LFC Alert: BR keen to sign 'brave' £10m star destroyed by Suarez. Wants transfer in January

On Sunday, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers threw a major curve-ball on with his decision to replace Simon Mignolet with Brad Jones, and although the Australian is now Rodgers' new number one, the club is still looking for a a long-term solution, and the latest name to enter the fray is Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy.

According to the Daily Mail today:

* Liverpool are currently considering a January move for Ruddy, described by Chris Hughton as 'assured, confident, and brave'.

* The 28-year old is desperate to quit Norwich in a bid to further his England ambitions.

£10m-rated Ruddy is a seasoned performer, but is he really a a better option Mignolet? Let's take a look at his primary stats:

* 222 goals conceded in 155 games (1.4 per game)
* 37 clean sheets (16% of games. One every 6 games)

Mignolet's LFC stats:

* 83 goals conceded in 62 games (1.4 per game)
* 14 clean sheets (23% of games. One every 4.4 games)

In my view, Liverpool need to sign a goalkeeper with a far superior record, and Ruddy is clearly not an upgrade on Mignolet.

Ruddy definitely feels for Mignolet, though. When asked about Rodgers' decision to bench the Belgian for Sunday's defeat at Man United, he told Goals on Sunday:

“I’m disappointed for him. Yes, he has had a difficult start to the season but I’m not sure any Liverpool player hasn’t. To drop your number one goalkeeper is quite harsh bu...I’m sure Simon will bounce back"

Rodgers decision smacks of the Pellegrini-Hart situation last season. The Spaniard surprised everyone by dropping the England goalkeeper for a number of games, but no one really believed that Pantilimon would actually replace him long-term. Indeed, Pellegrini later admitted that he always intended to bring Hart back into the fold, so 'dropping' him was just a motivational ploy.

To me, it seems like Rodgers is employing the same strategy, and bringing in Jones is way of trying to shock Mignolet into better form. I doubt it will work. though. Mignolet just isn't good enough, and instead of (allegedly) trying to sign journeymen like Ruddy (against whom Luis Suarez scored 11 goals during his LFC career) Rodgers should focus on finding a top class replacement.

  1. John Ruddy is very average IMO. We need to splash the cash on Hugo Lloris or Peter Cech.

  2. John ruddy - I have heard it all now

  3. Wow, sorry but Mignolet isn't bad enough to go for Ruddy. Strangely enough in one of my two visits to the UK, I met John at my cousins place, while he was a reserve at Everton. Nice guy, not a great goalkeeper. I doubt we'll get Lloris, but we definitely do need to address the issue.

  4. No thanks. At least yesterday Mignolet could not be blamed for our inept defence. There are better keepers than Mignolet but Jones should not be starting ahead of him.

Our defence is one massive issue. You can bring whichever keeper you want, he will concede goals playing behind our defence.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Jones was ok yesterday man of the match DeGea would have had 3 past him had he been in a Liverpool shirt.

  6. More floppers on their way to Anfield!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Minor correction Jaimie: Pellegrini is Chilean, not Spanish.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Jones needs to be ahead of him because Mignolet is an absolute liability with the way his confidence is. A primary use of having a second choice keeper is to give the first-choice a boot up the arse when they are out of form. He's not just there to play an occasional Cup game and be an injury-filler.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ha, this is the 3rd or 4th time recently that Jaimie has made a nationality mistake!

  10. Number of clean sheets is not entirely down to the goalkeeper. Don't make all your judgement on statistics.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Took the words right out of my mouth

    ReplyDelete
  12. Agree, put Lovren in front of any goalkeeper and then check how many "clean sheets" he has...

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah confidence is low but so are the skill levels in attack and defense.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mate, if you had to ask Mourinho to select Skrtel, Johnson and Lovren for the Chelsea starting eleven then Courtois would be under constant pressure and he would struggle to keep clean sheets.

If you think otherwise then that is your prerogative.

    ReplyDelete
  15. How about this- Brandan as a keeper so he can whisper 'outstanding' and 'brilliant' to his three pets. Johnson in a back 3?!? That guy would cost us goals as a 'shadow striker'. I think I just found nickname for Glen... Damn, I hate this club...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I am still of the opinion that a new manager will get better results out of our current squad.

Rodgers is just going with the flow now and will stick to his principles. He knows his time is up.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You would have his direct resignation if you told him to do that....

    ReplyDelete
  18. He would still concede less goals because he's actually a better organiser of the defence. Defenders also feed off their confidence in their keeper. This is what Grobelaar argues, and he's no mug.

