Big Surprise? - 64% of fans urge BR not to sell 'incredible' €12m LFC star

Last week, Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini admitted that he'd like to sign Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva during the January transfer window, but do Reds fans want the Brazilian to leave?

Inter are reportedly 'close' to sealing a deal for €12m-rated Lucas, and when asked whether Inter are planning to make a January bid for the midfielder, Mancini told reporters:

"[Lucas Leiva] is a great player, but he belongs to Liverpool and it's going to be hard to get him. He would be useful, though, as he can help us, and help our younger players grow."

On Tuesday, conducted a poll on the site asking whether Liverpool should sell Lucas:

* 10550 people participated in the poll.
* 64% of participants voted NO to Liverpool selling Lucas.

In my view, this is a very surprising result, especially since Lucas - recently hailed by Brendan Rodgers for his 'incredible' attitude - has been on the outs at Anfield for over a year now.

Earlier this week, Lucas gave the following update on his Anfield future:

“My future? At the moment all I know is that I won’t return to Gremio. Everyone knows Napoli came after me over the summer, but at this moment they have showed no concrete interest in me"

Rodgers recently brought Lucas back into the team, and he's back to being a regular starter this season, but is he the long-term solution at defensive midfield? I personally don't think so.

Bar Emre Can, who Rodgers doesn't seem to trust in the role, Liverpool basically has no other viable option in the position, and when the summer comes, a top class holding midfielder should be top of LFC's transfer wish-list.

The good thing is that Lucas is currently in the shop window, and if he plays well, it'll hopefully mean that Liverpool are able to secure a decent transfer fee.

  1. It is not that we want him here its we have no one better right now , While we have a gizzilion times bigger problems up front and in goal so focus and priority should be there.
Lucas is a good steady ,consistent performer and good enough for now.

  2. We really need this guy! One of the better players in his position in whole premier league. Really difficult to replace. I think our stats without Lucas are 2W 2D 8L and 9W 4D 2L with Lucas.

Allen on the other hand... he is not good enough imo and should be replaced with a better player. Nainggolan, Schneiderlin or someone like that.

  3. Lucas has always been crap, time to get rid.

  4. keep allen and gerrard yet sell lucas is there any logic in that

  5. just read your post again jk great joke at the end about Liverpool getting a good transfer fee ,them italian clubs will wear rodgers and liverpool like a cheap suit and fleece us

  6. we have problems all over the pitch m8

  7. That stems from the two positions
Creative attackers such as Sterling and Coutinho have no one to pass to , to finish their good work , how many times have we seen Couts and Sterling take on three men then lose the ball as Lambert and Balo are not on same wavelength.
While if the goalkeeper saves more chances defenders have less focus on them so grow in confidence .

  8. Gerarrd is done , time to hang up the boots or go MLS

  9. Yes lets sack a manger who only just signed a 4 year contract and spend in the region of 8m in doing so when that money topped up by sales can go on a good striker or goalkeeper

  10. Sad state of affairs when we wished Lucas stays. Once again this highlights the ineptitude of last summers transfers. We've needed an athletic enforcer since Monster Macherano & Momo Sissoko. Back then we were competitive with Chelski & Man Ltd. Lucas has been a great servant but plans for his departure should have been made last season. With Alex Song loan (with a view to buy), then we had champions league to bargain with.

  11. Nainggolan will be a complete flop for lfc
    Schniederlin or Song maybe

    ReplyDelete
  12. Alex Song apparently rejected many cl teams
to join west ham because he wants to live in London and so does his wife.
I live in London and Liverpool is a complete junk city compared to it just broken old warn down houses ,

  13. I thought we could outcompete the Hammers. Ouch that second part of your comment is very controversial. I'm sure there are scousers who may beg to differ. This coming from a fellow Londoner!

  14. None, so don't rule it out.

  15. Since its not the place they will end up living all their life i dont think thats a major factor with many players.
Its not like the players live in poor areas.

  16. i read somewhere he wanted to join Liverpool and by the way there is plenty of decent real estate around the northwest which is a lot cheaper and a lot safer than London....parts of merseyside are rough but parts of london are as well

  17. i have been calling for world class dm for several seasons but because Rodgers was pandering to Gerard the position was allocated to him.....it always looks like im slagging gerrard im not hes been a great player but if he isnt playing as a number 10 or in the front 3 he shouldn't be playing

    ReplyDelete
  18. the reality is doc he wouldn't be living around an-field he would live in some leafy suburb of cheshire or formby

  19. it doesnt matter how good your goalie is if every time he walks out its like rourkes drift

  20. No need to convince me mate, I've a wealthy uncle who has a mansion in Southport & I've seen some parts of Chesire!

  21. to me it seemed like you were always slagging gerrard
    : )
nice of you to clear that up

    ReplyDelete
  22. i just had this urge to defend the area but your right merseyside is a sh%t hole

