60% Price Crash: LFC move closer to signing 'excellent' £30m star for £12m

On Monday, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers seemed to emphatically rule out the possibility of any transfer business this week, but new reports suggest that the Reds may be pursuing a dramatic last-ditch deal for one of the club's long-term targets.

In October, The Mirror claimed that Liverpool were planning a gigantic £30m January offer for Lavezzi and according the the Daily Mail today:

* Liverpool despatched scouts to watch Lavezzi play for PSG on Sunday night.

* PSG are willing to sell for £12m [€15m], but Lavezzi wants Champions League football.

Lavezzi got only nine poxy minutes of pitch time against St. Etienne, so the scouting trip was arguably a waste of time. Lavezzi is clearly an archetypal Brendan Rodgers player, though, and Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella underlined this in June, when he enthused:

"Players like Lavezzi are always very positive, because they keep players happy. They keep a nice atmosphere in the group. And Lavezzi is an excellent player. He never makes negative comments, and he is always supporting the team."

Creative stats for PSG:

* 25 goals/17 assists in 111 appearances,
* Goal every 4.3 games.
* Goal/assist every 2.5 games.

With Sturridge's susceptibility to injury, it's a priority to have another quality forward player who is seemingly impervious to injury, and Lavezzi - nicknamed 'The Beast' by the Argentina media - certainly fits the bill:

* 299 appearances in the last 7 years.
* Averages 40 games a season.
* Missed only 12 games through injury in the last 10 years.

For £12m, Lavezzi is arguably a good player to have in the squad, for the following reasons:

* Huge Champions League experience, which is lacking in LFC's current squad.
* The finished article, and capable of coming in and making an immediate impact.
* Superior option to both Borini, Lambert, and (possibly) Balotelli.
* Will improve the overall quality of the squad.

* Steady, consistent player who rarely gets injured.
* Strong, hard-working, and physical presence on the field. Perfect fit for the Prem.
* Unlikely to moan if he's not in the starting line-up every week.
* Young players like Coutinho, Sterling, and Markovic can learn from his experience.

That said, with only 2 goals in 21 games, Lavezzi is under-performing this season, but that may be due to his constant bit-part status, and subconscious desire to leave for a new challenge.

With Lavezzi allegedly available at a 60% discount (£30m to £12m), is he worth a punt?

  2. their seems a fair bit of interest coming in for sterling, real, Chelsea, and maybe city, if we are genuinely looking at lavezzi to me it means someone is on his way out just hope its not sterling

  3. For some reason Lavezzi is massively overrated among LFC supporters. He runs a lot and has pace but that's about it, not to mention that he's technically limited. He's just a better version of Borini and that's not what we need at the moment. 25 goals in 111 games is not even enough for a midfielder.

  4. Sterling will be going nowhere.

  5. Not sure. Kind of fancy an espresso now though.

  6. 7 mill then yes... Another maxi type I think.

  7. get a similar player byt a bit younger,more like 25ish

  8. 12 million? That is up 4 million for December. Sign Tevez I'd say!

  9. First of all PSG are selling him to us. No good can come from that. N'Gog, Sakho...

  10. Very average goal and assist stats.woulnt like to rely on him if sturridge got injured.think we have enough average players on the bench (Borini Allen Enrique etc) without spending 12m on another bench warmer.

  11. Rodger's loves Chelsea. If they want him he'll give him to them for as little as possible.

  12. What an idiotic comment

  13. Let's rather give Ibe a chance? Really do not see the point of Lavezzi when we are already stocked with attacking players.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Not saying he can play sole striker entire season, but he would argaubly do a better job when needed than Sterling who can go back being winger or number 10.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Didn't fit in there, that is the reason for the stats. Very clynical when played in the right team..

    ReplyDelete
  16. and Lavezzi is not even a striker so another reason to give Ibe a chance to prove himself instead of wasting more money on a player like Lavezzi.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I know he isnt a striker. He is perfect for 442 with Daniel, or on the wing in a 433. Also CAN play as sole striker better than anyone in our team beside Daniel,,,

  18. That concerns me on several levels. Is Doug the postman?

  19. to b fair sakho just turned 24 en i quite like him, but i do hav some doubts bout lavezzi, but for 12mil cant b worse than balo

  20. Harsh on Sakho - he might not always be easy on the eye but he is playing really well for us

  21. He would be a great signing. Will Juve let him go? I read they are interested in Jovetic.

  22. How do the stats for Coutinho, lallana and Sterling compare? I'd like to see hi. At Anfield, but hopefully we can knock the price down a bit...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sakhos class of course we could keep Lovren.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Let's sign him on the condition he only wears his leather gear for home games

    ReplyDelete
  25. No.
If we're buying an attacker he has to be far more prolific

    ReplyDelete
  26. SAME LINE UP LIKE LAS MATCH.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Goals 27 .assists 17 in 111 famed! World class my arse

    ReplyDelete
  28. He would be a good buy. Miles better than Balotelli, Borini and Lambert combined.

