little one?"

    ReplyDelete
  11. There's enough hype about him posted by the numerous player quotes referenced. Jamie is right to question the fawning. Why pile even more pressure on such young shoulders, and if not pressure then hype?

    ReplyDelete
  12. What's interesting is that the fans bought into the hype of Suso even though he barely got a sniff here.

So here we have fans (in general, not directed at anyone in particular) complaining about the overhyping of players, but when an overhyped player leaves without proving the hype, fans get upset.

  13. Rossiter replies "no, but you look like an ar5e"

    ReplyDelete
  14. It was all a misunderstanding.

    Rodgers asked, "He any good?"

    Pascoe questioningly replied, "Suso?"

Rodgers heard it as "So-so" and promptly wrote him out of the glorious history fans had already chronicled in blood and spit.

  15. He looks like a young Gerrard
    in appearance
Maybe but his passing and shooting aint no where that level , but better defensively and tactically then Gerrard at that age

  16. The tone of this article is just so unneccessarily negative in my opinion. Obviously, expressing your view is your pregotative Jaimie but I don't see what the problem is. Is it not in the realms of possibility that praising the youngster will actually act as a confidence booster and have a positive effect!? I don't understand why praise, even if it's to the extreme or is premature, always has to be a negative thing, as a necessity?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Extreme praise is a negative. It can raise expectations unnecessarily among fans, convince players they've made it way too early (leading to destructive slacking off).

Here are examples of players who've wilted under such praise:

    Freddy Adu
    Jermaine Pennant
    Anthony Le Tallec
    Florent Sinama-Pongolle
    Ravel Morrison
    ...

There are many more but you get the idea.

  20. Off topic but has any read what Lacazette has said about moving abroad? Long shot for us but we should put a bid in for him now

    ReplyDelete
  21. Danny Murphy was saying on the radio today that Le Tallec had a massive ego when he first came to the club, classic "thought he'd made it"

  22. Suso is a good player we need he now

  23. I dunno about Rossiter. Sometimes I watch him and he just seems like an indifferent player -- heavy touch, not much elegance on the ball, doesn't seem to have obvious technical quality. But then he has a habit of proving me wrong, making the telling contribution to a game: the pass, the goal, the run, that gets his team a goal. He's a hard one to read, just like Gerrard was. I couldn't figure him out at first. Was he just lucky, that lanky kid who ran about like a maniac, who tackled with inept enthusiasm, seemed just to barge past people, and smack the ball with nothing like technique... But as he kept on getting it right, game after game, it became obvious that he wasn't lucky -- he was different class. I'm not persuaded that Rossiter is in that category yet.

Sheyi Ojo though -- that kid is one of the best youngsters I've ever seen, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Seems to tilt more towards the critical than the realism, but that's just my opinion.

  32. The Transfer Committee at Liverpool needs to be dismissed/sacked along with I Ayre(52):

We do not want an ageing Vidic(34) at our club, we do not need to bring any defenders in this transfer window.

We need a GK, A Mobile DM, A Top class CM and two descent Forwards

We don't want any has beens thank you: Defoe(31) Or Vidic(34) at All

GK: If Reports are correct, if we can get Barcelona to Loan us or sell us Marc- Ander ter Stegen(22) then that would be great signing.

Otherwise the only other GK we should go all out for is A Begovic(27) Of Stoke for £10-£14M

Earlier today our ex player D Murphy(37) mentioned that our club should replace S Gerrard(34) With these two top class midfielders :

    DM: M Schneiderlin(25) Of Southampton
    CM: M Sissoko(25) Of Newcastle

Before S Gerrard(34) announced his retirement i was saying on this website B Rodgers should bring those two midfielders to the club in January as they are both two top class midfielders who know the premiership inside out and both would walk straight into our first 11 ahead of L Leiva(27) and J Henderson(24)

Both players are of champions league class and quality. Both players have been stood out consistantly for last two seasons.

But i think B Rodgers should offer Southampton £16-£21M for M Schneiderlin(25) and the same to Bayer Leverkusen for L Bender(25) and sort out the Mobile DM position

And then B Rodgers should offer PSG £17-£24M for M Veratti(22) and sign him this transfer window. As Roma's M Pranjic(24) is a good midfield player, but Veratti(22) is a top class box to box midfielder and will become an italian regular in the next two years.

  33. Can't blame Brendan his hands were tied. He don't control the funds

    ReplyDelete
  34. What about Kovacic lets get Inter for taking Shaqiri.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The truth be told, unless FSG sell Liverpool to a filthy rich buyer and draw big players in with cash, then things are not going to get better any time soon in the near future.Money talks bullshit walks, the days of luring top players to Liverpool because they're Liverpool are gone.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Kovacic(20) is a top player but he is an AM. And i doubt he is better than Coutinho(22) or A Lallana(26) so i think the AM position we have sorted.

We are shocking in DM: Priority 2

We have three average Centre Midfielders at club( Allen(24),Can(20) and Henderson(20) who all do similar things ) So that is why i think M Veratti(22) would be top signing for us.
And he would offer us that class, quality also within the attacking final third and get us some goals from centre of park. The key things J Allen(24),E Can(20) and J Henderson(24) do not offer club whilst playing in the centre of park.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Here are some players who were praised to the skies from their mid-teens onwards:

    Lionel Messi
    Cristiano Ronaldo
    Wayne Rooney
    Arjen Robben
    Eden Hazard
    ...