  23. the pleasures all mine i actually don't have favorites and judge each player on there last performance

  24. ive never understood sacking a manager and paying them off just put them in charge of the women s team or coaching the kids there egos would then make them resign

    ReplyDelete
  25. Rodgers like liverpools female employees
and Rodgers does not mind working with kids

    ReplyDelete
  26. Probably the same people who think Rodgers will get it right in the end and that his signings will come good.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lallana,Markovic,Can,Moreno all shown glimpses of their talent
to sugegst tehy will come good
Balotelli and Lovren have not but Balotelli was not a rodgers signings a gamble as rodgers called it , i am sure our loss on balotelli will be cut soon
So the real jury is mainly on lovren can he do a fellani?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Slightly insulting to say the least!
Have you actually walked around certain parts of London (ie Tottenham)!
Although Merseyside may have its horrid areas, like everywhere, it's probably one of the last places in England that still retains some national identity and original culture!
..On another note, unless we sign 2 DMs in January we need to keep him till the end of the season. Our 2 main priorities should be signing Cech at all costs and shipping out Balotelli, in that order... everyone surely agrees with the last part?!

    ReplyDelete
  29. And what? Still be overpriced crap!

    ReplyDelete
  30. No he hasn't hes still attached to the teat

    ReplyDelete
  31. Personally I'd have a goalkeeper at the top of the shopping list

    ReplyDelete
  32. Not a striker?
if you cannot score goals this only increases pressures on defenses as it increases chance of opponents winning matches
Making us more likelier to conceded

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree we're in dire need of a striksr but with the imminent return of Sturridge, I think a goalkeeper is more urgent. Mignolet's heads gone totally at the moment

    ReplyDelete
  34. On a slightly related note, did Rodgers actually say that Brad Jones was taken off before he'd injured his "thigh muscle"? Seriously? His one thigh muscle? Jones looked well p!ssed when taken off and didn't shake Rodgers' hand, nor was he limping, nor did he receive immediate treatment. I'd like someone to lipread his rant to Rickie Lambert on the bench, too. Then BR says it was his "thigh muscle".

Surely he could have made the lie more believable by adding a bit of detail, or am I reading too much into this?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree with everything you said except the last part ;-) Big soft spot for Balotelli and I still hope he comes good for us, although Rodgers' recent comments are pouring cold water on that.

    ReplyDelete
  36. No, we need a keeper who will dominate his box and make players worry about just lofting any old cross into the box.
I believe that's the reason Courtous has usurped Cech in the Chelsea goal- I don't think he's a better shot stopper , but he comes and claims the ball on crosses, corners and free kicks almost every time it's anywhere near him.
With us it's panic stations as the opposition know they can load the box without fear of the keeper launching a quick counterattack after catching the ball. Mignolet almost NEVER catches the ball.

  37. I'm tallking about Borini, Allen, Aspas, Alberto, Mignolet, Sakho etc. You know, the players everyone said about they may come good? Did they? No. Doesnt promise much for this summers signings doesnt it?

    ReplyDelete
  38. National identity and original culture is another way of saying prejudice and lack of tolerance and understanding of other cultures. Exactly the reasons some players and their families wont come to Liverpool. Look at the way the city and club rallied round Suarez and criticised Evra for being racially abused - you think everyone has short memories?
Players and their families see the news. If I'm a player, I want my family to be comfortable and happy. I want my missus to have friends and not be limited to communicating with other football wives who only want to go shopping and clubbing. All of these things play a part.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why the hell is Sakho on the list?

    ReplyDelete
  40. He runs funny sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Some people just can't accept that the guy is a very good defender. JK included

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sorry but I completely disagree. I've worked all over the country and abroad too and Liverpool with it's surrounding areas is one of the most hospitable places you can go. There are many different cultures and races scattered around but unlike other areas they are actually integrating and showing a respect whilst enriching (not saturating) it with their own culture.
Anyway I'm abroad for the time being and am proud to be from an internationally recognised place that foreigners are only too happy to recall stories of the great times they have had with people from this 'prejudice' place.
Apologies for being a bit political but it gets on my nerves when people cast incorrect assumptions!
As for Suarez, it wouldn't matter what colour anybody involved on either side was as the whole saga was a grey area and rightly or wrongly in those parts you stick up for your own near enough at all times. I know who I'd want backing me up in the low times.
Lastly the point being made about WAGS too is a bit feeble seeing as though the players are from far and wide, like every club!

*sorry but balotelli just doesn't do it for me. Although an admitted mistake and not necessarily utilised to his maximum the backing of him in my eyes diminishes everytime I see his lack of effort, cohesion with team mates and desire to constantly shoot from any impossible angle!
Rant over, amen, good will to all:)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sorry Merts, the WAGs bit you mention is true and I misread although that would be the case at any club as meeting true friends in any area would be hard at first.
One negative I would add is that it's too bloody cold. If I was a footballer it would be La Liga all day long for me!
