Dump Him: 84% of fans want LFC to sell 'fantastic' star ASAP. Shock result?

Crystal Palace reportedly want to sign 'fantastic' Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert during the January transfer window, but what do Liverpool fans think about that possibility?

According to The Guardian this week:

"Rickie Lambert has emerged as a transfer target for Crystal Palace.

"Alan Pardew has inquired about the availability of Lambert, who he signed for Southampton in 2009.

"Liverpool are keen to retain Lambert despite his difficult start at Anfield"

On Friday, I conducted a poll on the site asking fans whether Liverpool should sell Lambert:

* 10350 (approx) people participated in the poll (which is still onging)
* A whopping 84% of participants votes for Liverpool to dump Lambert.

That's a stunning vote of no-confidence in Lambert, who has struggled to replicate his Southampton form at Anfield. He's also failed to do the job most fans expected of him, which is to make the difference against the more physical teams in the Premier League.

It appears, however, that Liverpool are not interested in selling. According to the Liverpool Echo today:

"Brendan Rodgers has no intention of selling Lambert. The signing of Lambert was always viewed as providing Liverpool with a Plan B and Rodgers wants to ensure they have that between now and the end of the campaign".

Rodgers deservedly dropped Lambert for Saturday's 1-0 victory over Sunderland, and although Fabio Borini is no great shakes, he offers much more, especially when it comes to pressing, work-rate etc.

Additionally, Daniel Sturridge is due to return in January, which will further curtail Lambert's playing time, so it's probably better if he just leaves this month.

  1. Initially i was against it
But if we sign a Berahino or Ings i wont be upset
both have pace and can score goals

  2. Pretty emphatic result! Balotelli should be our plan b in my opinion, and we should let Lambert go and play elsewhere. Our only priority is to find a top goalkeeper!

    ReplyDelete
  3. the plan B argument has failed so far, the game against Wimbledon was the perfect exemple of that.
Lambert will stay for the same reason he has been bought as long as Rodgers is in charge anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Exactly. Lambert would have been okay for a 4th man backup, but with Balo, he's completely redundant. Borini can play backup if he really wants to stay, and if he doesn't, then we have Origi. All we need is a good #2 for when Studge is out.

  5. For those who voted to get rid, shame on you... The bloke is being misused by Brendan, much like Nuri Sahin, but its the player that gets labelled a flop, not the misguided manager....
As for Balotelli being the better plan B option, Ha! he is so desperate to scpre, he ignores his better placed teammates and looks like a cat on a hot tin roof in his efforts....Borini looked sour as month old milk when he was subbed today, not sure why, he too is out of his depth and trying too hard... Nah! I'd take Lambert over those 2 everyday... Just use him properly.

  6. Pace is key
Lambert is as slow as tortoise so can never be a good striker unless he plays for a club like afc wimbelton who play long ball

    ReplyDelete
  7. Lallana has not suffered small club mentality at all.. He was injured for the start of the season so he missed pre season and the first few games, hence it tiik him a little longer to get upto speed, and at no point did he look uncomfortable or out of place... Up until this week he has easily been one of our best players.... He will become a big player for LFC, that much is already evident...

    ReplyDelete
  8. I don't think Lallana is struggling with anything except fitness personally

    ReplyDelete
  9. Just to add, Lambert's "proper" use is as a target man, bringing down long balls.

Problem #1 is like you said, no pace. He can't get in behind defenses and he can't beat defenders to inaccurate balls. He is being exposed because he has no partner to take some attention off him. (the latter is the same with Balo, but at least he has the physical attributes. He's gotten into some key positions when played, more so than Lambo)

Problem #2 is we don't have the required supporting players. And we probably never will. For someone with Lambert's skill set, we need to be playing cross balls to his head, or direct to his feet. Markovic and Moreno are our only true attack minded wide players, and both prefer to dribble. As for the latter, only Hendo and Sterling run off the forward (Lallana and Coutinho prefer to create) so balls to his feet are pointless.

While I agree he hasn't been used properly, to accommodate him we'll have to drastically change the mindset of our players. It's not just a formational fix, like Balo. Considering he's not our primary forward, we shouldn't even consider doing that.

  10. i agree that rodgers has to take blame for mis-management... but in this case the mis-management was buying lambert in the first place, with rodgers knowing full well he cant press the ball like he wants his players to do, so selling him seems the most appropriate action. i personally never did label sahin a flop because i really feel ridgers missed a trick with him (largely thanks to his prodigy joe allen) and i blamed rodgers wholeheartedly. the fact remains that lambert ruins the flow of the team and while its not his fault he was bought, we shouldnt keep him because of any sentiment or other excuses.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Why was he bought? At £4M, some would consider him a low risk buy. However, he's not of the requisite standard. As for him being a plan B, the team is only ever set up to play plan A, whether Lambert is on the pitch or not. Aside from Gerrard, no one else can consistently deliver quality crosses. Liverpool consistently display a distinct lack of joined up thinking. When will things change?