Of course Courtois would concede less goals with our back 4, but would he concede as many as Mignolet? I doubt that. Highly.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, that comparison isn't fair right now. To Liverpool...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Like I said, it is your prerogative if you think otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I didn't even know who that was when I read the name...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well he wouldn't do it anyway :-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Of course Courtois would concede less goals with our back 4, but would he concede as many as Mignolet? I doubt that. Highly.

    ???

    ReplyDelete
  24. He doesn't know his best formation either. All this chopping and changing, week in week out, the players are equally confused

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with your line-up, mostly, but disagree that BR needs to leave, and doubt that he'll drop Gerrard and Henderson for any meaningful length of time.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh come on get a world class young prospect stop cheaping out espieacilly on a keeper they are the ones that determin weather games are won or lost

    ReplyDelete
  27. This season is a write off. We're too far behind to do anything. Best case scenario we win a cup. Preferably the EL :-) Either way, if we're going to replace the manager we better do it now and give the new manager half a year to build during an already lost season. That way he knows what he has to work with and can make an immediate impact in his first full season. Anyway, if Rodgers does get sacked, it shouldn't be because results are going against us right now but because he is the one responsible for it. The way I see it, he is. None of his transfers have made a permanent impact (and yes I'm including Sturridge at this stage), he has consistently signed players for the future when he should have been investing in his team right now and he doesn't seem to be able to make players who performed well last year, perform at at least the same level. And to top that off, he no longer controls the dressing room.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If there is a smart guy next to him(and behind him, and in the locker room) Skrtel can be good. But those two... Wisdom and Kelly are far better options.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Based on blind faith or because of anything he's shown?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Rodgers can make the right players click and work together. He just can't identify and buy the right players.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Honestly Loges they need an injection of world class talent to make the top 4 .
We saw how far we got last season with top class performers doing a great job.
Sure we can do better than 10th thats for sure i just dont think we have the quality of the best 4 sides.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I said yesterday that I would prefer Hyppia to BR right now. But honestly, only a better manager would - get better results out of our current squad- and threre are probably not any available right now. Plus, we are Liverpool, if we want to move in the right way, we need not just better, we need much better...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Eum - things turned sour when he was given funds and he decided he needed Gareth Barry. And when he decided he needed to have a go at Ferguson rather than to concentrate on beating Middlesborough and Stoke. And when he decided that anyone who disagreed with him needed to go, like Ayesteran. He signed Torres under G&H, Babel, Mascherano, Skrtel, Keane, Johnson and Aquilani so let's not pretend he was not given funds. The only one not given Funds was Hodgson yet still he's seen as the failure and not Benitez. Sure he won us the CL and an FA cup but there was not much to see after that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Pity that Norwich got relegated last season. Played entertaining football from the bits I saw.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Had we had Flanno instead of Shadow Johnson, had we had Sturridge, we would have been in a much better position. And I just highlighted two spots and added some flare and sheer class to the team. The team- captain or vice captain, and the manager have to say something in Shankly's words and than someone on the pitch has to 'die' for the ball that will win us the game. And than we've turned it around.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I was going to make a similar point. A keeper's stats are so heavily influenced by what happens on the pitch in front of them that it hardly seems appropriate to judge them based solely on avg. goals conceded or number of clean sheets. An assessment based on long term observation is surely the only logical approach. Unfortunately for Liverpool, Migs has proved himself (long term) to be poor on crosses and oft prone to terrible lapses in judgement. Not saying that Ruddy would be my choice as a replacement; I think we need a keeper with experience who has proved consistent in one of Europe's top leagues, but the point is valid.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Liverpool need a manager that can work with younger players and still compete
so that rules da boer out he has always had the best squad in the league he will not have that luxury here
so who can work with younger players and a lower budjet and be sucsessful

the only manager i can think of is Martinez or Villas Boas

    ReplyDelete
  38. Flannos not going to win you too many games and lets face it Sturridge cannot be relied upon due to his injury concerns.
Even injury free we do not have the talent required.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree, the most successful manager of recent times has been Ferguson and his tenure didn't exactly get off to a flier:

    86/87 - 11th
    87/88 - 2nd
    88/89 - 11th
    89/90 - 13th
    90/91 - 6th
    91/92 - 2nd
    92/93 - 1st

