Confirmed: BR held transfer talks this week re 'fantastic' £5m striker. 84% of fans want him gone

Crystal Palace are currently linked with a January move for Liverpool star Rickie Lambert, and new boss Alan Pardew has now confirmed that the Eagles are definitely interesting in signing the struggling striker.

According to The Guardian this week:

"Rickie Lambert [is] a transfer target for Crystal Palace.

"Alan Pardew has inquired about the availability of Lambert"

When asked this week about his alleged interest in Lambert, Pardew confirmed that he is 'monitoring' Lambert, adding:

"I did have a conversation with Brendan [Rodgers], but I don't think Rickie is going anywhere. He wants to stay try and win his position, and I have no doubt he can do that."

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are also not interested in selling:

"Brendan Rodgers has no intention of selling Lambert. The signing was always viewed as a Plan B and Rodgers wants to ensure they have that between now and the end of the campaign".

Lambert's wish to stay and fight for his place is admirable, but that ship has arguably already sailed. With Balotelli and Borini misfiring, Sturridge out injured, Lambert had a golden opportunity to make himself the go-to striker at Anfield, but he singularly failed to do that.

Sturridge will soon return; Sterling has superseded him as the club's main striker (for now), and the Reds are sure to sign a new top-class goalscorer sooner rather than later. As such, Lambert may not get another sustained opportunity to prove he's the man for the job.

One thing's for sure - Liverpool fans won't shed any tears if £5m-rated Lambert leaves. Last week, I conducted a poll on the site asking fans whether Liverpool should sell the striker:

* 10950 (approx) people participated in the poll (which is still onging)
* A whopping 84% of participants votes for Liverpool to dump Lambert.

That's a stunning vote of no-confidence in Lambert, and from here on in, the best he can hope for is the odd appearance in cup competitions, or perennial sub-duty.

Lambert's desire to stay is understandable, though, and I don't begrudge his refusal to countenance leaving. Liverpool is a dream come true, and in the same position, I'd fight tooth and nail to stay at Anfield, too, even if it meant warming the bench.

  1. Heart says keep him, he is a massive Liverpool Fan and its the club of his dreams.
Head says sell as too slow and immobile.

I dare say we will wait until Origi comes back and then offload Lambert.

  2. I feel a bit sorry for Lambert because just like Balotelli he's not a lone striker. Last season we played two up top in most games but this season BR to my knowledge has only played it once or twice. One of them being our best performance away at Spurs. What am im trying to say is if played in the right system Lambert and Balotelli could be effective. It would be a shame if Lambert was sold after half a season.

  3. Lambert play as a lone striker for almost all matches for Soton last season. Lambert is shit player for LFC. Full stop

  4. Totally agree with you we should never have signed ricky labmbert. It was our first season back in champions league for few years thats not the quality of player, that we should've been signing with the money we had available. No disrespect to lambert but he was never going to fit in the system we play. Really don't know what that clown rodgers was thinking. I do feel for ricky lambert and i hope he gets a move away in january's transfer window cause he deserves better than sitting on bench week in week out. Good luck ricky lambert. YNWA.

  6. He's 33 in a few weeks - will only get slower. Rodgers should let him go and allow him to play out his last 2 Seasons or whatever

  7. B Rodgers needs to ship out R Lambert(32) and F Borini(23) this month.

Hopefully crystal palace take Lambert(32) for £3-£5M
and Sunderland or QPR offer £8-£12M for F Borini(23)

    And then B Rodgers should replace R Lambert(32) with C Benteke(24) Of A Villa for £15-£18M Upgrade on R Lambert(32)

    B Rodgers should also replace F Borini(23) with L Vietto(21) Of Villareal for £10-£13M

B Rodgers needs to upgrade not down grade like he has in past:

    S Mignolet(26) is down grade of P Reina(31)
D Lovren(25) is not better than D Agger(30) now he may be in couple of years time, but D Agger(30) is currently better defender and player than D Lovren(25)

  9. What is the differents of sending Aspas away and buying Riki, in my view better Aspas, He could have perform better this time

  10. I read that Shaqiri said the same, he felt that Inter Milan wanted him more

  11. I bet he wasn't ever offered any kind of deal by Liverpool, it just serves the media to make out LFC have failed once again to nail down a target...And more so, they are so unattractive as a club, the player would prefer being a sub rather than a starter at LFC...There's interest in that story.