    ReplyDelete
  29. He's not an out-and-out striker, hence his stats. Would still do a lot better than what we currently have as strikers.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Shite stats and goal scoring record. If one thing was proved tonight against the chavs it's a player like Higuain with he's goalscoring ability Liverpool needs not another also ran with a 1 goal every 4.5 games we've enough of them in mario Lambert and boronni.

    ReplyDelete
  31. How does lavezzi's stats at 20&21 compare?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why say no....? Ibe, sterling, coutinho, markovic, lallana could be reasons why!?

We need finishers I'm sorry but Sterling is not finisher for me, he has a lot to learn still and he needs to be careful asking for a shit load of money and not being able to finish off. I can not believe that BR has not brought in a striker, even if DS comes back from injury he needs to be under pressure to stay fit and firing, imagine where we could be if we spent money on a quality striker and a keeper, I think Borini, Ballo have had enough time sell them both and bring in a striker, Lacazette, Luciano, Martinez shit I would take Cambell from Arsenal. Something needs to be done, we need goals and again we near the end of the transfer window with nothing but bullshit stories to show.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Perhaps if he didn't just get cameo appearances his stats would look better. To be honest remembering him from the world cup he looks to be a real handful, and works his socks off, which in s pressing team is exactly what you need.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why not he's very overrated and he will want a new contract every time he gets 5 goals in half a season

    ReplyDelete
  36. He's Emile Heskey in defense. Do you remember when Heskey scored a hat-trick against Derby? Amazing wasn't it. Every dog has its day.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sakhos worst game would equate to Lovrens best at Liverpool he is everything Lovren should be but isnt.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We need a proven top class finisher Lavezzi and Ibe dont fit the bill but yes why waste money on Lavezzi when we do have Ibe.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'd rather Lacezette... he's lighting up the top flight in France at the moment and only a matter of time before a bigger club than Liverpool snap him up. We hang around to much too, spend months and months trying to get knock down prices and offerering the players terms that are not anywhere near as good as other clubs - I totally understand of course, we are not made of money and there are FFP rules but even so, I still think we are the worst team when it comes to transfer market dealings. I do think that for a cut down price then Lavezzi would be a great signing, but then again I also thought that about Balotelli who's now only worth a tenner, so as far as Liverpool signings go of late, bar about 4 players, i'm always left feeling let down.

    ReplyDelete
  40. And if Chelsea want Sterling, then Willian will be required to form part of the deal. If Madrid want Sterling, then Benzema will be required to form part of the deal. Neither of which will be easy negotiations. Sterling does favour a move back down south at some point unfortunately, and if Chelsea are seriously considering making a move, then he will find it hard to resist i'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You obviously have never seen Sakho play in his first season. Or this one to be honest. He is being carried by the three man defense. Lovren played in a 4-4-2 with us without a DM in front of him and with full backs who are a nightmare (except for Moreno). Sakho is not without quality. Just none of them are defensive.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Haha. But would you be surprised if Liverpool let him go for less than he's worth? I wouldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Rubbish Eric watch a game instead of reading papers he hardly put a foot wrong in his first season despite missing 12 months almost the season before and injuries which plagued his first season as well as being played out of position.
I think you not only need to watch but understand what is going on.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The man is constantly out of position and is always too late to block a shot. Pesh poor in the air in spite of his height. Slow on the turn and trips on his own legs

    ReplyDelete
  45. His heading is good and it usually finds a team mate he tries to pass forward no fiddling about like the backward sideways brigade.
Yes he looks awkward but his goals attributable to mistakes is low and makes a lot of very spound tackles not sure what you mean Eric.

this is a no brainer.so much experience amd talleny.you hear that Ian?

  47. Another Average player is not what we need a goal every 4.3 games fuck off

    ReplyDelete
  48. I mean exactly what I said. I think we're looking at different players. I agree about him bringing the ball out of defense. On the flipside, Agger did that so I don't see why we had to pay 18 million for something we already had.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Aggers finished thats why his form in Denmark is not great even.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The key here is...he wants champions league football -straight away he will look at PL league table and rule out a move to us.