    ReplyDelete
  40. The lack of skill throughout our team is appalling, but, then again Rodgers never plays the right players. I mean Can has more technical ability in one toenail than Allen has in his entire body. Same with Manquillo ahead of Johnson. I would not expect these players to lose the ball cheaply like the ones playing.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Fair call Sid the thing we need most i think is players who can finish the misses are getting to be unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I told you all that before that there is not going to be any MONEY given to Brendan Rogers.
FSG will not sanction any player purchases after spending that they did in the Summer.
They will wait until the end of the season, which increasingly looks like Brendan Rogers on his way.
I also said months ago that Brendan Rogers is a COACH not a manager in the Mourinho Wenger sense.
I stated that he was learning on the Job at Liverpool and was making mistakes in that process.
he will get better as a Manager just like he did after Reading, however it wont be at Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well Rodgers not getting any money i'm sending him a fiver.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I called it before. The only player who can regularly score given the chances at the moment is gerrard. Nobody else can be depended on doing it. Sure, lallana or lambert will come up with some but not on a regular basis in pressure situations. We need a poacher for sure. I was not in Cavour of bony but I admit I got that one wrong. I think he is the player we should sign or lacazette but I know he is never going to come.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Flanno-flare. We need that more than we need quality on that position. And Daniel- by laws of nature he can't be injured anymore...

    ReplyDelete
  46. I like Lacazette myself i thought we should have bought Bony in his Holland days none the less if we go out on a limb and offer a bit extra we could lure Lacazette well i hope anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  47. When relating to injured players two names Kelly and Agger.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Fergie: 11th 2nd 11th

    Rodgers: 7th 2nd 9th

Bet Utd fans sounded just like our Rodgers out now ones back then. Nobody is saying wait 7 years like they did, but 6 months from coming 2nd?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I also think one our mistakes was origi. He is not some world beater than you take such an investment on. He was actually booed by the Lille fans because of his poor return. And, en he is going to have to handle a new league and high expectations. Lacazette is the perfect player but that is why Rodgers will not sign him. We need a reliable outlet and I would be willing to take a punt on kiessling or someone like that who can get goals.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The need for a top class keeper was shown to us on sunday... De gea made some great stops to deny us and had it not been for him we could of come away with something from that game... as much as i have been critical of BR lately the 3-0 scoreline flattered ManU. The defence is not much better than ours but how many times has their keeper kept them in it? we def cant say the same for us...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Not quite....haven't you heard BR wants to bring David ('calamity') James out of retirement?

    ReplyDelete
  52. I can see Migs doing what De Gea did yesterday. And Dudek too...

    ReplyDelete
  53. He is too busy giving speeches in India to worry about our petty problems.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I can see Migs doing what De Gea did yesterday. And Dudek too

  55. Where are Ajax in the European stage again?

    Err.......Europa Cup, same as us

Domestically- 2nd in a 2 team league. heard of the 3rd place team PEC Zwole?

    Thought not.

Not exactly a massive upgrade. Needs to be a top manager like Simeone or leave BR in place

    ReplyDelete
  56. Really .... well he had better start because we sure need it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. That was really desperate Adam.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Not sure about Origi but he is definitely 2 or 3 more seasons off being the player we need thats of course if he gets that far.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Kebala wont release him

    ReplyDelete
  60. Rodgers should at least get to the end of the season to turn things around. I really hope we dont sack him before then and i really hope he manages to turn things around. Last season was one of my most enjoyable as a Liverpool supporter, not just because of the results but the style of play and how much fun we were to watch every game.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Boruc seemed to do Ok at Saints last season. 14 clean sheets in 30 or so EPL apps.

    ReplyDelete
  62. The main ingredient to our continued momentum from last season has been injured for the most part. I admit, I've been frustrated with some of the team selections this season - and was full on depressed yesterday, but he's still experimenting with the bigger squad.

    ReplyDelete
  63. An established goal scorer and use the Academy for squad depth. That's all we really had to do, and keep the majority of the Suarez cash for January, in case that plan didn't work.
As much as I like the guy, Lambert should never have been signed. Nor Loveren, Markovic or Manquillo. I like Moreno and think he's going to be a top left back but the rest of the signings were excessive and wasteful.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Spanish press having Suarez for breakfast at the moment...

Marca write: "Having won the Golden Shoe for his exploits in front of goal last term, Suarez seems to have been unsettled by the ban that saw him start this season later than his new team-mates.

"The stats are even more surprising when compared to historical data: over the last 50 years, only three other forwards signed by Barcelona have had the same difficulty as Suarez in breaking their league duck.

"Those three are Christophe Dugarry, Luis García and Maxi Lopez, who all spent indifferent spells with the 'Blaugranas'.

"This stat places Suarez alongside some of the worst 'Cules' performers in recent times, and increases the doubts and speculation about whether or not his signing was good value for money for the Catalan club."