There's a rumour now he's on his way to West Brom. Apparently part of a bargaining tool so we can get Berahino....

  13. No. He went there(MU) for money and the rest are just some lame reasons.IMO LFC was right to ask for a trial on a GK who is recovering from a serious injury. If he is good as what Van Gaal thinks he is then why Barca is not doing all they can to keep him?

    ReplyDelete
  14. We bought him in response to losing out on Sanchez! It put the fear factor in all our rivals, and it was a clear message that we would challenge for the title!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Which it clearly has..............

    ReplyDelete
  16. Come on... are we really to believe that Valdes didn't realize that he was going for a trial at Man U simply because Van Gaal didn't use the word "trial"?

The bottom line is the bottom line. I'd be much more likely to believe that he's gone to where he felt more likely to be in the Champions League and more likely to earn higher wages.

  17. If Lambert, Balo and Borini are shipped out we need to get at least two strikers in return. Since Bony is now out, we MUST act to give new guy(s) more time to assimilate and contribute before the season gets further away from us.
I am not familiar with Vietto although he gets mentioned a lot so no comment there. Higuain looks the part but is age an issue? Berahino looks quick but what is he 5ft 6 inches tall? Will he hold up?

We should send limo to bring those Palace people.

  19. if he gets any slower he will be in reverse

  20. you need a plan A before you get to plan B ....Rodgers has had neither for most of this season

  21. dont feel sorry for prem players they are living the dream ...do you think they feel sorry for the fans who spend money they cant afford supporting them ....they dont

  22. im a massive fan can i have 50 grand a week please

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well hopefully Hull or QPR come in for Borini(23) as they need a striker who can score some goals to keep them in the league.

  24. As mentioned above, it's speculative BS like 95% of it all is. Keeps the journos in work.

That this is being even discussed is a sad indictment on the transfer committee and Ian Ayre. I'm thinking more Ian Ayre than anything else because we have been in for some decent players over the last 2 years that we just haven't got across the line. Sanchez, the Ukraine winger, Salah, Willian, and many more. Just one of these would probably have won us the league last year (obviously Sanchez was not an option then)

I can't for the life of me understand how people who are so successful in business have got someone like that in control of the lifeblood of their business in the UK. (Recruitment) Replacing Ian a Ayre with some sharp, savvy, hard nosed replacement will be the best signing we can make right now

  26. Just bring back Ibe and give this boy the chance. The biggest stumbling block we have at this club is Rodgers, with a proper manager at the helm we will attract the very best.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Would terribly unfair. Although I expected more from him against Wimbledon.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Load of bollocks, they'll just have offered him more money, same for Shaqiri and the others who say "it was my dream to play for Chelsea" or "other big clubs were interested but PSG have always been in my heart" or "I felt that Juventus wanted me more". It's just code for "KER-CHING!".

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's not like he had to play on defence or something like that.
Balotelli is a striker and he played as a striker. His main role in the team is to score/assist and create chances, regardless of being a lone striker or in a striking duo. He has failed miserably in that regard and I will judge him on that.
For all those people who say he can only play effectively when playing with another striker - this is a cheap excuse. Even though he prefers being paired with somebody else up front and would probably do a slightly better job then, do you think he would show more effort, more desire on the pitch? Would he stop shooting from 30meters outside the box? Would he suddenly understand what offside is? Sorry but I don't think so.
I'm not complaining about an apple that doesn't taste like a pear. I'm complaining about an apple that tastes like it's rotten.
good players can perform in different formations/tactics as long as they play in THEIR main position. Balotelli IS playing as a striker, yet he failes to deliver. No excuses.
here are some facts for you:
About 15% areal duels win rate. Over 50 shots (about 800 minutes) without a goal.
Do you really think BR and the coaching staff, bought Balotelli only to partner with sturridge? Don't you think they could have expected that Sturridge will be injured at some part this season, given his injury record?
When Sturridge comes back and balotelli starts scoring, I will still maintain my view on balotelli.