  12. Like i said
70 mins you drawing or losing

    Lambert is coming on

You feel so depressed you know you lost, the team loses its shape and depends on a guy who looks so sluggish and tires and out of breath and slow, slow, slow

  13. Sahin is a quality player and well respected in football circles. If he had been managed correctly, he probably would still be a Liverpool player and finding a replacement for Gerrard might not have been an issue.en

  14. Reports Liverpool will sell Lucas to Inter and buy Fabian Delph this window
    what do people think?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yep! I think, if we were ever to buy Lambert, it should have ben last season when we only needed a plan B and not a Plan A aswell... But now he's a year older and slower... Shame though...

    ReplyDelete
  16. If Lucas is getting back to his best and he's sold, then Inter benefit. I do think we need to find a more pacy, powerful defensive midfielder. That doesnt detract from the fact that Lucas has been fantastic for us at times, and may still have something to offer, but not a natural DM for me.

Fabian Delph......say no more. Very much doubt that he will go for as little as the quoted £7.5M. He is British and average, after all.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I must have imagined his great games for Southampton, and dreamt his goals for England.... Neither play long ball football.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Good player but I'd get rid. No disrespect but yes Balos an appropriate plan b for me. Bring in another quality striker though.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Haha nailed it

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm hoping for a draw too

    ReplyDelete
  21. That's what wanted to hear.

    ReplyDelete
  22. In the second half, They nearly equalized. And were taking the game to us as S Mcmanaman was saying while commentating. The game should have been over in first half, but in football. 0 1 a goal could be scored in 5 seconds, so when a team goes down to 10 men you should bury them. But shows how average we are:

Coutinho(22) for all his magic and touches, the reason he will never get ahead of Oscar(23) in the brazil side is oscar(23) is a finisher and has goals in his locker.
Apart from Scoring goals Coutinho(22) is better player, but goals win you games and stand out.

Borini(23) showed he is headless chicken as usual, Markovic(20) looked good in splirts, our best defender at club ( Sakho(24) was immense again), L Leiva(27) was immense also,

But when a team goes a man down against you, you need to show your class and punish them. Something we did not do today, yeah a win was a win. But it was not as comfortable as it should have been

    ReplyDelete
  23. Every home side in this league will have a spell where they will carry the game and make a chance or two, no matter how big the gulf in class between them. Even so Sunderland had almost nothing to show for their spell. Couple of corners, and that was it really.

You can say what *should* happen when a team go down to 10, but what usually *actually* happens is that they make tactical changes and intensify their efforts, presenting new challenges to their opponents.

I don't really understand what people mean by average in a football context so I'm not going to dispute that with you. I think Liverpool look like one of the division's form teams, are an improving side with some of the most exciting youngsters in Europe, and will be contenders for third or fourth place at the end of the season along with Arsenal, Spurs, and Man Utd, largely because of the influence of their outstanding young coach.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I know Sahin is a good player but not in england, i think this league was too fast for him.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The reality is what we've seen when players are injured i.e. Lambert is a necessity. He shouldn't have started so many games but we needed him none the less. There is really no point in selling him and risking being short on strikers at any point this season.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I respect Lambert and was happy with his signing initially as i thought he'd be a good sub player and come on and shake it up a bit but as this season has turned out we arent as free scoring as last season. So every attacker we have needs to be a starting goal scoring threat, unfortunately Lambert isnt that

    ReplyDelete
  27. They had a bit of the ball and the one chance off the bar but we controlled the game so much just think we stepped off a little but we soon sorted ourselves out. Yes we didn't score the 2nd when we probably should have but we controlled the ball at the end and gave the little opportunity to attack. Wins don't come easy in the prem....Sunderland don't score enough goals but get draws and have already taken points off ManU Spurs West Ham and Chelsea at the stadium of light, so its all very well saying we should walk it but the reality is it was a good result. 4 points from 4th depending on results tomorrow...momentum is building, the new signings are all contributing and with Lallana, Sterling and most importantly Sturridge to come back into the squad the doom and gloom should be subsiding now....we don't need 8 players mate...Balotelli will come good for me once he is played with Studge in a diamond (which was always what was intended) but if Borini leaves we should get 1 striker in...a goalie to compete with MIGs, the lack of this is the problem for him I think...he is not suddenly a bad keeper..other than that we are stacked in every position. Read this back in May....but we will finish in the top four comfortably. Maybe even top three still....