    ReplyDelete
  65. The club is in transition still, getting rid of BR would be foolish because we will end up back in limbo AGAIN, he will turn it aound,

    ReplyDelete
  66. I suppose the press are dining on him before he dines on them.

    ReplyDelete
  67. apart from AVB as your manager that is the team i would go with!!!! good choice

    ReplyDelete
  68. Let's be honest, who WOULDN'T have a toxic relationship with H&G!?

  69. 4eva LFC, LFC 4eva10:33 am, December 15, 2014

WOW, FDB let's see Simeone, Klopp, Rafa and AVB, what a list of managers who will it be if any BR has got some heat on him right now.
I personally, if I had to pick would take Rafa back just because the way things were in his last few seasons with the owners, not to mention the fact that we were competing with the rest when things were good at the club, but no manager is a guarantee so any one of those guys could succeed or fail, it's all about what money will be spent and who on and can they get the best out of their buys. What ever happens I have the utmost respect for BR cause he is the same age as me and he took on one of the biggest and toughest jobs in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Probably this is the 3rd season we are talking about Boruc coming to Anfield. I have the feeling he will became of the those "we should have signed" players when he goes to some other club and make headlines.

Our transfer policy is absolute disaster and we pay overprice for players because agents know they can get the money out of us easily. FSG make the same mistake Gillette and Hicks did with transfers. Rafa bought players left and right based on stats. At one point we had players to fill 3 squads playing on loan all over the world.

So far we got money thanks to the Boston Redsox. As long as they keep winning World Series money will come across the ocean... for another season or two...

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sterling's first had a yard between De Gea and the first post, but Sterling passed the ball to him. First chance in the second- De Gea was confidant and Sterling was so far from that...

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don' get it... When they won 2-1 few weeks ago(being down 1.0) he made two assists. Messi is untouchable there and Pedro, and others know how to deal with it, it is just about Suearez learning it.. Hope he flops along with the club, but that is the best attack I have ever seen...

    ReplyDelete
  73. I have seen some Barca games and he has been excellent. He plays a different role in Barca than he did for us. In Barca, he plays third fiddle. Messi and neymar never pass the ball to him. Suarez has 6 or 7 assists so far. Not too shabby.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I did the same and not the first time this season, if many fans are becoming disillusioned imagine how the players must feel, Johnson and Gerrard pissed off because of contract issues, Sterling holding out for £400 000 per week, Mignolet and Lovren feeling like failures, Lambert wondering what the hell he is doing at Liverpool, Coutinho looks like he has been playing football for three weeks and is thinking of taking up long distance walking, and lets not forget Allen. they all know that Rodgers' head is on the chopping block and I am sure he is pretty stressed out, his 600 page "theory of football" never dealt with the concept of failure and he has run out of ideas, not exactly someone who will inspire players to go out and slay dragons and this too would add to the players feeling of inadequacy and disillusionment.
Leaving Rodgers in place until the end of the season could result in a totally demoralized team and a fan base that are just not quite as passionate about supporting this level of mediocrity.

    ReplyDelete
  75. He will improve has played some good patches of football he is far too good not to improve.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The club is in a difficult situation, ideally we should stick with BR till the end of the season and if needed make changes then... problem with that simple solution is that we have more then half the season to go and this losing trend may well stay with us till the end of the season. I'm guessing its one game at a time right now for the owners, with a hope BR will turn this around. From my own personal view, I feel BR has lost the dressing room and what confidence is left will continue to sap away. Its sad to say, but last season may well have been all about a world class player and not the manager.
We leaked goals last season but scored on demand, now the world class player has moved on, we are still leaking goals but struggling to score.
It is fair to question the money spent as I can't imagine we'd be in any worse situation if no money had been spend.