  32. If Origi comes back I solemnly swear to throw a bowling ball at BR's head every time he doesn't score a goal. Which will be a lot. 3 goals in 17 games in the french league let alone the BPL. Shows how crap we really are if we depend on a 19 year old to win us a top 4 spot

  33. Vietto will not go for that much. He's equal to if not better than Dybala, and would easily go for +20m

    ReplyDelete
  34. Redmond is worth a £10M punt. It's about his progress graph which is going up steeply, not his total stats over 3 years

    ReplyDelete
  35. He joined Villareal for £4M in the summer, if we offer £10-£12M now they would have doubled or tripled their outlay for him. But we have to move fast as in next three to four years Barcelona and Real Madrid will be after him he continues to shine in La liga

  39. At Cornell University, they have an incredible piece of scientific equipment known as the "tunneling electron microscope." It's so powerful that by firing electrons, you can actually see images of the atom, the infinite decimally minute building block of our universe. If I were using that microscope right now, I still wouldn't be able to locate my interest in what you've just posted.

PS. You're banned. I know who you are, so you can now scurry back to your pathetic twitter feed.

  40. Apparently Swansea are interested in Borini. I watched the Lille vs Nantes game tonight in the hope of seeing Origi and he wasn't even on the subs bench. I didn't know that he was injured. Could we be bringing Origi in with the money from the sale of Assaidi? That would definitely be the end for Borini for me. Lambert does know how to finish, he just needs the opportunity and when it comes, he'll score. Borini is not a natural striker, lots of pace, but no focus. Sell Borini, not Lambert.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Origi will give us pace and control up front. Borini has pace, but no control, Lambert has control but not much pace. Bringing Origi back would allow us to play further up the field. Sturridge coming back too will be massive for the club, more pace and control.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Just read a bit more about the reason why Shaqiri chose Inter Milan. "I felt that Inter did the most to get me". Sound familiar?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Origi's 3 goals are 1 goal better than any of his Lille teamates have in Ligue 1. Even with him not playing much lately. I am sure he will get better opportunities to score at Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  44. 2 goals in how many games? Clearly the characteristics of a true great.

Matter of him is not slow or pace ! His ability can hold up and release 2 winger cut in do their job or he can poach ! But so far BR fail to utilize most of his player in hand that d problem ! For his good i vote to let him go b4 he rotten at bench !

  46. If a player must be his best in any set up then why do we have to scout (to identify set ups in which different players are most productive?). Make SG the lone CDM, he must excel because it is in midfield, make Sktel the Left CB, he must play because its still in defence, Even Suarez did not thrive in the early days just when Torres left, he also needed a quick (quick thinking, quick feet and movement partnert) whom he found in Studge. WHy dont chelsea play Matic in CAM, after all he is a midfielder, why doesnt city play Silva in RDM, after all he is midfielder? There is more to players and optimum performance than the broad and simplistic categorisation of the part of the pitch they play i.e. defence, mid or striker. I bet you are one of the people arguing that Stevie is the league's best CDM, based on last season and he "must play there" because players must adapt. I agree that players must adapt but to say that "adapting" is the basis of our use of them is stretching the imagination. IN that case we must not sell Suso but deploy him in the CDM slot to replace Stevie and Lucas because it is in the midfield. Thats is outright shallow

I assume you have nothing to say about the attitude problem which was the main issue. Balotelli is a player that excels in playing with another striker ahead of him, and now he is being asked to do something different. Suarez had to take quite a few games before he started firing regularly for Liverpool while in the striker role he is used to. Should we not give Balotelli the same chance given that he is not playing in his preferred position now and is working on it in training?

I am actually quite excited for the next game as we actually have a full week to prepare for it.