    ReplyDelete
  28. Personally I'd get rid of Borini, but nobody wants to pay for him which isn't really surprising. Lambert is a senior pro, a local Liverpool lad, with Gerrard leaving there aren't many left in the dressing room who really understand what it means to wear that shirt. Apart from Flanno who has been injured all season and is very young, is there anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am afraid Schneiderlin is just a very good holding player with neat passin.... he doesn't do anything Lucas didn't do today or over the last few weeks....Lucas is a Brazilian international....why would we spend £20m on something we have already got. I would also point out that almost all the new signings are playing and contributing well now, despite most of them being ridiculously written off after half a season. Momentum is building slowly.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I feel I should declare that Lucas turned 28 on 9 January... :-)

  31. Balotelli needs to step his attitude up massively. He has more natural football ability than Diego Costa, but he has the mind of a 15 year old child. He prefers hanging with his mates and buying expensive toys rather than pushing himself to achieve his potential. If he had half the work rate and attitude of Costa he would dominate teams. Someone has to sit him down and show him videos of Costa and the way that guy puts himself about for the team. Balotelli has more pace, two great feet and is great in the air, the only thing stopping him is the brain and heart is willing. Balotelli could be plan A if he could be bothered. Lambert is still a plan B. Get rid of Borini I say, he may run around a lot but he just doesn't have what we need. If Liverpool are to catch up with the top teams again next season Borini isn't the player to help fire us up there.

    ReplyDelete
  32. my opinion is balotelli should be the first striker shipped out wages are too high, plus he seems to have no idea where team mates are.

    ReplyDelete
  33. LFC pays guys to figure that out. I like Berahino. I like Zaha. I like Joel Campbell and Theo Walcott. And who knows...maybe Suarez is starting to think he made a mistake? He's getting splinters in his butt.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Let's not forget who brought Lambert here, is it not the same useless muppet who brought...Borino, Loveren, Allen, Margovic, Ballotteli, Mingolet....and the same guy who let Agger, Renia and now Suso looks to be heading out. My god if anyone goes it should be the little man with the football brain of peanut......the IMPOSTER Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  35. BR always talks about our style of play,Getting the players who suit his style bla bla bla...........and always bids for plan B players like lambert,Balotelli,Borini,Assaidi....God Knows wht our transfer Commitee does in gettin the right players....

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes but still rodgers goes with sterling when all of them are available..that says it all and shows the quality of our back up strikers..he will never fit in the style rodgers plays

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lambert is a traffic cone

    ReplyDelete
  38. Selling Lambert makes no sense as we will get no money from or lose much from keeping him, as he doesn't demand a hefty wage. I don't see any point in making changes to our striker alternatives unless we can get a solid improvement from what we already have. Sturridge, Balotelli (which showed some potential yesterday), Borini (always giving 100%), Lambert and with the possibility of Origi coming home, there should be plenty of alternatives to pick from. There is no reason why Rodgers shouldn't get the best of of them, given he actually gives them a chance!!

Our real problem has been the defense, and I'm pointing on Mignolet + Lovren. They need to step up their game and Rodgers needs to get a grip of his defensive training. Who ever's in charge, if any, is not doing a very good job.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Berahino looks good but will cost lots and might be a flash in the pan. I think Campbell and Walcott (injuries?) are similar to what we already have ( Markovic Sterling) or have to come (Origi Ibe) and FFP precludes Suarez. But I agree the idea

    ReplyDelete
  40. I wish but can't afford him

    ReplyDelete
  41. DONT SIGN BERAHINO sign Benteke now sell borini lambert

    ReplyDelete
  42. He plays all the bloody time. Who pays 70mill for a bench warmer?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't think you're footballing opinions comecome from watching the game at all.

    ReplyDelete
  44. When did i say 8 players in?

We need 5 top players this transfer window brought in and 8 dead wood average players shipped out. We have played most of the top 1-7 sides now and how many have we actually beaten?

Two: Southampton and Tottenham and lost to most of the others, whilst we drew with Arsenal and Everton at Home. We need a top class GK, A Mobile DM, A Top Class CM and two class mobile pacey forwards brought to club this transfer window

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well they did

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh yes, a keeper definitely.

    ReplyDelete
  47. We just need him once a week.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Did you see him tonight.....sigh

    ReplyDelete
  49. Too good :-( Must admit I wasn't sad to see him leave, considering his antics, but my word he is a classy footballer. 65m just doesn't make up for it