Ultimately, we don't know which way this will go, but as the owners have taken the club from close to financial ruin to a far healthier standing, they have a responsibility to those companies investing into the club and so far this season, the vast amount of investment has not seen improvement, so I'm not going to knock the owners if they remove BR, they are only doing what they believe is right for the club as a whole going forward. If BR goes, I will be hugely disappointed, but its becoming more and more difficult to stand by him, for me the odd summer transfer policy and odd team selections are part of a growing problem.
If BR is removed, and no "quality proven manager" is available, I'd give SteveG the temp player/manager role and maybe JamieC as assistant till the end of the season!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I dont want Benitez, AVB is not good enough for the Prem and he has proved this twice. FDB why? what has he done.
Simeone and Klopp may be ok, Klopp would be favourite for me. However I believe that LFC need a good director of football to help the manager and maybe give him a kick up the arse, someone like Gus Hiddink, maybe offer Sami Hypia a role as a defensive coach, if he loses his job and is interested.
Rodgers needs someone to advise him as he seems a bit lost at the moment.
Bringing in a new manager doesnt always work, most times they want their own players and have a different style of football. I dont like what Rodgers is doing at the moment and he seems to have lost it, but maybe better to help him rather than get rid and have to start all over again, with absolutely No promise of an improvement.
I think Rodgers should get rid of severals players, Johnson, Enrique, Sahko,Lukas, Borini, Balotelli, maybe Lovren, Mignolet, to raise some funds for a good defensive midfield player, (Song ), a good but mobile goal scorer, a good goalkeeper (Asmir Begovic ) from Stoke and a good central defender. I think the new players, Can, Lallana, Markovitch, Moreno, Manquillo, are all good players, with Flanagan and Sturridge to come back, with a few additions we have a very good squad and will prove it if they are played regularly.

    ReplyDelete
  78. On our books now we have ibe, suso, sterling, couthino, gerrard, lallana, markovich, alberto and assaidi as attacking mids ang only lucas as a recognised def mid. How was this allowed to happen. We have 2 bad gk's really bad. Our forwards are sturridge, balo, lambert, borini, origi and aspas. How has it happened. Our squad is really unbalanced we have good players on loan would wisdom orllori have been any worse than lovren. Its a joke and rigers has to be the man held accountible.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Although I think he wasted the money I don't think we are going to be able to attract the top players as we can't pay the wages so most of his signings are going to be a gamble. I hope he is given until the end of the season to turn it around. He is the manager that gave us the best football to watch in a long time.
I don't think we played to badly going forward yesterday just couldn't score. We need a top class defender though.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I knew you did, I couldn't figure out what was it.. I'm a bit slow today..

    ReplyDelete
  81. Can we have him back please

    ReplyDelete
  82. I don't see why. Maybe you interpret what I'm saying as false acceptance but it's not. I just don't share the sense of drama that everyone seems to be infected with. We've lost some football games, it's not the end of the world.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I think BR has given enough money to make a change, his ultimate downfall will be his poor market performance. Only 1 singing has been a success, I do not think Coutinho can be deemed a success which his hot and cold form, when was the last time he made an impact? Probably last season vs City.

I'm still very confused about who calls the shots on transfers.

This season will be a long one. I think we need to go guns blazing in the Europa league, at the moment that seems to be out biggest shot of qualifying for the CL.

A league cup would do wonders for morale. United, like I said in the beginning United are a threat. 6 wins in a row while playing badly is good. When they click they will be like us last season.

BR had a chance to get things right and he spoiled it. I don't blame him for the Lovren signing and he looked really last season.

Would big clubs like United, Chelsea, Barca, Real, Juve, Bayern etc...keep a manager who has spent £100M on players and is faliling to reach the minimum requirement?

    The answer is no.

If Liverpool want to be a big club they have to make big club decisions and this mean leaving this whole traditional & sentimental mindframe.

De Boer is a good shout, a lot more experience than BR.

We need a serious manager who is not afraid to tell off players and shout at them...Simeone is good.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Kenny was given a whole year after his initial success in the first few months. It was a horrible decline but plenty of fans were still behind him, even at the end. It will probably be the same for Rodgers. If he gets to the end of the season and nothing has changed then there won't be any arguments from anyone. I was supportive of Kenny getting dropped and if Liverpool are still a poor side in May then I'll be 100% behind Rodgers being replaced.

    ReplyDelete
  85. It's Ajax though, they haven't done much in Europe for a long time nor is it expected of them per say.

I do agree someone with more experience at a higher league should be considered. Simeone is a good call Mike.

I'm torn with Klopp, seems a lot like BR.

    ReplyDelete
  86. not De Boer, has he done any good anywhere yet? Simeone yeah but Klopp no thanks

    ReplyDelete
  87. yea, in reality they are defo already looking for a replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I felt the same. He has made some really bad decisions in the transfer market. I think the old adage of quality not quantity has escaped LFC for years. we could have got away with 3 top quality players instead of buying another team

    ReplyDelete
  89. Based on the fact that in the 18 months previous to the start of this season we played the best football I have personally ever seen LFC play

    ReplyDelete
  90. Its not that Rodgers is a poor manager - its that we dont know what kind of manager he is . His first season was just like this season, dodgey buys poor tactics and questionable substitutions. Second season seemed to improve alot...however was Suarez making the likes of Coutinho Sturridge and Sterling look better than they were because he could dig Liverpool out of a hole when needed or create space to allow those 3 to play ? and that very little of it other than the quick passing was anything to do with Rodgers..certainly starting to look like it.Rodgers lauded in the praise he received when we came second and pushed properly for a tilt at the title...so now he must except the blame on this mess and it is mess. Yesterday was a game that looked like it was being played by two midtable teams with one taking their chances and the other an expensive joke at the back.

