Sign Me: 'Formidable' €13m striker confirms he wants LFC transfer & he's 'spoken to the club' about leaving

Liverpool are once again being liked with a move for Sevilla striker Kevin Gameiro, and the striker has confirmed that he's taken steps to push through a move to Anfield.

According to weekend reports in Spain:

* Liverpool are considering a renewed bid for Gameiro, who is currently playing second-fiddle to Colombia striker Carlos Bacca.

* Sevilla are allegedly willing to sell the France international for £10m [€13m].

When asked this week about Liverpool's interest, Gameiro told Sevilla-based newspaper El Desmarque:

"We've spoken to the club [about a transfer to Liverpool], but they said they do not want to sell and would not let me go. For now, I am in Spain. Then we'll see. I do not close the door"

Prior to his move to Sevilla, Liverpool were regularly linked with a move for Gameiro:

* December 2012:, The Guardian reported: "Liverpool will try to secure Kevin Gameiro on an initial six-month loan from Paris St-Germain should the [Sturridge] deal collapse".

* January 2013: The Telegraph stated: "Liverpool are pressing ahead with a loan bid for Paris St-Germain striker Kevin Gameiro, despite the imminent arrival of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea"

* March 2013: Le Parisien claimed: "Gameiro's agent has established solid contact with three clubs: Aston Villa, Liverpool and Valencia, but they will have to pay the €10m requested by PSG"

Gameiro's stats for Sevilla:

* 29 goals/7 assists in 68 apps.
* Goal every 2.3 games (1 every 123 mins)
* Goal/Assist every 1.8 games (1 every 99 mins)
* PSG: 1 goal every 168 mins. Goal/assist every 138 mins.

PSG coach Antoine Kombouare is a fan of Gameiro, and prior to his Sevilla move, he outlined the striker's main qualities:

"Gameiro is mentally strong, and has great self-belief. He is able to make space for himself, but he is, above all, a formidable goalscorer, and is in the right place at the right time"

As his stats show, since signing for Sevilla, Gameiro has improved his goals/assists-per minute stats by 29%, but is he capable of making a similar improvement at Liverpool?

In terms of consistently scoring/creating goals, Gameiro is arguably on upgrade on Borini, Lambert, and Balotelli, and with experience of two of Europe's top leagues, he could - for the right price - be a very astute addition.

Worth a bid?

  2. As he'd be an upgrade then yes why not- we need a goal scorer - like now

  3. Another Stated Facts that leads to nowhere!!! Right now with all the people we are linked to or wants to come LFC we should have a three squads that can win EPL CL and everything else!!!

  4. Please no. I don't think he is any upgrade from Borini, Ballotelli or even Lambert. BR just can't come out of mid-table mentality. He is very good at buying several players of this range & make a squad good for top half, but I don't see him attracting top players who can make impact in big matches.

  5. I think it would be worth it, if they were willing to take Aspas on a permanent deal, to off set some of the cost..

  6. Well his team looked like it could compete at the top last night

  7. Decent stats and pedigree for a low risk transfer. He might be worth a punt

  8. Even if he can't attract the top players we still need a striker

  9. Couldn't watch the game last night but Felipe Luiz looks like Laura Ingalls from Little house on the prairie ( kids watch it before anyone asks)

  10. You see met, this is Rogers impact - you are a LFC fan & now happy that we could "compete" at top lever at Anfield, even without one starting striker, that too for our only Cup hope - the mighty League Cup against a side still in contention for EPL, CL & FA Cup.

    Think a bit higher met, even in Rafa days, this same "at the top Manager" would have been happy, had he been able to "compete" at Anfield.

  11. Definitely worth a shot, but not the 1st team solution we are looking for. Better than any backup we have currently though, and for 10M, I'd say definitely worth it. Sell Aspas and Alberto for around 10M combined.

  12. Nope I am happy that after losing Suarez, integrating several new players and having Sturridge injured the team is now coming together and competing with the best .

    That is not the extent of my ambition but what are tou saying change the manager and reshuffle the pack again?

  13. get him in the January window itself. Sell Aspas, Borini,Luis Alberto.
    I would keep Lambert.

  14. OK you can have him;-)

  15. We both (me and Lambert) love LFC :D
    Btw , I think Lambert offers aerial threat, and I believe he'll improve with time . The guy doesn't lack conviction. Borini IMO is a lost cause, he can't score goals, what else do we need him for !

  16. I think we all know by now money attracts top players, ask Di Maria.

  17. dont think a lot of money if any will be forthcoming- but we will still need a striker

  18. I agree about Borini. Unfortunately though Lambert has been as bad and doesn't press as well.

    I admit I thought he would add a different kind of threat and I loved the Liverpool connection but it just has not worked out

  19. He cannot be any worse than Balotelli, and probably a lot better, and for millions less fee.

  20. Rogers wont buy him, he's too good and too cheap!!! Argghhh!!!

  21. Based on the stats it would look like a Dirk Kuyt type of player, I also like the fact he has already been at a big club so no settlin/adjustment time,the price seems okay as well.

    Trouble is I do not really see how he would fit in our current style? But if really replacing another outgoing player then its good

  40. I would prefer a TOP NOTCH Keeper, we would have put 3 or 4 past Chelsea the other night, if it was not for Courtois.

    ReplyDelete
  41. did you forgot about last season? we finish 2nd with champions league in hand but still we losing our top player and none of the top players coming, is not about BR or any one else, is about the player it self..... when you play great season in one year, of course big team will come to you with the proposal, and it's hardly rejected by the players unless the player got their hearth painted in RED......

  42. I actually don't agree - MANU failed to qualify for CL & I am sure had Moyes been around, a lot of players would have left. Best example was Juve in 2005 - relegated to Seria B, but they kept almost the entire squad intact.

    Yes, club loyalty is an issue, but still I think, profile of Manager has lot to do bringing top class players.

  43. Man utd and juve did that because they recently became the big club around the European, but our glory is become history already, that's why top player won't come to us instead of going to arsenal, man utd or chealsea, the manager big reputation will help so little in this case i think.......