What counts is the quality of the player, not what people say about them. Freddy Adu and Ravel Morrison didn't blow their careers because people hyped them. They blew their careers because they weren't up to it. They'd still not have been up to it if they'd had nothing but harsh criticism in public since they started out.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Kovacic can play wide left C.M D.M A.M also but his preferred posItion is D.M that versatility is what we are crying out for.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I can't see Liverpool brining in any defenders this window or even in the summer unless Toure leaves. This is just paper talk, it starts when journos sit around in their underpants, drinking beers and spit-balling stupid transfer ideas with their mates. Vidic will never play for Liverpool, the idea is absurd. Wisdom has been good on loan this season so if Liverpool need another defender in the near future their it's either him or Ilori. Even Coates is a more viable option than Vidic. The club has enough defenders.

The Lucas situation is really interesting. I think he has a lot to offer Liverpool but ultimately the idea is that we have a better player in his role. It's hard for him because he's really only playing at the moment because other players in the team haven't stepped up. I think when everyone is on form then Can and Allen will get into the team ahead of Lucas so at any time he can revert back to being third choice and no player wants that. I can certainly understand why he would look at other clubs. It would be good for the club to keep him around, he's a very useful player and he's done well recently. At the top of his game he's unquestionably a good footballer. He doesn't quite have the precise skill set that Rodgers wants.

    ReplyDelete
  40. This is no more of a signing than QPR and Ferdinand. Sorry to say but he's lost his touch and he's old now, and nowhere near world class. I don't even see a place for him in our squad. We can't continue to sign mediocre players, even if it's 3m. The fact of the matter is, we can sign as many subpar players as we want, but we will be nowhere near cup challengers. I mean, if it's a spot in the championship you want, by all means take it.

I'm not even mad about the fact that it would involve Lucas leaving. It's just a straight up stupid decision. We need world class signings. That's that. I haven't seen any of the top teams in the world not sign someone of significance during any given transfer window. Except for Liverpool. That's why I don't even consider ourselves world class anymore, maybe Everton or Swansea caliber, but really, nothing more.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I can't understand what you think someone like Sissoko would bring to Liverpool. He doesn't have the quick passing game required to move the ball forward. He's a rough and ready type who uses his physicality to get through traffic. He's a good dribbler but Liverpool want that quality in their forwards like Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling. Sissoko has more of the qualities that Stevie G used to have in that he bombs forward and can be on the end of a scoring move. Rodgers wants midfielders who control the game with quick passing, their job is to get the ball forward to the players who will do the real work. Sissoko is a good player, no doubt, but he's not really suited to Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I didn't have my head in the sand like you, rodgers got luck last year everyone knows it. People like you need to wake up. His first to signings said it all ffs joe allan and fabio borini world beaters aren't the.

    ReplyDelete
  43. YES!!!!..I agree. Get rid of Lucas now. In fact, should have got rid of him much earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You can also add Daniel Sturridge.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's wrong. 'Extreme praise' is merely just a trigger which can manifest a player's pre-existing underlying flaw in attitude; all of those players had an overly-nonchalant attitude. All the praise really did was expose it. Look at Morrison for example, the guy has a reputation for being a thug, so are you going to blame that on a few development coaches and football personalities who said he'd be a great player?

    ReplyDelete
  46. So just pointlessly trying to end a positive article on a downer is 'critical realism'? I generally appreciate what JK does, but having a fit about a few words of encouragement from LFC affiliates is not critical realism.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't get the bitching about what the 3 LFC people said. They said he's relatively a great player with great potential. If you think that's a proclamation of a football legend, then you're clearly interpreting it the wrong way.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I feel like Sissoko would be awesome if he just played as a DM, he has all the qualities that would make him great there, strength, pace, distribution and tackling, and I feel like he would press far more than our current DMs do. When we signed Lucas he was an attacking mid, Gerrard always played further forward before becoming what the media disgustingly call a 'quarterback'. He wouldnt really fit as an attacking mid at LFC, methinks.
Oh and twistadee, I find it hilarious that you put 'I Ayre (52)'. Sticking with the age thing, even with staff, I feel it's definitely more relevant with the players :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Haha my pic won't change until Stevie retires. I put this one up after my old favourite player retired, but as soon as Stevie hangs up his boots, his shirt will be up there. In terms of who will leave first, I'm not sure. I think he is doing a damn good job, being 1 point behind an amazing Madrid team, having had a big bunch of transfers, and being given a side where the core players that brought the success of the past 8 years are aging or just not in the form they were in. It's an unforgiving job unfortunately, but he doesnt do his best to keep the media and fans onside. I truly beleive that alot of the things you read about Messi v Lucho are made up or at least exaggerated and things are probably nowhere near as bad as the papers say, but we'll see. I predict that nothing will happen yet, the club wouldnt allow Messi to go, due to their transfer ban, and Lucho will want to stay for the long haul and try to do a Pep. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out though...

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with most of your argument. Good points and made well. Bravo.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Rossiter! What the hell are we waiting for? How about a start? Ditto for Ojo and Williams. Call back Ibe too! If all we can get is our own kids, let's raise some money by nuking Allen, Johnson, Assaidi, Jones, Enrique, Coates, Balo, Lambert and Borini. Then save the cash for Schneiderlin or bring back Suarez since he may be on the outs at Barca or Benzema with the money money.......

    ReplyDelete
  52. Well said mate I agree with that. I have to say I haven't enjoyed the football LFC been playing as much as I have in the few recent seasons under BR. In addition to the progress that you highlighted I have seen the youth get an opportunity which has been refreshing.

  53. I have to say the changing of weather has nothing on this guy.

  54. Watch the replay, we've all seen Rodgers straight arms to the sky happiness when we score, look at him ffs, maybe you should put your eyes in, theres a differentce between being a body language expert and seeing nothing at all ...