    ReplyDelete
  91. How much more backing do you want him to get ..granted losing Sturridge is a blow but other players have been awful Coutinho and Sterling are just non entities this year...the whole team look like they dont want to play for him .remember most of that team are his buys and yet he cannot seem to find a formation to play them.....so i ask what was his plans when he bought them. His arrogance and stubbornness will be his downfal

  93. I cant blindly defend him and the points you make are bang on. I just feel he can turn it around and I feel we will be better for it. The thing is this year we have been terrible. Its not as if we are in top gear and thats as far as we can go. We haven't even started.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Flipping heck! No thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Smaller fish now in bigger pond ...... Would we have him back ?

  96. Here's the context of their frustration: Liverpool were expected to strongly push on from last season, and rightly so, since last season provided a perfect opportunity to build sustained success. Not many people expected a league win, but strong CL contention was an absolute must, yet top 4 is already basically a write-off!

This 'end of the world' attitude exists because Liverpool fans have been waiting 24 years for 'things to come better'. Every time Liverpool manage to turn a corner, they find a way to undermine themselves. In the eyes of our rivals, we're a laughing stock, like as usual, and we're fed up with it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. And how many of Rodgers signings were responsible for that. It's one thing putting x's on a chalkboard, it's another going out on a pitch and actually doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  98. He over bought and over paid this season. we should have kept a small tight squad and just added 2 or 3 max quality players

    ReplyDelete
  99. No offence but I think your comment epitomizes what fans mean when they say, "If you cant support us when we're losing then dont support us when we're winning".

    ReplyDelete
  100. he can come back no problem!

  101. Liverpool FC face Besiktas in Europa League after last 32 draw

    ReplyDelete
  102. Players that need to be dropped: Skrtel, Lovren, Johnson (well he is injured), Gerrard and Henderson. Reason I say Henderson is because he is doing just about nothing on the pitch to warrant his place and unless we are going to play a high pressing game then Allen is not of much use to us either.

Sakho, Can, Markovic and Borini for me need to now be given a chance and the players letting us down need to be benched.

We played a more free flowing type of football vs UTD but they are not arsed about defending and still we could not score. Play against a more defensively organised team and we are back to square one.

Unfortunately Rodgers will stick with a formula that does not work. Things are not going to improve unless we see drastic changed being made to the starting eleven and the way we play.

    ReplyDelete
  103. We are going to get our arses whipped as usual. If we struggled in the CL then Thursday night matches are not going to get easier.

    ReplyDelete
  104. There is that plus the fact that he hasn't made one consistent, sustained quality signing in his entire career at LFC. Coutinho has never made the impact he did in the first six months again and Sturridge is injured more often than Kirkland. Not one player that Rodgers has signed has made any lasting impact. Not one.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I think this match would be in Feb, so here's hoping by then things would be better......or r they?!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Would you please list Rodgers qualities (in order of importance) that give you cause to support him 100%? - I am keen to know. Like most people who post on this website I recognise that our views will not initiate much change by the Club owners. In fact I think the sum total of our posts is akin to pulling the emergency cord on a train, with no brakes and no driver, that's heading full speed for a broken track on the edge of the Grand Canyon. But, as the TV ad said of BT - "it's good to talk". That being so, can someone please tell me who's going to take the job of driving our train next summer and how's he going to attract a stoker, ticket collector and guard to help him if we're lying amongst the wreckage of the Championship.
Regarding those who do not want to change driver - I just cannot Adam'n'eve it!

    ReplyDelete
  107. sterling's first had a yard between De Gea and the first post, but Sterling passed the ball to him. First chance in the second- De Gea was confidant and Sterling was so far from that...

    ReplyDelete
  108. In fairness Nick, expecting LFC to push on from where they left off last season WITHOUT one of the best players ever to play in a red shirt is incredible. The style of football that Liverpool played, where they finished and their hunger to attack is arguably down to his effect on the rest of the team. The team was already conceding too many goals and without the goals from Suarez and Sturridge(Who I believe played better under the influence of Suarez), what the hell did they expect was going to happen?? Its because of these fans with their crazy expectations that are a laughing stock.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Does it look like things are improving or going to improve?

    ReplyDelete
  110. FSG agreed to both signings from a financial standpoint but the
Committee chose Balotelli over Bony (Remy was also a committee choice)
    (2/2)

    Mike Bernard Twitter feed again.............

    ReplyDelete
  111. The one that hurt the manager most was the signing of Mario Balotelli
over Wilfried Bony where the Committee overruled Rodgers (1/2)

    ReplyDelete
  112. Surely by then 45 days......I am hopeful will improve...

    ReplyDelete
  113. Can't see this being true. One plus one journalism at its worst.

As for keepers. Would Mignolet have been slated more on this site for trying to preempt what the strikers were going to do? Both for Rooney's and committing against Mata which aided Van Persie to an open net. Neither of these things stick out like the mistakes of Mignolet but De Gea standing tall and having good anticipation showed how below the level we need Jones is. A keeper in Jan is an absolute must.

    ReplyDelete
  114. United's defence was poor but they didn't concede. Partly due to poor finishing by us but also by decent keeping.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Do a google search on Mike Bernard. There is no info linking him to FSG so to me that is another parody account like the one we had with Duncan Jenkins.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  117. Think that is a fake account mate. Their is no info that I have managed to find linking this guy to FSG.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Nothing wrong with being hopeful but based on our whole season so far, forget it.

    ReplyDelete
  119. "Three pets"? Come on Orme your better than that.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Did De Gea have to make any spectacular saves except for the Balotelli attempt?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren and Rodgers are best mates.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Well it's not like Jay disagrees with you so I don't know why you're arguing

    ReplyDelete
  123. I am not arguing. How much pressure was de Gea put under? Even with UTD's poor defence they still managed to deal with us easily.

De Gea behind our defence in the same match and 'decent keeping' would have changed to a goalkeepers worst nightmare.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Still. Resorting to dehumanising insults is not as classy as I know Orme is.

    ReplyDelete
  125. If Jones doesn't commit himself on two occasions and stands up he may well have made two unspectacular saves. I agree our defence is poor but a better keeper could have done better.

    ReplyDelete
  126. No offence taken...but I fail to see why you have a problem when I find this current situation frustrating and unacceptable, life is not as simple as you seem to think and I am surprised that as a Liverpool supporter you find their current performance worthy of your total support....but thats just my opinion

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'd like Jurgen Klopp to manage Liverpool. If he could bring Reus, Gundogan, and Hummels into the team, I'm sure we can be a title winner once again. #InShort

    ReplyDelete
  128. Ruddy is a quality keeper! Its just a shame he has a weak back four in front of him! So these stats are pointless. As a Norwich fan I know he should be in a better team than us and I simply wouldn't want him to go as he would be very hard to replace.

    ReplyDelete
  129. You just know that if he played Sakho Can Markovic and they did ok he would drop them next game for some obscure reason. Hope Gerrard gives him notice to quit

    ReplyDelete
  130. I was mostly referring to the second half of your last paragraph, Baxter. Having said that, this season IS frustrating but its very clear as to why, no? To expect us to push on from last season taking into consideration who we have lost is a bit far fetched, wouldnt you agree? I happen to take offence by your gross exaggeration in comments such as "Sterling holding out for 400,000 a week" and 'Coutinho looks like he's been playing football for 3 weeks". Surely you can see just how good Coutinho can be??? In a nutshell, their recent performances are not what's getting my 'total support', the team as a whole are. Always.

  131. Sorry my bad we get a lot of Indias soccer on pay tv here i like Chennai.

  132. Stranger things have happened than allowing Brendan to continue. That is up to FSG.

If I bring up Ferguson's second season at M U then obviously you will say that was a time past - but Pardew has had time, and also poignantly has Klopp this season.

Being cut-throat depends on then club as a whole and on the owners and specifically what they want out of owning a premiership club.
FSG apparently were on their way to cull the management team twice in the last month until persuaded otherwise.
It's no skin off my teeth - it's not my responsibility or my money - I support the club and the people who represent it - that's all - and until their shown the door I will show that loyalty - and that is my prerogative....

You asked my point - my point is - even though I'm still convinced Brendan can turn this around, the subject was Klopp and that you feel it's a dead end because his form in bundesliga is crap.
But I feel that Klopp is a good manager who needs a club which doesn't sell ALL his good players as dortmund have done.
The fact they are top of european group means something intrinsically is working and that he is getting something partly right.
We on the other hand are pissing everything up......
when you look at it respectively there is a difference; plus Klopp has found real gems of players, wanted right across Europe...
as far as bumdesliga form well they need an edge to their game as everyone there knows how they play and until he gets his influential players back from injury he wont be able to have that extra something .....look at our league, pound for pound the 'lower' clubs are getting stronger and the difference is a percentage skill level....

My point was if Brendan goes, not to discount Klopp......

    ReplyDelete
  133. please, just ban him...he post so many pointless character destroying comments!

I will never ask for sacking our manager, but really what is going on with Rodgers? This season is a total disgrace. We lacking everything we had last season. And even without Suarez we were much more solid than we are now. This season is already lost maybe so we can better stay silent and suffer another humiliating season.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I'd be very surprised if Simeone doesn't end up at PSG.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Spot on mate! Rafa Simeone and Klopp all have proven track record of winning league against established hierarchy

    ReplyDelete
  137. are you a man utd fan? why would you say that if you care about LFC? I recall going on Utd forums and voting to keep Moyes...is this karma biting me up the arse :) lol

  138. Bring him in

    ReplyDelete
  139. Remember this ignorant comment Brendan? "Look at Tottenham. If you spend more than £100 million, you expect to be challenging for the league."
Well, Bren has blown over twice what Tottenham spent and has actually managed to do worse than the useless AVB, who will apparently be the next manager...
The other big problem is the fans, the utter plonkers who have no standards, would rather have Benitez 8 man defence and the most boring football ever and a bit of success in a Cup. Why not play good football AND win things? A concept that seems alien to most of the prawn sandwiches that call themselves football fans. The fans have no standards, the manager is crap, the owners have pumped HUGE sums of cash in to the club... it can't continue, relegation might be a good thing. The clubs dead now.

  141. Whoever came up with this one is an idiot. Ruddy.....and we want to challenge for titles.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Rafas teams play disgusting horrible boring football with 9 man defences + the goallie.... get some standards and have a bit of dignity. So many pool fans are simply whores. You John, are a whore

    ReplyDelete
  143. Mignolet has poor decision making, doesn't dominate his area and has woeful distribution. We have inept defenders for sure but we also have an inept keeper as well. Not sure why you're defending him.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I bet if they played for Mourinho they would be far more secure. He knows how to coach his teams.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Good reply DinMan.It's been a good match of comment tennis. This is my last post on this topic.I'm sounding like a broken record:)
I watch the Bundesliga on BTSport, and other big German matches on the internet for betting purposes.Maybe that's why i'm more scathing than some other Liverpool supporters, who most likely have no idea how Dortmund have been performing this season.
Ilkay Gundogan, Reus and Mats Hummels are a few key players who have been injured. They've all played around half of the total of 15 Bundesliga matches so far.Jakub Blaszczykowski and Sahin are the only players big players who've hardly played this season.
The majority of his key players are back and have had a decent run of games. So the injury excuse can no longer be made.I really like German football, but from a competitive point of view in terms of smaller clubs upsetting the bigger teams, it's nothing like the PL.
I thought Klopp doesn't have complete control over signings? I could be wrong, but i think Raf Honigstein said so in the European Football Show.Anyway your right, Gundogan, Mats Hummels, Reus, Neven Sobtic and Mkhitaryan are good buys regardless of whoever brought them in.
This debate has got me looking like i think Jurgen Klopp is garbage.Which isn't what i think and was never my intention. All i want is for him to stop Dortmund's out of control yellow train from crashing and burning his reputation.
Replacing Brendan Rodgers with someone currently fighting relegation is stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  146. No surprise to anyone that has watched Barca over the last 8 years. The team is set up so everything goes through Messi. Suarez will never be the player he was at liverpool just as Ibra wasn't the same whilst at Barca. It is no coincidence that Alexis Sanches looks amazing having spent 3/4 seasons providing chances for Messi. F*** Suarez anyway. He wanted to go, so enjoy all the assists you will give to Messi. Neymar can stand out at Barca as he is technically gifted, Suarez is just a guy that can score and has a good attitude.

  147. Ah, and the fog of assumption clears....

Thank you Mr Beast for the compliment and the valued insight and information regarding the Bundesliga.

I am afraid due to time constraints I have to piece together info gathered on TV, papers and reading forums, on assumption that others have access to more knowledge than me - I've now understood there's knowledge and then there's knowledge!!!!

So, cool man, got it, and I agree there is no point replacing Brendan with Klopp if what you say is the reality of the situation; I feel that may be where my 'confusion' stemmed from in my original post.....

P.s. there is no broken record when it's healthy debate - but thanks for the modesty....
